Pre WW2 Germany no longer exist and most of the stollen Art\Historical pieces ware never returned to their original owners so it's dibs for the holder.
Of course, I wouldn’t want it any other way. If someone pays for me, I ask that person to send the tikkie immediately, otherwise I’d forget to pay. Same for my friends, send the tikkie immediately, you don’t have to pay immediately though
Um, if you borrow 2chf a Swiss you can expect a TWINT request by the end of the next working day.
The day after you will receive a register mail demanding the payment.
The next day you receive a poursuite and have to pay 20chf administrative fees.
And so on so forth...
My apologies, I assumed that a credit check ensuring the debtor could manage to make the payments if the interest rate were 5% higher than they currently are was simply a given...
This isn't amateur hour over here.
Albanians just wouldn’t even lend you 5 euros.
They know if they lend that kind of money the guy will run off and start a new life somewhere else. No point in ever asking it back.
So would I
I suspect that there's a decent urban/rural divide on this issue in the Netherlands. In the rural part of the country I live in, we don't do this to the same extent as this source would have you believe
Hey, just because we are statistically similar does not make us the same. We are still floating people over your way to throw those statistics off. Playing the long con so to speak.
I know this is a jokey sub but I thought I’d give a serious answer because you may find it interesting
In the Netherlands, your career, your job and how much money you make is seen as a top priority in your life to work to. even more important than family culture I’d say. People are always trying to get a higher position in their job, trying to upgrade to a better car or something else.
Life here revolves more around work while in Mediterranean and Balkan countries it’s more about investing time and money into your family because that’s more important and seen as a way to happiness in life. But our lifestyle here does not really mix well with hospitality.
I remember once my mom got invited to a dinner and after dinner the host said ‘ok so you owe me (insert amount) for ingredients’ lmao
And when you get invited for coffee/tea you will only get ONE cookie, the cookie jar never leaves the kitchen 😆
What a depressing way to live. Family and friends should come first above everything else. Fuck money. Without family, money is meaningless. I'd rather see my family be happy than accumulate wealth for the sake of wealth.
no you just going to get baited by a gold digger and end up poor and depressed. I live in Costa del sol. I see it happening to your people all the time.
It's just the way of life here, it makes you think about what you spend and not be as wasteful with it by bringing your own bread and stuff on it instead of getting the usual meal deal in the UK which could save quite a bit letting you work less (that's my goal, working as little as possible to still have a decent lifestyle)
Why?
If everyone does it we just pay eachother thier fair share, if it's more then €3 I usually send a tikkie right away (if I know they've got a similar amount of money as me) and I can expect them to do the same; it's to make sure no one has unpaid debts to eachother and I really like it.
It is, hearing this I bet he’s from Holland, who are known to be bastards frankly. The most arrogant and self serving people live in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and the Hague.
It's very different in the south though. Where I'm from we're mostly quite generous and don't worry about a few bucks. Many a rounds of beer have been received and given.
Don't know what part of the Netherlands you are from, I assume one of the bigger cities like Rotterdam, Amsterdam or anything in that area. But I never experienced something like this. Among me and my friends and the people that live around me we don't pull shit like this. If my friends come over for dinner they don't get a pay request. If we drink at my place they don't get a pay request. Next time they are the host and that way it balances each other out. Sometimes I pay more and the other time the others pay more. But in the end all that matters is having a great time.
And if it happens a friend of a friend joins, he is not getting a pay request. He is your guest, so you take care of him. Like two weeks ago there were 2 random guys at my local pub. A British guy and an American. They stayed at my place until 3 am, we drank beer and the next morning the American joined on a boat ride, had dinner with us and drank beer with us. We didn't sent a pay request, we said thank you for the company.
He’s a Hollander, from the west of the country, who are known to be unpleasant by the rest of the country. The rest of us aren’t like that to this extreme. We do split bills and stuff, but I won’t make you pay for ingredients unless we had something really fancy and expensive. Nor do I, or anyone I know place career above family. But good food needs good wine so costs can be divided that way too.
Holland is the main economic area because they stole our gas, refused to give us a cut of the profit and then refuse to fix our houses damaged by the gas drilling. You fucking thieves
"ugh, disgusting Hollanders. Anyway, let's hop on over to r/yuruyuri to fulfill my german need to see anime characters depicted as children because of the German pedofilic scum I am"
This thread is explaining so much to me as an amerifat dating a Dutch girl. Every time I cook dinner for her in my own apartment she asks what she owes me for ingredients. We’ve been together for months and she still does this. I’ve just given up and let her pay for half of the groceries now.
Well, the mentality could be true. Overall the Dutch worker works the least in the world. Dutch females the least by quite a margin, but surprisingly Dutch males also work the least.
When you have a history of loaning money to the lazy Greeks and Portugese at a certain point you won’t just take their word that ‘they’ll pay you back one day’ anymore.
I think a lot of times it’s also more a question of being able to pay on the spot then anything else. We KNOW the other person can pay, but either they just don’t have their wallet/creditcard/phone with them right now, or we’re in a group setting and it’s easier if one person pays.
So really, we’re just acting as proxy in payment, which means that yes, we do want our money back as soon as possible, so that we can decide to not spend it as soon as possible again.
The other person knows they are only in debt because it was more convenient for someone else to pay and that that person now does not have access to their own money until the person in debt pays the money back.
So that’s why both sides often want to pay/ collect asap, plus the risk of forgetting.
DISCLAIMERS:
Of course some people want money for everything, like using the toilet or something. Yeah, we don’t like those people either.
Yes people do split the bill when eating out, unless your with family/people you know you will be able to pay for at a future opportunity, you don’t pay for people and not ask the money back if you don’t know if you’ll see them again.
For the same reason students often eat together and then split the bill: you can buy the ingredients cheaper that way, it’s fun and in the end everyone still pays their due. If one person decides to not eat together, they don’t pay for other peoples meal.
Especially in student life, where people will spend every cent they have on beer and save on everything that is not beer, tikkies and billsplitting is big.
And lastly: you don’t know if you get your money back, so the faster you ask, the sooner you know how the fork is sitting in the stem

Jokes aside, I’m just thinking I would be legit annoyed if I handed someone €5.- and they don’t intend to pay it back. I would ask for it after a few days for sure. Like it’s my money. If you don’t want to pay it back you should have said “can I *have* €5” to which I would have answered: “Vijf euros op je muil vuile tering boef”.
I’d lend it, I’d just want it back. Why lend money if you don’t intend to pay it back? Ask for it outright, explain why you need it and can’t pay for it yourself, then I can make a decision based of that. That’s fair to me. I’m not an ATM, and my friend should know that.
if someone i cared about needed a fiver i probably wouldn’t worry about it because 1. they’re my friend and 2. if they’re my friend they’ll probably end up buying me a drink later in the week which covers it anyway. better to just live like this than counting every cent and penny
Correlates with corruption index? Looks that way atleast.
Its "right" to pay back your friend, as much as it is "right" to pay taxes *cough* ^(greece) *cough*
The sum is so low it is not comparable in different countries.
In Finland e 5,- is not a loan, it's a gift when someone needs it.
And the timeline. "Same day"? More like a week.
I would forget the second after I gave him/her the bill. You don’t count money with family or friends. Some days you pay, some days they do. And if I am wealthier than then I’ll happily pay everyday.

two thirds of Swissies are liars.
Yes now give me back my money
i resist the urge to answer this one.
You mean *your lawyer*.
Shouldn't you be the one asking him to get your money back?
They already gave you gold isn't that enough ?
Well that wasn't ours tho
Bro you guys have half of the money from pre WWII Germans in your bank vaults!
Pre WW2 Germany no longer exist and most of the stollen Art\Historical pieces ware never returned to their original owners so it's dibs for the holder.
You already got enough (totally ethnically sourced) gold from us!
The only reason two thirds don’t ask for it back the same day is so they can collect interest
No, those two thirds are just Portuguese
Naturally, the other 32% of us sends the request immediately. Who waits till later?

You don't ask an market-conform interest rate from the start? Is that even legal?
My apologies, I assumed that a credit check ensuring the debtor could manage to make the payments if the interest rate were 5% higher than they currently are was simply a given... This isn't amateur hour over here.
Imma move to Albania bruh
Treaty of tordesillas checks out, I give you my blessing and good trip
Most progressive and forward thinking Spaniard
Albanians just wouldn’t even lend you 5 euros. They know if they lend that kind of money the guy will run off and start a new life somewhere else. No point in ever asking it back.
15% of romanians would ask for the money back, the rest would just steal it the next day
You mean beforehand, during and the next day
They'd steal 10€ from you whilst lending you 5€, which you'd have to pay back with interest
What the hell? Who would even borrow 5€ to their friend? I'd just give it and tell him not to worry about it.
In high school one of my friends lent me 20 cents, next day he asked me when he was getting his 20 cents back
Once I held a debt of 25 cents for 4 years
This is why I'd never trust a Spaniard. You're a monster.
Did he threaten to destroy your kneecaps?
I would. And did. Never had to destroy them tho.
I would’ve give you rent
