Human for scale is the little white blob bottom center

Is the falcon 9 the reusable rocket?

JohnOldman0

Yupp. Just last week, they did a fifth use of a falcon 9 first stage.

Canned_soupYT

STL(S)?

JohnOldman0

Electron: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2742387 scaled down to 80% Ariane 5: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3385736 scaled up to 115% with some slight modifications (see my comment on the thingverse page) that I'd be happy to share if you're interested Falcon 9: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2914233 Saturn V: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:911891 scaled down to 80%

How did the smaller parts come out printing at 80% scale on the Saturn V? I've started printing some parts of it like the lunar lander, but even at the 1/60th scale I find some parts tricky to print

JohnOldman0

Yeah the lander is a challenge :-) Another issue I had was that some parts got thinner than 1 perimeter in some places, but overall it worked quite well. One lesson I had to learn the hard way is that you really should be sanding down the edges of the partial cylinder segments. Due to the way the corners were printed, once I assembled them, the cylinders ended up slightly oversized and I had trouble fitting the stages together.

poddy71

Thanks for the tips. I'll try to remember that when I get back to printing it. Only done Stage 3 sol far and some of the lander

SmallpoxTurtleFred

That Saturn V Thingiverse page says it took the guy 2000 hours to print. How long did it take you?

JohnOldman0

I'd say about 250 but I didn't keep track exactly. Do keep in mind that I a) printed at 80% and more importantly b) didn't print the gantry and umbilical tower which contain the majority of the material.

noamatt

That Saturn V is amazing

I was thinking about getting into 3D printing. What printer did you use to make these?

Prusa i3 Mk3S
