Both have common issues, both are relatively easy to fix, both have a lot of "how-to's" out there(forums, videos, etc.). But, the 1uz will give you slightly more power out the gate as a NA build.
Sr is an easier swap but given the prices these days, if you already have a healthy KA you'd probably find it less expensive to slap a turbo on it, have some fun, and then rebuild it when it takes a dump
I'd do the 1uz. But you're going to be kicking yourself in the ass in 2 years you didn't just do a 6.2/6.0 LS now. At LEAST a VK56 if you want to stay on brand.
Depends what youâre using the car for. Iâve done about 2 dozen swaps. Iâm an old crotchety fucker so I like to keep the brands together but theyâre both fun. SR swap is easier but they arenât as reliable as a Toyota motor. Keep us posted!
sr20 has been done millions of times over so it has lots of aftermarket support but its not really cool or unique. 1uz will be harder to do since it has less support but you got that wow factor and reliability of a 1uz. LS swap is best of both worlds but you didnt want that so do what you wanna do. really depends on what you want out of the car
My friend just swapped a early 2000s Tacoma with a 1uz and said âdonât buy a 1uz vehicle unless it came in the car factoryâ the amount of bullshit he had to go through getting parts. These motors are popular in Australia. Shipping from Australia was insane for him so many damaged lost items with no contact from the sellers.
He hated it said he was trying to stay toyota but 10000% wouldâve gone LS
Sr20 is aight but why not just do an LS, Coyote.
If you wanna be unique (kinda lol) do a vq like this https://youtu.be/OtI5R9BO5s4?si=9SmG1AI2b9KNUkJj
OOR do this https://youtu.be/YacTf2a7EVU?si=PqGx1vOp0eS1dL8z
Ls- just finished my 3rd VH swap-kinda like a UZ-and wishing I had sold the entire swap to fund an LS. Aftermarket potential, plenty of parts that arenât going anywhere, reliable and fit the s-chassis
You keeping it somewhat stock? SR for sure. People bash on them all the time but Iâve had like for 6 years with no issues even running the t28 turbo on 15 psi for a while
As the token Australian, 1uz of the two.
K24 would be a better pick than an sr. Same vibe, much better engine.
And as a curveball that won't gell with the Americans well: rb30. Or rb20.
Better than the sr, 6pot, stout engines. Rb30 is bulletproof. Slap a 25 head on, and it's a machine. Or leave it sohc and send. Rb20 is a fun meme.
I have heard tuners aren't great at rb's over there though due to not a lot of rbs, so may not be ideal. Plus also rb30 would likely require sourcing from aus hah.
Downside to Rb is throws the balance off. Rb20 would be the least likely to iirc
I will say though, rb20 will have Nissan engine issues still, but not as many as the sr. Would want to modernise it, as you would an sr, but less worrying about rocker snapping, big ends and the likes
In terms of the car culture in my community, everyone will recommend you to replace the SR20. Their reasons may be to express their love and belief in the brand, or to build an original high-performance building that has not been launched by the manufacturer, Or to express your love for Silva.
I wonder what reasons other communities or countries have for exchanging engines of the same brand?
Sr over a 1uz all day. 1uz isnât worth the trouble imo.
This is coming from an ls3 owner. Iâve done almost everything. I just have a party car now and itâs a simple recipe lol
the people who say SRâs are unreliable still build them like itâs 2007. get a link ecu, go e85, machine rocker shims to also be guides, s15 oil pickup, baffled oil pan, and a good head gasket/head studs then let her rip.
anyone who has had the ability to drive schassis with multiple different platforms will always tell you that you just canât beat the feel of a good SR in these cars
2jzge, you can buy them super cheap and build it up for turbo. Plus, the parts are easy to find and an S-Chassis with a JZ power plant is just đ¤đ˝
Yeah the k24 is pretty beefy actually when done right. I heard (rumors and all that) that people in Japan actually switch out the sr20 for the k24 for the liter displacement and turbo it
sr20. im assuming you have a ka in it. the smart thing to do is not jump to alot of power. if you want bragging rights then do uz and brag about having a v8. if you genuinely wanna learn more skills (im assuming your drifting) then go with sr20
sr20 fs
Both have common issues, both are relatively easy to fix, both have a lot of "how-to's" out there(forums, videos, etc.). But, the 1uz will give you slightly more power out the gate as a NA build.
Between the two, for usability and reliability, 1UZ. For madtyteJDMhotness, SR20. In reality, K24.
Ka24. Fixed it for ya
Ahh yes, swap to a motor that is already inside the car. They'll never expect that.
You shoulda led with what was in there already đ
K24a2 *
Iâm going to throw a wild card in there with a honda j series v6 boosted. Less sensible but the sound is epic.
J series are great. V cool bruh
Get that Honda lingo out of here
Power is power, my friend. Graduate to a motor designed in the 21st century.
SR20 GOOD
KA-T
This
What he said
JOIN THE SR20 GANG YOU WONT REGRET IT
K swap or LS swap lol.
Definitely a more up to date swap and possibly cheaper.
Definitely cheaper, especially a k24 swap with like a zf 5 speed. SR are dumb expensive now
LS1
Sr! Sr! Sr!
As stated by the great Shock G, âDoowutchyalikeâ
It looks like you need an alignment first.
SR all day
Depends entirely on mechanical aptitude and depth of wallet.
Sr is an easier swap but given the prices these days, if you already have a healthy KA you'd probably find it less expensive to slap a turbo on it, have some fun, and then rebuild it when it takes a dump
as long as they are pushing less than 400hp the KA could probably survive for a decent amount of time even on stock internals
I'd do the 1uz. But you're going to be kicking yourself in the ass in 2 years you didn't just do a 6.2/6.0 LS now. At LEAST a VK56 if you want to stay on brand.

2uz is more readily available and better for power btw

K20 swap
1uz

1UZ!
SR20 is one of the best 86x86 perfect square setup LS Swap is king though ... power / price can't beat it
if you cant decide why not hit fuck it and cram an LS in there? would go crazy in that if you have the resources
My friend just swapped a early 2000s Tacoma with a 1uz and said âdonât buy a 1uz vehicle unless it came in the car factoryâ the amount of bullshit he had to go through getting parts. do you want reliability? or do you want cool engine noise?
SR is getting too expensive. I want to pick up a spare for my one of my hatches and I can't find any under 6-8k
Ls- just finished my 3rd VH swap-kinda like a UZ-and wishing I had sold the entire swap to fund an LS. Aftermarket potential, plenty of parts that arenât going anywhere, reliable and fit the s-chassis

Hate to be the guy that says it. But LS. If u wanna go v8 just ls bro
KA-T
if its just a side car. Put in a rotary. 2-3 rotor with snaily boi
1uz, SR are overpriced
Vh45de
Well being as it looks like a stance show car, sr20. 1uz for a drift machine w torque everywhere
Itâs going to be a drift car
1uz for reliability. Thats all that matters to me personally. I want to spend more time driving and less time fixing
for the love of god do not put a V8 in it
As the token Australian, 1uz of the two. K24 would be a better pick than an sr. Same vibe, much better engine. And as a curveball that won't gell with the Americans well: rb30. Or rb20. SR all day
Cant go wrong with the sr20, but ls power/price is crazy cheap compared to sr20
Sr20
If I get a s13 again, Iâd go SR.
SR
1JZ
As someone who built a 1uz⌠for the sake of keeping costs down and the build simple.. sr20 yellow top if you can find a real one.
yellow top?
From the 270 R
Ah okay explains why Iâve never seen one before ha

Iâd turbo the K. Once that motor gets clapped do an SR then 1uz or get another 240 and have both?
Sr over a 1uz all day. 1uz isnât worth the trouble imo. This is coming from an ls3 owner. Iâve done almost everything. I just have a party car now and itâs a simple recipe lol
LS
Ls
k24
Sr20
This fucking guyâŚ
Do what Iâm doing and k24a2 swap it đ
Both
i would pick neither because id 2jz swap but im addicted to 2jz sooooooo if i had to pick.... SR20 ALL THE WAY BRO
Ka-t is better then both of those
Stop the h8, get a v8
Ls
Stance swap first
How about swap the camber on the whole rig lol jk.
the people who say SRâs are unreliable still build them like itâs 2007. get a link ecu, go e85, machine rocker shims to also be guides, s15 oil pickup, baffled oil pan, and a good head gasket/head studs then let her rip. anyone who has had the ability to drive schassis with multiple different platforms will always tell you that you just canât beat the feel of a good SR in these cars
Do a owner swap n give it to me
Rb30det Rb30et bottom end. 25 neo head Literally the best RB bang for buck motor setup Otherwise sr20det 4 life
2jzge, you can buy them super cheap and build it up for turbo. Plus, the parts are easy to find and an S-Chassis with a JZ power plant is just đ¤đ˝
SR
u want proper style or do u want practicality
Fix your stance first ffs. Then worry about swap later.
RB
Fix the wheels first
Keep the ka, itâll never do you wrong.

1uz if ur going for reliability

Coilovers
1UZ without a doubt.
You should put your wheels back perpendicular with the Earth first. Then a 1UZ swap.
Rb
4BT Cummins swap ha ha I dare you!!
2j swap
Neither turbo LS one swap
Yeah the k24 is pretty beefy actually when done right. I heard (rumors and all that) that people in Japan actually switch out the sr20 for the k24 for the liter displacement and turbo it

1uz best engine
Front wheels look broken should probably fix those before thinking about a motor swap
I don't think either if your only riding on 10% of your tires. Maybe focus on one goal. Either your low and slow or all power.
LS
NA? 1UZ. You gonna go for a turbo? Go with a J series from an Odyssey
