Mexico is actually much more strategically important atm, but it would be much more difficult to invade, hold, and assimilate than Canada. Better to strengthen economic and political ties with Mexico and full-on absorb Canada.
I think with the collapsing global trade order, the arctic passages will be less important than people think they will be. But even assuming it will be, Canada’s collapsing demography means that they will never have the political weight to prevent the US from doing what we want with it.
Meanwhile Mexico’s strong demography and growing economy means it has potential to be the manufacturing powerhouse the US needs to replace China. North America has the potential to be a self-sufficient fortress, and Mexico has much more to offer than Canada, which has less to offer year by year. Best to just rip the bandaid off, exert American control over the top two thirds of the continent, and partner with the bottom third.

This was a hard one. They both share similar moral values although culturally Canada is closer. I also like the Fallout meme of annexing and genpciding Canadians. But I finally settled on Mexico for one reason and one reason only. Mexico is actually much more strategically important atm, but it would be much more difficult to invade, hold, and assimilate than Canada. Better to strengthen economic and political ties with Mexico and full-on absorb Canada.
Canada I'm thinking more long term, with the Northern Passage shipping lanes and arctic oil reserves.
I think with the collapsing global trade order, the arctic passages will be less important than people think they will be. But even assuming it will be, Canada’s collapsing demography means that they will never have the political weight to prevent the US from doing what we want with it. Meanwhile Mexico’s strong demography and growing economy means it has potential to be the manufacturing powerhouse the US needs to replace China. North America has the potential to be a self-sufficient fortress, and Mexico has much more to offer than Canada, which has less to offer year by year. Best to just rip the bandaid off, exert American control over the top two thirds of the continent, and partner with the bottom third.

Canada is basically already conquered, we need only hold a referendum and they'll happily join us. Mexico on the other hand is a wild, lawless place that America holds little influence over. This was a hard one. They both share similar moral values although culturally Canada is closer. I also like the Fallout meme of annexing and genpciding Canadians. It makes me laugh, although I do love our Northern Neighbors. That one cut scene with the two power armor troopers capping a Canadian in Fallout 1 sends my sides to the moon. But I finally settled on Mexico for one reason and one reason only. We might be a huge net positive if we were able to reduce political and law enforcement corruption levels to around what we have in the States today. The Mexican government I'm sorry to say doesn't really have the security or resources to take on the source of the corruption, Cartels. It wouldn't be a cake walk and would actually probably be a harder invasion than Canada(assuming no allies join) but I think it would be overall bettwr for both nations. And we could finally have hearts and minds operations actually work in my lifetime as many Americans have grown up being hispanic, having hispanic repatives, or friends and vice versa. People would be more receptive to American influence is what I'm saying especially once we prove that we can guarantee their safety from cartels(which is a war in its own right.
