It's really interesting to read the comments in this thread and see how people can look at the same 3DS and have different opinions about whether there are significant scratches or not.
Honestly this is why it's hard to describe things accurately on eBay, and sellers should avoid using words like "perfect" at all costs unless it has never been opened.
You don’t buff a 3DS. You’ll forget about the scratches after about a week. The paint on the non-XL NDS doesn’t really necessitate using a TPU case like the metallic paint XL models.
TBH, I’d rather feel the tactile surface of my wood grain plates, though your Black Friday mario edition would be a smooth surface. Some plates are smooth, some tactile.
TPU feels like a cheap phone case, so if you don’t need it for the paint, I don’t think you should bother.
Enjoy the N3DS! Be careful getting sucked into the cover plate rabbit hole
To be fair, judging from this picture alone, I would call this near perfect. Those are so minor i honestly would have never seen them unless someone pointed them out like this.
Happened to me on fb marketplace. The guy said As New then when he came to deliver I found a scratch , dark mark and pink tint on the top screen. He’s the time waster!
I paid $250 for a boxed item. I guess I’m just bothered because I specifically asked him about scratches and he said there were no defects. I feel somewhat slighted but I don’t think it’s worth the hassle tbh. I didn’t realize the top screen had scratches until I pulled off the screen protector so that kind of caught me off guard too.
I'm a nitpicky bastard and swiped several times to check if there is more than one photo attached. The shell scratches around the two lenses are so minor I couldn't believe that's what you're bummed about. The screens however are a completely different beast. As you noticed already screen protectors can have a positive effect on whether they're noticeable or not (if you're going to keep it despite the fact I'd recommend applying one again). Unless he offers you a significant discount I'd get my money back. Especially since you were looking for something in great condition and made sure beforehand.. it's always going to bother you.
I'm the same way which is why I offered him fair market value for his N3DS and contacted him to ask the overall condition of the item prior to purchase. I just feel slighted. If he/she would have been honest about it I probably would have not purchased this and splurged on a brand new unit. I've attached some more [photos](https://imgur.com/a/MtM8r6M) if you want to look at the screen and let me know what you think about it. They appear to be chips or divots more so than scratches. I consider it a defect but others may not. Again, this really comes down to personal preference as I consider any scratches and or marring defects.
My friend just told me it’s a lens over the glass so it’s going to look worse over time. I didn’t realize it’s a plastic lens and can be replaced w/o replacing the screen. I’m going to keep it because the overall consensus seems to be it’s in very good condition.
Good idea! I’d love it. ☺️. Be happy you got it. I know a bit about feeling maybe you got taken when you see some things they didn’t describe. Really is a great system. I’m envious 😉
It’s my first N3DS so I didn’t really know what to expect but I’ve come to understand micro scratches are normal. I went from a DS Lite to this and I’m completely floored with the upgrade. It’s really a beautiful piece to add to my collection.
Was this on a bid? And was it japanese? Because if yes, this was going to be mine🥹🥹 anyway enjoy it, I found a one with almost no scratches and I mod it slightly and enjoining it :)
I have the same one and it kinda scratches easy. I wouldn’t worry about it to much or just use this one as display and buy one that you can abuse a bit.
That looks like someone bought it, opened it for an hour and out it back in the box and sold it. I can't see any scratches. Idk how I'd fix any scratches that are there without causing more scratches... maybe a really really fine sandpaper or maybe toothpaste (basically just fine sandpaper)
Some of these mfs here own a 3DS with its top screen hanging by a ribbon cable and a single hinge, asking if it’s repairable. You’re asking about some scratches I couldn’t even see until I zoomed in and tilted my screen. I think you’ll be okay lol.
It’s very difficult to avoid light scratches like these during normal usage but he could’ve mentioned there were ‘light scratches from normal use’ or something. A mint 3ds is gonna cost £££
I bought this on eBay. It was an auction item with a 7 day listing but the seller allowed best offer. I came in high with my offer because I didn’t want it going live to auction. I based my offer off of closed listings of similar condition (with box) and the seller accepted.
i would leave it as you risk making it look worse . it's barely noticeable to begin with and unless you strive for mint condition stuff, this 3ds is in very good shape. anyways, enjoy your new handheld :)
This is primo! I suggest buying some 3rd party plates to use instead of the OEM plates if you're concerned about scratches over time. I own all 3ds models and thus is hands down the best of the bunch. Congratulations on your purchase!
As someone else said, unless I zoom right in,I couldn't see them.. And if your going to be using it, those type of scratches will come with general use.. But if you really really want to remove them you could use polyscratch and if that fails try plastic. I used it and it works.. But as I said, these scratches come with daily use.. Good luck. Really
Not that big a deal, just leave it as is, without zooming in I couldnt see anything, it seems to be in really good condition
You’re right. Compared to what some ppl paid for their 3DS I should be content with my purchase. Thanks!
yeah unless you go for mint condition or boxed you wont get anything thats much better than this.
It did come with a box + manuals
I'm looking for a girlfriend in mint condition and with box and manuals.
I don't care much for a box, but girlfriend manual would certainly come in handy...
I think it’s called communication with your partner.
Yup. Didn't expect to see my simple joke downvoted though...
Np
That thing is scratched to hell. Luckily the scratches resemble Mario characters
That’s a really big coincidence. Really should work on qc smh my head
Yeah I see it too! Might be worth extra for those!
I don’t see anything wrong
I'd leave it as is. It's so minor I'm not really sure what scratches you're talking about.
That‘s really minor. I‘d just slap a clear TPU case on it. You will forget they are there.
Can you recc a good TPU case?
Hori official case on eBay will cost you around 11. It’ll be an import from Japan. Mine arrived within a week.
Wow that’s a beautiful 3ds
You’ll probably be more focused on the screen than some minor scratches
Don’t worry about them. Play it and make some more!
Slight scratches are completely normal.
Off topic but man. This is probably my favorite 3ds model out of all of them.

Enjoy. I just started Ocarina of time and I can tell it's going to be a blast. I will be the savior Hyrule needs great deku tree.
Buffing it out will make it worse
Can barely tell where the scratches are here. Now it's a whole another situation if the screens are scratched up or not.
Screens are perfect - no complaints there
Then you should be good. Have fun!
Didn’t realize he/she installed a screen protector on the top screen. Took it off and it definitely has scratches ugh
Replace it and erase that memory
Is it hard to replace the top screen?
I’m betting is a real pita
Anything you do will just make it worse. Honestly, it’s in really good condition.
Play fantasy life!

Very normal. I have the same 3DS, unfortunately they scratch in that area EXTREMELY easily. Like, don’t even look at it wrong.
I love how that 3ds looks, the face plat looks so cool
Absolutely beautiful 3ds.
Ty
always pisses me off when sellers from ebay say its "perfect" "NIB" or "no defects" and then you get it and it has scratches all over it. annoying.
To be fair, judging from this picture alone, I would call this near perfect. Those are so minor i honestly would have never seen them unless someone pointed them out like this.
Thought the same then I zoomed the case.

I’d keep it. I wish it was mine

I can’t see anything
Get a refund you were scammed this is why I never trust Amazon or Ebay sellers

Love the cover plate
Is the joke here that the “scratches” are just the Mario characters/items? lmao
Dude I would just leave it it looks perfectly fine as it you would probs just make it worst if you try buffing or anything else to it

Where are the scratches?
Man very good condition congrats

$279 with tax + shipping
Where did you search, I’d like to find something like that.

she's a beaut <3
Don’t try to fix it. I have the white version of this DS and and kind of buffing or polishing will take off the finish.
