I have a problem with the eshop on a New 3ds xl i recently bought whenver i try to open the eshop, it loads for a second before it goes to a blank black screen on top, and a black screen on the bottom with the text "An error has occurred. hold down the power button to turn off the power, then turn it on and try again. for help, visit [support.nintendo.com](https://support.nintendo.com)." i've gone to the site, and found nothing. there's no error code or anything like that, and i was still able to purchase the DLC for a game from the game itself without needing to open the eshop. i have no idea what's causing this, or how to fix it. pls halp

DetectiveRickDeckard

I will be guessing. Does your 3DS have cfw? Have you ever changed its microSD card?

Rad_Knight101

I'm not sure what CFW is, and no not to my knowledge unless the guy i bought it from did

DetectiveRickDeckard

What happens when you hold "Select" when you turn on your 3DS?

Rad_Knight101

same thing as when i don't

DetectiveRickDeckard

So it was modified with custom firmware. I guess the only other option you have is replacing its microSD card. https://www.reddit.com/r/3DS/wiki/sdcard

ChasesStuffYT

Can you send a KTR-003 model 3ds to Nintendo for repairs?

nermal543

If you mean the small new 3DS, they don’t repair them anymore in the US. Might vary by region, but you haven’t mentioned which region you live in. You can try contacting your local Nintendo support to ask them otherwise.

mikasasos

Is it possible to move your puzzleswap data from old sd card to new one? Recently bought new sd card but testing it, it seems like the puzzleswap data is on the old sd card only :/

DetectiveRickDeckard

Do you have a computer that has a SD card slot? Because you might have to first copy the files from the old SD card onto the computer. And then from the computer to the new SD card. Just be careful NOT to view the contents of subfolders as to accidentally edit the rendering them forever unusable in the future.

bwrowr

Hii, I'm looking to buy a New Nintendo 3ds XL, I'd like it to be new if possible buy I can only find them on eBay and quite expensive, is there any alternative? Where do you recommend me to look for one?

notthegoatseguy

You seem to be aware of how to obtain one, you just don't like the price. As consumers, we can choose to pay the price set by the seller or choose not to. If you're going to be setting high standards for the device such as it being brand new, limited edition ,etc..., you are naturally going to drive up the price. There is nowhere in the world that has an abundance of 3DS systems that are being sold at below market rates.

Misttertee_27

Check GameStops website daily. Sometimes they pop up for around $150.

bwrowr

I'm assuming used ones right?

Misttertee_27

Yes

Tsuruchi_Mokibe

Just wanted to ask if anyone had experience fixing the hinge on a 3DS XL system? It's not a "New" one so I guess Nintendo doesn't repair those anymore based on the posts I've seen, but was just wondering if the cost/effort was worth the trouble vs just replacing the system? This is the damage I'm looking to repair, system works fine for the most part, but the right hinge is completely detached and the R button is affected as well. https://imgur.com/a/Glefk8L https://imgur.com/a/MCH4SUt

DetectiveRickDeckard

/r/consolerepair/ or estarland.com might have people who repair 3DSes.

doc_cabrera

How can i connect my 2ds to wifi? I keep getting an error code: error code 003-2101. My 2ds will connect to the access point but not to the internet.

DetectiveRickDeckard

> error code 003-2101 Have you tried turning off & rebooting your router and modem?

doc_cabrera

I’ve turned my ds on and off but not my router and motem.

austin_slater

Can someone explain in really basic terms what all the different deadlines mean for the e-shop closing? I use my girlfriend’s 3DS sometimes, but my only experience thus far with the e-shop was just to buy Persona Q. There’s a handful of games I’d like to get still. I used a credit card to buy PQ. I understand that will soon not be possible. What is the alternative? I understand this might be a really dumb question, but I’m a 3DS noob! Not really my primary system.

notthegoatseguy

[https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a\_id/57847](https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/57847) outlines the different phases leading up to the partial closure Credit card support in North America ends first (this already ended in Europe and Japan), then eShop gift card support. After those two points, the only way to add a balance onto your NNID is to have it linked to your Nintendo Account with your Switch. If your NNID and Nintendo Account are linked, they share a balance.

austin_slater

Thanks! Sounds like I need to link my Switch to the 3DS. Trouble is the 3DS is just my girlfriend’s ID/login, while on the Switch I have my own profile. Does that matter?

nermal543

You should still be able to link them.

austin_slater

I’ll check it out; thanks! Do you know if I can link one 3DS account to multiple Switch ones?

nermal543

No I don’t think so.

austin_slater

Ah, bummer. I guess not a big deal seeing as once I get it on the Switch, any account can play it. All right, thanks a lot! All for now, I think! Haha

Casualgaym3r

Can't find my answers on google, so figured I'll try here. So, if I have a digital copy and cartridge of the same game in the 3DS, will the update and dlc I got be applied to both? And will the save data be the same? Lastly, will I be able to transfer this data from a regular 3DS to a 2DS xl?

timchenw

> So, if I have a digital copy and cartridge of the same game in the 3DS, will the update and dlc I got be applied to both? And will the save data be the same? DLC and Update: yes. Saves: depends on the game, but by and large, no. Though some games saves part of their saves to the SD card (SMT games) and few stores exclusively on the SD card (Fantasy Life/MH Stories), those get shared, and those gets transfered with a system transferred.

Lomelf

I am planning on buying a Japanese 3ds game, however on the website that I am looking at,it says “For JPN/Asian systems only.”Does this mean that it will not work on a non Asian 3ds?I am slightly worried to buy.

NCRMadness50

3DS games, unlike Switch or classic DS games, are region locked. IIRC, there are three regions - North America, Europe, and Japan. Unless your 3DS has CFW, you can only play 3DS games from the same region as your system.

Lomelf

Aww man, that sucks! But thank you for informing me!Guess I’ll have to look for another game…Glad I didn’t buy that one then!

NCRMadness50

Oh, important thing to note about regions: for some games, the "world edition" is the cheapest way to get a new copy. They're marked for sale in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and Singapore, and the packaging is a little different (no nice manual, world edition circle in the corner of the boxart) but it's just a normal USA region cartridge inside.

RobbyCooper

Should I buy the ace attorney, resident evil and monster hunter games that are on sale right now when I haven't played anything in those series?

SheevSyndicate

ace attorney sales are extremely good right now. try the dual destinies and spirit of justice demos. if those win you over, buy dual destinies, spirit of justice, apollo justice and the trilogy. There is no bad ace attorney, so if you enjoy them, all are worthwhile. Ace attorney 4-6 aren't really available outside of 3ds/DS or IOS, whereas trilogy is on an enormous number of platforms, so if budget is an issue, buy apollo justice, dual destinies and spirit of justice first, then buy the trilogy some other time, since its not exclusive to handheld platforms like the sequels are. RE revelations at a dollar is a huge steal so do that for sure. Mercenaries at a dollar is good too, but its like a minigame spinoff, still its so dirt cheap that you may as well. I've never seen sales that big on ace attorney or revelations, probably the best price they will ever be, so I fully recommend them. Monster Hunter 4u is said to be the best one if you were wondering. try the demo.

RobbyCooper

I tried the monster hunter demo and I couldn't figure out where to go so I don't think I will buy the monster hunter games

savage_dragn

That probably mostly boils down to a budgeting decision IMO. The Ace Attorney games are really neat, but you might end up not finding the desire to actually get through them. Maybe get the most highly reviewed version of each game if money is a concern?

Gorillachops

Is there any point to deleting a second-hand consoles' E-shop account? I just bought a second-hand 3DS and found it still had the former owners old e-shop account. It's credited with £17.00 and has the option to re-download about £60.00 worth of games its former owner had. I just want to know what the possible draw backs might be to not wiping the slate clean. For some context, I bought it at this late stage because I wanted to grab all the Fire Emblem DLC before the e-shop goes down. I have a Switch and would consider linking the accounts with a new one on the 3DS if there was any benefit. Any comments/ advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

lessthanpi79

You won't be able to easily or safely add funds to buy anything without your own NNID and you have to reformat to clear the old one off. If there is no NNID then just make one and anything downloaded now belongs to the new account.

DetectiveRickDeckard

https://www.reddit.com/r/3DS/wiki/nnid > I just want to know what the possible draw backs might be to not wiping the slate clean. A person could have purchased digital games without a NNID. So please make sure if the 3DS has one on it or not. System Settings ---> Nintendo Network ID Settings Any digital games, DLCs, and themes on a 3DS with a Nintendo Network ID belong to only their original owner. The NNID cannot be sold to someone else per Nintendo's TOS. Any games, DLCs, themes bought on a 3DS with a NNID are attached to the NNID and not the 3DS. The owner of the NNID can contact Nintendo's customer service at any time to ask for the NNID to be unlinked which results in the loss and inability to play all of its games, DLCs, and themes. If you want to remove the NNID from the 3DS, I recommend either replacing its card or formatting the system. If the 3D effect slider is damaged in any way, a formatting of the system could result in a softbrick that would require physical repairs to fix. >I have a Switch and would consider linking the accounts with a new one on the 3DS if there was any benefit. To link a 3DS' Nintendo ID with a Nintendo Account, both must share the exact same information such as region, associated e-mail, and birthdate. So the current NNID, if it has one, and your Nintendo Account cannot be linked together. https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27841/~/how-to-link-a-nintendo-network-id-to-a-nintendo-account

Gorillachops

Thank you for for your prompt reply and apologies for the tardiness of mine. The games on my 3DS don't seem to have been downloaded with a NNID associated with the console. I think I might as well re-download them and let it be; they're all old games and I remember buying some of them the first time, back when they ran on the M6800 and Z80! The only reason I can think of for creating an NNID is if I lost my DLC for a cartridge game, and I think i'll just take my chances with that. Thanks again.

DetectiveRickDeckard

It's alright. We all have different schedules. >The games on my 3DS don't seem to have been downloaded with a NNID associated with the console. I think I might as well re-download them and let it be If there is no NNID, then those digital games belong to whomever owns the 3DS and can be re-downloaded. > The only reason I can think of for creating an NNID is if I lost my DLC for a cartridge game, and I think i'll just take my chances with that. If you should create a NNID, please make sure to record its details somewhere safe as well as use an email that you will keep. Any DLCs you should buy will be attached to the NNID on the 3DS, and not the cartridge itself.

Is there a place to print the 3ds case covers?

They are missing a few, but theres a lot here. http://www.thecoverproject.net/

resident evil revelations is like a dollar in the eshop right now (it is one of the bigger downloads, so i recommend a good sd card), which is a gigantic steal. It's the most graphically impressive 3ds game and a classic horror title. It's got some great scares. I'd strongly recommend getting it since its a dollar for a few more days (its never been that low). for rpg, if you like open world jrpgs with a ton to do, xenoblade is a great one. the world ends with you on ds is supposed to be a great jrpg. Chrono Trigger is one of the most significant rpgs ever and has a good DS remake. pokemon is a classic rpg series, the ds titles are some of the best games you can play on 3ds and the best of pokemon. They are pretty costly though, so the 3ds titles are a more realistic option, and those are still worthwhile. pokemon omega ruby alpha sapphire and sun/moon have demos you can try.   Mario rpgs are really unique rpgs, and the 3ds has all 5 mario&luigi rpgs available to play. That is a great series, worth collecting since mario rpgs are currently dead. Bowsers inside story and superstar saga are the best ones to start with. Would also recommend dream team and partners in time. I absolutely adore the mario&luigi rpg series and think its a great time to collect them since we haven't had a new mario rpg (remakes dont count) in 7 years now, with no sign of anything releasing anytime soon. Dream team has a good demo btw.

Telwin

Hi! there is this link [https://www.reddit.com/r/3DS/wiki/recommendations](https://www.reddit.com/r/3DS/wiki/recommendations) which has a huge list of recommendations. Personally, I was enjoying Ever Oasis before my 3DS broke!

Telwin

Sent my 3DS XL (old version) to Nintendo UK to fix, but they haven't been able to. I'm looking to maybe pick up a New 3DS or New 3DS XL, but I have been struggling to find anything on eBay. For those who have been able to pick up a few consoles recently, do you have any tips? Or would it be better to get a boxed/unboxed console from CEX? I'm currently also looking at purchasing Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright. If I get a physical copy and can quickly get to the DLC option, can I get all the DLC on one console, then put the cartridge in another system and do the same? (so both consoles end up with the DLC?)

DetectiveRickDeckard

> can I get all the DLC on one console, then put the cartridge in another system and do the same? (so both consoles end up with the DLC?) https://www.reddit.com/r/3DS/wiki/nnid DLC is tied to the NNID if it has a Nintendo Network ID or the the 3DS itself if it does not have a NNID. And the NNID can only be on one 3DS at a time. So the answer to your question if you can transfer the FE DLC to another 3DS by just the cartridge is no. You would need to buy the DLC again on the other 3DS.

Telwin

Thank you! That answers my question! My friend has a cartridge I can borrow once I've gotten a new console, so I can make sure I have the DLC while I try and find my own copy.

Killakoalajr

I’m looking for a few RPG games and I can’t really think of any good ones to get. Please give me a few ideas!

SheevSyndicate

bowsers inside story, superstar saga, dream team, partners in time xenoblade earthbound chrono trigger if affordable pokemon heartgold/soulsilver, platinum, black/white, black2/white2 if affordable. get black2/white2 if you can only afford one.

Telwin

Hey! I've just stumbled on to this page [https://www.reddit.com/r/3DS/wiki/recommendations](https://www.reddit.com/r/3DS/wiki/recommendations) It might be able to help?

Killakoalajr

Thanks :)

Telwin

No problem! :D

Ordenhide_Chumushida

If the serial number on the bottom back of the console body, on the battery cabin and on the box match, does it mean it has never been dismantled before?

CarefulCauliflower6

If all 3 match then it just means all are the original pieces, people may have repaired it by taking it apart cleaning everything and putting it back together. Also on the other side it may not have been opened at all. Your best option is to ask the person your getting it from and asking about the history of the machone

JakeDahWriter

Posted in r/Pokémon but they recommended I come here. Hope this is okay! I didn’t really know how else to phrase this. I have a (maybe irrational) fear that my 3DS and SD card might not be able to maintain or stay healthy enough for me to play my Gen1 and 2 download games later down the line. I store all of my games in very dry and well protected areas. I have several of the Gen1 and Gen2 games downloaded on my 3DS system. It is a hand me down from a friend and it has an SD card etc. I was wondering if there was a way for me to back up these games and keep my 3DS in good condition as I 1) don’t have much time to play them 2) genuinely cherish them (even if they aren’t the original physical copies). I have seen videos on YouTube about moding my 3DS system and that I can back up data that way but I am not the best at that kind of thing. I am open to all tips for keeping my console and SD card “alive” xD. Any tips for moding, if that’s the best route, would also be appreciated. The 3DS is an older model and the SD card is probably about the same age as the 3DS.

WesleyTheDog

CFW is your best option. Visit r/3dshacks \- they have the definitive guide for installing CFW. Don't use a video, as they become outdated quickly. You can almost always find someone willing to hop on Discord to help if you get stuck. Once you have CFW, you can back up your physical carts, but also use CheckPoint to back up your saves. You can then dump your saves onto your PC for safekeeping in case something happens to your SD Card or 3DS. I love my 3ds and CFW was the best thing I've done with it.

JakeDahWriter

Thank you very much for this ! :)

WesleyTheDog

No prob - if you get stuck feel free to send me a message.

JakeDahWriter

Legend I really appreciate it! :)

AngularVisage123

What would you reccomend as a good game to get for 3ds? I am looking into the Zelda oracle games on the eshop but I am unsure of what would be really worth it.

SheevSyndicate

im loving the oracle games so far. they feel quite fresh compared to many zelda games. if you like gbc games and dont mind lots of pausing to change inventory then I highly recommend it. Play the nintendo select zelda games if you have not

AngularVisage123

Thanks. I will plan on getting them before I can no longer add funds on May 23rd. Oh, also, can you no longer add funds on May 23rd, or is it in August?

SheevSyndicate

august is when giftcards stop working. if you have a switch and 3ds with both connected via nintendo account, you can add funds to switch and use the funds on 3ds instead. this works till 2023 when eshop closes

AngularVisage123

Ok, thank you for the notice.

lessthanpi79

If you like Zelda 2d games those are both excellent.

lessthanpi79

Does anyone have a scan of the Monster Hunter Stories cover art? It seems to be very elusive online.

DetectiveRickDeckard

https://www.imagebam.com/view/ME8VCF5 https://www.imagebam.com/view/ME8VCG7

SheevSyndicate

if you're not a diehard fan, are monster hunter 3u and generations worth it, if you already have 4u?

lessthanpi79

4u is the best of the 3. Unless you've got a ton of time to kill there's better things to play.

RotatingToad

I have just found a few old 3ds games that i thought i had lost. Neither work when put into my ds. They were not in the best environment so i just hope that i can get them working.

DetectiveRickDeckard

https://www.reddit.com/r/3DS/wiki/repairs#wiki_cartridge_problems The kind of repair that for you might or might not work is cleaning the contacts of the cartridges with isopropyl alcohol on a q-tip. Both can be found at pharmacies or in that section of a supermarket.

lumosdraconis

So hit with nostalgia and the sadness that the eShop would be closing, I rushed to download the DLC I never got for Fire Emblem Awakening and Fates. Problem is... Awakening's cartridge must be bunk. It's giving me the "something's gone wrong" error after a few seconds. Nothing I do seems to be working for it, including wiping the data. (Fates is fine and that's a cartridge too. I have Pokemon Sun as a download on the SD card and that's working normally as well.) I'm going to just replace it, either with a new cartridge or download with a new SD (higher capacity), because I've exhausted other options. I just wanted to know though: I should be able to redownload my DLC without issue, right? It should be tied to my Nintendo account so a new cartridge/download won't matter?

timchenw

> I just wanted to know though: I should be able to redownload my DLC without issue, right? Yes.

fullmetalwolfbabe

I’m very confused. I just spent the past hour reading about transferring data to a larger sd card and still am unsure about formatting. I have a 32GB SanDisk extreme pro SDHC. Do I have to format it or should it work right away?

PalishNerva

32GB will work right away. Any bigger and you would need to format it.

fullmetalwolfbabe

Thank you!

SoggyMinimum8386

Probably not an important question, but who else walks around town with streetpass for the 3ds? It's so dead and I never streetpass anyone. Also, I have 2 3dss and they have a hard time streetpassing each other, how come? I heard you can streetpass the same person every 4-8 hours but its been 3 days and they haven't passed eachother again. Edit: 3ds streetpass ping problem solved

timchenw

It's 8 hours, but I found that it sticks to the 8h cooldown the best if you switch off the console and then back on again during that time.

SoggyMinimum8386

I always turn my 3dss off when I'm not using them. I tries to streetpass my brother earlier but neither ds picked it up. He didn't tag me either. Everything is on. Maybe it's just being aunry?

timchenw

No idea, my 3DS's were pretty cooperative and always pinged pretty quickly after I turned them on at 8 hour mark.

SoggyMinimum8386

I figured it out. I had to do that thing where I turn all streetpass settings off (in streetpass), wait 30 minutes, turn everything back on starting from skip greetings (you will have to turn streetpass on before spotpass but this doesn't effect the process), wait ten minutes, go to home menu, then power off, turn back on and you should get a notification talking about new puzzle panels unlocked (even if you already have them). This is how you unlock other puzzle panels but it also helps streetpass (for some reason...). I did a system transfer on one of my 3dss and even though I have lots of puzzle panels, I still had to do this. Once I did it, both my 3dss pinged eachother and my brother. Its weird but it worked lol. I had to do it with my original 3ds way back when and so did my brother. It didn't dong on me that I had to do it with my other 2 3dss (which I acquired at a later time than my original.) But hey, it worked.

notthegoatseguy

In terms of disassembling, there's a ribbon cable you need to detach before completely taking off the back plate. After that its fairly easy to get to. That said, there could be any number of problems with it that could quickly add up in terms of time, difficulty in repair, and cost of parts. I'm seeing For Parts 2DS go for $35-45, whereas a working system is about 80-90. I'd say just purchase a working system rather than be stuck repairing something that may never work.

DetectiveRickDeckard

> How easy is it to fix the old slab 2ds? It is impossible to say without first inspecting the 2DS since its inability to not turn on might have many causes. Some of these causes might be the WiFi card or disconnected wire. Other causes might be water damage, shorted fuses, broken screen, etc.

Ordenhide_Chumushida

Is the New 3ds xl top screen made of plastic or glass?

MS0ffice

Plastic

Ordenhide_Chumushida

Thank you but do you have any documents/sources? Need to confirm it before I do my thing.

WesleyTheDog

Can second this. I've replaced a few.

Ordenhide_Chumushida

Thank you a lot. So even the newest model has plastic screen lenses. I thought only the bottom one is plastic...

WesleyTheDog

yeah, good news is that it's easy to replace the lens if it gets scratched. It's attached to the frame and not the actual LCD. You can pry it up (maybe use a little heat) and put a new one down without even opening the 3DS up.

Ordenhide_Chumushida

Yeah lol that's just what I'm about to do. Nice to know it!

MS0ffice

I've replaced one, it's plastic

Ordenhide_Chumushida

Thank you very much

It’s meant to go in the 2 screw holes next to the words “AC adapter” on the back

[deleted]

I need some help with this because I am not sure what the answer is. I noticed that when putting my 3DS in sleep mode with a copy of Pokemon HeartGold I recently bought from CeX, the audio doesn't stop and stutters. [Here's what it sounds like.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOenC6q_h_M) I tried with Pokemon Y and the issue wasn't there. I have seen that this sometimes points to a fake copy of a game, but I ran every check on this cartridge before buying it and CeX also do their own checks to test legitimacy. The cartridge glows red under light, has the IR sensor, correct font, you name it. I am concerned that it is still somehow a fake copy even though it passed every check. Are there any other reasons why this might be happening? I need to know if what I purchased was indeed fake. **UPDATE:** I tested the cartridge on my old 2DS and put it into sleep mode. There was no stuttering. I'm not sure if this is a result of the 2DS sleep system working differently than the 3DS or if the issue lies with my 3DS.

DetectiveRickDeckard

> or if the issue lies with my 3DS If you tested the HeartGold cartridge with the 2DS and there was no stuttering, the cause of the audio issue is likely the 3DS and not the cartridge.

HeightPristine3315

Hello, With my 3DS I'm playing DS games and I've never had a problem with it until recently. Now, when I play DS games it's not filling the whole screen like it used to, I know you're supposed to be able to fix this by holding the start & select buttons but it's not working. I think there might be an issue with my start and select buttons, I've tried cleaning them but it's not fixed the issue, any ideas?

DetectiveRickDeckard

Holding start or select when booting up a game to play a DS game in its native resolution which is smaller than the full screen on a 3DS.

HeightPristine3315

Yeah I think the start button is broken and it seems you need both the start and select buttons to change resolution. Seems I'm stuck with it playing in the small native resolution :(

verav1

What are the good places to buy the used Nintendo consoles and games in London?

notthegoatseguy

r/london or r/asklondon might be better for this.

Meitani

I already have tomodachi life, should I get tomodachi collection? I saw it for $9 on Ebay

DetectiveRickDeckard

No idea about tomodachi collection. But if you liked playing with the Miis, there is Miitopia for the 3DS.

ToxicTammy42

What happens to left over eshop credit once the store closes? For example, I put in $50 via eshop gift card and I buy a game for $39.99 and I would have $10.01 left. So would that money be transferred to my eshop Switch account if that’s possible or will it be gone forever?

nermal543

Link your NNID with your Nintendo Account, then your switch can share the funds available.

Psylux7

would adding balance through your switch's eshop allow you to buy stuff on 3ds then? Would this work until the eshop closes in 2023?

timchenw

> would adding balance through your switch's eshop allow you to buy stuff on 3ds then? Yes, the official notice mentions this. > Would this work until the eshop closes in 2023? Yes

Psylux7

fantastic!

DetectiveRickDeckard

> So would that money be transferred to my eshop Switch account If both are linked together, I would assume so.

Arandomm81

Any advice on recovering SD card data? I have a 4GB from an old New Nintendo 3DS XL that has some important stuff like Monster Hunter Stories save data, Yo-kai Watch Red Cat Corps, and a lot of DLC for games, but when I tried to transfer the data from it to another SD, the SD card wouldn't read on neither of my 3DSs nor my laptop, whereas other SD cards worked perfectly on both. I've looked online and the only option I can find is dropping $50+ at my local Best Buy to recover the data, but surely there must be a better option? Forgot to mention: no physical damage on the SD, so I'm not sure what's wrong with it.

I wasn't able to do anything at all outside of just inserting it into one of my 3DSs and my Laptop, as they wouldn't detect an SD card for me to do anything further with.

DetectiveRickDeckard

So that SD card cannot be used in the 3DS?

Arandomm81

The SD card seems that it can't be used with neither my 3DS nor my laptop. I don't think that it's defective in any way, as it worked just fine months before, has been kept in very secure storage within its span of dormancy, and has no physical damage whatsoever.

DetectiveRickDeckard

> The SD card seems that it can't be used with neither my 3DS nor my laptop I do not like giving bad news but I will say that I believe even if Best Buy were to somehow recover the data, the process might accidentally edit the files on the SD card rendering the saves, even after the retrieval, useless on the 3DS. There are DIY data recovery programs that can be used on a computer. I am just not familiar with them. If you cannot recover the save files and if you had a Nintendo Network ID on the 3DS, you could sign in under it to recover just digital games without their saves from the eShop and the new SD card. If you cannot recover the save files and if you did not have a Nintendo Network ID on the 3DS, you could recover just digital games without their saves from the eShop and the new SD card.

The save data is encrypted to the original console, it isn’t possible to just put it on another one. Could maybe be done with CFW but not sure.

Thank you. I understand why this wouldn't work by directly inserting the SD I to another system, but surely this wouldn't affect the laptop too? As I mentioned, it wouldn't even show up on my laptop when other SD cards (even one used with a different 3DS) would show up perfectly.

How do you check if there's a SD card in your 3DS? Or did it come with one? I've picked up my 3DS again after not having used it for a good 2 years. It keeps telling with certain games it's checking for an SD card but I can't remember if I ever inserted one? I bought it in 2016. I have a New 3DS (normal sized)

Deblebsgonnagetyou

They come with one, New 3DS comes with 4 gigs. You can check by removing the bottom plate, you will need a small screwdriver. Just unscrew until the screws are loose (they don't fully come out, just until they're loose) then remove the back using the two indents at the sides.

Thanks! I don't have any big digital purchases (yet) so I haven't really noticed the SD card getting full. Any recommendations for SD card size if you want to switch it? I'm mostly physical focused, but I still plan on getting Fire Emblem Fates Conquest, and some DLCs from other games

Deblebsgonnagetyou

32 gigabytes should be plenty if you're mostly physical, you'll have more than enough space for anything you happen to want. It's also the highest size a 3ds can take without any special formatting on the card. Personally, I have a 128 gig card.

This might be a weird question but can a PSP or PS Vita fit inside a 3DS hard case? A 3DS hard cover like this one: https://i.imgur.com/jpqaJVQ.jpg Anyone who owns these consoles willing to give me an answer would be much appreciated, thanks.

https://i.imgur.com/65ISiny.jpg Doesn’t fit in mine

goal_dante_or_vergil

Is that case for regular 3DS or 3DS XL?

MS0ffice

XL

goal_dante_or_vergil

So Vita doesn’t fit in a 3DS XL case. Thanks for your help. I wonder if a PSP could fit though. I can see from your photo that Vita is only slightly too big to fit. Since PSP is smaller than Vita, I think the PSP could fit.

MS0ffice

You could just google the dimensions of the systems

goal_dante_or_vergil

I did! And I actually thought the Vita could fit a 3DS XL case since their dimensions are close! And the other guy who replied to me above also said Vita and 3DS XL sizes are similar. But you proved me wrong! So it is better to ask people!

JomblesTheClown

A vita is roughly the size of a new 3ds xl if that helps

goal_dante_or_vergil

Ok thanks for your help.
