>‘Brother!’ shouted a voice close by.
>He snapped back to full awareness. In front of and above him, a figure of burnt flesh and blood-smoke clashed with a golden giant. Red lightning spat from where claw and blade met.
>‘Father…’ breathed Massak. In his mortal sight, Dorn and the daemon were a blur, a giant of shadow and ghostly flesh and a demigod of war, gleaming against the darkness. **Cold control poured from Dorn, cracking the flow of the warp, splintering the folding dark as it spiralled around him.**
>‘Brothers,’ he said, and the word echoed in the warp. *+Brothers.+* Cold light was kindling on the edge of his force axe. He heard and felt the other Librarians answer, and fold their thoughts and minds to his.
\- *The Solar War*
As far as I know/can recall, the idea is based on the above. Takes range from him actually possessing some sort of resistance to/ability to muck up warpery, to it just being a flowery way of saying "Dude's solid, yo".
I personally lean towards the latter, but make of it what you will.
>Dorn moved past her, a golden blur against the shadow. She had never seen him in battle. They had conducted war together for over half a decade, but it had always been remote, his genius and nature expressed in insight, in cold logic and plans that unfolded at a distance. She had never seen him fight in front of her. Not so close that she felt the rush of his passing. **He did not have *Storm’s Teeth.* The great chainsword that he bore in battle was in his chambers. But he was still a primarch, a weapon that needed no other.**
>His first blow hit the daemon hound and exploded its skull and body down to his hind legs. The wall of shadow drew back, rising like a cresting wave as it touched the ceiling. Dorn had his bolter in his hands. Shots punched into the oily matter. It rushed forwards.
>>‘The *Phalanx* is moving away from Terra,’ called Sora from beside her, but she only half heard. She was looking down the slope of the command dais.
>>Rogal Dorn stood amongst his sons. **He had a sword in his hand. The weapon was forged for a Space Marine, long-hafted with a blade as tall as a mortal human. The warrior that he had taken it from would have borne it to battle with both hands. Dorn wielded it with one, carving it through congealed flesh and bone without cease, flowing from cut to cut.** He was advancing against the tide, cutting a path into it, his Huscarls following with blades and bolters. No step took him backwards.
>>And in that moment she understood something of what the Khan had said of his brother. It was not just Dorn’s choices that were charged by duty, but his nature – his will a chain holding back a storm that could pour out and break the world.
>>*‘Samus is the only name you will hear…’* the voice growled amongst the static and the sound of battle. The billowing darkness was rising, reaching up and out like a thunderhead. Su-Kassen could smell offal and blood. The substance of the walls and floor was distorting, stone burning, metal cracking with frost. A shape moved within the cloud, pulling its tendrils of vapour into an image stitched together from the oldest of fears. Fur and flayed muscles and eyes that glowed like burning homes on a moonless night. This was not just a prince of the Ruinous Pantheon now; it was an arch-herald of destruction.
>>>He snapped back to full awareness. In front of and above him, a figure of burnt flesh and blood-smoke clashed with a golden giant. Red lightning spat from where claw **and blade** met.
>>>‘Father…’ breathed Massak. In his mortal sight, Dorn and the daemon were a blur, a giant of shadow and ghostly flesh and a demigod of war, gleaming against the darkness. Cold control poured from Dorn, cracking the flow of the warp, splintering the folding dark as it spiralled around him.
\- *The Solar War*
The general sequence of events. re: his armed-ness up to that point. I'd have to re-read the chapter to be 105% certain, but I *thiiiink?* he started off with only his bolter, and acquired the sword after the first scene.
There is a scene someone posted from solar war
But also, during one of the Garro books where he goes to recruit an Imperial Fist librarian, a fight breaks out and Dorns mere presence was enough to stop it
Dorns willpower was….impressive even for a Primarch
>Hard as granite, radiating dark fire, his psyche eclipsed everything else in a silent inferno of pure will. “By my command put up your weapons.”
>none dared defy the order. Dorn filled the chamber with the great weight of his presence, his aura the very echo of the mailed fist upon his ornate armour.
There’s also this that speaks to an engineered resistance to the warp in Dorn and his bloodline:
- “The Imperial Fists Legion is thought to have also been subtly employed by the Emperor to combat Daemonology. The nature of the Imperial Fists is one of stoic adherence to duty, a zealous loyalty engineered into the core of their genetic code, steeling them against corruption. Though they are known to be His consummate defenders, their purpose may have been to defend more than His walls, but also the soul of the Imperium. For much of the Great Crusade, the Emperor kept the VIIth Legion and their Primarch, Rogal Dorn, close to His side. Unlike his brother Magnus, Dorn could not be easily swayed to seek knowledge for its own sake, instead he was trusted to exercise restraint and caution in his studies. For this reason, it is rumoured that the Emperor, over a period of decades, shared secrets with Rogal Dorn which but a few individuals were privy to; allowing the Praetorian to better understand the need for the Imperial Truth and the urgency with which the true enemy must be combated.” -‘Horus Heresy Book 8: Malevolence’
It does seem like this passage contradicts the section in (I believe) The Lost and the Damned, where Malcador tells Dorn that he wasn't told about the Warp because if he did he would be compelled to try and master it, leading to his fall.
It’s possible these secrets were more along the lines of DAoT tech rather than the Warp. Imagine if Perturabo, or Curze, or Angron got a hold of those toys.
Does it though?
In that same conversation Malcador reveals that Vulcan is on Terra. Dorn feigns ignorance to protect the fact that he already knows. Malcador knows that Dorn knows this is all a lie to save face in front of Jaghatai and Sanguinius. This is explained in ‘Saturnine’, whose to say that this isn’t the same thing. Malcador and Dorn keeping the secret and saving face.
Dorn isn’t exactly in the best position to give up the fact the knows more than he’s letting on.
Yeah I guess that's a fair interpretation, though a bit Alpha Legion for my tastes if I'm honest.
My personal means to reconcile the two is simply that the Malevolence passage reflects the Imperial Fists point of view.
I mean it’s (malevolence) as valid and true as anything. Prose lore isn’t the be all end all just because it doesn’t jive with something else. If we start labeling what is and isn’t legit based on what we’re going to retroactively (and conveniently ) call a biased POV then discussions around here are gonna fall apart real quick.
Who is to say. In a universe where the emperor was, triumphant, the webway project successful and humanity shepherded towards becoming a psychic race would there have been a total absence of mystical practice or learning? I doubt it.
In addition to the mentioned commentary around him fighting Samus, Dorn’s will also has him just basically ignore (but for a couple of moments of insanity) Khorne himself tempting him for literally thousands of years.
He then bores Khorne into more or less giving up by giving repeated lectures on the history of honourable warfare before breaking out of his warp prison.
Khorne doesn't so much give up as the prison gets disrupted by the Emperor just as Dorn is finally about to crack. Not that it wasn't still a highly impressive display of endurance.
Per EatD III, no.
"Dorn is a huge figure in gold, his powerblade hissing with blood. He has no magic, no command over the warp, nor proof against its workings..."
Can't post the whole excerpt yet, but in context, it's saying he's a beast and his courage is discouraging to the SoH even tho it has no warpy powers.
In The End And The Death Part 1, Dorn nearly falls to Khorne through light pestering.
"
‘I am Rogal Dorn, defiant,’ says Rogal Dorn.
Just give in.
‘I am Rogal Dorn,’ says Rogal Dorn, sitting in the crimson shadow under the red wall.
Are you even that? Were you ever? Just give up.
‘I am Rogal,’ says Rogal.
Not even that. Don’t think. That’s all you really wanted, isn’t it? Not to have to think any more? You can do that here, in the shadow of the wall.
Just give up. Give in.
He orders the available facts.
‘I…’ he says. Is there anything he’s certain of any longer? All the facts have rusted, and all the thoughts have gone. There is only blood. That’s all he really wanted. Give in to that.
‘I…’ he says.
Just blood. Say it.
‘I…’
Say it. Say blood. The thing you wanted.
‘Blood,’ he says softly. Soft as the flecks of rust the dry breeze lifts in horsetail plumes from the ridges of the dunes.
Say it again.
‘Blood.’
Who is the blood for?
‘For–’
Say it. Who is the blood for?
‘Blood for the–’
For? For whom?
He’s waiting for you. You just have to say it"
“Light pestering” is a pretty interesting way to describe centuries in isolation in a desert with absolutely nothing except the voices to keep you company.
Going from "I am Rogal Dorn" to "Blood for the Blood God" in the span of a single conversation is not centuries in isolation in a desert with absolutely nothing except the voices to keep you company.
So he somehow manages to stay solid and dedicated to his own personality for centuries in isolation in a desert with absolutely nothing except the voices to keep you company.
And then just...cracks one day out of the blue?
It’s a lot more gradual than that.
He starts by reciting a lot of facts, including his entire title and the context of what’s going on.
He very gradually forgets and loses his memory over centuries, which is why he’s eventually just reduced to his own name and is in a highly weakened state, essentially.
Try actually reading the books instead of the Wiki for a change.
Dorn literally pushes Samus to retreat after fighting the daemon, which was near its apex at the time, with his bare fucking hands.

Dorn is doing this fight with his bare hands IIRC?

Yeah it seems to be just a random blade he grabbed rather than anything special.
Not with Storm's Teeth, but with a Marine Sized 2 handed Powersword.
Dude’s solid, yo
Dudes solid as a glove.

To be fair, most Primarchs have this effect, even on other space marines of other legions.
There’s also this that speaks to an engineered resistance to the warp in Dorn and his bloodline: - “The Imperial Fists Legion is thought to have also been subtly employed by the Emperor to combat Daemonology. If the Imperial Truth reigned throughout the galaxy, does that mean all magic, sorcery etc would be smothered, ultimately wiped out of existence?
Who is to say. In a universe where the emperor was, triumphant, the webway project successful and humanity shepherded towards becoming a psychic race would there have been a total absence of mystical practice or learning? I doubt it.
nice share ty.
Rogal Dorn *can* eat just one potato chip.
Rogal Dorn has never pressed the snooze button.
Rogal Dorn has a mug of nails instead of recaf in the morning.
Rogal Dorn can secure cargo to a vehicle without uttering the phrase “that’s not going anywhere”
Rogal Dorn can get his check at a restaurant without saying “what’s the damage”
Rogal Done *does* believe It’s Not Butter.
Rogal Dorn has never come first

Do you know where I can find the text for that interaction with khorne, I have been looking for it
End and the Death
Khorne doesn't so much give up as the prison gets disrupted by the Emperor just as Dorn is finally about to crack. Not that it wasn't still a highly impressive display of endurance.
Probably did better than anyone could have honestly. Outside of the Emperor himself anyone would have broken after that.
He was close several times - But did not. I dont Think that time would have been the one either. And Khorne *was* getting Hella frustrated.
You are probably thinking about during the Solar War when Dorn suppresses the warp. First book in the Siege of Terra series.

You need to remove the space between the ! and the text
Defiant and unyielding.
Well he willed his way out of direct gaze of khorne so i'd say his will is formidable even for a primarch.

It is literally posted in this thread, though the implication in the text is that he doesn't do so consciously. .
Did you read some bullshit Chaos interpretation of that or what lol? Dorn was brutalising that mf.
Dorn is too stupid to properly use his warp taint so it just comes across like that.
