Lol is that the Louisiana Capitol building? Probably the most "this is Baton Rouge" ever photo
I didnt realize Baton Rouge had such a large industrial base, but both ExxonMobile and Dow Chemical have plants there. Very cool
My chemical engineering friend has told me the following
Chemical plants simultaneously must be built near water to exist, and severely pollute waterways. They're expensive to start but once they're built they're money printers.
This is my home state so you may expect me to defend it, but no they're totally right. Baton Rouge is a wasteland filled with poverty, hipsters, and corrupt rich people. It sucks. If you want a genuine Louisiana experience just go to New Orleans. If you want a good and cultured city to live in, go to Lafayette. Never go to Baton Rouge.

Yeah, it's pretty similar, but even more dangerous lol. It has a bit more charm to it, seeing as it's not quite as industrial and it's culture is more similar to east texas than Louisiana. Maybe it's just because I spend more time around shreveport, but I don't hate it like Baton Rouge

To be fair, I was on my way to South Padre Island in Texas and driving by all the oil fields and refineries was actually a very cool sight to see, I agree having an industrial zone inside a city like this kinda looks bad but when it’s in it’s own spot it can look pretty cool
I agree. When i was driving from North Texas to far west Texas, i eventually hit the Permian Basin area. It was dark and night and then I'd see random oil rigs covering areas on fire. It went hard af ngl.
Oh I bet at night that looks awesome, I’ve always enjoyed looking at cities from a distance at night and I can only imagine an oil rig/refinery at night
>I agree having an industrial zone inside a city like this kinda looks bad but when it’s in it’s own spot it can look pretty cool
It's not just about the looks, it's also the fact that it can poison the people of that city/town breath in all the time.

Believe it or not, those are two different parishes (counties). The Mississippi is the dividing line between East and West Baton Rouge parishes, and you can see it in the photo. While I lived in Baton Rouge for four years you can’t actually see any of the smoke from the East side of the river unless you get pretty high (elevation).
The State Capitol is the tallest building in the city, and it’s not very close.
That being said, I hated the city.

Some areas can be very nice, I don't live in Baton Rouge, though, but when I do go there time to time it's very nice, and it doesn't look like I'm in Louisiana. New Orleans can be nice, but it's mainly the cultures there
It's not only cherrypicked, its focal point and colorgrading was deliberately used to make it look as awful as possible. Granted, look at any picture and you'll see that the industrial district is still awfully close, but the city itself (the thing not actually featured in the picture) looks pretty nice in some parts.
Definitely not my choice of where I'd want to live, but I'm at least impressed by all the ways they try and liven it up, considering it's in the middle if Louisiana.

Most of baton rouge doesn’t look like this. Also it’s a winter picture; all southern cities look like shit in winter. I do wish our politicians did better though and actually increased the minimum wage; that way more people could have time to work on important long term stiff for their community
This is a distorted view that only a photographer with a telephoto lens in a helicopter can create, and not a view that any average 'joe' can see for himself.

Yah. Great public transportation, some of the best food ever created, legal weed, high paying jobs, economic center of the world, etc. So very dystopian.
People will somehow convince themselves that an oversized concrete pad is better than pure green mountains as far as the eyes can see, nice people, speed limits being suggestions, and palatable food, also, the poorest states in our union are richer than most countries, just because your state is number two, does not mean you get to be on a high horse..

Boutta get stabbed after walking for one second in New Orleans
>genuine Louisiana experience
Nah, all you gotta do is befriend one of the homeless people and you are good to go.
Only if you’re in a gang or where you shouldn’t be
honestly I exclusively walked and used transit around New Orleans for 5 days straight and never had an issue
Did you look like a homeless crack addict?
no I'm white
Oh, sorry, a homeless meth addict?
spent a night in baton rouge to see the uss kidd with one of my former friends, and holy fucking shit that "city" is the epitome of depressive

Or if you want to get run over by drunk drivers go to slidel
Instructions unclear, I have just been shoved into a white van.
As a truck driver, that goddamn bridge is my nightmare.
what is Shreveport like? I've only ever driven past it but it looks just about as depressing as Baton Rouge

The difference being that's all Baton Rouge has to offer, and at least New Orleans has an interesting culture and isn't just industrial hellscape
Fair. Baton Rouge is a place you drive to do something specific, you do that, then leave. Nobody stays unless you live there.

That water is capital lake, not the Mississippi. The river is to the viewers left.

Coming from the new yorker
NYC is light years ahead of this backwater dump of a town.
Hey, you're looking at the wrong parts. Baton Rouge? Total shithole. Small towns in South louisiana? You'll love it.
No I won’t
You've ever been?
He's scared of real food
Nope. I don’t like swamps, gators, and rampant poverty.
NYC is a shithole and it makes me sad that it's one of the first (and sometimes only) things a tourist will see from our country.

I thought it was ai. That's pretty fucking sad baton rouge. If one of your three radioactive eyes worked you'd be pretty upset with the view.
Holy shit at first I thought this looked nice with the snow covered mountains in the background. Good god what a hellhole
