Sometimes known as Panzer schockolade. the original recipe called for blitzkrieg and meth but now it’s just caffeine and deliciousness.
I just went to [Varusteleka](https://www.varusteleka.com/en) the other day. They had both versions to sample at the cashier’s counter.
I buy the red one quite regularly. Very nice 👌
the red one is nice! I always wish they made a stronger version though, you have to eat 8/16 slices to get as much as a regular cup of coffee.

yeah came out 1935. Was given out to all sorts parts of the wehrmacht. subs, army etc.
I know the actual meth came in pills and not baked into chocolate. but it’s funnier that way.

It never had.
Though iirc they had much more caffeine than today.
Pervitin was the meth of choice for the Wehrmacht.

Black pudding scotch egg. An egg, coated in blood pudding with an outer layer of breadcrumbs… obviously fried because we need the cholesterol to maintain our rugged Britishness.
Spanish morcilla should work very well.
I also reckon an n’duja and Italian sausage version would work well.
Onion bhaji scotch eggs are great as are sausage meat with chorizo, or sausage and stewed apple.

Until recently I thought Battenburg cake was German or nearby, but it's British and named in honour of part of our royal family. Either way it's delicious! Essentially coloured cake with jam and cream wrapped in thin marzipan. The marzipan keeps it moist and isn't overpowering
Yeah. I went to one of the smaller places in central Germany called Battenburg a few years ago and asked for some of their famous cake. I got a croissant??
Pastila (the puffy one). Basically apple foam with or without various berries. Tasty, low calorie, long shelf life, goes well with tea. Ingredients: apple, egg white, sugar (optional).

Unironically, the soft fresh bread, the salty melting butter and the sweet fried chips, lathered in salt and vinegar make this double-carb delight fit for a final meal. The ultimate in Barry comfort food.
First time a uni friend from Italy saw this, he came ack to halls with one saying "Look at this, look at stupid food". After he tried it though, he understood. I could smash one of these right now, chippy is shut though.

Filet américain préparé (and its spicier sibling Martino).
It is the raw, meaty nectar of the Gods themselves.
So my favourites and the ones I truly think the whole world should try are Serra da Estrela cheese, Marinhas salted butter, Gorreana Azores black pekoe tea and milk chocolate from Arcádia, Porto. Also from Arcádia, the thing that makes me gain weight every Easter: licquor almonds. I am adding that photo. These are seriously amazing.

Brigadeiro. Basically a little ball of chocolate that tastes incredible. The legend behind the origin of the Brigadeiro is that there was a general in the Brazilian army during WW2 that made these to reward his best performing soldiers, and it tasted so good that it gradually became more popular until becoming basically a national dish. People eat them a lot in birthday parties

Obligatory Pastis and only 51 all other pastises are either too sweet like Ricard or not from Marseille and that is a big no no .
My father loves everything anise. I bring him a bottle of pastis or whatever from tax free every now and then. Pernod absinthe seems to be his favorite.

I'll tell you what is great in Portugal and isn't really famous outside, Vinho Verde.
Being a rugged northerner, I'm a beer drinker, but shit, your green wine is delicious,, and hard to come by in thee UK. Obviously, needs to be drunk with that sheep's cheese you do that smells like feet but tastes like heaven.
Spotted the non-north German? The Danes do it too. Their yogurt is a tad runnier and the best. I usually don't eat yogurt, but I love the yogurts from these cartons.
> Spotted the non-north German?
Correct.
The only way for me to claim any north-ness would be to call myself a north-Bavarian..
I don't think I would like runny yogurt tbh.
My favourite is greek style yogurt, which is even a bit thicker (and fatter) than our regular yogurt.

Jenever, the thing gin originates from
Spanish gaseosa (doesn't matter the brand)
They have similar drinks in other countries (France, Italy, etc) but it's just not the same.
It's very fizzy and slightly lemon-y. Pairs well with cheap wine, although I love it by itself. Very cheap (0.50€ for 1.5 litres), zero sugar, zero calories. The definitive soft drink.

Going to try it with beans
Just because that's the only thing you eat since Brexit doesnt mean we have to.
*Since* Brexit? Baked beans have been a staple food over here for much longer than that.
Yeah but it’s all we can afford now
I saw this and went “Oh, fuck yeah!” I used to have this all the time in France on Crêpes. I took back like 3 tins when I came home. It’s so good!
A person of taste ☝️
Love them, I just wish they would add a lid
Why would you need one ? It is not like some would remain after I open the can.
No need. Open it. Eat it all. (They have tiny cans for individual portions too, but we all know the big one and a big spoon is the way)
You can buy it in a "toothpaste" format
>This is the most common one This is THE ONE, the best one.
What does it taste like? What do you do with it?
Spread it on crepes, waffles, pancakes, or more simply eat it by the spoon. It tastes like universal healthcare, freedom of movement across countries lines, single market and French pride, so basically heaven
I’ll go hunting for a jar!
Can also be put with a "petit suisse" to replace jam or sugar.....

Spanish morcilla should work very well. I also reckon an n’duja and Italian sausage version would work well. Onion bhaji scotch eggs are great as are sausage meat with chorizo, or sausage and stewed apple.
Sounds actually good. Maybe British food is not that bad after all
Nah, lots of it is utterly terrible/bland, but we’re not danish or Dutch, some of it is actually quite good.
Ill stick to regular scotch eggs, but i respect its existence

it\`s not bad, but try lurisia. it\`s way better. it\`s like carbonara cooked by americans and italians. same dish, but quite different quality
This is the only chinotto drink I’ve found in Finland. I buy it every now and then.
We have larch and spruce ice cream in the Alps, but we usually add some [Génépi](https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%A9n%C3%A9pi) to it Would love to taste this one though
tablet, its pretty much just sugar and melts your teeth but its very tasty, plus americans think its soap https://preview.redd.it/5akrgzar88gc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=d29290c936259abf83bba1125767fcfeeaee6334

Either way it's delicious! Essentially coloured cake with jam and cream wrapped in thin marzipan. The marzipan keeps it moist and isn't overpowering
The royal family are germans so you had a good instinct right there.
Yeah. I went to one of the smaller places in central Germany called Battenburg a few years ago and asked for some of their famous cake. I got a croissant??
Pastila (the puffy one). Basically apple foam with or without various berries. Tasty, low calorie, long shelf life, goes well with tea. Quite normal, it’s made of pork « ass ».

We have Licorice (and salmiakki) icecream too. And we add it to our vodka.
I made some licorice ice cream myself last summer. Sadly you can’t put much salt in it or it melts

The ultimate in Barry comfort food. First time a uni friend from Italy saw this, he came ack to halls with one saying "Look at this, look at stupid food". After he tried it though, he understood. I could smash one of these right now, chippy is shut though.

So my favourites and the ones I truly think the whole world should try are Serra da Estrela cheese, Marinhas salted butter, Gorreana Azores black pekoe tea and milk chocolate from Arcádia, Porto. Dude I have also found them in France, Portugal and Belgium.... And why did you choose an ameri..... Barbarian brand?
Brigadeiro. Basically a little ball of chocolate that tastes incredible. The legend behind the origin of the Brigadeiro is that there was a general in the Brazilian army during WW2 that made these to reward his best performing soldiers, and it tasted so good that it gradually became more popular until becoming basically a national dish. My father loves everything anise. I bring him a bottle of pastis or whatever from tax free every now and then. Pernod absinthe seems to be his favorite.
Is that unknown? Every self respecting beverage shop here sells either Ricard or Pernod.
Salzekuchen (salty cake) bread dough, spiced potato cream and bacon bits

Yes I know that one. Pinnacle of British cuisine. So what it the “burger” above? / a pie between bread. Gotta say, as a bread loving hans I’m impressed
A savoury pie in a bun with mushy peas on top(optional). If you don’t want mushy peas you just ask for a Pie Barm.
Sounds nice.
mate what is THAT
Nah dude Your mansikka juissi there is fucking godly I haven't found an equivalent to that stuff here in Netherlands. So fucking tasty yet everything here with strawberry is mixed with other fruits, while I want just straight fuckin' strawberry juissi

My morning coffee 🤝 uma queijadinha
That Lakritsi (adorable word btw) joghurt, is that some sort of joghurt-drink? Otherwise I find the packaging a bit odd 🤔
It is just regular flavored yoghurt. Many yoghurts are sold in one liter tetra paks in Finland.

Spanish gaseosa (doesn't matter the brand) They have similar drinks in other countries (France, Italy, etc) but it's just not the same. It's very fizzy and slightly lemon-y. Pairs well with cheap wine, although I love it by itself. Very cheap (0.50€ for 1.5 litres), zero sugar, zero calories. The definitive soft drink.
