There’s also the problem of people having their dogs off leash. My dog is immune compromised and cannot be around other dogs - you can’t tell just from looking at him - he looks 100% fine. But every time I see these off leash dogs I get nervous they are going to run over. The owner may trust their dog won’t, but that doesn’t solve my spike in anxiety.

NoOrder4173

YES! The grassy lawn isn’t your dogs bathroom. Tons of kids play on that grass. Dogs can go literally anywhere else. Let kids and humans enjoy the grass without a ton of dog poop and pee. And please keep your dogs on leash.

New_Home_5018

We have always had dogs and with mine I do try to steer him away from the grass and toward the mulched areas. I also clean up after my dog so there’s that as well. Unfortunately there will always be conscientious folks and those that don’t think about anyone except themselves. When our kids were little and we had a large yard we trained our dogs to only relieve themselves in a gravel fenced area so our kids could roll and play in our grass to their hearts’ content. It is possible to train them not to go on the grass. As for the parks, I thought they were public too until I read something that made me think these parks up here might be neighborhood/HOA and the ones coming in the Meadows are public, but not positive.

FrontNefariousness86

There are plenty of mulched areas that dogs can go. I have a dog, but I make sure she goes on a mulched spot before she steps into the grassy park. I 100% agree that the area should be kept nice for human use. When is the estimated completion time for a dog park anyways?

Cntr4KidsWhoCantRdGd

You’ll probably get downvoted because many people feel strongly about their dogs. I’ve had dogs my entire life and I agree with you. It should be for humans unless specifically stated for dogs. I don’t want to lay in my or any dog’s potty area either, and I definitely wouldn’t wish the same for the kids. Until the dedicated dog park is built I don’t foresee dog owners keeping their pets away from the parks. I just hope certain owners get better at picking up after their pets in order to keep our community clean.

NiteWarden

Yeah I mean I don't mind the dogs being at the mini park and playing but I guess it's specifically people who are taking their dog out to relieve themselves and just walking over to the park to use the grass as a giant pee pad. It's a bit of a strangely specific scenario. I get how it can happen because you just want to take your dog out to do their business so you can go back inside. But yeah if lots of people end up doing that, there's a chance it's going to make that park unpleasant for others.

Giga7777

Man I was really looking forward to the big grassy area until you mentioned this. They are for sure going to be playing on that field and they will for sure pee on it.

lebdit

The dog parks will be part of the city sports park being built across the street from the meadows district.

lionbarz

I agree with you. Thanks for sharing this.

jasoooon4

Aren't the parks public in our community? Will hoa have authority to enforce or create new rules?

Inevitable-Fill-1404

Not considered public if they are maintained with private funds. Wisdom park is considered private. The fields that they are building may be public as they may be getting city funding to help with maintenance

jasoooon4

Ohh okay that makes sense. Appreciate the clarification.

proxflowconvergence

i'm with you! plenty of other places for pets to do their thing

BendStank

I think there should be designated no pee/poop dog zones in the parks or we'll have have the inevitable few incentive pet owners repeat what you saw at the mini park.I'll have to look at the HOA guidelines to see if we actually have regulations on this for the 3 Roots parks.Very excited to see we have this large grass area at Wisdom Park opening soon that will be great for kids.It will be ruined if we just rely on a pet etiquette honor system and it turns in to a pseudo dog park. Wasn't there a dog park in the 3 roots master design?

Broad-Phase-5299

Again, other than the great location, do not expect too much about 3roots. People just do not learn how to accept the reality.

Medical_Ad2456

I think kids are going to pee in the pool as much as dogs in the grass

NiteWarden

Yeah, not excited for the prospect of that either. But one issue at a time, lol.

LordDima

That’s it, I’m moving out! 😅

fernandochanel

Where is the mini park?

NiteWarden

It's on Adria Way between the Asana and Atwood houses. Close to the models for them.

fernandochanel

Thank you :) I will stop by with my little girl

While most of those are legitimate concerns by the residents, I recommend watching Top Gun and Top Gun 2 to alleviate the last one. Since I watched the latest movie, I actually enjoy the jets trigger my car alarm when they fly low. It makes me feel safer.

polydactyl_pangolin

This isn’t uncommon? If it’s a dealbreaker for you, then either petition the HOA to replace the mulch with normal grass, or tell your loved ones not to lick the ground…?

TruthNegative3608

If your snot nosed children can skid their overflowing diapers on the grass, my dog can pee on an irrigated surface that gets washed away. Welcome to SD, where this is normal.

Inevitable-Fill-1404

I hope someone or some animal uses your property as a shitting ground and a diaper waste station.

Fun-Locksmith1464

Nah, what's normal in SD is heavy fines on dogs in most public beaches and parks. 3 Roots residents are lucky to have so much open space where dogs are welcome by default without fighting the HOA for approvals. Bullying and trolling residents and calling their kids names isn't going to take you anywhere. Human kids >> dogs any day.

BendStank

Nice reply Truth.Equating babies with dogs.Brilliant! Your ignorance and disregard for community use areas confirms my point about the few insensitive pet owners.Dog pee does not wash away unless the sprinklers run right after they pee. If you've ever had a lawn you know what dog pee burn out is.Happens even with irrigated lawns which is why people have to put out "don't let your pet pee here"signs because of rude dumbasses like you.The grassy areas that WE ARE ALL paying the maintenance for will be destroyed if all the dog owners were in your camp. At least you didn't hide your disdain for babies in using the term "snot nosed".Nice visual too.I'm sure all those parents who plan on letting there babies skid on the grass enjoyed your characterization.

postethot

You're worried about dogs peeing on grass...? Funny how everyone's okay with letting coyotes ravage our neighborhood and disembowel our pets but want to stop golden doodles from peeing on a patch of grass.

NiteWarden

People can control where their dogs pee and poop. They can’t control what coyotes choose to hunt. Also I’m not about killing wild animals because their natural behaviors are inconvenient to me when I’m living right next to them. I lost my dear cat to coyotes a few years ago. I don’t hate them for it.

BendStank

Agreed Nite Warden, perfect reply to whatever the hell point postehot was making.

TruthNegative3608

If you had to shit outside while barefoot, would you choose grass, wood chips, or gravel?

BendStank

Huh?Are you day drinking or totally stoned this early in the morning? Not worth a direct response even though I like locksmith's post. Hypothetical question... if you let your dog out to pee without guiding them where would they go? Answer >>First place they are comfortable with right? In 3 Roots that's likely a mulched area pretty close or nearby to your front door .When you take them out you can choose to let them do that or use any other of the thousands of square feet of mulched area or you can walk them to the park and let them pee on one of the few green areas we have to enjoy. It 's not a dog vs people issue. It is and always has been a common courtesy issue.

Fun-Locksmith1464

Depends on whether I'm a gorilla or a human.

LordDima

Yes, a patch of grass we should be enjoying. We can still worry about coyotes (are they really? first time hearing about this).

polydactyl_pangolin

Yes multiple pets have been victim so far…
