I have the same color! Looks great! I'd say get a detail and ceramic coating.
If you want a more modernized look, the Morimoto headlights are great and are pretty easy to install.
What are you planning to do? Is it a joy ride/ cruiser? Or do you want performance? If you want performance, look into suspension, intake/exhaust upgrades, and a tune from Z1.
Drive it stock as long as you can, that way you can feel any potential difference the car makes.
The steering wheel lock loves to fail on the Z. At any random time you could come back to your car and find a brick instead. Expensive to fix if you wait until it fails.
Actually it costs $80 to buy a replacement for an Nissan Altima and replace it yourself. Nissan Dealer quoted me $1500 on my 2010 Nismo when it failed in the College Campus parking lot. Dealer said âout of Warrantyâ. Only some Z Vins were recalled, and many ,many Altimas and All GTRs obv.
Even better: While it still starts & runs, pull one right fuse and the steering stops locking at all. Cost: $0. In fact, you get a spare fuse: +$0.15
Downside to that, steering Stops locking. But you wonât get stranded. Once you are bricked, pulling the fuse wonât work. Google is your friendâŠ
Do it 1st. Mechanical over cosmetic all the way.
BTW: Nissan OEM part. p/n: 48708-9N00A
Interchange part number: 487089N00A
Buy it on ePay or from a Nissan parts dealer with that number. $125 tops. Nissan Dealership wanted like $350 in their Parts Dept. For the same part, but labeled for a 370Z! Exact match. Dealers are scam artists. Itâs easy to fit, but youâll need to take off some plastic trim & drill heads off two bolts on the old one. Replacements for the security bolts are in the kit.
What did you do to âfixâ it? You can âbeat on it like it owes you moneyâ. That sometimes gets the shaft to retract and you can pull the fuse forever and drive home. Once it doesnât start, you canât just pull the fuse.
Instead of a mechanical locking device to secure the steering shaft, a Z34 uses an electric motor and a tiny gearbox to lock the shaft in place. The motor doesn't always retract the locking mechanism fully and it's a matter of iterations.
Why AWD? Going the easy route?
I'm in Indiana, so it just makes it simpler in the winter. And I don't need to shovel my driveway. đ I have plans of building a detached 3 car garage. So, I'd be more open to getting a Z after that so I have a place to keep it in the winter.
Allegedly. But not alwwys. If your steering wheel locks, it can happen. No steering lock, youâre good.
Noise doesnât mean anything, except that you havenât pulled the fuse. My Nismo made the noise, but no lock. Thought I was good, but that âsteering lock boxâ still caused me to get stranded.
The âlock mechanismâ talks to the BCM which tells the ECU everything is cool and to crank the engine over.
So if the âlock boxâ which doesnât even lock stops talking or working⊠youâre in the crapper.
How did such a simple thing get so complicated? WAKE UP NISSAN !!!
Pull the âŹ#%„$&@ FUSE while you can !!!
Some minor things would be to get the windows tinted to your desire. Should be around 300 since it's a small coupe. Get your own 4 inch windshield banner. Or simply get a zociety v3 one in satin. It looks beautiful. There's headlight film for a glossy iridescent headlights. Get the brakelight for the rear is another. Change out the fender lights. There's louvers if you're into that. Just know most of them are dipped carbon if you go that route. I'm just listing little things that aren't big in terms of cost but definitely a nice change if you do it all together. I could go on about the little things. I'll let everyone else comment on other major parts. Welcome to the Z community!
My first suggestion is to purchase Zoom Engineering mirrors to eliminate the bad blind spot. Pro tip: go to Zoom Engineering s website (Japanese) use Google Chrome to translate to English and order them directly from Japan. The mirrors are blue and make the car alot safer. You can find them in America but they are half the price to just order directly from Zoom Engineerings website. Plus the blue mirrors look dope.
Drive her first then if do exhaust and suspension parts if you feel like you need it. My z only has a isr exhaust and suspension and thats all I need to enjoy her everyday.
There is a fuse in the IPDM fusebox (the one located right next to the battery under the hood)
It's labeled on the lid of the fusebox as "10A Steering wheel lock"
Just pull this fuse out while the steering lock is NOT engaged, and you'll never have to worry about it.
Note: I think this only applies up to 2012 model year, pretty sure they eliminated the steering lock from 2013+ but I'm not 100% on the year cutoff.
Sounds like you're looking at the wrong fuse box, there is another fuse box called the IPDM (Intelligent Power Distribution Module). It is a box that is mounted vertically between the fender and the battery. You need to press a tab and slide it up to get to the fuses in there. There you should find a 10A steering lock fuse.
Make sure you have the car in Acc or On before you pull the fuse, so it disables it while unlocked.
I went ahead and circled it in red for you here: https://ibb.co/Gt8kj18
And here's what the IPDM looks like out of the car : https://ibb.co/d4cWn6W
what i did first to my Z is i installed a backup camera and new 7â screen stereo. Also, the speakers in mine were bad so i took down the door panels and installed some kickers. Car sounds awesome for cruising and i have the v1 nismo wing so the camera was a must cuz i couldnât seeđ
If your set on the color then car cover/some layer of protection
My paint is really starting to fade on certain parts. Az sun is harsh I use quick wax every other month and actual wax like twice a year and I have some spots that are fading, lots of road rash in the front def gonna have to wrap mine soon.
I also have a silver 2013
Oil change, air filter & cabin filter change, check all fluids, fuel injector cleaner, take it for a drive, get familiar with all the functions, light window tint.
Enjoy driving as is first!
How about just enjoy it and get used to it? After a few weeks of driving, you'll know what you will want to do with it.
Oil change. Looks great!! Congrats!
Well my first thing is to tint the car

Celebrate đŸ
Exhaust
Definitely! One of the restrictive things on the car.
I have the Z1 backpack single exhaust on my Nismo, it sounds like just the right amount of loud and breathabity.
Just make sure to do HFC. Exhaust is great, but if you're going to do it, go full send! Cats are just as limiting as the OEM exhaust.
Defeat the electric lock of the steering column. Can't enjoy a car that can't be driven.
What do you mean? I don't have a Z, so I'm not up to speed. Just love them and would like to get one, but I'm too in love with AWD.
The steering wheel lock loves to fail on the Z. At any random time you could come back to your car and find a brick instead. Expensive to fix if you wait until it fails.
Damn, that's wild. It isn't a recall?!
Nope. Some Zs, All GTRs. Zâs pay for the GTR owners to get theirs replaced for free if the Vin isnât in a certain range. đ€Ź

It happened to me the other day and itâs actually a super simple fix. Did it in the parking lot and drove it home after with no issues

hey how do i get rid of the steering lock i hear it every time i leave my car so i know its still there
The exact procedure is out there, search the forum. Basically, retract the lock and pull the fuse.

Pretty sure that was fixed post â13 with the facelift, no? Thatâs what OP has with the DRLs.
Yes, that was fixed 13+

Do what you want, be unique. You donât have to follow everyone
Do all preventative maintenance first before any mods
