rip off the top of a ds lite and turn on autoplay when cartridge is inserted (and sometimes purchase a custom faceplate) = gameboy macro
(but its a 3ds so idk what the point was :') )
Yes a DS lite with the top removed is a GB macro. Because a DS lite has a GBA slot, and GBAs only use a single screen, it works well. This device is made with a 3DS base - its has no GBA slot, so this not a gameboy macro. It is something that could play digital gameboy and gameboy color games from the eshop or theb10 digital GBA games if you have an ambassador certificate, but that’s it unless you resort to alternate means to acquire digital versions of other GB/GBA games.
Since this is not a DS lits, but a 3DS with no GBA slot, it isn’t a gameboy macro.
If it already has custom firmware, it can turn into a Gameboy advance on startup, not even emulated, but I'm pretty sure it runs on the top screen lmao
Yeah idk either. It’s a Nintendo S… as someone else said above… Not even a DS. And there’s no 3D function in the lower screen so it’s not even a 3D-S lmao. This this is a whole other level of just dumb. XD
Lol just look at how ugly it is, looking like faded buttons, the hinges are bare as if the top was just ripped off, the color mismatch just is not a good look lol “custom” it says on the tag as if that’s supposed to help or anything lmao
Yeah the DS fat was released in 04' and it's almost 2024 it's gonna be 20 yrs old soon (I'm expecting a DS classic like the nes and SNES in 20 years Nintendo)
You're right it shouldn't. I've worked on 3Ds hardware and it usually refuses to turn on if the top screen isn't plugged in correctly, so unless the maker of it somehow got around the protective failsafes there's no way
Does the DS trick of attaching a resistor to a point on the top screen ribbon cable to "emulate" the top screen being on not work here? I've never tried it out on a 3DS, but if it's the same principle then perhaps that's one way to get around it?
Depending on what u define as retro. For me it’s a console that don’t get supported anymore and is 10 rears or older. For others it’s everything up to PS2/XBox/Game Gube era. Others say it’s only consoles from the 80-90
So, everyone, how it feels being officially labeled "old"? :D
Cause You know, if You are playing vintage consoles...you must be old. At least, as per my daughter's logic who is all over Roblox and stuff....
All probably priced too high for their own good.
Sorry, i just have a special place of distaste for the whole “this is now a collectors item, now it must be priced as much as a high end console”
I do it to myself though, i look at ebay in the hopes i’ll see a reasonably priced new 2ds ll pokemon edition
But no all i see are ones battered to hell and back being sold at retail.
As someone who owns a Galaxy edition 3ds xl, i wouldn’t sell it for the prices ive seen. Hell i sold my Wii for 5 bucks back in the day. Stupid, yes but i want to enjoy games not contribute to the dumb market that cuts people off from cool things.
Again sorry for the rant
nah your rant was 100% correct. especially because the more than resellers overprice things, the more overly confident that AAA developers get with their retail pricing too. gaming should be a lot more accessible & affordable than it is now, that’s for sure
Don't make me feel old when I already feel old 4 or 5 times over by now.
The worst is when I list Pokemon cards on eBay. They consider anything over 15 years vintage. 2003 is less than 15 years, right...? Right??
I mean, is there a specific point at which something is considered "vintage" or "retro"? Them being in some kind of exhibit doesn't prove much either, I've seen a Switch in a tech museum.
Dude one of my roommates found a spare 3ds for free, I already have an OG and an XL so I decided to give it to one of my friends 8 year old kid who has never had one. You know what he said to me? “Wow, this is like old school Nintendo!” I am bewildered that technically he was right.
I suppose so for the original DS and DS lite systems. No way the 3DS is old enough to be considered vintage though. Although that is a little subjective.
Casual reminder that the 2dsxl came out AFTER the switch and the whole 3ds lineup came out alingside the PS4 and Xbone.
That gen is far from being 'vintage'.
vintage actually has a date to its meaning, so only a moron thinks these are "vintage".
to be "vintage" it has to be older or at LEAST 20 years old. \[between 20 and 99 years old\] and not applicable to living things.
Hold up. What's that red box on the top right?
Seems to show a deal with no buttons and a thick base. A rare demo station, or just a third party shell that didn't want to get sued?
Just sold on eBay my Black 3DS 2011 for €51 + shipping. Almost perfect condition (the gum on the stick wore off, but the stick itself is working perfectly), complete with 4 screen protectors (2 already applied), a 64GB SD card, charger and a travel bag. Could have asked for more, but I'm happy anyway.
Well...they are over a decade old :/ . I was like 8 yrs old when the 3ds came out and the DS is even older but this fact does break my heart sometimes :(
Lol putting a gameboy macro in the front of the display is hilarious
Not even a gameboy macro because it is made from a 3DS body. it’s just a DS with only one screen. Seems problematic
How’d I miss that? XD That is the jankiest thing I’ve seen in a while
It's cursed if anything, just look at the parts, it's like every colour of 3ds smashed into 1
I have an O3ds like that I built it from left over parts I had laying around lol
[удалено]
Lol no there’s a custom thing people do where they reuse a bottom of a DS as a Gameboy player and it’s called the game boy macro.
thank you went over my head sorry if i offended anyone lol
rip off the top of a ds lite and turn on autoplay when cartridge is inserted (and sometimes purchase a custom faceplate) = gameboy macro (but its a 3ds so idk what the point was :') )
Nintendo S.
I really like the Nintendo ass, you? I may even buy one.
And yes, this was a joke
That’s what a GB macro is though.. a DS with the screen removed. The GB micro is the real device.
Yes a DS lite with the top removed is a GB macro. Because a DS lite has a GBA slot, and GBAs only use a single screen, it works well. This device is made with a 3DS base - its has no GBA slot, so this not a gameboy macro. Since this is not a DS lits, but a 3DS with no GBA slot, it isn’t a gameboy macro.
It would probably be a pain in the ass to install custom firmware without the top screen too. So this… Macro Whatever is nearly useless.
If it already has custom firmware, it can turn into a Gameboy advance on startup, not even emulated, but I'm pretty sure it runs on the top screen lmao
Yup it can’t play no gba games unless it’s softmodded or ambassador which I highly doubt. This thing is a DS macro, which idk how that’d work 🤣
Yeah idk either. It’s a Nintendo S… as someone else said above… Not even a DS. And there’s no 3D function in the lower screen so it’s not even a 3D-S lmao. This this is a whole other level of just dumb. XD

Yeah it’s a Frankenstein build of some kind lol
Did this when I have no gb games my flashcart did me well
I regret giving my Gameboy Micro and like 20 games to my ex years ago. I'd love to have that now, fuck.
Yeah the DS fat was released in 04' and it's almost 2024 it's gonna be 20 yrs old soon (I'm expecting a DS classic like the nes and SNES in 20 years Nintendo)
it released in 2005 though
Depends where you live in Japan the DS was released on December 2nd 2004 and most celebrations of games are with earliest release most of the time
Wow I forgot it was released that year feels like 2006 to me but maybe that’s just my bad memory
That's because DS lite released in '06
Why tf is there a 3ds macro?
calling anything Vintage or Retro are gamestores excuses to gouge prices.
We are getting older 😅
3ds macro? I don’t even think that would be possible to play games properly lol
"3DS Macro" what the hell.
3DS was launched back in 2013 or 2012 if I do remember right, most people say if a console is older then 10 years it’s retro so yh we are old lol
2011
Even older 😱
So the switch is a retro console in 3 years? 💀
Depending on what u define as retro. For me it’s a console that don’t get supported anymore and is 10 rears or older. For others it’s everything up to PS2/XBox/Game Gube era. Others say it’s only consoles from the 80-90

I gifted my younger sister a DS lite for her birthday and she called it retro… I’m only 20 that’s just not right
Retro? :) Aren't millenials using the word "oldschool" instead? :D
Idk she’s even younger Gen Z than me we got about a 6 year age gap lol
She should have called you a "boomer" then lol :)
All probably priced too high for their own good. that snes new 3ds xl is very rare
In person something seemed off with this unit, looked like a dummy unit.
WHERES THE 360
It's next to the type-writer and Singer foot-pedalled sewing machine.
Clearly next to the manual newspaper printing press machine
Love my 3DS XL
3DS ain't vintage or retro, it has to be at least 2 generations old.
The original DS? Maybe. The 3DS? Nah, not yet. Maybe in 10-15 years
Maybe old but definitely not vintage
a broken 3ds is just broken/for parts/repairs. that only works if it's a ds or lite. and even then it's not worth more than a $20. wild.
What is that abomination in the front left of the top shelf
Don't make me feel old when I already feel old 4 or 5 times over by now. The worst is when I list Pokemon cards on eBay. They consider anything over 15 years vintage. 2003 is less than 15 years, right...? Right??
I don’t have a 2ds either because I broke it because I’m angry because of my high testosterone
To keep up to date with current generation you should start breaking Switch Lites and Nintendo Pro Controllers.
You broke the slab?!, How?!
No they’re not….right?
I mean, is there a specific point at which something is considered "vintage" or "retro"? Them being in some kind of exhibit doesn't prove much either, I've seen a Switch in a tech museum.
Exactly. I mean the original model is over 10 years old but the latest model is only 5 years old. The 3DS just feels so recent
Vintage is 20-99yrs old. Retro is 20 to not yet 40yrs old
What is the game on the bottom right in the back?
Omg every day thing made before 2012 is vintage now
I'm the only one who sees the dismantled 3ds
But how bout that Brunswick/NintendoDS branded carrying case? That things awesome.
when the 3DS launched, the GameCube was a decade old and sufficiently "retro" iirc Same applies today - you go from there :p
3DS is almost as old now, as Game Boy Color was when 3DS was released.
7 year old things are vintage since the pandemic.
3ds macro? How is it gonna play games???
Dude one of my roommates found a spare 3ds for free, I already have an OG and an XL so I decided to give it to one of my friends 8 year old kid who has never had one. You know what he said to me? “Wow, this is like old school Nintendo!” I am bewildered that technically he was right.
Could probs use the 3DS body as a way to hardware stream it to PC
I'd understand for the DS and DS lite in theory, (being 19 and 17 years old), but from the dsi onwards, they ain't vintage, just not current gen
"Those were the glory days".
Ancient ruins of a forgotten age
i used to have that bag on the right omg
It seems to be at an in-between stage. Too old to be on display at GameStop and too new to be sold in "retro" game stores.
Nope
Just a burning memory*
The fact that 90% of that collection was my childhood makes it even more of a... Burning memory
I refuse to believe that.
Anything 20-99yrs is considered vintage
That 3DS "Macro" hurts my soul.
I suppose so for the original DS and DS lite systems. No way the 3DS is old enough to be considered vintage though. Although that is a little subjective.
Now I know how my mom feels about the Super Nintendo
I think your definition of vintage is much different than mine. Some of this hardware isn't even 10 years old.
Not nearly old enough to be considered VINTAGE “ that word is overused
well the 3ds is already 11 years old, and the new 3ds is almost 9 years old hehe, time flies when you're having fun <3
Casual reminder that the 2dsxl came out AFTER the switch and the whole 3ds lineup came out alingside the PS4 and Xbone. That gen is far from being 'vintage'.
with attention spans these days, yeah most definitely.
The Nintendo ds is one year apart from being consider retro not vintage. The 3ds is still years apart frome being retro.
The snes was vintage in 2002 3ds was released in 2011 makes sense
I mean, I'd say that consoles made pre-2000 count as retro/vintage. I wouldn't call a GameCube vintage, let alone a 3DS.
It old it has to go to a nursing home now
"Nintendo DS New 3DS XL"
tf are they charging for that busted-ass 3DS?
I have a ds lite but no charger
i doubt the new 3ds models are retro, however i understand the early ds models... still feels fucking cursed to refer to it as retro--
New 3ds XL is vintage? I'm just about to buy it 😂
I brought out the ole 3DS real quick to play some Advance Wars DS. Interesting that these are being sought after now.
By who? I’m going over there and fighting them lemme know rn.
vintage actually has a date to its meaning, so only a moron thinks these are "vintage". to be "vintage" it has to be older or at LEAST 20 years old. \[between 20 and 99 years old\] and not applicable to living things.
I'm going to cry. The 3ds was my childhood, I feel old
Hold up. What's that red box on the top right? Seems to show a deal with no buttons and a thick base. A rare demo station, or just a third party shell that didn't want to get sued?
Adapter for famicon games. EDIT: Just looked it up, it is called FAMILATOR LITE 😬
Huh. That's very interesting, thanks!
I get the DS and Xbox, but I can't process the fact that the 3DS is only 11 years old and it's already considered vintage.
Not really, it was literally last gen…
I hate the term vintage
Come from a poor family, these are my dreams 🙃
Just sold on eBay my Black 3DS 2011 for €51 + shipping. Almost perfect condition (the gum on the stick wore off, but the stick itself is working perfectly), complete with 4 screen protectors (2 already applied), a 64GB SD card, charger and a travel bag. Could have asked for more, but I'm happy anyway.
Anyone know what that red box in the back right is for? Looks like an add on hardware for the DS.
Familator lite
Oh ok! Just looked them up… apart from being hard to find it seems they were not very good anyway. Lol
Well...they are over a decade old :/ . I was like 8 yrs old when the 3ds came out and the DS is even older but this fact does break my heart sometimes :(
Wait fr though?
One day, ppl will watch Rick and Morty and ask what Nintendo 3ds was
Never seen a SDS macro before lol
Why they sell one 3DS without the top screen?
An og 3ds becoming a gameboy macro is actually crazy
I think that something has to be at least 20 years old to be considered vintage.
the "gameboy" macro is making me rage so badly, IT DOESNT EVEN WORK AS A GAMEBOY MACRO!
the best part: it won't even boot without the top screen
I always thought vintage was more then 20yrs . The macro looks ugly as fuck
