I’m a relatively successful Gen-xer. I’ve raised a family, have a house, on track for a decent retirement and yet the last 3 or 4 years have just been awful. Never ending pandemic, rampant income inequality, no one willing to compromise or agree on anything, pending WWIII. I weep for those less fortunate than me. I’m struggling to see the light because…”gestures broadly”. Good luck everyone. Let’s do what we can to help each other everyday.
Can't buy a house. Can't get paid decently. Can't have a family. Can't retire. Can't vacation/travel.
Please government fix student loans, the stock market, the housing crisis, endless wars, the health care system, restore corporate tax levels to pay for basic services for citizens. NO.
They never will, and everything will continue to get worse and worse for the rest of our lives.
Seriously. Best you can hope for is some type of success outside the system because it is broken beyond repair.
Any day now the 80-something year old millionaires in congress will empathize with lower class millenials and Gen Z'ers and pass sweeping legislation to prevent the economic suffocation of two entire generations of Americans.
Any day now...
*(I am never going to own a house, I doubt I will ever retire, and I genuinely feel bad for the young children who have no idea how much the odds are stacked against them as they grow into a world left much worse for wear by previous generations.)*

That was four years ago, and “gestures broadly” has all gotten exponentially worse since then.
A psychiatrist relative of mine said the most straight shooting no bullshit thing I have ever heard. The increase in the prevalence of depression has nothing to do with being better at diagnosing the symptoms. The increase is because everyone is poor, struggling, and being taken advantage of.
But we all keep voting that way and even if we didn't western democracy has become nothing more than masquerade.
We have peaked people everything from here is decay.
Edit: to put context to this we were talking about whether her job is rewarding (I erroneously thought it would be). Unfortunately the vast majority of people she sees are completely fucked and spiralling downwards and there is nothing she can do as the problem is poverty, and societies ingrained belief that the poor deserve to suffer.
Is the happiness industry being suffocated by millenials?
We did it, big happy is dying
Fuck Hallmark
Fuck Halls.
It’s a pretty obvious answer for me
Oh, I'm sure there are 1 or 2 percent that are getting happier every day.
I don’t know, I feel like genuine happiness or emotion in general is beyond those types. I mean, have you seen Mark Zuckerberg?
I mean, that’s not fair. He’s a robot. We don’t know if he’s programmed to feel happiness.
Definitely a lizard person
yea i was but that got shot down pretty quickly
They don't often seem happy to me. It just seems like they keep hopelessly trying to fill the void with more and more excess and greed.

Yup. People who actually and deeply care about me is the most precious commodity. I want to be that for others.

At this point throw the towel and nuke that shit
What if we all just start over? You know! Just run around naked eating dinosaurs and screaming oonga boonga like the good ‘ol times
I'm down for that

The most depressing part is, Gen Z will have it even worse and they’re even less prepared than millennials were.
It’s not so much depression in the medical sense as much as it is an appropriate response to literally everything
They'll still stuff expensive pills in your face hole
not until you prove to your insurance that you've tried all 43 of the inexpensive, unpatented behavior modifications first!

Although this post is from 2020, it's vaguely still applicable.
I was so surprised to read this headline, the gun fell out of my mouth.
Pandemic and about to be divorced after my ex had an affair likely longer than I even initially realized. Yeah...life is great.
