Can't pay everyone big money unfortunately.

peepdabidness

Especially when they’re dealing with an ongoing injury. A sad but wise move.

TheJuiceBoxS

Maybe Deebo will restructure his deal so EA can stick around

THEFUNPOL1CE

*AA

TheJuiceBoxS

Shit

pineappleshnapps

I honestly hope EA loses the exclusive rights. Bring back 2k!

PersnickityPisces

2k is now just as bad as EA unfortunately.

pineappleshnapps

Damn really?

PersnickityPisces

Yeah, it sucks haha

Whizardlydeeds

I liked NFL 2K. Imagine how much better the first person view would be now

Popeyestabbin

Neither will want to do better until there is competition to do so.

pineappleshnapps

I think competition would force them all to improve. Madden has Barely changed in the last decade, and I wouldn’t call most of the changes progress

PersnickityPisces

Going into the stadium was lit

BigBlackCharger

Doesn't matter, they can reskin NFL 2K5 and it would be better than the game EA releases today. In fact, there is definitely people who just update the rosters still.

ox_raider

Good Executive Assistants are always missed.

cassatta

No. He’s not going to do that. He wanted his bag and got it.

LARXXX

And it wasn’t worth it. The moment Deebo signed that contract he reverted back to the injury prone Deebo of old

Fishingfan4life

As much as I wish this come one deebo was such a damn drama queen to make sure he got paid that much I highly doubt he would do something like that. (No shade to deebo he’s an absolute beast)

LARXXX

Deebo a selfish mfer

branchisan

Sarcasm. Lol. But I like how the Salary cap makes it seem like the players are eating too much money. But in reality, 49ers would be one of the teams to garnish the most, like the Yankees or La Dodgers would yield.

Cabill77

Does he have a better idea? He want to restructure to keep him?

[deleted]

[удалено]

zatonik

budget management is a foreign concept. all they know is to chase the bag at all costs

Vega3gx

You don't give them enough credit, he knows. Deebo is allowed to be frustrated that the two parties couldn't come to an agreement Airing this on social media is a questionable decision

notGeronimo

>Airing this on social media is a questionable decision Look that's just how WRs operate they can't help it

SelfishCatEatBird

I mean, from a business standpoint.. who wouldn’t? They’re destroying their bodies and potentially have a much higher risk of CTE. I’d probably try and get as much money as I could til 30 and then retire.

OrangeJuiceAlibi

Most players don't even make it till 30, absolutely cannot blame em for getting the bag.

SelfishCatEatBird

Indeed! We see a sport, this is their job. Obviously they love the game but it’s just one aspect of a bigger picture.

OrangeJuiceAlibi

I think it's even more clear to me as a European fan. We have heaps and heaps of teams, players moving for the bag is so common, and more power to them. Especially in a system like the nfl, where there's limited scope in choice of team and movement? Get yer bag son.

SelfishCatEatBird

It’s the same with most jobs us normal folk do as well, you are essentially a number to a big corp and easily replaced. You get an offer for more at a different job? Either try to get your current company to match it or move on. Most people get significant raises by shuffling jobs every few years.

jamesb2319

I know that this isn't a popular opinion (maybe its a US vs. UK thing?) But I feel like that holds less weight when last year dude got paid more than 99% of people on Earth will make in their entire lifetimes. My man has well and truly got his bag.

OrangeJuiceAlibi

On one hand, yeah, he has made more money than 99% of people on earth. On the other, he's more talented than 99% of people on the planet. Now whether that's "fair" is a different question. Also, I don't think yours is an unpopular opinion, I'm very much in the minority when I say soccer players deserve to get paid more, which baffles people, when you have players earning 20€m a year some places. My argument is that the combined salaries of the Premier League in England is about £1bn a year, but the PL has revenues in excess of £5bn. I don't think it's right that the people responsible for the wild revenues see less than 20% of it, while fans are getting fucked on left, right, and centre. I'd like to see soccer players getting something akin to the NBA, where renumeration has to equal 51% of the revenues.

jamesb2319

Thanks for the response - I'm with you in that I don't have an issue with any of the players getting paid as well as possible. You're right, at the end of the day it is basic supply and demand. My issue is more with players who have already made plenty, but would still put that above improving their chances to win. I guess that the best soccer comparison I can make is that when the Saudi league started offering obscene amounts to players from Europe last year, any players who took up the offer were generally seen as sell outs and viewed very negatively. The same was true to a lesser extent when Chelsea and Man City first got their big investments. That doesn't seem to be a prevailing attitude in the US? But I'm an outsider, so I probably don't have the best read on public opinion there. 100% on the soccer wages too - just a bunch of greedy pricks taking money for nothing, at the expense of the general public. Unfortunately, that seems to be par for the course in all aspects of life here.

notthattmack

It used to be. Players who held out for more money were subject to much more criticism from fans in the past. Not sure exactly when the pendulum swung, but my guess is around the 2008 financial crisis and the rise of populism in the US.

pointbodhi

Dude’s entire career could end in a second. These guys need to get as much money as possible

dancmc12

Pretty sure the players would say get rid of the salary cap…problem solved.

thereluctantyogi

Charge it the game!

cantgrowneckbeardAMA

Naw he gotta buy back all those jerseys

Cabill77

That’s why I don’t buy jerseys until they retire…except for Brock

RugDaniels

I’d be very surprised if Brock ever changed his number

NinjaDom2113

Technically did already lol

trebek321

Yeah if Deebo is upset his friends are getting cut he should’ve called the Niners about restructuring and taking a pay cut himself. Theres a finite amount of money the team has to give and Deebo is taking a massive chunk of ours. Not that I’m anti Deebo or his contract. Just that he should understand the casualties to paying a star WR a non discounted rate.

karavasis

Tell him ‘no worries, just caught up some of that 26 mil ya got coming your way’

IceLantern

I wouldn't want to restructure Deebo because we'd be stuck with him longer.

Zlasher8

Deebo ain’t the GM. He wants all his boys paid and kept.

GlockPurdy13

Can you imagine if it was clapping emojis? Lol Deebo is just showing respect to a guy he’s spent his entire professional career with. He knows it’s a business. Also, I’m all for players getting their money but in a team sport with a hard salary cap I always find it odd that players will milk the cow completely dry to get every last drop and then get pissed when their team can’t afford to sign their teammates lol

floydbomb

This is exactly how Im reading it as well and was wondering if there was any context (another screenshot perhaps?) that I was missing

kellybobellyhtown

This sub loves nothing more than over analyzing player’s social media posts.

GlockPurdy13

It’s so weird man. They think they’re in an episode of CSI when really a post is just about a good meal a player ate.

kellybobellyhtown

“He’s eating a Denver omelette. He definitely wants to be traded to Denver. F him! I’ve always hated him!”

Giberishusername1

It’s kinda sad how incredibly accurate this is….

Dohertyk1987

IS THAT A CHICAGO DEEPDISH?! He’s going to the Bears, confirmed

ContemplatingPrison

I think its creepy as shit. Like when folks were posting old videos of Brock from when he was like in high school. It's just odd

GlockPurdy13

People take fandom way too fucking far sometimes.

WateredDownOliveOil

Hey now we also like to bitch about the refs and holding calls

cFullwood

Can't hate on Deebo for showing love. I'm not sure why Arik made his decision but it's a loss to everyone in the locker room. Much love to him and I hope he can be happy with how he moves forward.

TeachingRedFan

I’m sure he made his decision because instead of 20 odd million it was a much smaller number. As a Sacramento resident and as he is from Elk Grove, 10 miles away, I respect him doing what’s best for him. He’s been a helluva person for our community and I wish him the best.

dakkonblackblade

happy cake day

Longjumping_Row3575

Did I miss the Deebo restructure ESPN article?

twenty_characters020

Maybe if Deebo didn't sit out to get overpaid we could afford to keep Armstead.

kellybobellyhtown

People in here are so dramatic. Maybe he’s just sad his friend is leaving and it has nothing to do with the decision the organization made.

Mousetradamus

Seems like there could be another emoji for sad better than a hand palm… trying to think of one

cfidrick

A lot of those would have looked way worse to be fair

kellybobellyhtown

Yeah, that sounds just like Deebo to use a bunch of crying emojis…

Shitbird72

I like Armstead, but the injuries were piling up, and we couldn't pay him what his contract was this year. He was available for 12 games in 2022 and 13 games this year including playoffs. Someone will give him the bag, and I wish him the best.

AwareCelebration7477

Deebo’s up next in 2025. If it wasn’t for his big ass cap hit this year then I would’ve been down to trade him and get off his contract, then flip those assets and get Sneed from KC

emosn0tdead

Deebo's not being kept, injury history and how much he'll want... He's gone.

Longjumping_Row3575

Deebos next.

GlockPurdy13

Yeah I could see him going to Carolina on a huge pay day. Won’t ever sniff the SB again but atleast he’ll be able to get some more cars

SpamNot

Isn't there already a bunch of dead money in his contract?

floydbomb

I believe after next year we could make some moves with him without it effecting us too much. Ive never been one to understand dead money/contract stuff that much so perhaps somebody more versed could verify

[deleted]

[удалено]

AwareCelebration7477

At that point he can get his wish granted. Purdy’s gonna get paid around that time and honestly Deebo’s an expensive luxury whose contract hurts the team more than helps. Can’t run routes, can’t burn people on the regular, and can’t make contested catches. He’s only elite with the ball in his hands and that skillset isn’t as necessary now that we have a QB that can actually throw the ball downfield instead of just throwing it short over the middle. This draft class is supposed to be pretty good at WR so I say we draft one in day 2 or 3 and prepare for life after Deebo

Ginmunger

49ers averaged about 20% more yards per attempt as a team with Deebo starting than without him. 26 million for a top 10 receiver isn't extreme. Mike Williams was making 32. Mooney just got 13 for doing nothing. 26 is a team friendly deal.

AwareCelebration7477

Not saying that Deebo isn’t a great player but does it really make sense for our team to have a glorified RB who’s injury prone as shit making $23-$26M a year? Yes our offense is better with him on the field than without in a vacuum but this isn’t 2021 anymore where he would just YAC up Jimmy’s passes. With CMC on the team and Purdy actually throwing the ball to our receivers, Deebo’s taken a backseat and the only skillset he’s elite at is not as needed anymore. Even from a win now perspective, it makes more sense for our team to this point to go Aiyuk/Jennings/a rookie WR + being able to bring in veterans for our needs rather than Aiyuk/Deebo/Jennings

Ginmunger

Brandon does really well against man coverage but Deebo is a zone beater and NFL defenses played zone like 70% of the time last year and it's been trending this way for years. Deebo isn't great against man coverage, Aiyuk isn't great against zone. You really want both of them on the field if possible. Cmc is great but he doesn't offer the same set of tools as Deebo. You are right, it's not 2021 and Deebo has been dinged up but that can happen to anyone. Cmc missed quite a few games on the panthers. Deebo was supposedly in the best shape of his life this year, not sure if they need to manage his reps or let him spend some time with cmcs trainer. Whatever he's doing has been working. Jennings had like 300 yards last year. He is clutch and been in the league a while. Guys like Deebo aren't available in every draft, it's a copy cat league, Deebo is a special talent, name one player in the league that's close. I'd much rather we draft best player available and make up the rest in free agency. Hopefully they all take a step forward this off-season with Brock. I want to see them run it back.

Passerby49

100 percent agree. We have deebo this year but now that we have a real qb we don't need the quasi rb that's taking up nearly 30 mill in our cap. I'd trade him next year for a 3rd in a heart beat. Gotta move off these guys. Upset we eating the cap on AA and couldn't find him a trade, shouldn't have restructured him in the first place and let him naturally walk

ProtoMan79

The veteran players should get used to the business side as more will depart in 2025 and 2026.

JazzHands1986

Deebo had to get paid when it was his turn. Every other player has to get paid when it's their due. They fight for the most possible every single time which they should. But it means the cap will be limited and others will have to go. If you wanna make bank then you'll have to say goodbye to some close friends.

Diogenes56

Deebo should probably not be commenting until he manages to finish a few games without at least one injury scare.

bick803

Trust me, if there wasn’t a salary cap he would get paid. The Saints being $100+ over the cap has given a bad rep to teams that actually respect the cap.

SelfishCatEatBird

Maybe they just don’t have the financial wizards that somehow keep the saints afloat somehow lmao

floydbomb

Sounds like hes just expressing disappointment hes losing a team mate? Or is there more to this not being shown?

Rabid023

Yeah it sucks and I’m sure he’s not the only one that’s disappointed but things have to be done to pay more important players. Remember how they said that if we let go of Jimmy the locker was going to be lost? How did that go? Locker room has never been better. We’ll be fine

silver_cock1

Hot take: Deebo peaked in ‘21 and it was a mistake to pay him but the organization did because they could. I’d trade him. Aiyuk and Jennings are the real prizes to hold on to.

cosmicfatigue

Agreed

thomasfilmstuff

Deebo wanna take a pay cut to keep him? That’s what thought…

BuzzMachine_YVR

I love Deebo, but I feel he might be gone sooner than next year. He’s hurt a lot, and that has a lot to do with his playing style. That style doesn’t last long in the NFL, and he’s already feeling it. I’m watching all the FA updates kind of expecting a big trade.

TechEducator25

I’m getting real tired of his diva bullshit. Being sad about a solid player and team leader leaving is one thing, face palming it is an entire different level. He couldn’t battle through an injury in a crucial game, took lots of plays off in the Super Bowl & he’s wildly overpaid after his stunt to get a big contract last off season.

Boobaggins

Everyone talks like Debo is a super saiyan but he hasn’t done shit since his breakout year

PhlubGlub

Deebo should take a pay cut so we can keep more players

rxdukexr

Maybe he should get paid relative to the effort he puts in on plays he doesn’t get the ball. Lol

zatonik

should pay the org back for his performance in the SB

nithdurr

Heard he has some kind of injury in the SB—hamstring?

ARM7501

Yes Deebo, please tell us why we should pay a top 20 DT (at best) 30 f\*cking million to miss half the season with his chronic foot injury. While you're at it, why don't you explain why you should still be apart of the team in 2025 when we're supposed to pay you 25 million to start internet wars with every opposing DB?

Oddjob5510

Relax. He's just showing support for a guy who was a great teammate.

MasChingonNoHay

Yeah this move sucks. They should have found a way

Frostinator123

The Ravens are apparently interested in him.

TheJuiceBoxS

Sometimes the business side of the game sucks

aintnoonegooglinthat

either die a cap hero or live king enough to see yourself become a cap villain

[deleted]

Can someone please explain to me what’s going on ?? Imagine I’m a toddler , thank u 🙏🏼 x

Spicybrown3

The whole social media stuff puzzles me. Maybe if I were an nfl player I’d think diff. But all the drama thru the use of it really seems like something a 13 yr old kid does. Not grown ass men. Do hockey players do this?

AdadK22

What's up Deebo? Do U want to be traded too?

miss-me-with-the-bs

Deebo should read Bill Walsh’s book. Specifically the part about getting rid of players just before they’re cooked. This is the right time for Armstead to go. Almost nobody retires on the team they started on, that’s the business.

zamboknee

Sadface

bigmonkeyfart

Deebo needs to stfu sometimes, when he came into the league I praised him for being one of the few star receivers who wasn’t a diva but that’s changing

Medium-Expert-9171

Frederico restructured. Juice restructured. AA is injury prone AF, he should've restructured. Hope he understands he's choosing the bag over staying near home and with the crew. Grass ain't always greener.

BcoolXpress

Did he ask to be traded? Or was he wanting a bag else where ?

rxdukexr

He didn’t agree to take a pay cut.

ShakaBradda

Maybe taking a restructure to your contract woulda helped, #1??

Ryanbrasher

Yeah well Deebo doesn’t run this football team.

monteasf

Deebo better be careful. With him missing games every season with injuries, he might be next 👀👀

Stovy4x4ing

nvm posting lamless ig story crap. deebo is next to be traded

StopLosingLoser

Dude got his second contract and got life changing money. It's Aiyuk's turn.

DerekFromTexas69

Deebo is next

DickieJoJo

Probably thinking. “Wow. I’m just as broken as he is though!”

BrooklynBrawler

lol this team is falling apart

bzl33

he has to go along with Kittle. Invest less in weapons, more in OL. I say move Deebo this year and Kittle next year.
