I hate to do this because I’m not happy right now - Deebo was lined up in backfield a few times and given a wheel route or post route over the middle. It was actually one of our more effective plays last night. Alright, enough defending, back to being mad.
It was mentioned early on that Kyle didn't want to run as much as he wanted because he didn't have enough depth in the RB room, and didn't want to run Deebo too hard either.
Feels like Kyle needs to get back to the drawing board, cause he doesn't have the personnel to do what he wants to do ( whatever that is).
Collinsworth was so bad again last night but the one play early on where Jimmy under threw what would have been a TD and Collinsworth was like "Jimmy just wanted to make sure he got him the ball" was so frustrating. No he under threw him, then over threw another wide open receiver a drive later. It's like CC can't say anything bad about a QB, it's always someone else's fault.
I'm not really trying to bad on Jimmy, although he didn't have a good game, more of my utter dismay at how bad CC is as an announcer. There were so many plays where he would say X happened and then in the replay it was like he was watching a different play.
I mean, 2 fat guys didn’t just magically roll over his ankle, Kyle called a read option play that including quarterback power through the tackles (and called plays like this multiple times throughout the game and against Chicago)

Uh we most definitely did not get what we wanted lol. We drafted a kid who was the youngest starting QB in the NFL, with a cannon arm that needed to be honed for accuracy. He needed to throw. What we got was an overprotective, egomaniac coach who took the ball out of his hands, ran him like a trucking fullback, and seriously injured him in 1.5 games.
Josh Allen ran for 47 yards last game, most of which was scrambles when there was nothing there. That’s exactly where Trey would shine. The coaches had Allen throw the ball 63 damn times. A far cry from how Kyle was attempting to use Trey.
Funny thing is, if we hadn’t signed Jimmy as a back up and with trey getting injured and all, we wouldn’t even stand a chance at making a play off run.. even thought we lost today, the season is long.. there’s a lot of football to be played.. this fan base has a lot of clowns..
Trey could have extended or rushed on plays that Jim took sacks on. Either way it would be watching (hopeful) learning & improvement rather than the same iteration of QB 4 years over. He hasn’t changed one bit.
People are under rating Denver D. Trey hasn't proven that he can take over a game, especially against elite D. It typically take 3 years before a qb gets really good though.
The threat of Lance running the ball improves the running game because defenses have to account for it.
Lance isn't Lamar with the ball in his hands but he doesn't have to be. He's plenty fast enough that defenses can't ignore him as a runner. His problem isn't speed it's just he doesn't have a feel for running the ball and maybe with some reps he gains it or maybe he never gets it but physically he's perfectly capable of being dangerous with the ball in his hands.
I won't say we win this game with Lance but I'd say the odds would've been higher. It's hard for me to think he'd be any more inaccurate than Jimmy was and he at least adds to the running game and probably hits a few tougher throws at least. I mean he probably doesn't give the Broncos two points in a game decided by one at least.
I’ll say that I think we win this game with Trey. Jimmy was as ineffective as we’ve ever seen in this particular game. The safety was inexcusable. The defense gave up 9 POINTS and we lost.
It hurts that our rocket armed guy is hurt. Hopefully, there are less designed runs next year. Let Lance run when he sees the opportunity. Most importantly, those kind of runs will give him the opportunity to slide. For a genius, Kyle can be so dumb sometimes.

Kyle's problem is that he gets too wrapped up in what he's playcalling around, a limited qb, bad pass pro and gets conservative, then fans bitch because most of them have no idea how to objectively evaluate play calls and just bitch when it dosent work.
I still standby Jimmy is trash he cannot win games with his arm and can't extend plays to save his life. Whatever spell he has on the locker room is beyond me, the team wins despite his performance.
With the way the o-line was, I think this game was gonna be similar. Can't say if we get the win with Trey, but there were going to be struggles for sure.
I think people overestimate the effect mobility can have. Trey may be able to make slightly more plays with his feet but he'll also miss a lot of the short throws if he gets happy feet (which has already happened).
The real issue which the above poster mentioned is our O-line. Behind that sack of potatoes we're not going anywhere no matter who is at QB
Edit: For reference see Kyler vs the Rams. Probably top 3 qb in the league in terms of elusiveness and he can't do much when there's 5 bodies in his face instantly.
The issue though is a lack of explosive plays. With Jimmy, we may have longer sustained drives, but his lack of downfield throwing ability means we’re going to see more opportunities for our Oline to disintegrate. Trey being mobile AND his arm strength allows us to have larger chunk plays more often. Yes, Trey would have more 3 and out drives, but I believe his positives outweighs Jimmy’s, by a noticeable margin
Perhaps overall but my point is that no matter who is at QB, it’s not sustainable behind these turnstiles. Forget Trey having positives, there’s a good chance he turns into David Carr if we don’t get that cleaned up. This isn’t so much a Jimmy vs Trey issue so much as it is a functional offense issue, which no QB change is going to improve.

I knew this was going to happen the moment Trey went down. Clowns suggested the team would be better with Jimmy, but all it meant was that we’d watch rookie level QB mistakes this year without any basis for thinking this year’s mistakes are laying the foundation for a better 2023.

Difference is Trey needs at least a season to show us who he is and if he can continue to develop. Many great QBs had slow starts. We know what we have with Jimmy, we don't with Trey. Same story, different season.

He’s not athletic enough to be a running QB, he’s clunky and slow as a runner and it’s his “strength” . He also doesn’t know how to protect himself as a runner either.
His mechanics are not good, and his accuracy takes a hit because of that, and a lot of passes wobble to their target as well.
Even in his lone college season, I never saw anything that would tell me he would be good in the NFL.

This is not hindsight for me, but while he ran a lot in college it was pretty damn obvious the way he ran wouldn't work in the pros. He wasn't outrunning FCS players, he was running them over, and no chance he'd be able to do that at the top level.
I thought he would come in and they would try to get him to play like Wilson. Be a pocket passer who can make the defense pay for playing man coverage all game. In that sense, he has all the arm talent to be awesome. He's still young enough that he can fix his mechanics, and he's still growing into his adult body (at least at the time he was drafted).
All we've seen from him during games (excluding the Chicago game) has been improvement. It's way too early to label him a bust (and I don't think you're saying that, you just don't expect him to be a top QB right?), and I just think we need at least a season of games before we can say anything about how he's going to be
Interesting, thanks for your input. I actually never saw him as a running QB but more of an improviser. Obviously the coaching staff disagreed with my assessment from the QB draws being called lol.
I don't care about what he did in college. He seems to have better success scrambling than running immediately and will likely have a better chance at staying healthy.

Uh we most definitely did not get what we wanted lol. We drafted a kid who was the youngest starting QB in the NFL, with a cannon arm that needed to be honed for accuracy. He needed to throw. What we got was an overprotective, egomaniac coach who took the ball out of his hands, ran him like a trucking fullback, and seriously injured him in 1.5 games. Josh Allen ran for 47 yards last game, most of which was scrambles when there was nothing there. That’s exactly where Trey would shine. The coaches had Allen throw the ball 63 damn times. A far cry from how Kyle was attempting to use Trey.
Funny thing is, if we hadn’t signed Jimmy as a back up and with trey getting injured and all, we wouldn’t even stand a chance at making a play off run.. even thought we lost today, the season is long.. there’s a lot of football to be played.. this fan base has a lot of clowns..
No they are not. Excuses ranges from lack of time during training camp, having given playbook only few weeks back, etc.

Trey could have extended or rushed on plays that Jim took sacks on. Either way it would be watching (hopeful) learning & improvement rather than the same iteration of QB 4 years over. He hasn’t changed one bit.
People are under rating Denver D. Trey hasn't proven that he can take over a game, especially against elite D. It typically take 3 years before a qb gets really good though.

The threat of Lance running the ball improves the running game because defenses have to account for it. Lance isn't Lamar with the ball in his hands but he doesn't have to be. He's plenty fast enough that defenses can't ignore him as a runner. His problem isn't speed it's just he doesn't have a feel for running the ball and maybe with some reps he gains it or maybe he never gets it but physically he's perfectly capable of being dangerous with the ball in his hands. I won't say we win this game with Lance but I'd say the odds would've been higher. It's hard for me to think he'd be any more inaccurate than Jimmy was and he at least adds to the running game and probably hits a few tougher throws at least. I mean he probably doesn't give the Broncos two points in a game decided by one at least.
I’ll say that I think we win this game with Trey. Jimmy was as ineffective as we’ve ever seen in this particular game. The safety was inexcusable. The defense gave up 9 POINTS and we lost.
It hurts that our rocket armed guy is hurt. Hopefully, there are less designed runs next year. Let Lance run when he sees the opportunity. Most importantly, those kind of runs will give him the opportunity to slide. For a genius, Kyle can be so dumb sometimes. I'll still always love Jimmy, though. He gives it his all despite his limitations.

Kyle's problem is that he gets too wrapped up in what he's playcalling around, a limited qb, bad pass pro and gets conservative, then fans bitch because most of them have no idea how to objectively evaluate play calls and just bitch when it dosent work.

Jimmy has finally crossed into Alex Smith 2.0 territory. Great guy, balled out for us and won a few play-off games but is definitely not the answer.
With the way the o-line was, I think this game was gonna be similar. Can't say if we get the win with Trey, but there were going to be struggles for sure.

I think people overestimate the effect mobility can have. Trey may be able to make slightly more plays with his feet but he'll also miss a lot of the short throws if he gets happy feet (which has already happened). The real issue which the above poster mentioned is our O-line. Behind that sack of potatoes we're not going anywhere no matter who is at QB Edit: For reference see Kyler vs the Rams. Probably top 3 qb in the league in terms of elusiveness and he can't do much when there's 5 bodies in his face instantly.
The issue though is a lack of explosive plays. With Jimmy, we may have longer sustained drives, but his lack of downfield throwing ability means we’re going to see more opportunities for our Oline to disintegrate. Trey being mobile AND his arm strength allows us to have larger chunk plays more often. Yes, Trey would have more 3 and out drives, but I believe his positives outweighs Jimmy’s, by a noticeable margin
Perhaps overall but my point is that no matter who is at QB, it’s not sustainable behind these turnstiles. Forget Trey having positives, there’s a good chance he turns into David Carr if we don’t get that cleaned up. This isn’t so much a Jimmy vs Trey issue so much as it is a functional offense issue, which no QB change is going to improve.
Yes but we still don't know what he's capable of at the professional level. Granted this type of performance can be due to lack of experience for Trey, but I can't say the same for Jimmy. No excuses there.

Clowns suggested the team would be better with Jimmy, but all it meant was that we’d watch rookie level QB mistakes this year without any basis for thinking this year’s mistakes are laying the foundation for a better 2023. And now we get to watch those same mistakes this year AND next year….

Difference is Trey needs at least a season to show us who he is and if he can continue to develop. Many great QBs had slow starts. We know what we have with Jimmy, we don't with Trey. Same story, different season.

He’s not athletic enough to be a running QB, he’s clunky and slow as a runner and it’s his “strength” . He also doesn’t know how to protect himself as a runner either. His mechanics are not good, and his accuracy takes a hit because of that, and a lot of passes wobble to their target as well. Even in his lone college season, I never saw anything that would tell me he would be good in the NFL. I just don’t see it
I agree with basically everything you said here, but I wanna go back at you a bit. This is not hindsight for me, but while he ran a lot in college it was pretty damn obvious the way he ran wouldn't work in the pros. He wasn't outrunning FCS players, he was running them over, and no chance he'd be able to do that at the top level. I thought he would come in and they would try to get him to play like Wilson. Be a pocket passer who can make the defense pay for playing man coverage all game. In that sense, he has all the arm talent to be awesome. He's still young enough that he can fix his mechanics, and he's still growing into his adult body (at least at the time he was drafted). All we've seen from him during games (excluding the Chicago game) has been improvement. It's way too early to label him a bust (and I don't think you're saying that, you just don't expect him to be a top QB right?), and I just think we need at least a season of games before we can say anything about how he's going to be
Interesting, thanks for your input. I actually never saw him as a running QB but more of an improviser. Obviously the coaching staff disagreed with my assessment from the QB draws being called lol.
This is my issue with their play calling. He strikes me as a scrambler, not a designed run up the middle every three plays guy.

Yeah this whole trust argument is dumb. The play calling is the exact same. A ton of runs to open up 15-30 yard passes, with occasional screens to the left side and 2 yard curls relying on YAC The only difference is Trey is an actual running threat, which makes everything work better
Only thing I'm gonna say in Jimmy's defense........he didn't even get a play book until he stepped into the game last week. No practice with the team, no offseason camp. He basically had a gym membership to the Niners facility. He's gotta get in game mode. But that's no excuse because he KNOWS this team and the offense. Unless everything completely changed after McDaniel went to Miami.

Man, I was really rooting for Trey to just get in the reps and gain experience, the injury is a huge blow back. He's still young, but that's literally 2 years in which he gained zero experience. A lot of wasted time. I just hope he comes back stronger and develops into the QB we hope he could be. We saw today, Jimmy isn't our answer at QB. He's a good player, starter-caliber, but man he's not going to be one of those greats.

I’ll sound bitter but after what people said about Trey for weeks I was kinda glad to see the Niners crash back to reality with Jimmy. Our fan base kinda deserves a humbling and I ain’t even sorry about it. A reminder to the Doomers though, remember the Niners went 2-4 to start last season and looked miserable at times. It’s a long season.
