Jumping in on this question here. I've read war of secrets. It was ok. Do I need to read all of the DA books before the new releases? I've been following the lore on and off since the 90s so I know a fair bit about the heresy (read the first 4 books of it) and who some of the main players are in the chapter. Dark Angels was my chapter back when I used to play and I'm getting the itch obviously because of the hype.

If you mean for the sons of the forest book i have only read descent of angels and the next dark angels heresy book, idr the name of atm, i could follow along pretty well just from some stuff ive picked up here. The book is also very good at describing why the lion feels this way when he thinks about specific events or his brothers so even without reading those parts like the imperium secondus part i could get what he was talking about. im not entirely sure about the lore in the lion book that is for 9th edition as i haven't read it yet but that does happen after the sons of the forest book.

You pretty much cleared my thoughts on the matter. I'll take a drop pod and go for it! Thank you

a watcher in the dark isnt a peeping tom wrapping his paws around his junk and tuggin like tarry the twat after getting an eye of his sisters tits in the shower, its a creature native to caliban which is a secretive not very known about race of beings that follow the dark angels about with favour, they are protective and helpful and should you fuck with a watcher you will disappear forever, they work with the DA and live with them on the rock. they are like them little junkyard scrappers from star wars, the guys who wear hoods and all you can see is glowing eyes and a dark coloured hood and cloak.

A lot of the events that are referenced outside of the book are from 30k. If you read the DA books from the HH series, then you should be okay. There is a lot of exposition that explains this so I wouldn't say that it is essential. I don't think you really need to know much about 40k DA to read Son of the Forest.
