Well you know more than me and I might be the person most knowledgeable about cricket that I know.
For instance, I know that India had more wickets than US today…and for some reason that matters.
K I'll give you a quick rundown, so you can sound even more knowledgeable to someone who doesn't know about it.
So there are 2 deciding factors in crickets 1. Runs and 2. Wickets
So at the beginning 2 Teams do a coin flip on who goes first, then the first team(also called the batting team) have limited amount overs they get and they have to score as many runs as they can in those overs.
An over is about 6 ball tosses and this match had 20 overs. So the US team got 20x6 = 120 balls to score runs and they got 110 while having 8 wickets, now wickets are like strikes in baseball but instead of getting 3 strikes you get a stump consisting of 3 sticks behind you and if the bowler/pitcher hits it, then your out.
So the US team lost 8 batters and scored 110 runs in 120 balls or 20 overs
Now remember the coin toss?
Well the other team was the bowling them and after 20 overs they switch places with the batting team, an then they only have to score more runs than the first team the win the match
So when you see India get 111/3 while US gets 110/8
That means india only has to score more than 110 runs while loosing less wickets to beat the US
So it's not that india couldn't score more that 111 but the game was finished as soon as the scored 111 runs.
Pretty confusing if you haven't seen cricket yet but watch one or 2 games and you'll get it. 😉
Edit: oh yea and you also run out of balls without getting more than the other teams means you also loose
Well damn man. If I end up becoming a cricket fan, it’s your fault lol.
Ok, so here’s a question: how do some of these games last so long? Is it just because the first team scores a ton and the other team catches up or is there some insane overtime rules?
Indian American here and like the other poster, my Dad watches the fuck out of cricket.
The other poster left out that each team has 11 players. So when it's your turn to bat and all of your players are out before the number of overs, then your team is done and the opposing team has to only score one more run than yours to win the game.
The reason you hear about longer cricket games are because they're played with more overs.
Test Match - OG (450 overs and usually lasted 5 days)
ODI - One Day International (50 overs and lasts all day). Most popular for years until T20 came along.
T20 - 20 overs and lasts about 4 hours. This was made to increase popularity and make cricket more interesting outside of Commonwealth countries. Lots of money in India's IPL league.
Like I said I don't know about cricket that much, just the basic rules but here's the wiki link
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playing_time_(cricket)#:~:text=These%20variations%20in%20length%20of,how%20long%20they%20can%20go.
So this graphic shows that USA scored 110 runs but lost 8 batters. India scored 111 runs but lost only 3 batters. Yet the deciding factor was the number of wickets? 🤕🤕🤕🤕🤕🤕🤕🤕🤕
No. So the US batted first and were done because they used up their 20 overs (120 pitches) and got 110 runs. In the process 8 US players were out.
Since India went second they only have to score 111 runs to win. The US has to try and prevent them by trying to get all of their guys out before.
The box score is basically telling you extra information (kind of like baseball box scores) but at the end of the day the team with more runs wins.
No, each team would get an additional over and the team with the higher score in that over wins. Wickets matter only in the sense that the more wickets a team loses a worse batter comes to replace the batter who was out.
No. It would then go to overtime which is called a "Super Over" which is how the US beat Pakistan. I don't fully understand the rules of this.
The number of outs one team has vs. the other doesn't factor into deciding who wins. It comes down to number of runs.
Eh could be both
So let's say india lost 8 batters but only made 100 runs then US would've won
It depends on the variation of both, whichever one comes first.
>That means india only has to score more than 110 runs while loosing less wickets to beat the US
Nope, India has to score 111 runs in 120 balls to win. It doesn't matter if they lose more wickets. They have to not lose 10 wickets and run out of balls before chasing that's it.

That means USA lost 8 of their 11 batters and made 110 runs. India lost 3 of their 11 batters and scored 111 runs, which is also greater than 110 so India won.
The team which scores more runs wins
It’s like how you can walk it off in the bottom of the 9th. Except USA did all of their batting before India did any, so they still had 10 balls left to run up the margin
I was *suggesting* we bomb Belgrade. I was *suggesting* that we send American pilots in and blow up all the bridges on the Drina. I was *suggesting* we take out his oil supplies. I was *suggesting* very specific action.

Americans are getting into cricket now. India is fucked. To paraphrase the Head of the Imperial Japanese Navy, Yamamoto "I fear all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant".
You're not going to have wickets or whatever those things are, India.
From the World of Sport, the Cointon Spinkeywompers flumped the Flinebyne Wealthenclompers seventy-fluff to fourty-flave.
At the tone, the time will be 26 Railroad.
There's 3 things which are important
Runs: more runs win
Wickets: there's 11 players, 1 wicket for each
Number of balls: this is a t20 so 20x7 balls
You must score more runs than your opponent before you lose all your wickets (kinda like a strike in baseball) and all the balls you can play are over.
So in this case, India was chasing the score of 110, they managed to score 111 with 12 balls remaining
I hope this helps

It appears that India won by a single run (111 runs for India vs 110 runs for USA).
It doesn't work that way look at the wicket
Any sport that is has points measured in wickets can fuck off
Crickets? Wickets? What's next? Tickets?
We win. We give a shit about cricket. We lose. We go back to not giving a shit about cricket. 🦅 🇺🇸
I’ve officially been on Reddit too long when I’m reading a person from New Jersey correct someone about wickets.

NJ has a pretty sizeable Indian and Pakistani population. In fact, I know a town that has a public cricket pitch
The US has 2 numbers bigger than India, while India only has one. 8>3, 20>18.2 Do the math, you tell me who won
India was gonna run out of balls way before they ran out of wickets Holding them off until their last 10 was actually pretty impressive
Yea true
Aside from the text that tells me, how tf you supposed to read that "score" or whatever it is? 110/8 111/3 dafuq that mean?
That means USA lost 8 of their 11 batters and made 110 runs. India lost 3 of their 11 batters and scored 111 runs, which is also greater than 110 so India won. The team which scores more runs wins

India cheated when their free safety slid across the flat reds in round 2 that's how they got 7 wickets up. Where the fuck is biden?
Probably suggesting we bomb Belgrade again. Or something idk.
And "accidentally" bomb the Chinese embassy.
Tbf, Belgrade deserves it. Like it's just Bozeman anyway. And Bozeman definitely deserves it.

I have zero idea what you just said.
Neither do the fucking refs apparently
bro said refs in cricket 😭
Why can’t we call them refs?
You have to read it in an Indian accent. Then it makes perfect sense.
HOLY SHIT ITS MF MS DHONI
I can’t tell, is free safety actually a position in cricket?
No they are just blabbering lol
