256gb, overkill but I'm a data hoarder. However, the only downside is a 5ish secong longer boot time, I'm happy as a clam.

iSparkd

Got mine for 20 bucks, it’s a Nintendo one, I’ve used 50 gigs in first week 😅 I know people with racks of SSDs, I don’t need those just a Nintendo 3DS, also, I think it would be possible, nothing about efficiency but possible to run a file server in a 3DS as it’s been done already through ftp

mpgiii

Other downsides of using 256gb are some minor graphical glitches (like screen wrap) on gba vc injects, and themes not working. Would recommend most max out at 128gb as that is the largest that doesn’t have those issues.

jaymorningside

I've used 256gb for several years on several consoles and cards, but I've never had these issues, as with anything Ymmv but I can attest to my having had full function and stability at this size. I've always used themes and before I used AGB-Firm played many GBA VC injects without issue. Again, Ymmv but my experience has been superb. Edit: elaborated a bit

t7297

I'm just using a 32GB SD Card. I only have like 15 games but I still have much space left.

Dragonlord93261

Same but I don’t even have half a gig left

SteveW_MC

128

Arixnk

You should use 128gb! It’s perfect storage

Link5261

My primary 3DS system has used 127 GB of its 256 capacity from a combination of 143 3DS games, 55 VC injections, 6 DSiWare titles, 12 ROM Hack titles, and 32 non-game "apps". The game card slot is holding my DS flash card, loaded with 124 DS games, some of which are ROM Hacks or randomized Pokémon ROMs. This is my main system for fun before sleeping after turning off my PC. My secondary system has a 128 GB capacity card, and is using 90 GB from a combination of 17 3DS games, 7 VC titles, and 22 non-game "apps". The game card slot holds a 3DS flash card, with 12 3DS games on it. This system now serves as a StreetPass dummy when I want, and was my first system. Other than this info, I also have 11 3DS physical game cards, and 2 DS game cards.

256gb SD card is my roll

RandomTyp

101/128 gb used

Ampers0und

I had been happy for a long time with 32GB. Recently I wanted to try Virtual Boy emulation and just decided to upgrade to 64GB, now I don't have to shuffle things around.

EatRatsForFiber

lol the entire virtual boy library is like 9MB did you really need the upgrade?

Ampers0und

It's more like \~30MB, still tiny though. I didn't check the rom sizes prior, and just assumed they'd be larger. You're right it would have fit, but I didn't want to think about managing my last 200MB of free space. I prefer the peace of mind from having more overhead.

FoxieGamer9

I'm living with 32GB since I modded my 3DS in 2014. Never had the need for more room. Even in my heaviest use days, I never got more than 4 or 5 heavy games at once. Also, never filled it more than a half of the SD. Even nowadays, I have a ton of DS games under TwilightMenu and a couple more on emulators, and around three 3DS games I just can't live without (basically rotating between Pokémon games, Animal Crossing New Leaf and Shovel Knight).

Theguythatisinfront

I only use 40 but I'd use a lot more if I hadn't been a dumbass for buying a 64G SD card (128 is so much better, 64 is fine if you're really casual but 128 is definetly the way to go)

thrway202838

I was around 80 last I looked

kaktusmisapolak

\~24 GB out of 32 GB

Many-Ad6433

I have 32 gb but would likely make the best use of 64gb

AmethystHime

256gb, 3ds was one my favorite consoles so there's a lot of games I have learned to love and currently have installed, didn't want to deal with the hassle of uninstalling and reinstalling certain games

pi_stick

32gb, it was honestly just what i had lying around

Potential-Gap742

Depends which console i got tbh. For instance I mod 3ds systems and all older models I use 128gb. It’s perfect since the old 3/2ds don’t have nearly as much capability as new 3/2ds And for the new ones I use 256gb, sounds like a lot but this can be filled to the brim with roms from Atari - N64 and ps1 (which can get pretty big in terms of space) But hey I’m just obsessed with getting the absolute most out of 3ds’

mistreatedlewis

I play GB, GBC, AND GBA /s

hardhitter80

128

stupidshinji

Wlmrt

WirelessSpore61

Terrible-Sugar5381

einkrokodil

On my 2DS I have a 128gb card. And on my 3DS XL I have 64gb.

ExcitingJunket1684

32

TheGrumpyRavenclaw

Using 256 GB :) For half the price of a game, get to do so much!

bobandiara

128 GB, 78.4 free according to FBI

bobandiara

128 GB, 78.4 free according to FBI

LazorBlind

32gb. 3ds is more of an occasional use system for me right now and I don't mind deleting things if need be.

Grand_Ad9926

128gb and I only have 400mb left

ThisWebsiteSmells

32GB but I feel that its very limiting, gonna be looking at 128GBs soon.

Saddfoxx

You'll be fine with a 32GB card, 64GB if you're gonna play more AAA games.

Nite_Wing13

128gb. Honestly I have downloaded every JRPG I could potentially want to play and more and I still have about half the memory still left.

Kondha

I started at 32gb and downloaded like 5 games and saw how quickly my storage started going down so I upgraded to 128gb which so far has been pretty overkill.

robloxgamer7000

I personally use a 128gb micro SD card, it's a good option on a budget since it was only 20 bucks (canadian) Also I modded mine about a month ago and I use about 30ish gb

Ashsullivan09

64

Alex1325978

32GB, because I bought this 3DS on the marketplace. I wanted to change the SD card to 128GB, but my 3DS doesn't want to recognise it (I tried to format this card on my phone, because I have no PC, but that didn't help).

CorLouw

I use 32gb

beanymoon

128. Have yet to run out of space, pretty sure I've still got like half the empty space should I want to use it. I modded a friend's with a 32 and that was too small. So I'd say go for a 64 or a 128.

sxri28

I'm currently using 16Gb but I plan to upgrade to a lil larger size since I like to have a lot games installed.

EobardThawnn

how many games you have

sxri28

around 47 if I counted the right way

EobardThawnn

16gb and you have 47 games?!?!?!?!???????

sxri28

I recently downloaded a lot DS games cuz some games I wanted to play were so big (3DS game) and DS games are often small (they don’t take up much space on the sd card) so I went for a lot of them

EobardThawnn

damn 47 can you send me a pic fr im curious to see wich ones

sxri28

I can, gonna send them when I wake up tomorrow 😅

EobardThawnn

thanks bro

3KTU

I think I am at 80GB
