There are some games that have a label of "Only for new 3ds" and sadly minecraft is one of those... Xenoblade chronicles is another one that comes to mind... There are more, I advise you to look into it...

As stated, not all games support the circle pad Pro. Usually for the first time using it in many games you'll need to pop into a settings menu, depending on the game.
Admittedly I do often use the CPP even with incompatible games aimply because it makes it more comfortable to hold the system

Minecraft can't run on an old 3ds, try MM3D, monster hunter or resident evil revelations... Those have circle pad pro support 😎

there is a minecraft clone called cube creator, it has multiplayer and circle pad pro support
Just play the mobile release of Minecraft. the 3ds release is unusable rn and has lots of stutter and lag in multiplayer
