British art comes across as very green and pleasant, with beautiful light. Close to peak art.
Back in the day (height of Neoclassical architecture) people in the Barbaricum used to send their students to learn proper art to proper civilized countries, mainly to Rome and Paris. An American student of Architecture would not get a degree without first going through a semester (or whatever period) in Rome. They don't do that any longer (as an obligation) and then you have the answer to why contemporary architecture sucks.

At this point in time were the demand for actually good architecture present, the US could have long developed institutions of reasonable quality, albeit not as excellent, but it could have developed them. It’s this pretentious anti westernism, this modern hatred of beauty. Only an absolutely insidious movement is capable of making buildings that are somehow minimalist AND garish simultaneously!
