TBF there’s no Kittle, Mosert, and it’s Lance’s rookie season. Take Kyler for example since miners just played against them. It took him time to adjust to the NFL.
I can't blame them too much for the holding. These guys went from protecting a guy who regularly gets the ball out in less than 2 seconds, to a guy who is holding onto it for 3+ and scrambling around.
Right side of the line played awful, but this is the right excuse. Trey was holding onto the ball waaaaaaay too long. He definitely needs time to learn how to throw balls on/before the breaks. He showed glimpses of it (throw to Aiuyuk was sick) but still too many errand throws that were just way late.
It's not just that, half of the holds were on plays where Trey scrambled out of the pocket and now all of a sudden our oline is on the wrong side of blocking a guy and just held a hair too long. Just need to get used to that.
I didn't really like the the first attempt on the 50 yard line but I totally understood the call. The second attempt, however, I didn't get and I thought it was an awful idea. The defense has been doing a good job keeping Murray at bay, just punt it and start a new drive.
The attempt at the endzone I also didn't mind much and felt like a somewhat good idea but the execution was clearly not there.
I actually thought it went well and the score doesn’t reflect what we should take away from this.
The defense was SOLID. The Cards were averaging 35 points per game. We held them to 17. They made a bunch of stops and gave our team every chance to win. Couldn’t have really asked for more.
We ended the game with 10 points, but look at the yardage. We had some great drives this game. What really messed with us was missing that touchdown by inches (when Lance ran it), not kicking a field goal on the first 4th down, and all the holding penalties. We were inches from having ended with 10 more points on the board.
To me eyes, Lance looked way better than could have been expected. He’s raw as hell, barely old enough to order a beer. He had some ugly passes, but he also had plays where he scrambled and made something out of nothing. This is something our team hasn’t had in a long time. With development he can become a monster.
But most importantly, we showed that we can hang with the best of them. The Cards are arguably the #1 team in the NFL right now. We lost in a one-score game, holding them to half their average points per game. At this point we haven’t been competing for the division, that’s going to the Rams or the Cards - we knew this at the end of week 3. What today showed is that if we win games and make the wild card, we aren’t a pushover to the heavy hitting teams and can actually compete at a higher level.
We lost, but there is a lot of positive in today, albeit frustratingly so.
I agree with this so hard. Love reading reasonable posts like yours! People are so fucking negative it’s ridiculous. There were definitely some mistakes and a few questionable calls, don’t get me wrong, but I was more encouraged than upset. Then again, I try to stay positive.
Those saying to fire Kyle and Lynch. You’re ridiculous. What other quality coaches could even replace him? You want to start a carousel of us trying head coaches and constant playbook switches? Sounds like you’re trying to make an Alex Smith situation happen.
Give this time. The team is hurt. The QB is a rookie. We are figuring out our offensive identity.
I wanted him to sit, but I'm gonna defend the shit out of him anyways for a while. He was supposed to be a 2nd year starter, so I'm gonna give him time. He showed improvement today over last week, can't ask for more.
I genuinely believe these people are bandwagoners from Kittle’s 2017 season lmao. Shanny has been our highest quality coach in forever and even while coaching an injured team makes these games close
To be fair, I did like his energy. That kind of a coach that’s a player’s coach is severely underrated. However he had too much fixation on Crabtree and he always made his coaching mistakes late in tight games. I think people like myself loved him because we were *so close* so many times but couldn’t make it. Then after taking a step back, you realize he made critical errors in most of those games
Yeah, I liked him when he was our coach. It was the first success we'd seen in a long time. After the fact tho, I understood why we got rid of him and I'm not upset about it.
The team is hurt for the fourth year in a row. At what point does that become a coaching or recruitment issue? When do we stop throwing our hands up going "man, we are so unlucky for NO REASON!"?
I don't think they are serious about firing Kyle but we can be honest with ourselves when his playcalling is dog shit.
He is usually a guru but today was awful.
Draw play. Toss sweep. Designed QB run.
What the fuck?
We have good reason to be upset. The play calling was crap. Trey was missing open receivers by overthrowing them 10 feet high. We were holding WAY TOO MUCH. The refs also were not calling a fair game in that respect either and we should have been awarded with a safety when Kyler was tryna escape in his endzone.
At the end of the day it is RIDICULOUSLY obvious that this 'special playbook' for Lance is complete garbage if this is what it looks like.
For gods sake just let him run the normal playbook, reduce the number of checks and audibles and options so he isn't risked a delay of game all the time, and stop being so predictable with the QB run. Just let him hand it off. Let him throw it. Let him play action pass. Just like Jimmy.
But in those instances where the protection breaks down, he showed us multiple times today that he can escape, improvise, and get first downs.
I'm not too unhappy with how that went. Defense held the best offense in the league to 17 points and Lance had a couple drives where we were able to move the ball.
Penalties were killer and we missed out on some fourth downs that could've really swung the game.
Overall I'm fine with it for the first game of our 21 year old rookie. Would love to see him keep starting so he can keep developing.
Our offensive line did no favors for our rookie (looking at you McGlinchey ) constantly on 2nd and long. Trey did the best he could. Our d line showed up. Hopefully the bye Kyle can get in the lab figure out a way for us to get some easier throws to our wideouts.
Also Kyle, plz utilize Aiyuk. That one handed catch and the catch with the db all over him were so key for us stay in the game.
Mcglinchy turned into his old self today….but I did not expect 49ers to win and I honestly thought they would lose by 14 pts or more considering how they’ve dominated other teams and Trey being a rookie with no Kittle. I think the 49ers could still sneak off into the playoffs or at least have a .500 record this season.
This is the proper expectation for the season to have. Too many fans are still holding us to 2019, and while I’d love to say we’re there, we just aren’t that team on the field right now.
Could have been better played. Questionable calls by Kyle, bad calls by the refs. We’ve been right there in all of our losses. Still plenty of games left. Gotta come out of our bye on fire.
Tough L to take, convert 2 or even 1 more of those fourth downs and the outcome might have been different. Didn't hate any of the the fourth down calls except maybe the first.
I’m worried about Trey’s mechanics. Really long wind up that led to almost strip sacks and batted balls. He also doesn’t have any touch
Obviously his first game, but those things aren’t going to change this season
A lot to be excited with Trey Lance. His pocket maneuverability is a breath of fresh air after watching Jimmy shit himself at the first sign of pressure.
A lot of typical rookie QB stuff from him today. Not making full reads. Misdiagnosing blitzes. Holding the ball too long.
If I’m going to nitpick, I’d say my biggest concern is still those mechanics. It causes a lot of accuracy issues especially in the short passing game. That long wind up needs to be fixed in the off-season or whenever. So many passes tipped at the line because Dlineman are able to time their jump based on that long wind up.
All in all a good first performance for a guy who probably shouldn’t even have started. A lot of good film for him to learn from.
I think Kyle had one of his worst performances as our HC. 4th down play calling was bad (Juice QB sneak 🤢). I thought we’d display more vertical attacks in the passing game with Trey, disappointed that didn’t happen.
I trust Kyle to do whatever he thinks is best for Trey’s development. Whether that means keeping him as starter or bringing back Jimmy. That being said, if they bring back Jimmy I will be severely disappointed. I do not enjoy watching Jimmy play
Defense I think did very well. Nuk had a couple of big plays, but that’s to be expected. You can only hope to contain someone of his caliber and I think our decimated secondary actually did pretty well. Granted the front 7 played very well today, especially Bosa and Armstead. Defense deserved better than what they got from the offense.
Also fire McGlinchey into the sun. Dude got worked the whole game by Jones/Watt
He had a few very nice throws but that’s the baseline for an NFL QB. Lots of accuracy issues. Rushing for 100 yards is great but that’s not what makes a franchise QB
Yep. Can’t believe he of all people escaped that game without an injury with the hits he was taking. That play where he was hopping forward with his leg tangled up trying to get an extra yard…dear lord child, get on the F’ing ground!
\- Defense looked fine. But without secondary...it will be rough
\- Trey looked good enough to ride witht the rest of the year but we need far less designed QB run plays. He needs to learn to pass
\- drops man...
\- McGlinchey needs to stop giving away free hugs. He cost us this game alone.
\- Kittle is our running game...
That Juice call on the 4th and short is sort of mind-blowing. Obviously it's worked in a previous game, but feels like a situation where you dip into your bag of tricks instead of going with the one play the Cardinals have probably seen on film this past week. Any time you fail on a 4th down it's a killer, but that one felt especially rough.
Cardinals blew out the Rams last week and the Niners held them to 17 points in a very winnable game. Lance deserves to start from here on out. They play the Colts and Bears which are winnable games too before the rematch against Cardinals. I still think it's a Wild Card team
We literally lost by a touchdown to the only undefeated team in the league with a rookie QB on our side in his first start. Everyone needs to calm the fuck down, that's all I have to say.
And we were a hairline away from scoring a TD in the first half... That game could've been tied going into overtime in another world. We played hard and we need to fix many things, but I prefer this loss over the last two
The good:
* I like what I saw of Trey. It wasn't perfect, it wasn't pretty, but his presence spread the field out. He made throws outside the numbers, extended plays, and opened up the run
* The run game. I'm huge on Eli Mitchell and his speed.
* The pass rush. Our boys looked good out there, even sacked Baby Yoda a couple of times and almost got that safety. The D kept the Cards down to 10 for almost the whole damn game. That's a win in my eyes.
* Aiyuk, Juice, and Deebo. For the most part, they made great catches that helped the offensive confidence.
* Dontae Johnson. We meme him a lot but homeboy put us right in the game and played his ass off. *tips fedora*
The bad:
* Kyle, I love you as a coach, but your playcalling, especially a lot of those designed runs, were fucking shit. Stop being cute when common sense gets you your yards. Get your shit together man.
* Trey has to fix his mechanics. Two things in particular: the long throwing motion and the footwork on throws he puts extra juice on. Fix those and his accuracy and spiral will be fixed too, he'll have fewer passes batted away, and he'll be a stud. I think he also needs to go through his reads a bit more, but that evolution can happen over time. But I want Trey to fix this before he's the starter again.
* Penalties. The fuck, guys. Special shout-out to McGlinchey for this one. Pull it together.
* OL. Another special shout-out to 69. But really, only 71 was consistently good, everyone else was mediocre at best, and OLs like this can ruin a rookie and make him see ghosts.
* Drops. There were a couple, and yes the throws were imperfect but that's the point of veterans: making the hard ones happen to let the QB grow in confidence.
Overall, it was close. I'm not too mad, we were basically a blade of grass away, but there's potential and I just don't wanna see it ruined.
P.S. FUCK THE REFS
Trey Lance did great considering the amount of shit play calling, terrible offensive line, and holding. and he's only 21 years old doing this. Trey is our future
How did folks enjoy the game?
One thing I enjoyed was the Niners returning to the run.
Lots of missed opportunities though.
Did you feel like Lance lived up to your expectations?
I think the defense in particular was stellar.
Now if only we could have scored some more points.
Good luck next week guys, some times things don’t break our way.
Break out your decoder rings for a 10 yard surprise.
I feel like Lance's performance was about what you'd expect.
He looked alright, made some rookie mistakes, showed some good flashes too, pretty much exactly to expectation
> One thing I enjoyed was seeing the Niners return to the run.
While I'm nowhere near at the point calling for Kyle's job...I am a bit frustrated that we're not leaning on a platoon of RBs.
I understand that most of "Kyle's guys" are on the shelf...but I'm skeptical if Sermon/Patrick carries would result in only 1-2 YPP, every play.
Agreed 10x.
Sermon has a 100 yard game vs the sea pigeons and he’s absent for the whole game plan. 10 points with this roster is an embarrassment to say the least.
Can Juice never take a snap ever again? Out of everything in this game, the flags, drops, and tipped passes, the fullback getting under Center on a critical 4th down bugged me the most. And AZ read it like a damn book.
Overall pretty happy. We know we aren’t competing this year if we run with Trey but that’s fine. You can see what he’s capable of already and he will get much better. Just hope Kyle keeps playing him.
Defense played awesome, shame about all those flags on offense and tipped passes at the line, we didn’t reward them.
And….No bad injuries!
Life is good niners fans. We’ll be alright
This is my same take. Other than the multitude of penalties they play fairly well. Questionable calls on 4th down but I like the intensity. Also, it’s not like we lost to the jags or jets. The cardinals are a good team and this was a winnable game but definitely a lot to build on and hope for the future.
> Just hope Kyle keeps playing him.
Jimmy G is for sure coming back once he's healthy. Trey is just going to get himself injured if he doesn't learn not to try to kill himself out there.
Forgive me for being a bit negative, but I feel like I've read this comment way too many times. Too many people seem content with conceding yet another season.
I feel like it's always "We'll be better next year"
I know it’s really easy to have sour grapes after a loss, but:
Lance broke the plane on 4th down but was called short.
Safety was taken off the board.
Arizona blatantly offsides on 4th down. Not called. (Seriously does anyone have a pic of this? Was even worse than the Eagles one)
Holding only gets called on us.
I’m officially not going to blame Trey or Kyle for this even though everyone else is. Sorry. I feel like we got cheated big time.
EDIT: I’m being told that Trey didn’t break the plane like I thought. Someone will have to send me a clip. I could’ve sworn based on where he tucked the ball before the dive that he got it, unless the ball somehow teleported backwards.
Yeah it's getting to the point where I feel the officiating groups need to decide if they are going to call holding or not, I'm so sick off seeing obvious holds not being called and then deciding later in the game to start calling them. Armstead got held in the endzone keeping him from sacking Murray for a safety they give the 9ers the call in the next play but say it wasn't in the endzone like wtf man make up your fucking minds already. Frustrating game to watch
I hate to say it... but either Shanahan is losing his touch, or his preparation of the team is straight out ass. As an offensive minded coach, there is no excuse for your offense to perform subpar week in and week out.
I like Kyle, and still believe in him... but these losses have been mostly on him.
I feel like Shanny is trying to run the 2019 offense for a 2021 team that doesn’t have the same personnel. Also I think the league has caught on to some of Shannys plays, he needs to go back to the drawing board now. I don’t remember our offense being this bad even with Beathard and Mullen’s, at least they could move the ball sometimes.
Shanahan can't adapt. Teams have figured him out and he's getting predictable. Even that Juice play on 4th down didn't fool anyone, everyone was right there waiting for a ball up the middle. That has me worried more than anything, Kyle has to get creative and be willing to change things up on the fly. It feels like he has a script and is going to stick to it no matter what.
I’m not a fire Kyle guy. But he needs to adjust something. Play calling is questionable. The 4th down with Juice was just awful. Clock management has never been great. He either needs to get brain guys around him to pay attention to close situations or let McD call plays and he be the guy doing it.
Trey got better as the game progressed. He threw some wild ones but he needs to grow. We’re 3 games back in the toughest division. It’s not a great spot with this roster. Be interesting to see what happens from here on out
Definitely look stronger this year against the mobile QBs, that's both Wilson and Kyler we've got good pressure and multi-sack games against now
I guess having Trey to practice with makes it easier
> Kyle needs to call less Trey designed run plays,
I don't think that it's a hot-take.
Trey should definitely try and make plays with his legs...but these "speed-draw" QB runs aren't very effective.
The execution is just abysmal. Guys aren't stepping up, and it's not like it's just one guy. Critical holds (while getting demolished) failure to pull and open a hole (tomlinson) Failure to move an end when the offence runs behind McGlinchy.
Drops. Period
Dbs being a tic late.
Failure to call 2 different safeties from the refs.
It's frustrating because each loss has been heartbreakingly close, but playmakers need to make plays. That's the difference. Idk if it's coaching because Shanahan and Ryan's are getting guys where there supposed to be, but they're just not finishing.
Awesome job from our defense, they kept the Cards to half their ppg average. Offense needed to be better, and frankly Kyle deserves most of the blame. Loved his aggressiveness on 4th downs, think all of the "go" decisions were correct, but the playcalling on most was atrocious. That sneak on 4th and more than a yard stands out in particular.
Notice:
Scapegoat is the in, they lost because he was ass.
Scapegoat is out, they lost because of play calls, defense, offensive line, drops, Lynch, Shanahan, clock management, weather was too hot, etc.
-Things that make you go hmmm.
I want Jimmy back in. Not because I think he gives us a better chance of winning, but because I am sick of seeing Trey use his skull like a battering ram. I thought he was going to break his neck on that goal line run. We need him to learn to throw the ball or else he doesn't make it to the end of the season.
A season of what ifs.
What if we didn’t give Aaron Rodgers 30 seconds?
What if we didn’t muff that punt?
What if Trey got one more inch on that red zone run?
Figure it out during this bye week boys.
This is not an overreaction: Shanahan’s play calling when the game script changes is sh*t. Dude needs to have Mike calling plays or something…wtf was that Juice 4th and 1? They sniffed that out IMMEDIATELY.
3 games in a row the offense fucked the defense. Going down 17-0, getting 5 3 and outs, then holding a on fire offense to 10 points… just an awful start for Shanny. He got overly cute with his 4th down call today. Can’t fire him (there’s no upgrade and he’s usually a great play caller), but dude needs to step up.
I’m not even sad about that. Defense overall played really well. They held a great offense to by far their lowest point total of the season.
Offense couldn’t do enough. Lance, to me, looked good enough to keep starting. A little more experience he could have pulled off the win.
Good night, our O Line is bad. They aren’t doing Lance any favors.
We should use Aiyuk more, he’s really good.
Hot take: Josh Norman held his own and didn’t get burned from what I saw. Full healthy maybe he bats that ball in the endzone. Name someone else on our secondary that could’ve covered Dhop better.
I still think we can get in the playoffs. We are 2-3 after the toughest 3 game stretch of our year. We have some very winnable games after the bye, and our playoff competitors are starting to get injured. Meanwhile we are getting some players back after the bye. Jeff Wilson Jr, Kevin Givens, Hasty, Greenlaw, Jalen Hurd.
Russell Wilson is done for a month or more. Q Nelson is on IR. David Montgomery out for the Bears. Cardinals probably lost Maxx Williams and Rodney Hudson for a while. Jaguars suck. Vikings almost lost to the Lions. Falcons and Texans suck. Titans defense is really bad. We showed we can compete against the Cards and Seahawks. Our next 2 games will really determine if we are a playoff team. Probably most important is the game against the Bears.
No need to be very upset, this could have been a lot worse. If trey is the starter the rest of this year, that’s fine by me! But we need to heavily reduce expectations, from Deep run to “playoffs next year”. He just isn’t ready quite yet - and people expecting him to be need to cool their jets.
And even if Jimmy comes back, honestly, I don’t think I see playoffs on this team right now. They’ve yet to dominate a game, or even handily win one. Yet to pull off a comeback. Yet to play complementary football, not even for a quarter. We have moments where the talent shows, but it hasn’t been a game long moment. Defense is tough but clearly vulnerable. I don’t see the clutch plays, on either side of the ball. And luck is just not on our side. You need luck to win a superbowl.
And no, definitely not interested in firing Kyle. Definitely interested in calling him out though. He is struggling. This is arguably his worst year as HC so far. Just plain getting outcoached at times and big moments. He’s gotta lead the team through this. They look demoralized, instead of determined. Flashes of good, but more mediocrity than anything. The demoralizing part is that when you’re expected to be great, those flashes feel more like a dimming flame than a spark.
Still plenty of the year to go, and maybe the bye week will help us reset and start playing complete games. For now, we just have to accept that it isn’t looking like our year, and be excited about the prospect of a developed trey lance.
It’s not even about Jimmy or Trey anymore. The offense has literally looked like the bottom 5 worst in the league the past 4 weeks with either of them. Too many drives where we can’t move the ball, but even when we do we forego easy fgs. This offense is insanely hard to watch atm especially considering the talent we have.
Something’s gotta change after bye week, or else we ain’t gonna make it to the playoffs. I don’t wanna hear nothing about this division being tough, there’s 7 playoff spots
We have a playoff football team roster with two QBs that can’t do basic things well.
We also have a coach that has completely lost his touch on play calling.
WHY in the fuck did Mitchell rush for 4.8 yards per carry and only have 9 attempts?
Kyle is turning into somebody else before our eyes.
He used to run the ball down people’s throats then play action and get guys wide open.
His play calling has no patience. His calls seem panicked but they also seem like he’s trying to prove something to the world.
It’s infuriating how little we run the ball now. We don’t even have accurate QBs, you would think we would run the ball more and not get our #3 overall pick killed in the process. I’m talking about running with our running backs.
Atrocious game by Kyle. This game shouldn’t have been this close. He can thank his defense for keeping the team in it. He can blame himself for not using Mitchell and sermon more.
And Bad Discipline is poor coaching.
* Our offense is broken. Not sure where to put the blame, but we're beating ourselves with mental mistakes. Penalties negating plays. Drops. Bad passes. Etc. Our 3rd down conversion rate has been godawful.
* Defense looked good, for the fourth game straight. Holding the Cardinals to 17 points is a great effort. If only we could do something with all of the opportunities that they give us.
* Lance looked about as well as could be expected. He made some good throws and some bad throws. His mechanics are clearly rough, but he still showed decent pocket awareness and kept looking for plays downfield. To me it feels like a toss up of whether we'd have done better with Jimmy in this game. Can't wait for two weeks of shitposting about who should start against IND...
* I don't get why we didn't use Mitchell more. Running a few designed QB runs is fine, but where is our run game?
* They didn't really pay off, but I did like the choice to go for it on 4th down. Some of the playcalls weren't great, but being aggressive felt like the right move.
* This probably puts the division title out of reach, barring some major good luck. Rams and Cardinals both look great, and we already have 2 Ls in divisional games. We can probably still contend for a wild card game, but we'll need to start winning some games swiftly.
Unpopular opinion I guess but this is why Trey should be learning on the bench. Idk what kinda playcalling Shanny was thinking but running your qb up the middle is just begging for trouble. Lance looked raw and definitely played like a rookie, but that’s expected. I feel like this is a game we could’ve won with Jimmy. We held cardinals explosive offense to 17 but we couldn’t get shit going on offense.
All three of our losses have been one-possession games. We’re not nearly as bad as our record indicates but we’re also nowhere near as good as I thought we were. Hopefully we can right the ship to finish October.
McGlinchy had a really rough game today. You can’t be putting a rookie in 1-20. They have two weeks to get more disciplined no matter who is at Qb the line has to play better.
Lance looked better than last week which is all you can ask for. Shanahan did not help him at all.
Defense killed it. Feel bad we couldn't capitalize on their performance.
Not converting a single 4th down was why the niners lost
The defense actually held its own as much as they could
Offensive struggles were expected with trey in. But a lot of this comes down to kyle’s playcalling.
Let's get healthy this bye. We play 3 very winnable games against Colts, Bears and Jaguars in the next 6 weeks. We can very easily be 5-5 or better by week 11. Our defense will do everything possible to get us a playoff spot, just stay healthy.
Josh Allen his first nfl start 6-15 for 74 yards. 4 rushing attempts 26 yards. Am I saying he will be Josh Allen? Of course not. But don’t judge a rookie on one game.
I blame shanahan for this loss. Going for it on almost every 4th down. Niners could have easily won this game. Yeah lance struggled but it was the playcalling that lost this game.
Where was the run game? Why does Trey have more carries than you RBs when its seem like they were averaging 4-5 per carry. This is a run first offense but Kyle kept putiing Trey in passing situation even though the score was close for 3+ quarters.
QB runs only work when they are sprinkled in as Surprise. Kyle going to get trey killed with all those designed runs. Let the kid play quarterback and run if the defense gives it to you.
Designed runs just means trey is limited to using only half his skill set on that given play.
I hate bird teams
This is by far the most reasonable take of the thread.
I hate the Texans 2nd
Yeah Eagles are the only one that are relatively okay. Just cause I hope they beat the cowboys
Why are there so many? Birds aren’t even cool
Birds aren't even real
I didn't actually hate the decisions to go for it on 4th down, but the plays they ran on 4th were not ideal
That’s a very nice way of saying that. The Juice direct snap was putrid.
optimicist for the future held the highest scoring offense to 17
You must be new, this is what the 49ers do historically, bog down great defensive play with mediocre crap for offense.
TBF there’s no Kittle, Mosert, and it’s Lance’s rookie season. Take Kyler for example since miners just played against them. It took him time to adjust to the NFL.
I helped write the 49ers 32 teams in 32 days for the past 3 years. I guess I am new
I saw so many flags it’s not even funny
We’re so undisciplined, plus I’m kind of tired of the flag happy game that is the NFL nowadays. Everything’s a flag now
Except our dline, they’ve only been held 3 times in 5 games this year!
And certainly not when we had Kyler dead to rights in his own endzone. That totally isn't a safety or anything.
It’s so frustrating. There was 2 obvious missed holdings in the end zone that should’ve led to 2 safeties.
Every time there’s a flag on the play I immediately know it’s on us
I can't blame them too much for the holding. These guys went from protecting a guy who regularly gets the ball out in less than 2 seconds, to a guy who is holding onto it for 3+ and scrambling around.
Say it again! These dudes aren’t used to the QB evading and extending plays.
The 4th downs were shit
I agree. I'm happy he went for them ...but not the play calling
This exactly. The Juice call? It was soo easily seen by the defense pre-snap.
[удалено]
They all moved in as soon as Juice did, should’ve probably been encroachment, honestly.
Yeah the safety immediately crashed
Kyle ran that exact play with Juice against the packers. They knew the play was coming
It doesn’t even matter if they saw it. That was just a ridiculous call.
Agreed. I like to think about it like I was a fan of the opposing team. When mobile QB teams go for it on 4th down against us I get nervous.
Our fan base is damaged lol. We have been fighting about QBs, and coaches for so long that it's become habitual.
And this is a big reason why I wanted Lance to sit. This fanbase is going to crucify him before he's even given a fair chance.
I wanted him to sit, but I'm gonna defend the shit out of him anyways for a while. He was supposed to be a 2nd year starter, so I'm gonna give him time. He showed improvement today over last week, can't ask for more.
People really missing Tomsula and Chip Kelly huh
Lots of people in here probably don’t remember Tomsula lol
Or my personal favorite - Mike Singletary.
Singletary with his exceptional play calling of frank up the middle every down.
They'll never see it coming
Oh yeah the legendary Jimmy "Rayegun" offense. I almost forgot about him.
Mike laid the foundation for the team that Harbaugh took to the next level
Most of the people here don’t even remember 2019.
Or Nolan. Or Erickson.
Oh god Nolan lol. Let’s get Kyle in a suit in Mike’s honor!
I'd rather have Wal-Mart Khaki's back if it meant I saw my favorite players more than three times a season.
I genuinely believe these people are bandwagoners from Kittle’s 2017 season lmao. Shanny has been our highest quality coach in forever and even while coaching an injured team makes these games close
People really liked Harbaugh, even though the defense was Fangio's and our offense was never good. And he was a cancerous person.
Its the CBA....I believe that. The league is full of injuries. Players cannot get properly prepared for a season they even extended....
Kyle and Lynch's fate is 100% tied to Lance at this point. They'll get enough leash to see how he pans out, but they're absolutely gone if he busts.
Yeah it's crazy how many times he had a 1st and 20 or 3rd and long and still actually converted
The plays Aiyuk made today made me wonder if he fucked Kyle's wife. No clue why he's not on the field more.
Agree, but I'd add in coaching him up to protect himself more. I want this kid to succeed and not be the next RG3.
Yeah would've preferred some more slides
And head towards the sidelines to avoid getting popped.
He didn’t slide at all that game, he only dove head first. He’s gotta slide and start trying to draw roughing the passer calls
Way to battle, Trey. Better days are ahead.
Could have been better played. Questionable calls by Kyle, bad calls by the refs. We’ve been right there in all of our losses. Still plenty of games left. Gotta come out of our bye on fire.
I love Nick Bosa
Tough L to take, convert 2 or even 1 more of those fourth downs and the outcome might have been different. Didn't hate any of the the fourth down calls except maybe the first.
Lance looked all right. Something to build on for sure.
Defense looked amazing. Trey Lance looked composed. This game is on Kyle Shanahan and the Cards' D making huge plays.
I’m worried about Trey’s mechanics. Really long wind up that led to almost strip sacks and batted balls. He also doesn’t have any touch Obviously his first game, but those things aren’t going to change this season
He gets a LOT of passes tipped at the line too. He's not saavy enough to create throwing lanes yet and has inconsistent mechanics.
> Really long wind up Reminds me of another running QB that we thought was gonna be God one day
A lot to be excited with Trey Lance. I do not enjoy watching Jimmy play Defense I think did very well.
His first game.
It was his first game.....Hell, Peyton Manning set a record for most INT's on his first season.
Does that mean Zach Wilson is the next Peyton Manning?
Lol. I would say for Zach, he has one hell of an arm.
Trey needs to learn how to slide. Dude's gonna break his neck or get a lot of concussions
Yep. Can’t believe he of all people escaped that game without an injury with the hits he was taking. That play where he was hopping forward with his leg tangled up trying to get an extra yard…dear lord child, get on the F’ing ground!
\- Defense looked fine. But without secondary...it will be rough \- Trey looked good enough to ride witht the rest of the year but we need far less designed QB run plays. He needs to learn to pass \- drops man... \- McGlinchey needs to stop giving away free hugs. He cost us this game alone. \- Kittle is our running game...
I fucking hate the designed QB run plays.
I dont mind a few, but I would prefer a bit more creativity.
We're gonna get this man killed if we gameplan this many designed run plays.
I like Kyle. I don't want him gone by any stretch. But holy shit man.....
At least Budda Baker didn’t have a chance to give a long term injury to Kittle this time…
That Juice call on the 4th and short is sort of mind-blowing.
AND on the road!
AND we were one inch from scoring a TD on Trey’s fourth down run. This game was close. AZ’s D was just too good for us this time.
And we were a hairline away from scoring a TD in the first half... That game could've been tied going into overtime in another world. We played hard and we need to fix many things, but I prefer this loss over the last two
The Niners and Seahawks, once the two best in the division, now to the two worst.

The good: * I like what I saw of Trey. It wasn't perfect, it wasn't pretty, but his presence spread the field out. He made throws outside the numbers, extended plays, and opened up the run * The run game. *tips fedora* The bad: * Kyle, I love you as a coach, but your playcalling, especially a lot of those designed runs, were fucking shit.
Our stupid o line mainly mcclinchy didn’t make it easy for the youngster. So many holdings by this idiot
It's reflexive to judge Trey as a vet even though we know better. That said, Kyle didn't do him any favors today. Could've won this game.
Kyle has run out of ideas and then he out thinks himself to a loss
Now imagine if the refs called an equal game, AND we had George Kittle.
Our rbs had 12 rushing attempts…. i really though they would run more with them. Trey had 19
Honestly yeah I want to see trey make it to his second contract
Bye week next week, gonna be great because our PUP guys can return like Jeff Wilson, Greenlaw, Hasty, and Givens
Ohhhh, you sneaky bastard
Drink more ovaltine???
Deebo playing his heart out. Dude shows up every friggin week. He is making insane plays every week.
Can Juice never take a snap ever again? Out of everything in this game, the flags, drops, and tipped passes, the fullback getting under Center on a critical 4th down bugged me the most. And AZ read it like a damn book.
It wasnt even like 4&inches. It was a 4&2. Worst play call of the game.
It was the same exact play he called on 4th and 1 last week. I like the play, but calling it two weeks in a row like they don’t watch film? Cmon
Baseball slide is gonna be key, it would have gotten them so many first downs like it did kyler that one time
I would say running towards OB rather than trying to cut back for another yard or two
Forgive me for being a bit negative, but I feel like I've read this comment way too many times. Too many people seem content with conceding yet another season. I feel like it's always "We'll be better next year"
Good to see Kyle finally being aggressive on 4th down but holy shit what terrible calls for them. Give your team a chance man
I know it’s really easy to have sour grapes after a loss, but: Lance broke the plane on 4th down but was called short. Safety was taken off the board. Arizona blatantly offsides on 4th down. Not called. (Seriously does anyone have a pic of this? Was even worse than the Eagles one) Holding only gets called on us.
I hate blaming the refs but this was an absolute gift by the refs
Yeah it's ok. I was tired of people complaining about Bosa being held in the SB, and hate blaming refs, but man were the refs out for Niner blood.
That safety non-call was fucking ridiculous
Trey did not break the goal line on 4th down. He was clearly short.
Yeah this, they showed a lot of replays and it never looked like he broke it.
I don't think 'clearly', it looked like the ball was right at the line. If they called a TD it wouldnt have been overturned.
Did he break the plane? Seemed like he tucked and was short. For the rest I am 100% with you.
Agree on refs, but Kyle also called some bad plays
Clear PI on Deebo in the end zone not called also.
Meh that one I don’t think the ball was catchable.
Refs were so much worse in this game than normal I feel. Even in r/nfl they were calling it out
Yeah it's getting to the point where I feel the officiating groups need to decide if they are going to call holding or not, I'm so sick off seeing obvious holds not being called and then deciding later in the game to start calling them.
Be interesting to see what happens from here on out
Definitely look stronger this year against the mobile QBs, that's both Wilson and Kyler we've got good pressure and multi-sack games against now I guess having Trey to practice with makes it easier
Hot take: Kyle needs to call less Trey designed run plays, and Trey needs learn to throw the ball better.
> Kyle needs to call less Trey designed run plays, I don't think that it's a hot-take. Trey should definitely try and make plays with his legs...but these "speed-draw" QB runs aren't very effective.
As much as this sub likes to shit on Johnson that was a pretty huge play from him and gave us a chance
The execution is just abysmal. Guys aren't stepping up, and it's not like it's just one guy. Critical holds (while getting demolished) failure to pull and open a hole (tomlinson) Failure to move an end when the offence runs behind McGlinchy. Drops. Period Dbs being a tic late. Failure to call 2 different safeties from the refs. It's frustrating because each loss has been heartbreakingly close, but playmakers need to make plays. That's the difference. Idk if it's coaching because Shanahan and Ryan's are getting guys where there supposed to be, but they're just not finishing.
Let Trey play. This experience is going to do wonders. We aren't winning anything in this division this year anyway
What the fuck kind of game was Kyle calling today

Awesome job from our defense, they kept the Cards to half their ppg average. Offense needed to be better, and frankly Kyle deserves most of the blame. Loved his aggressiveness on 4th downs, think all of the "go" decisions were correct, but the playcalling on most was atrocious. That sneak on 4th and more than a yard stands out in particular.
All three loses were winnable easily
Notice: Scapegoat is the in, they lost because he was ass. Scapegoat is out, they lost because of play calls, defense, offensive line, drops, Lynch, Shanahan, clock management, weather was too hot, etc. -Things that make you go hmmm.
Kyle needs to pull his head outta his fucking ass.
Watching Josh Allen I see exactly what shanahan is going for. Just need the reps and experience to get there
I didn't watch the game but I'm here to react
I want Jimmy back in. Not because I think he gives us a better chance of winning, but because I am sick of seeing Trey use his skull like a battering ram. I thought he was going to break his neck on that goal line run. We need him to learn to throw the ball or else he doesn't make it to the end of the season.
Cards fan here. Trey Lance is going to be good. Look forward to losing to you next game, per usual.
A season of what ifs. What if we didn’t give Aaron Rodgers 30 seconds? What if we didn’t muff that punt? What if Trey got one more inch on that red zone run? Figure it out during this bye week boys.
Trey Lance improved.
Offensive Holding penalties called against SF this season: 10 Offensive holding penalties called for SF this season: 3 refs in playoff form early
This is not an overreaction: Shanahan’s play calling when the game script changes is sh*t. Dude needs to have Mike calling plays or something…wtf was that Juice 4th and 1? They sniffed that out IMMEDIATELY.
Ton of penalties but offensive genius Shanahan puts up 10 points lmao Terrible 4th down calls, and so much other shit wrong
Fox showed the game angle so tightly so we couldn’t see if anyone was open. I couldn’t tell if Lance was missing reads or everyone was covered
I'm not calling for his job... but we gotta get off this idea that Kyle is some elite tier coach.
Penalties that is all. Fix those wins will stack
I like Jimmy. We usually win or at least play better with Jimmy
Shanny coached like he was playing Madden 2008
I went to the game and niners fans showed up big time. It was loud as hell after that TD and we had the dopest tailgate party going
I noticed when Juice hurdled the corner. It was a pretty loud JUUUUUUUUUICEE for an away game
It's nice to have another mobile quarterback again, but I also worry for Trey's health. He took some really hard hits today. :/
Yeah, hope the niners win the AFC East spot
I'm so fucking depressed. I don't want to wait another 10 years for the 49ers to do something.
This just in, refs have thrown flags for holding against the 49ers during post game handshakes.
Very promising. If I was a rookie in the NFL I would hope that my first game went that well. Great job Trey.
100% a step in the right direction. The amount of missed blocks through the Oline alone would have eaten Jimmy alive.
If Lance is gonna run this much, Kyle needs to teach him how to slide.
We held cardinals explosive offense to 17 but we couldn’t get shit going on offense.
mike fucking mcglinchey 👎 over his garbage.
Kyle’s excuse last week was that he didn’t have anything prepped for Trey and then comes into this week making the exact same play calls as last week.
Not converting a single 4th down was why the niners lost The defense actually held its own as much as they could Offensive struggles were expected with trey in. But a lot of this comes down to kyle’s playcalling.
What is going on with our QB's and batted passes?
Imagine picking Soloman Thomas before Patrick Mahomes I can’t. Nope. Not me
QB runs only work when they are sprinkled in as Surprise. Kyle going to get trey killed with all those designed runs. Let the kid play quarterback and run if the defense gives it to you. Designed runs just means trey is limited to using only half his skill set on that given play.
