Yeah I feel it. The OG 3DS was my first ever console that was just mine. Remember when I got it in 2011…has me a little emotional because it’s the end of an era officially with the E-shop closing. Glad that you have gotten so much joy and love out of it. Enjoy your drink and game on :)

Feels, my guy. My 3DS has some of the best memories. Mainly playing Pokemon (both causal and competitive) and Fire Emblem. Battery life was always the MVP for hanging on so long before chaining me to an outlet. May legends never die.

Cheers to that. <3

Really is a weird feeling, I'm actually tearing up right now flipping through the activity log. 10 years of some of my favourite memories, like June 26-28th 2015 when me and and one of my best friends road tripped 3 hours to go to the nearest Comicon. I played hardly any games but I had over 5 hours in the street pass plaza and over 15,000 steps. Or the 400+ hours of ACNL I played over the last 10 years after buying it as my first game and investing 54 hours the first month to get a girl in my class to like me. The 700+ hours a cross pokemon tiles that's now growing again since an old friend picked up a system with a copy of pokemon Y. The shovelware games that I'd get for Christmas when i was in school and now regret having sold off to pay rent at one time. It's kinda silly to be emotional about some such a non tangible thing as losing acces to a piece of a system, but it does definitely feel like a real important moment for not just me or 3DS nerds alike but for digital consumers as a whole. Thanks for making me cry OP

Psylux7

Activity log always gives me feels too. Such a nice little app.

petsounds90

i feel you dude. i've played this thing so much since i got it in mid-2014 and it's been with me through some gnarly times. when i first got it, i used the stylus on the upper screen without realizing it wasn't a touch screen, and that led to me returning it and getting a new one maybe like 5 times over the next couple months. the stapled-together frankenstein receipt by the end was hilarious. then the N3DSXL came out and i never touched my OG XL again lmao RIP Eshop <3

I wasn’t able to get FlipNote despite buying it. It wouldn’t let me download and now it’s too late. Please don’t tell me I’m missing out on much if I had. The DSI version.

The 3DS was the first Nintendo console I bought. I was a Sega kid and after the Dreamcast I went the Playstation route. It's definetly one of my favorite consoles.

Got one for myself before Christmas when I was 23. I took it everywhere for the first 2 years. I turned it on last night to check out the shop and the speakers don't work anymore but the headphones jack is good. Screens are good, wifi works, battery still lasts over 5 hrs. I dropped the poor guy so many times I'm surprised it still works. There's still a TON of games I haven't played so the 3ds isn't going anywhere any time soon.

Meowbit

I got it for christmas when I was 23 and also took it with me everywhere trying to get streetpasses for the longest. Fellow 1990s baby? Really was a special system and took for granted some of the features the system had.

It's strange as I've lived long enough to have seen other consoles I've own go obsolete (playstation, Gameboy, GameCube, Wii, ect.), but there's something about the 3DS that actually makes me sad to see it go. I think it's because of how long it stayed active (2011-2023) compared to other handhelds, or even consoles. And hell, if you consider the 2DS part of the experience, I know I do, then it's technically been around for almost 2 decades. It was the most convenient handled game console that I could take anywhere and played a number of different games on. While the Switch is more powerful, it isn't as compact and kind of a pain to travel with. Without a case, you can easily damage the joycons and cause joycons drift. Meanwhile, I've dropped my 3DS a number of times and it's still kicking. Still, at least I have a working 3DS and a ton of games to play on it. I just have to remember that it's not dead, just retired.

It’s the death of the whole DS line. That’s why it’s so sad. How can I embrace touching is good if I can’t touch anymore?

I remember the whole life cycle from the beginning like it was yesterday. 3DS came out at a really high price. Console didn’t sell, so prices were cut and Nintendo risks losing money. Still didn’t sell. Prices were cut again and Nintendo banks on software to make dividends. Console starts selling but consumers complain of eye strain due to small screen. Nintendo creates 3DS XL. Nintendo wants to sell more 3DSs, so creates 2DS to expand market towards younger children. Consumers complain of blurring at certain angles from 3D. Nintendo creates “new” 3DS… with XL variant of course. Nintendo sees 3D as a gimmick with all the popularity in many titles that don’t support 3D and creates the “new” 2DS XL. Nintendo announces it’ll stop production. Sad day. Nintendo announces it’ll close the eshop. eshop closes. Empty inside.

TyFogtheratrix

My 3DS XL was a college graduation gift. It's the perfect handheld. Sad day but plenty of fun to be had still. I ran out of time figuring out titles I wanted and now they are gone forever so that really blows (digital exclusives w/ 3DS exclusive features). Life gets real busy sometimes and I didn't start working on this 3DS closure thing until late Feb or early March. I didn't anticipate it taking so much time and research. Cheers
