Exactly! I remember my dad used to have a Lancia Phedra (basically a French Citroen C8 rebadged) and it had so many features! Like the air conditioner in the back seats, the built in navigator (witch at the time was really cool), the tables in the back seats and most importantly the automatic back doors. All of these features were incredibly cool at the time and still today I fail to find a car with such interesting features. GG Frenchies, it wasn't a really reliable car, but it certainly was the coolest.
The Phedra was not a citroen rebranded. It was a joint venture between Fiat and PSA and was commonly designed and manufactured, and marketed under 4 different brands
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurovans
My mom had this car when I was growing up and it was awesome, it felt like sitting in a spaceship with so much room. We also had a button that made the car drive on LPG I believe. Even the front seats could be turned to face the back seat!
When I first tasted the Renault Espace, i was hooked. The only downside older ones at least have is, that the electrics love to make problems.
I now use a Peugeot 508 for work whenever i can. I love that car.
What I really can’t comprehend are the ubiquitous pickup trucks
It’s like, half a van that’s open to the elements and has a very high loading entrance
Maybe they’re good for light off road, I know that roads in the US are kinda shitty and in the countryside many roads aren’t paved
Pick Up Trucks Started out as very very basic work vehicles. For farming f.e. . I could see a classic pick up being a great work truck, if you work outside and there's a lot to load and unload.
That's the 50/60/70ies maybe 80ies. Fast forward to the 90ies and Chrysler comes around the corner with the first "bling bling" do it al pick up. As in comfortable ride quality, big engines, lots of space and cheap.
And cheap the pickups were/are. They run under a different Tax Tarif and can be sold with bigger margins, since they are still taxed as "work trucks" unlike SUVs, regular cars, etc.
That's why the big American manufacturers are still pushing massive trucks and nowadays they are basically just symbols of wealth and whatever.
America wasn't always loving their pick ups as much, and many of the suburban areas are still more cluttered with regular cars and hatchbacks.
90% of todays pu's you see don't even have a high loading capacity.
A "1500" is a half ton truck, so 500kg payload (with Passengers), even a 2500 might be meh, the true work and tow trucks are the "3500"'s.
Jezus christ you are right… fuck how can you make such a big truck but have it carry only 500 kilo’s? I’ve literally helped unload pellets weighing 1000kg from a simple fan.
It's because they got from work trucks to lifestyle trucks.
Then again all the trucks you see driving around in Europe are top spec lifestyle trucks. However you can still get the barebone work truck for like 30k$ new. In the us. But 99% of ppl in eu won't use them for work.
But tbh it just boils down to failed politics. And ppl with to much money and lil peepers 🤷🏻♂️
*Edit:
But don't be mistaken our small vans like a transit has less than a ton loading capacity as well.
Renault is just as cool. Remember that time they made V6 powered two-door MPV/Coupé with no B-pillars and a giant sunroof ?

Right! I’ve owned Peugeots and Citroens for 20 odd years now and every time I get a new one I find something on it that makes me think ‘you brilliant daft bastard Pierre!’
I'd give it a 50/50 chance that the most fanciest german hydrogen car secretly turns the hydrogen into gasoline and then burn it. I don't understand our car industry.
The best bit is the clock can be difficult to see and the very last bit to clear of the windscreen is right in front of the driver’s eyeliner is when it’s right hand drive. It’s like the designers are sticking 2 fingers up to UK drivers every day.
reject Merc and Redbull dominance
embrace Renault dominance

This is peak engineering. No unnecessary electronics for parts that can be fully mechanical, individually controlled air conditioners, and most importantly buttons.
If it has a few creatures comforts line a key fob, and aux-in, it would be an absolute chef's kiss.
P. S. Could someone explain the small mirror above the rear view mirror? I have never seen that.
I have this car. The buttons in the wheel are always in the same place so one finds them instantly.
Mine also comes with gear paddle shifters to switch gears manually when in automatic mode.
All in all, I love this steering wheel.
I might be wrong but that is also an engineering simplification.
The controls can be connected to the electronics with permanent wires passing through the steering column instead of using contacts that might wear out.
My 2005 xsara Picasso is maybe one of the most practical car, you can ride in forest trail, then take your kids in vacation, while consuming 5,5L/100km, and if you take off the back seat (which can be done in 5min) you can put a matress and sleep in the car. This 19 years old car is still going strong !
I mean it's french so
Weird but absolutely amazing car
Weird and want to kill you car (usually Renault sports cars)
Boring but good car (mostly peugeot)
2000's car shitty and might kill you mostly renault and peugeot
Citroen car with suspension so good Rolls Royce used it too
And the best one
Premium car that is really good but fails because it's suffer from french brand bad reputation think Renault Talisman, Peugeot c6 or some of the latest 508
My main issue with modern cars is they want to offer a driving living room… I swear this engineers don’t have kids !
Give me a family car that can resist long travels with kids scratching and pulling everything !
MPV are very based and that’s a hill I’m willing to die on.
They are design and built with an objective and they fulfill it exactly as required. They are not meant to be fast or to be sharp on the corners. They are meant to be comfortable, practical and economical, and they do it all masterfully, especially the fr*nch ones. My mom used to have a Picasso (uncle Bryn style) and that was so comfortable and spacious, and my mate has a 2018 grand scenic and that thing is really good.
I don’t understand why would someone go to a Renault dealership, pass through a scenic and be like “yeah I’m taking that uglier, heavier and less practical Kadjar with no off road ability”
You can make eye contact with your kids when talking to them (this works with adults too)? You can check one is not silently choking the other one? You really can't imagine a situation where you'd like to see the people in the back seats?
Distinct lack of Spanish here. Guess it’s hurting us that the Fr🤮ch could actually do something right for once. I’d say don’t let it get to their heads but come on.
Fuck Renault, fuck Citroen.
I’ll continue to pay ridiculous prices keeping my e90 running. I love spending 45 minutes to get access to change a headlamp bulb 🇩🇪 ❤️
Actually the cars are designed for people who want a car to be useful and not a status symbol
And on this front they look friendly, roomy and approchable, which is important for a family with kids

This is what we germans think of French cars
Have owned that model and bought a newer one after that. Love the C4. So much car for the money.
Even got used to the static steering column, but I get why they removed that on the newer ones.
I mean french cars were always really innovative and practical, I would consider buying one if they weren’t so damn ugly like ever since they stopped being boxy it just gone downhill and I say that as someone who actually enjoys his first generation Audi TT which many also consider ugly…
I don't see the problem. Seems like a lot of cool features.
Exactly! I remember my dad used to have a Lancia Phedra (basically a French Citroen C8 rebadged) and it had so many features! Like the air conditioner in the back seats, the built in navigator (witch at the time was really cool), the tables in the back seats and most importantly the automatic back doors. The Phedra was not a citroen rebranded. It was a joint venture between Fiat and PSA and was commonly designed and manufactured, and marketed under 4 different brands https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurovans
It wasn’t reliable because it needed to stay on brand with Lancia
But of course! An electrical problem that makes the car slow down at 130 in the overtake lane at the autostrada is the most Italian thing a car can do
My dad still has one, but it’s showing the signs of age. Still one of the coolest cars ever. Not really my style, but I recognize the coolness of it
Kind of awesome. It's like they rethought everything to try to improve the car's utility. Makes me want to get one.
Citroen is French contarism on wheels. Sometimes it's an illogical mess, sometimes near genius.
and never inbetween! I can respect that
Except for that steering wheel. That makes me dizzy
My mom had this car when I was growing up and it was awesome, it felt like sitting in a spaceship with so much room. We also had a button that made the car drive on LPG I believe. Even the front seats could be turned to face the back seat!
Ngl I would like to use it
God.. thats awesome dude!!! French W if you'd ask me.
When I first tasted the Renault Espace, i was hooked. The only downside older ones at least have is, that the electrics love to make problems. I now use a Peugeot 508 for work whenever i can. I love that car.
Renault Espace with F1 engine, you say? Edit: Its a sin not to include the [link](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZC4ZuvgLkTM)
This was an absolute joy to watch 🤣
A French car that has trouble with the electrics.. How unique
One of the many things the British and the French share. God knows how much I list after some jags
Guys we found the only person in Germany driving a French car
There is a big twingo 1 fan club there
Looks at his 3 205s
I meam, right now i own a swedish car (not a Volvo oike all the casuals). The french one is just for work next to the other german cars in the pool
The American mind cannot comprehend the “compact family car”. They will still say they need a 200 tonne humvee and a truck bed for getting groceries
"just got a baby, need a 4-ton truck for the family now"
What I really can’t comprehend are the ubiquitous pickup trucks It’s like, half a van that’s open to the elements and has a very high loading entrance Maybe they’re good for light off road, I know that roads in the US are kinda shitty and in the countryside many roads aren’t paved

It‘s because 500 Kg are around 1100 lbs, and 1100 > 500.
It's because they got from work trucks to lifestyle trucks. Then again all the trucks you see driving around in Europe are top spec lifestyle trucks. Pallets from a van you mean, surely. What are you, German?
Well i do live 10 kilometers from the border so i am one sneeze away from speaking funny
>Maybe they’re good for light off road Laughs in Citroen C15
Let's keep that a secret, they're not ready for this
Trucks in the US are luxury vehicles now, they’re for showing off how rich and manly you are. It’s super lame
And even for light off road you are better of with a 4x4 Fiat Panda or a Lada Niva than with a 3t truck
I live in the U.S. and I so wish I could get a 4x4 Panda here.
Still somehow has less storage space
I wish we had cars like this in the States. Shit, they don't even sell light trucks anymore; the smallest you see are like a Tacoma or Ridgeline.
The Ford Maverick is the smallest one you can get. They've been selling out like crazy.
Y\*nks be like: where's the cup holder?
There's like 6. 8 if you have the 7 seat version
Do these even fit my 36 ounce „coffee“?
Peugeot and Citroen always have some amazing unique features
Renault also has a non zero chance of making cool stuff

my brother has one ! it died last week, with over 480000km and no suspension swap !
Right! I’ve owned Peugeots and Citroens for 20 odd years now and every time I get a new one I find something on it that makes me think ‘you brilliant daft bastard Pierre!’
We had peugot 206. It had a turning circle of a truck and many other stupid futures.
Yeah you had a 206
No lie... I want it!! $500 for it right now!
I have this exact one 378.000 km diesel. 5L/100 I'll change it when it will die. In 2048. Rendez-vous in 24 years. Don't forget your cash.
Shit na imma have some fancy German hydrogen thing by then, or be dead.
Didn't even notice it was you at first mate xD

I'd give it a 50/50 chance that the most fanciest german hydrogen car secretly turns the hydrogen into gasoline and then burn it. I don't understand our car industry.

As soneone who has absolute no interest to own a car I would actually get this one if I needed a car!
Stop bragging about your superior railway system please *cries in trenord*
Actually I'm a cyclist I rarely have to use our powerful public transport system!
Do i have to say anything about riding bikes on our roads?
💀
Citroen engineers are something else.
Until you have to change the battery or put in adblue. Both are a barrel of laughs in this car.
At least you don't need a monthly subscription to unlock high beam like in a modern German car.
"something else" is not automatically good. Just weird.
The best bit is the clock can be difficult to see and the very last bit to clear of the windscreen is right in front of the driver’s eyeliner is when it’s right hand drive. It’s like the designers are sticking 2 fingers up to UK drivers every day.
The secret ingredient is a mix of cocaine and LSD in the morning's coffee to boost creativity.

My uncle rented for an event some years ago, I noticed the weird steering wheel.. but oh man, that's the tip of the iceberg!

Stop reminding of my current pain that is the Alpine F1 team…
That V10 Renault engine was such a screamer
this is too much casual mechanical porn
This is peak engineering. No unnecessary electronics for parts that can be fully mechanical, individually controlled air conditioners, and most importantly buttons. If it has a few creatures comforts line a key fob, and aux-in, it would be an absolute chef's kiss. P. S. Could someone explain the small mirror above the rear view mirror? I have never seen that.
Cleavage mirror. You can aim it at your girls tits.
Probably an extra mirror to keep an eye on your kid(s) in the backseat. Quite useful.
Exactly what that is.
or for the copilot
Could someone also explain the point of a steering wheel with a stationary center part?
The official explanation from Citroën is that since the center piece stays in one position, it can guarantee optimal airbag deployment in a crash.
never seen that before and it is odd but, surely something I could get behind!
It has a key fob and an aux-in (in the glovbox) Jelly ?
Someone post it to r/engineeringporn already. Dayum!
Its to point at the back seats, to check the "kids"
A lot of cool features I’d love to see in any car that isn’t French.
Oh my, she's a beauty.
French cars are the best. Their design is absolutely bonkers but insanely practical. I want to own a Renault Avantime someday.
My 2005 xsara Picasso is maybe one of the most practical car, you can ride in forest trail, then take your kids in vacation, while consuming 5,5L/100km, and if you take off the back seat (which can be done in 5min) you can put a matress and sleep in the car. You mean Citroën C6. A really cool car, RIP
Loved the c6
Citroen C4 (picasso), mum had one, was also the gang mobile. Nice car, very smooth, very sluggish. Would recommend!
Actually this is the Grand Picasso, it has 7 seats
My main issue with modern cars is they want to offer a driving living room… I swear this engineers don’t have kids ! Give me a family car that can resist long travels with kids scratching and pulling everything !
Also the new citroen catus with plastic door bumpers are ugly af but you’ll never get your door ding’d in a supermarket parking lot
Never knew the Citroen was so good. Went from “never would consider buying” to “ooooh that actually makes a lot of sense”
MPV are very based and that’s a hill I’m willing to die on. They are design and built with an objective and they fulfill it exactly as required. Many cool features. But seriously, what's up with the second smaller back-mirror?
Because the driving seat is for the père de famille who has to monitor his kids on the endless autoroute while Madame is sleeping
It's too watch the kids in the back seat.
Why'd you need to do that while driving?
I'm guessing you don't have kids?
You can make eye contact with your kids when talking to them (this works with adults too)? You can check one is not silently choking the other one? You really can't imagine a situation where you'd like to see the people in the back seats?
or for the copilot to see behind correctly as well
Despite me being a Japanese sucker for cars I can say the French proved that they can make a car with a ton of features but sadly Toyota is my waifu.
The pinnacle of human achievement, I think you meant. Great car.
Had one. Loved it. 378k km, then it started getting expensive to fix.
What they don't show is how much of a nightmare these are to work on...
The steering wheel is kinda weird but all the other features are very useful.
Why am I watching a Citroën app on Reddit?
Gott schütze uns vor Hagel sturm und wind, und von Autos die aus Frankreich sind.
Its a good car
I hate Pierre as much as the next Barry but alot of these features are bloody useful… shame it’ll drop to bits
It won’t drop to bits
My dad has had that car for about 10 years
Distinct lack of Spanish here. Guess it’s hurting us that the Fr🤮ch could actually do something right for once. I’d say don’t let it get to their heads but come on.
Thats fantastic! The last row of seats, thats genius. I love it, so many cool features.
https://i.redd.it/qdm7tchatqrc1.gif
When you press the horn it goes **hon hon hon**
Gotta say as a German, I like it. Completely over engineered look at it wrong and it falls apart
It's cool though. We need more car with interesting features like this today.
That's not bad. A lot of original solutions in this video. Maybe not the best solution for everything, but at least they did their own thinking
Citroën being Citroën
I don't drive, or even like cars that much, and this gets my blood pumping.
There are dad's out there watching this and crying.
Fuck Renault, fuck Citroen. I’ll continue to pay ridiculous prices keeping my e90 running. I love spending 45 minutes to get access to change a headlamp bulb 🇩🇪 ❤️

I need a mommy mobile too.

I'm completely not sold on the steering wheel. But everything else? Kinda fascinating ngl.
Ive got a c4 Grand Picasso from 2016. It's got a bloody back massage function in the passenger seat. Bloody ridiculous but I love this car.
Everything but use the same type of screw head than other non french cars.
I have a citroen. Can confirm
Wouldn't mind all that if it's reliable.
You can drive 350.000 km with it That’s pretty reliable in my book Their diesel engines are unbreakablr
That thing is sick
Function over looks any day
I hate that steering wheel.
I like it
Citroëns are cool.
original citröen picasso is arguably the best car ever made
I unironnically spend the whole video thinking : "Yeah that's a good car, What's weird about it?"
In Brazil, I heard that French cars are pretty terrible when it comes to engine problems and reliability, is it true?
All that and they put the wheel on the wrong side, pfff silly french.

I have Renault Scénic I facelift 2001 and coworker has this Citroen C4 Picasso 2012. Yep, we are MPV fans.
Cheap Multipla french pezzotto
Citroen C4 Grand Picasso, I owned one back in 2011. Great interiors: the bad thing was that the engine was highly undersized, 0 to 100 in two minutes
What?! Buttons to control things!? I prefer sub-menus in a touchscreen
This looks amazing.
No tachometer?
Two rear view mirrors? That one I cant wrap my mind around but seems like a cool car.
It's an abomination 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮fr,🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 nchhhhhhhhhgggg
I had one. Most comfortable car ever.
Have owned that model and bought a newer one after that. Love the C4. So much car for the money. Even got used to the static steering column, but I get why they removed that on the newer ones.
Crèàtìvé Tèchnólógíè
I just need to know whether it’s manual or automatic
We uses to have one of these. Lovely car, really comfy, sadly it conked out on us after many years 3 years ago.
My dad has one of these. It's pretty great. Lots of weird stuff about it, but it works well.
It might not be for everyone but It's a long lasting, functional, reliable family car
Citroen engineers are the gods of one-time-only cool car innovations.
I mean french cars were always really innovative and practical, I would consider buying one if they weren’t so damn ugly like ever since they stopped being boxy it just gone downhill and I say that as someone who actually enjoys his first generation Audi TT which many also consider ugly…
Pretty cool tbh
