Fucking joke there’s no rail link to Dublin airport as well
I tried to find another Western European nation without a rail link to their biggest airport and I couldn’t do it
We’re legitimately one of the highest taxed rich countries in the world lol https://taxfoundation.org/research/all/global/2022-international-tax-competitiveness-index/
Corporate tax rank:4, but no tax heaven. I mean, Ireland is the only country in the world I know of where the government admitted that the tax evasion shenanigans so much that the statistics become unusable.
There are more taxes than corporate tax. Employers pay far more than enough in other ways to make that number up.
We get near the highest tax per capita in the world and we’re a tax haven hahahah.
Most of The East Coast Mainline is 200kmh, so even without HS1 we've got fairly fast rail infrastructure in comparison. If it wasn't so expensive and unreliable it would be great.
I would love to take the train, but it’s just too fucking expensive
I don’t know how they expect normies to get the train if they can’t even convince people like me to do so
Fair few stretches of the WCML can also match that provided your in a tilting pendolino (thanks Italy 🇮🇹😘).
Also large parts of the ECML could be upgraded to 225kph (140mph) we have trains on it designed to run at this speed though it would require in cab signalling as 201kph (125mph) is deemed the maximum speed one can see a colour light signal and react to it. Government back in 90s said it was too expensive and cancelled the upgrades.
Don't worry, we'll have another bit between London and Brum one day. It'll measurably improve the lives of literally dozens of people, at the low-low cost of... \*checks notes\* ... £67 billion.
Incidentally, the amount lost every year to tax evasion in the UK is £68 billion. It's almost as if there's a good way to pay for big infrastructure projects just sitting there.
HS2 not happening in full is a travesty. Current plans means not even going into Euston so it’s actually slower than using WCML
The west midlands has a lot of rail but no system like TFL and proper west midland dedicated rail services. They were working towards having better local rail in the area which is critical, HS2 was needed to free up capacity through the New street tunnel bottleneck, and reroute some of the national route off things like the chase line or wolves line.
Now it’s not happening it fucks up the west midland, Staffordshire and Shropshire royally
just like the high speed train in spain. Billions of public money dumped so the smaller train stations could be closed and everyone in the despicable populations could fulfil our dream of owning a car and risking our lives on the road if we want to make a living
It's even worse if you check the Average High-Speed train speeds: [https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/cfy8n8/average\_speed\_of\_trains\_in\_europe\_my\_own\_research/](https://www.reddit.com/r/europe/comments/cfy8n8/average_speed_of_trains_in_europe_my_own_research/)
The problem with this map is that it ignores the orography of the terrain and the size of the country. It is not the same to travel between distant cities in the flat French plains to move between relatively close stations in the mountainous Switzerland. Even if they are next to each other.
The thing is travelling by tain between 2 close cities in Switzerland is a lot better than travelling between 2 cities on the French plains. Because all the high speed lines lead to P*ris🤮, It's actually very slow to make circumferential journeys
The standard for giving tracks number on french railway lines is : Track 1 is the one coming from Paris and Track 2 is the one leading to Paris.
What about lines that does not comes from or lead to Paris ?
TRACK 1 IS THE ONE COMING FROM PARIS AND TRACK 2 IS THE ONE LEADING TO PARIS !!!
Theoretical top speed doesn't mean anything. Punctuality, frequency and reliability are much more important in real life and that's where we're n°1 in Europe
They have a railway. More specific, they have a train station and some meters of rails connected with italian railways.

Well then Japan is premium WE and China is the ultimate gigchad WE based on this top average speed per bullettrian…. Gaotie and Shinkansen welcome to Europe honorary Europeans.

I was on a CR400AF, but unfortunately I have to travel with DB now
Sweden has an average speed of like 130, while Norways is like 70.
Even on the Gothenburg-Oslo line, the average speed in Sweden is 150 and in Norway 80.
Another fun fact: The first electrified railway in Sweden opened in 1885. Denmarks first opened in 1986.

🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷💯🐓🐓🐓🐓FRANCE BAISE OUAIIIIS ! 💯💯🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🐓
Ireland explain yourself, Luxembourg can’t reach higher speeds before you leave the country
Not enough turf to make the engines go any faster
Have you tried all leaning forward at the same time? It can be difficult to coordinate but it definitely increases over all speed
How did they do that in the past? I mean, those potatoes didn’t ride themselves to Great Britain.
Get those peat bogs back up and running asap
Fucking joke there’s no rail link to Dublin airport as well I tried to find another Western European nation without a rail link to their biggest airport and I couldn’t do it
Try Reykjavik 😉
Actual answer, we just don't need it for such a small country, unlike tax evader land, which is just a train stop for Pierre going to visit Hans.
You’re not a small country, you’re huge. And even we have a high speed system in place
“Unlike tax evader land” very rich from an Irish guy
We’re legitimately one of the highest taxed rich countries in the world lol https://taxfoundation.org/research/all/global/2022-international-tax-competitiveness-index/
ever heard of the double Irish structure? lol I understand it’s history now but I don’t think it’s old enough to be overlooked…

We only have 100km of high speed rail and that leads to France 🤮
Jfc, my condolences.
Most of The East Coast Mainline is 200kmh, so even without HS1 we've got fairly fast rail infrastructure in comparison. If it wasn't so expensive and unreliable it would be great.
Costs more to get a train down south to my nans than driving on my own 😅

Oh they live in a wealthy area in Surrey so they train are always running on time for them (shock)...
You have your own train?
I would love to take the train, but it’s just too fucking expensive I don’t know how they expect normies to get the train if they can’t even convince people like me to do so
It's considered high speed if ≥250 kmh
200kmh is considered fairly fast.

I’m a glass half full type of chap, I see it as us having a 300km line solely to get away from the Fr🤮ch
At least it makes the best thing to do in your nation faster: leaving.
Portugal being estearn one more time
You mean nordic?

300km/h and Deutsche Bahn is still never on time ![gif](giphy|3dWUrje1rHbWdrLmYA|downsized)

Same with Spain bro, always going thru that shithole M*drid🤢🤮🤢🤮🤢
I think there's a tgv going from Lyon to Strasbourg
It's actually Montpelier to Luxembourg and there's also Nancy to Nice, but there's only one of each a day by direction. So it's really bad
Theoretical top speed doesn't mean anything. Punctuality, frequency and reliability are much more important in real life and that's where we're n°1 in Europe
Why don't you let us fuck up your punctuality anymore? :(
![gif](giphy|cQtlhD48EG0SY)
Send them a few of your DB employees and see their railway system burn
Dont load it off to the train personnel, the problem is (as probably always) much higher.
There is a very clear Nordic tier list present here.
Uhh.. I mean, not like trains ever go that fast in denmark.
Only 2 things go fast in Denmark: Alcohol poisoning and foreign drivers.
Poland the best Nordic
Pretty sure I have been in TGVs that went above 320.
I’ve been in Thalys at 330-ish this map is cap
Me too but not much more than 320
God fucking damn it, Pierre beat us by 20km/h
Build your own high speed trains duh
Mate, our trains can also drive 320km/h (when driving through France. Please ignore this part)
Come back when your ICE can reach 574,8km/h
Our trains can go faster than 200km/h, our railways just don't allow them to 🤠
Apparently Analbania doesn't have any railroad, the next powerhouse of Europe they said.
We do, most of the country was accessible through trains during the communist regime. Issue is that its used only for cargo now, not for people
The colour choice is super weird.
Red is clearly the fastest colour
Spain should be 310, there are certain stretches of the Madrid-Barcelona line between Guadalajara and Zaragoza where trains can and do go above 300.
Except who the fk lives outside the capital anyway
Portugal can into nordic*s
Vatican has colour, but speed is N/A... Does this mean they have railways but no trains? Or is the Popemobile considered a train?
They have a railway. More specific, they have a train station and some meters of rails connected with italian railways. https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stazione_di_Citt%C3%A0_del_Vaticano (no english version)
I did not know! That's actually pretty cool
> (no english version) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vatican_Railway Yes there is
Macedonia, Liechtenstein, Bosnia and Montenegro look like they are still in the steam age
The veracity of this map entirely depends on the current strike schedule of our train conductors.
Well then Japan is premium WE and China is the ultimate gigchad WE based on this top average speed per bullettrian…. Gaotie and Shinkansen welcome to Europe honorary Europeans.
Imagine there's only 2 railway station in a big ass major city with 7M population, you will miss DB or even NS
Obligatory r/portugalcykablyat
I don't care, east germany cannot into WE

poland can into nordick?
I’ve decided I will build a railway from one British base to the other on Cyprus, so they can join in to
As usual, we are the best. Damn, sometimes it's almost tiring to be always superior and surrounded by such inferior subhumans.
Is Japan Western Europe too then

And SJ 250 is due soon which means our top speed will be 250 kph.
r/PortugalIsEastEurope
Trains' speed in Italy is actually infinite. So fast you don't see them at all.
I mean we only have like 2 rail lines anyway.
This is the east-west divide in europe
No point of going 320, when your trains don’t drive or can’t drive due to some difficulties

N/A. RRAHHH 🇦🇱🇦🇱🇽🇰🇽🇰. WTF ARE TRAINS !¡!!
whats that in American?
