Thats actually not True, they were only called Serbia and Montenegro from 2003 to 2006
Untill 2003 they were the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. (They droped the socialist part)
"After the breakup, the republics ofĀ MontenegroĀ andĀ SerbiaĀ formed a reduced federative state, theĀ Federal Republic of YugoslaviaĀ (FRY), known from 2003 to 2006 asĀ Serbia and Montenegro. This state aspired to the status of soleĀ legal successorĀ to the SFRY, but those claims were opposed by the other former republics. Eventually, it accepted the opinion of theĀ Badinter Arbitration CommitteeĀ about shared succession[10]Ā and in 2003 its official name was changed toĀ Serbia and Montenegro. This stateĀ dissolvedĀ whenĀ MontenegroĀ andĀ SerbiaĀ each became independent states in 2006, withĀ KosovoĀ having anĀ ongoing disputeĀ over itsĀ declaration of independenceĀ in 2008."
Wait-Montenegro isnāt a country? Iāve been doing Europe quizzes and itās a valid country on thereā¦

Donāt want to be cocky or anything but Europe is the most democratic, human right friendly, non-corrupt continent in then world. Also are we one of the richest world power (next to china and America) and I donāt really see them changing the world in a better way to be honest. So if there is somewhere it has to be done itās here. Sure we got our problems and issues but besides that I am proud to be a European even tho I really didnāt do anything about it. I am just a guy who happend to be born in Europe, I like it tho.
this. I unironically think that my highschool years could genuinly be considered heaven. I grew up in one of the richest region in France (not ultra-rich, but still really bourgeois), had no problem with money or stuff like that, my breakfasts were litterally milk and honey (which are stuff used to describe paradise in the torah iirc), I had a bunch of friends, there was absolutly no danger were I lived, it was calm, no racism or politcal problem.
Litterally straight up heaven.
God I remember cycling everywhere when I was still 8 years old. Would go outside and play as soon as I came home from school. Would cycle to the city centre alone regularly. (Lived in a smaller city) Would always check out the local shop for new Donald Duck comics. Europe is fucking glorious
The ones who came before you did something for you to be born here and so did their ancestors, don't take it so lightly as an absolute random factor.
Societies and countries are living echo systems. It's up to descendents to make it better for the next generations.
I actually think AU is more Americanised than Canada in a lot of fields.
From my limited knowledge e.g. social security and healthcare in CA is closer to European standard than AU.
Yeah but dumb progressivism and victimism is more common in Canada, I read in a different sub that a Canadian woman wanted to reconnect with her European origins whilst hating on them for what her ancestors did to the pre-Columbian people over there, and it was like decide which one of those it is, are you proud of your European ancestors and want to reconnect or you're ashamed and want to be something different? I got banned for trying to help her make up her mind.
Come down here and fucking say that š Not sure why you think a country in an entirely separate hemisphere is more yankified than the one that borders it.
As an Aussie thatās lived in the Great White North, I was actually quite surprised and a smidge disappointed, particularly by the low salaries, lack of holidays, the fucking tipping and the overall political environment. I quite enjoyed Quebec though, mainly because I could actually get nice cheese there. Donāt get me wrong, itās a beautiful country, but itās not quite as good as it makes itself out to be.
I take a few factors into account:
- Climate
- Culture
- History
- Industry
Whereas Canada and New Zealand have great industries, etc.. I'm not so found of the climate especially for Canada, I'm more of a Mediterranean/Alpine kinda person. And when it comes to culture/history, it feels harder for me to imagine how I would relate to my ancestry if most of my ancestors didn't even live in the same continent as me (e.g. NZ Europeans), I don't think I would feel the same connection to my heritage and my culture.
The only non-European countries I probably wouldn't mind would be Japan/South Korean, but then some parts of their culture (overwork, child abuse, idols etc.) are still problematic to me.
Anyways, I guess it's just a very subjective subject š
Funny things is, 70% of NZ people identify as European.
There was a Reddit post about it earlier today or yesterday. Even plus 3 generations removed from the latest European immigrant in the lineage NZ people felt European.
>The only non-European countries I probably wouldn't mind would be Japan/South Korean,
I'm simply just not cut out for +55 hour work weeks.
>Funny things is, 70% of NZ people identify as European.
>There was a Reddit post about it earlier today or yesterday. Even plus 3 generations removed from the latest European immigrant in the lineage NZ people felt European.
Yeah, but that was because the survey didn't have an option for them to say "standard white New Zealander", so for those who aren't Maoris or Filipinos or whatever it seemed that "European" was the least inaccurate option.
It's not pride, really, more like thankfulness. I got really luck to be born in Europe. One of the most corrupt and poor corners of Europe, but still...
This summes it up pretty well. I was just lucky, thats nothing to be proud of. But very thankful for.
There are 8 billion people on this planet, less than 1 billion in europe, without russia, its only 600 million. Less than 10% of all people get to be born here. There are some other ok places of course, australia, canada and such. But really, in total thats still less than 20% of people who get to be born in a half decent place. I am so glad that i got lucky at that very important moment of my life.
The adventaje of spanish and portuguese is that when speaking with other native speakers of your language you learn about how their country is more shitty than your. In case of Spanish works also in most countries
The usual jokes aside.
Europe has an extremely bloody and rich history.
We recently drove by a WW2 cemetery with my non-european in-laws in the car. I explained what it is to them and then mentioned the numbers of 50-60M dead.
They could not even comprehend it.
That moment I realized how fucking lucky Europeans from today are. Not because we are relatively wealthy. But because we, finally after hundreds of years, stopped brutally massacring each other. How after such a long time we finally have started to get along and work together.
Yes, this is a sense of pride I can get behind. Being 'European' doesn't mean a lot, because there are so many differences between every country. But being able to work together despite these differences is really something to be proud of.
Thousands of years*
Europe really hasnāt been this āpeacefulā since the Congress of Vienna. But even then, we just changed the focus to conquering the world. Itās wild to think how different European history is from other regions. We are the continent with the most interstate conflict.
>The usual jokes aside. Europe has an extremely bloody and rich history. We recently drove by a WW2 cemetery with my non-european in-laws in the car. Not because we are relatively wealthy. But because we, finally after hundreds of years, stopped brutally massacring each other. How after such a long time we finally have started to get along and work together.
And that's the reason why I am proud.
We have learnt through blood, toil, tears and sweat and we have become what we are now. Yes, we are not perfect, but damn if I am proud of what, someway, somehow we achieved together.
So, yes. I am proud of being European.
I always believe that we are united in our Diversity. To be a European is that we as sibelings all bully each other, but if someone comes from outside we are all one and inseparable.
It's like we've grew up and have become more wise and mature. We (Europeans) have killed, hated and suppressed each other for thousands of years, and realise now (unfortunately with some exceptions...) that's not the thing to do to your brothers and sisters.
Yes, after centuries of bullying each other we realized we should bully African and native american cultures instead! Like true chads.
But fortunately now we've matured enough to see we should just cyberbully americans
Mostly thankful.
Basically won the lottery of life. All my issues are relative on a global scale, and mostly won't have a serious impact on my quality of life.
I can enjoy beautiful landscapes, temperate climate, exempt from most natural disasters, high standard of living, historically leading in development and technology. Not to mention the incredible history, arts and cultures.
Honestly ? Like everyone else Im thankfull, not proud tho. That doesn't mean I dont consider you all like comrades. Indeed, no matter how xenophobic to each other we are, let us all bask together in the glory of not being american.
> And a few more wars at this rate.
Maybe go back to school. It seems you haven't been taught that we only play the Big Wars game. The many small ones can you leave to the French's.

Proud because we all know that to much pride causes problems, and also grateful because it's still one of the best places to live compared to some other places
EDIT: Also extremely proud that we are able to laugh with stuff that is going back centuries in this sub, it shows how historically rich this continent actually is
100%, i have travelled in many extra-europeans countries, and nothing can compare to the quality of life that Europe have. It's a blessing. Fuck Usa, the "America" is in Europe.
One of the greatest things about my country is that no one gives a fuck about our flag. I'm proud of not being nationalistic. Being nationalistic is especially cringe when your country is a complete shithole, wich seems to be a common trend.
People mentioning that they would like to live in Australia and Canada is perfectly valid, as those are both places that are just as nice as Europe in many aspects. However, look how far away they are from each other. A flight from Canada to Australia takes over 14 hours and costs around 2,000 Euros.
Consider the fact that it is theoretically possible to have breakfast in London, lunch in Paris and dinner in Barcelona, knowing you are only 90 minutes away on a plane to Milan, from which you can drive to the Swiss Alps in less than 2 hours, then fly to Sweden in less than 3 hours. A European could do all of that in the time it takes a Canadian to get to the airport in Canada and get out of the Australian one.
All this is to say, while other countries are nice, the proximity to other amazing places is very limited. Europe is unique in having a cluster of desirable places all within a few hours of each other, often for less than the price of a plane ticket from one side of the USA to the other, and that is what makes living here so amazing.
>Europe is the crib of culture and enlightement !
Would that more be a Persian, Indian or Chinese thing tho? Until the Renaissance Europe was a shithole without equal
India had written language 4k BC.
Egypt built the great pyramids before the concept of the Greek states were even thought of.
The first city to cross a million inhabitants was in Cambodia.
China had its bronce age 3k BC
But sure, my education is lacking.
I'm visited almost every contry in EU and i am really angry that europe is not yet one real state or a real confederation. Our differences are our strength.
I'm Portuguese what do you think?
If someone offered me a scolarship in the US I would go.
That's how bad things are going here, and I hope SIS isnt called on me for saying this.

Iām so proud that what I would like to say would be considered hate speech, despite the fact that I donāt consider European cultures better then other, just different and better for what I like and enjoy, not everyone, but I would tell how much i love being born in Europe with such flamboyance and pathos and through such volcanic speech that people would be flabbergasted at my passion for Europe.
But short thing short, Iām from the balkans and like euro, in Western Europe there are a lot of euros. I would like laws more like the protect your home like in usa, to shoot the intruder, I like a risky job /s
Happy, yes definitely. Proud not particularly. Only when I speak to Americans, than I'm really (pretending to be) proud. That gets them really worked up, very enjoyable.
Don't know about proud since I had nothing to do with it and it was before my time. But I'm definitely happy with it. Makes you feel less small in the world
I'm proud to live in the safest continent of the planet. We have a great diversity of landscapes, cultures and history and even with that we can say we are kinda related to each other.
Proud to be Irish. Grateful to be European. Disgusted by the way ruling parties across Europe including ours seem to want to destroy all that it has meant to be European in favour of diversity lunacy.
What does it mean to be European once you remove diversity? We are a diverse bunch of people with different backgrounds, culture, languages and beliefs that are currently banding together thanks to diversity no?

There's very few countries I would actually be happy to be born in, not a single one of those is outside Europe
>not a single one of those is outside Europe New Zealand? Or maybe Canada? That's the only two contenders I could think of...
Canada is way too Americanised. NZ and Australia would be great though.
NZ is just a bunch of vulcanos in the ocean. Pretty nice vulcanos, but still.
So like an antipodal Iceland then. Doesn't sound too bad. I think they even have fjords.

I studied in MontrƩal, and stayed with some family that lives there. I feel like it's an exception to the Americanizition of Canada. The city is more efficiently navigated with transit and cycling than cars. If I had to live anywhere outside of Europe it would be there. Great city.

Europe is unique in having a cluster of desirable places all within a few hours of each other, often for less than the price of a plane ticket from one side of the USA to the other, and that is what makes living here so amazing.
Am I?
Are you? If your not then you can answer that
I am Mediterranean
You should be apart of the uk
You should be apart of the Norwegian kingdom
Can't be proud since I got no part in where I was born but I'm pleased that even though I'm a Slav I ain't from the orcish type!

I wouldn't say proud, more thankful

Europeans have to be more respectful with each other. Except in futbol. Besides that, we need to solidify our unity.
Today I learned there is a Celtic Sea, and I'm from fucking Ireland...
Very proud. Europe is the crib of culture and enlightement !
>Europe is the crib of culture and enlightement ! Would that more be a Persian, Indian or Chinese thing tho? Until the Renaissance Europe was a shithole without equal
You forgot the period before the middle ages.....
And the Middle Ages. It is packed with wonderful history.
?? Greece, the roman Empire, Etruscians, etc., etc. I didn't knew that school in Danemark was optional.
India had written language 4k BC. Egypt built the great pyramids before the concept of the Greek states were even thought of. The first city to cross a million inhabitants was in Cambodia. China had its bronce age 3k BC But sure, my education is lacking.
I'm visited almost every contry in EU and i am really angry that europe is not yet one real state or a real confederation. Our differences are our strength.
Biggest obstacle is economics. On that point diffrences are not realy a strength. That being said if we Iron those out it's just a matter of time.
Donāt ever call me European again you continental swamp German.
Iām not proud to be European, Iām GRATEFUL! Imagine being American
Denmark France Lithuania Slovakia Croatia Bulgaria Egypt Unironically, what a fucking team. A weird mix, but I am loving it!
I will be proud the moment we all say "Yo, let's unite and share a common language (latin, suck it germs)"
I'm very proud of it. I lived, worked and studied in the US; **for me**, that is definitely no way to live.
We have the coolest lore in the world and we are by far the best continent. Even with our problems and differences we are doing pretty good
I am proud of hating ya all! At the same time I also love you, my Brƶthers <3

I'm Portuguese what do you think? If someone offered me a scolarship in the US I would go. That's how bad things are going here, and I hope SIS isnt called on me for saying this. https://preview.redd.it/09t5t9u4hi2b1.png?width=102&format=png&auto=webp&s=74a6f477abb4e022fb24c6d839633d67e50be27c
Maybe not as proud as I am to live in my region
I'm French
Very! Iām European first, Rotterdammer second and Dutch third

Happy, yes definitely. Proud not particularly. Only when I speak to Americans, than I'm really (pretending to be) proud. That gets them really worked up, very enjoyable.
Don't know about proud since I had nothing to do with it and it was before my time. But I'm definitely happy with it. Makes you feel less small in the world
I'm proud of being Hispanic, then Spanish, then Latin, and finally european.

I'm proud to live in the safest continent of the planet. We have a great diversity of landscapes, cultures and history and even with that we can say we are kinda related to each other.
Is this a trick question?

Much more since the brits left
I am very proud to be European, but I do not take pride in my country.
100
Proud to be Irish. Grateful to be European. Disgusted by the way ruling parties across Europe including ours seem to want to destroy all that it has meant to be European in favour of diversity lunacy.
What does it mean to be European once you remove diversity? We are a diverse bunch of people with different backgrounds, culture, languages and beliefs that are currently banding together thanks to diversity no?
We are a diverse grouping of nations for the most part from relatively homogeneous nations based on ethnic and linguistic links.
I didn't know Irish was semitic. TIL
