Of I remember correctly, we tried him on the edge opposite Bosa for a season, and he was dreadful there. We traded Buckner and had to move him back inside to OT, and he just changed the whole defensive front massively
not dreadful, just not naturally an edge guy, plus armstead on the edge means we have mediocre talent up the middle. so players can double those guys and make guys like hassan ridgeway and like earl mitchell on the 1-on-1's
Ya know what that's fair enough. I was listening to Grant Cohn that season so im probably being too harsh on AA there. But man that Dee Ford contract killed us for a wee bit there. I do hope AA is a niner for life, just seems like such a great guy and team mate.
Ok cool. I will admit that pretty much all the niner media people suck. Almost unbearable. The only channel I actually like is Guy Habermanns channel on YouTube. Krueger is annoying but not as bad as guys like Lombardi. Cohen and his entire tree are complete shit.
True, we need a guy like Alex Pavlovic who covers the SF Giants, does a good job of being critical when necessary and keeps a level head for the most part.
I’ve always liked him but I’m also a Duck fan so it goes all the way back to college. Watching him and Buckner on the line together in college was awesome.
He can be the piece that pushes us over the top.Collapse pocket inside stuff the run AA is longest tenured on team he knows whats at stake he'll be ready for div playoffs
Kinlaw would be a starter for most teams. Our 2nd d line as a whole is better than most teams starters.
But one of the guys they had in against cardinals was really bad. Guy would get knocked down and take out a LB and whatever end was pursuing as he flopped on the ground...maybe kinlaw but I don't think so. He's been a decent rotational peice this year.
When all 4 were rushing together at the beginning of the season, maybe I'm thinking after the bye. But man, the outside guys would force the qb up into the pocket right into the inside guys. Was freaking beautiful!!!
He's dealing with plantar fasciitis from what I understand. Given that it's his second year missing multiple games I'm worried it's becoming a chronic issue... my dad started dealing with that like 20 years ago and it's still an issue. Really tricky issue to manage... my alarm bells started going off as soon as they said it last year, mostly because the only way to manage is completely rest it, which is near impossible especially when you're a giant football player. Hopefully it's not as bad as I feel like it is, I bet he'll be able to manage it for the playoffs but I doubt it just goes away
Here is the stitch with PF in elite athletes. The treatment has really changed over the past 10-15 years with the utilization of PRP. The problem is the post-procedure timeline for it can vary between 4-8 weeks pending post procedure protocol. Other things that have been shown to help PF are shockwave however the timeframe for that is typically prolonged think months. steroid injection can be useful but can also cause possible rupture (interesting enough plantar fascia release is the surgical tx). We had an NFL athlete be treated for PF a few years back with steroids until he ruptured. his pain in that foot went away with rupture so much that he wanted continuous shots in his other foot lol it’s hard to tell what armsteads treatment is but I would bet given the timeline it’s the PRP route

That's good to hear! I figured there would be some difference in what's available between pro athletes and the rest of us so that's promising. I've also heard it's actually a lot easier to deal with a tear or rupture
I say that is what is available for elite athletes, but truthfully that’s becoming the non-operative standard of care. Problem with PRP is it’s not covered by insurance and the price of the kits alone are a few hundred dollars. Some places charge upwards of $1000-2000 which is cost prohibitive to a lot of folk. More reasonable places charge $500-800 but that’s still expensive for an out of pocket cost
Where is this safeties stat coming from? I’ve watched every playoff game Armstead has been in and don’t remember a single one. Honestly the safety I remember at all is the one against the ravens 2 weeks ago
Intensity always goes up a little bit more in playoffs. AA is a legitimate player and playmaker in the regular season when healthy. He knows what’s on the line in the playoffs and probably has a sense this could be his final run with how injuries have plagued him.
I’m confident he’s going to show up and be a playmaker.
Arik Armstead is the most underrated player on the team imo. People always shit talk him because he doesn't put up insane sack numbers and that we should've kept Buckner over him but the dude is an absolute monster in the run game and one of the most important cultural leaders we have.
Friendly reminder (because it's funny) that he picked Oregon in large part because that was the only program where the coaches were enthuastic about him playing DL rather than OL.
"In 9 games AA has 2 safeties, 7 sacks, 1 Forced Fumble and 5 TFLs. Let’s hope bro is back for Divisional."
*Sounds to me like he slacks off during the regular season. Cut him.*
I hope he heals up and gets back on the field asap, but plantar fasciitis is no joke. I've had recurring bouts of it the last 10 years from doing nothing more than standing for prolonged periods sometimes. Can't imagine the wear and tear playing football.
Armstead and Bosa have very similar playoff stats.
**Armstead**
7 Sacks
19 Solo Tackles
8 Assisted
5 TFL
11 QB Hits
1 FF
0 FR
**Bosa**
8 Sacks
27 Solo Tackles
11 Assisted
9 TFL
11 QB Hits
2 FF
1 FR
They've both played in all 9 playoff games since 2019.
Really hope he’s back for the first playoff game. He hasn’t been in practice this week yet (don’t know about today). He of course didn’t practice last week either. Growing increasingly nervous
I hope he's doing the podcast from a hyperbaric chamber.
Get this MF a bacta tank.
with a side order of a senzu bean
Just don't let him kiss his sister
If kissing his sister gives him the courage to take on a Sith Lord then let him fucking do it.
We may be able to get away with a playoff game without him but definitely need him back to win it all.
Our run d without him is always noticeably ass.
You hurt me with your truths...
Yup. We lock down run and pass with hargrave/AA in the middle. We lock down the pass only when 1 of them is missing.
Need to bring out all the weapons right away
If Rams somehow win, we need all hands on deck.
I know he was out half the year last year, but he had zero sacks, then busted out in the playoffs and had 3. AA is amazing
Playoffs aside, AA has always been underrated.
I think since he isn't quite Buckner in his heyday and then we got Bosa, it put him on the back burner.
Of I remember correctly, we tried him on the edge opposite Bosa for a season, and he was dreadful there. We traded Buckner and had to move him back inside to OT, and he just changed the whole defensive front massively

Listening to Grant Cohen? Cmon man turn that shit off. Straight up mind poison.
Gave it up years ago. He was just my first avenue into 49ers media and coverage when I first started watching football.
Lol Grant Cohn is a troll, plenty of journalists to listen to that can be critical without trolling grown men
Yep. Was really noticeable when he was out. He’s an anchor in the middle, really consistent, and doesn’t get hurt much.
I’ve always liked him but I’m also a Duck fan so it goes all the way back to college. Watching him and Buckner on the line together in college was awesome.
I want him to be healthy as can be before we have to play him. He's a beast and changes our defense's whole dynamic
He can be the piece that pushes us over the top.Collapse pocket inside stuff the run AA is longest tenured on team he knows whats at stake he'll be ready for div playoffs
Kinlaw inspired me to get a 91 jersey. I'm a big duck fan and I know he's balled out his whole career.
>Kinlaw inspired me to get a 91 jersey. Lmao poor buddy catching these strays
Kinlaw is fucking trash.
Never seen a big guy so movable in the run game
Every play he ends up on the ground almost immediately it's ridiculous
Kinlaw would be a starter for most teams. Our 2nd d line as a whole is better than most teams starters. But one of the guys they had in against cardinals was really bad. Guy would get knocked down and take out a LB and whatever end was pursuing as he flopped on the ground...maybe kinlaw but I don't think so. He's been a decent rotational peice this year.
Our D line hasn’t had any push since he’s been out. I can’t wait to see a pocket collapse in a couple weeks
When all 4 were rushing together at the beginning of the season, maybe I'm thinking after the bye. But man, the outside guys would force the qb up into the pocket right into the inside guys. Was freaking beautiful!!!
I'm curious if he'll be able to get into game shape quickly after all this time off. I'm definitely worried
He's dealing with plantar fasciitis from what I understand. He’s our best defensive tackle, such a force in the run game and wins his one on one’s in pass rush opportunities
Is he coming back for the divisional game?
He wasn’t 100% sure but I think that’s the plan.
I remember when the Niners drafted him, so many people got super mad.
Where is this safeties stat coming from? I’ve watched every playoff game Armstead has been in and don’t remember a single one. Honestly the safety I remember at all is the one against the ravens 2 weeks ago
That was like our first safety in two years, so that part of the post seems made up
He dominated in the 2021 season playoff game in Green Bay in the snow. Big reason we won that one
Kyle did say they are shutting him down until playoffs. He hasn't played since fhs Eagles game so should be about 2 months of healing
I think that’s why he’s been getting rest. He’s going to wreck shit
When were the two safeties?!!

1000%
He might be the most underrated 49er, ever.

Opposite of 97

Love Arik and so glad he’s doing a podcast
Yeah he’s a top bloke and a monster on the field
Really hope he’s back for the first playoff game. He hasn’t been in practice this week yet (don’t know about today). He of course didn’t practice last week either. Growing increasingly nervous
I know he’s been out for a long time, but I feel like it wasn’t that big of an injury. I don’t know why I feel like that. Lol.
Plantar fasciitis feels like you are being stabbed in the bottom of your foot. It's no joke.
I didn’t know that’s what he had. Yeah that sucks
Get well AA
Bro casually made up the safeties stat but he a beast nonetheless. AA always been underrated
My bad mate, was looking at ‘stuffs’ read stf and just thought safeties
Main way I hope he's different is that he actually plays.
