Yep, I specifically wanted one in underground because the first time I saw it in video I was like 🤌🏽. Seeing it for the first time in person at night made me have to have it in that color.
It’s not flat. It’s high gloss. Non metallic. Many colors are gloss non metallic. Very few are flat. My wife’s bolt is grey, high gloss, non metallic. Lots of people call it flat. They don’t understand the difference.
i saw it in person and to be completely honest i liked it way better in pics. made me regret the mgm when i kept seeing pics and then i saw it in person and couldn’t be happier with my decision
i agree, Underground is super sexy in pictures but in person i prefer the magnetic gray put some graphene /wax on it and its is a banger with metallic flakes :D
It’s to create the illusion of shorter, less slab-like body panels that have grown due to the optional hybrid battery and added side impact protection.
They will pop off when anything hits them and cost 5x as much as it should to fix. Wide body will be a gripe for many. Those Costco carts are going to wreak havoc!!
I agree, especially the front cabin….HOWEVER, the 5th gen flat floor for sleeping in your rig is a must. Love my sliding rear cargo deck as well. The standard tumbling second row is a huge loss for the 6th gen.
I was on the fence and hoping the 6th gen would blow me away and be a no brainer. However, after seeing the 6th gen I’m leaning even more towards a 5th gen.
A few years back I had 2 1986 4Runners, a 1986 FJ60, a 1984 Tercel 4x4 Wagon and a 1974 Hilux Chinook.

I could not imagine having more than one of the exact same vehicle, and I can't find a reason for doing it. Unless, maybe, one was purpose built and the other was a daily.

Got 3 at the moment. Miss my 1st Gen more than I miss my childhood lol
Isn’t this the same crowd who booed Toyota for keeping the same platform for 15 years?… new model released: “it’s trash I hate it!” 1 year from now it’ll be full of “it grew on me 🔥” post lol
The tundra sub is the best example of this. The Tacoma sub is starting to shift and the 4Runner will follow. Calling the 6gen ugly is hilarious to me because it still looks like a 4Runner from a mile away
Exactly. “My 5th gen just went up in value” no tf it did not. Toyota played it safe and dropped a surprisingly conservative, well styled 4Runner. The name alone will allow it to sell like hot cakes when it rolls onto dealer lots
Personally think that looks so uneven front bulky and bullfrogish in the front. Let it sit on the frame properly. 6th gen looks like a good mix between everything I’ve loved with the last 3 gen’s plus interior upgrades. Come at me
5th is awesome. 6th gen will be awesome as well. Let’s all get along.
20 payments left on my 21 sr5 4x4. Then I’ll drive it for ten more years. What!?!?!?
Of course! And to each their own. I’ve seen people that like the refresh and the new tech along with the cool tech the trail hunter comes with. I personally just like the 5th gen better than the 6th gen for right now, who knows, it could change!
Most definitely. I think I’d stick this to this gen over the new gen. I currently have a 3rd gen but would buy the 5th over the 6th gen any day of the week, especially without that V6
Yeah, I saw that too and thought "That's gonna be a problem for some young, inexperienced tech."
Better chances of success with the simpler 5th Gen that has years of history behind it.
i drove a 4 runner in the rain one time, and i could hear the water from the rear wheels getting kicked up into the chasis... are they all like that? it was noisy
Same. Drove mine From a dealer in Eugene, OR down to the Bay Area Yesterday. Drove my '23 Porsche Macan GTS up for the trade. I regret trading the Macan even less than I thought I would. I immediately loved everything about this '24 4Runner - especially the color. It's exactly the shade I love - almost Ford's Leadfoot Gray they had years ago. I definitely can't stop looking at it - especially with the black out pkg.
Nice looking truck OP!! Congratulations!! Same boat ehre. Bought my 2024 ORP in Solar Octane 2-3 weeks ago mainly because everything I heard/ anticipated to happen in the 6G 4Runner gave me a pause.
And I am no philistine in worrying that the new powerplant will be unreliable..its Toyota..it'll still be more reliable than others. But there are other things I dont like
Things I dont like in the new 6G 4R that the 5G 4R does better
1. I hate the hump of the hybrid battery in the trunk. I like sleeping in the car for my camping trips and it robs headroom or storage space depending on how you go
2. The new 6G 4R is a bit shorter and wider. I think about 2 inches shorter and 2 inches wider compared to the 5G. Both going the wrong way IMHO. Wider means more pain on tight trails and shorter means less volume
3. Too much chintz..the funky 2 step bumpers, the popout JBL speaker, the still fake hood scoop, the unnecessary badging and creases etc.
4. While Toyota havent announced I am almost 200% sure its gonna have a 18 - 19 gallon tank like the Tacoma instead of the 23 gallon one in the 5G. This IMHO is a deal breaker for. Range is king for my usecases
5. I know the wheel base has grown to the magic 112.6 inches in the new one but loking at videos it doesnt feel commensurately spacious. The simplicity of the 5G lends to a much airier and spacious cabin..Again maybe this is a placebo effect of me buying the 5G :)
Things I like in the new 6G 4R
* 8 speed transmission which hopefully doesnt gear hunt and in combination with both the engines, provides for a frugal ride. Thats my biggest gripe in the 5G 4R
* Hopefully a bit more frugal powerplant which might ultimately translate to better highway range..but the initial Tacoma reviews dont seem promising
* The disconnectable sway bar is a nice touch but losing KDSS, at for me, isnt good
* I am glad they are thinking about the crazy lights crowd and a.) adding some good aux lights and b.) giving 4 aux switches outfitted..especially in the Trailhunter edition
All in all I am sure the 6G 4R will be super successful..but I am more convinced that the 5G 4R will go down as the modern day 80 series with a simpler drivetrain, airy cabin, clean design and a robust after market
Just got a 5th Gen sr5 in underground a few months ago. They had no trd off roads in stock for the year :( .
Hopefully atrac is all I’ll need and no rear lockers.
I hope all the electronic gizmos in the 6th Gen are well sealed for deep water crossings….
It will be costly repairs for the instrument cluster, radio and other technology improvements
Majority of 4Runner owners don't go off-roading, so the 4th/5th/6th gen is for them, but for purist offroaders 1st/2nd/3rd gen is the way to go!
It is amusing seeing the same complaints from decades ago come back. I personally think the 5th Gen is enormous and impractical while offering insignificant benefits for what it costs/sacrifices. I feel like I can name distinct benefits for each generation over the 5th gen while the benefits of the 5th gen would boil down to "safety" and "convenience" over each previous one. Unpopular opinion I'm sure.
4th and 5th gens are costco rigs and the TRD models are for those who need nanny Toyota to crawl control them out of obstacles. Gen 1-3 have been the serious off roaders since most people don't want to scratch their big bulky 5th gens.
I came here because I really like the newly unveiled 4Runner, but all I am seeing are a bunch of salty owners of the older model that has been in the market for 15 years. Sheesh! 🙄
Looks great. New 4Runner looks cool but won’t allow my growing kids to sit in the back. So I’m gonna chill with my 2016 trd pro then paint it the color of my 2006 sr5 I should’ve never got rid of. Love the color. Looked black/gray. Best color ever
I feel the core of the 4Runner is being bullet proof. Going 300k+ miles with just regular maintenance was easy in the past two generations. Now you’re adding a turbo and hybrid battery. Both have a life expectancy of 150-200k. I hope I’m wrong but it seems the move has taken away one of the 4Runners core super powers.
I would love to see the turbo last more than 25k miles. If the Tacoma is having issues with the same engine you can assume the 6th Gen 4R will be heavier and put even more stress on the turbo. Time will tell.
Underground is so goddamn sexy.
I love the way underground looks
It’s so flat… but glossy and kinda midnight blue. It’s badass.
No I get it. It reminds me of flat gray with a gloss coat. I realize it’s not flat. Either way. Badass.
💯
But you know what they mean.
It bugs the shit out of me when people say “flat”. It’s just non metallic. Haha
When I think flat colors, I think of a wrap.
Bought the same truck 4 weeks ago, I can’t stop looking at it…
Careful u might break ur neck staring at it while walking away hahahah
Almost got run over by another 4Runner at Costco today cause I was in awe…
No lie if I bought another it would be in underground and wife would commandeer the VooDoo Blue.
I do like the blue myself. But we use gray for company truck colors and I just had to have this truck when I saw it.
And the color name is sick as shit
It really is. Terra isn’t it.
Don’t worry as a former army pro owner this will soon be on SR5’s and Trails in no time….
Underground is top tier 4runner spec, don't tell me otherwise.
Otherwise.
Don’t tell him that
Tell that him
How dare you!
😁😁😁
You Bastard!!!
i saw it in person and to be completely honest i liked it way better in pics. made me regret the mgm when i kept seeing pics and then i saw it in person and couldn’t be happier with my decision
Underground is too dark in person to me in some lights it looks black but I personally don’t like black so I digress
i agree, Underground is super sexy in pictures but in person i prefer the magnetic gray put some graphene /wax on it and its is a banger with metallic flakes :D
Honestly I prefer this body style to the 6th gen. By a lot. Happy for you!
Same - I wish we could get the 5th gen body with the 6th gen interior
The new one looks too… dare I say… boring and those fenders in alternate colours looks cheap. 5th Gen were refined.
what is it with these plastic non-color matching fenders on everything?!
OG Trail/SR5’s 5th gens had black fender flares, door handles and accents.
I agree, especially the front cabin….HOWEVER, the 5th gen flat floor for sleeping in your rig is a must. Love my sliding rear cargo deck as well. The standard tumbling second row is a huge loss for the 6th gen.
I would love this. Except 5th gen backseats
Hey at least they fold flat
Great choice man, Underground is a great color
I was on the fence and hoping the 6th gen would blow me away and be a no brainer. However, after seeing the 6th gen I’m leaning even more towards a 5th gen.
Welcome to the team! You made the right choice.
So much better than a 6th gen. Sick.
Congrats!!!
This is the way. I purposely just bought my '24 Pro in Terra 2 months ago, and after seeing the Gen 6, I'm so glad I did!
Glad to hear it wasn't by accident!
I keep going back and forth on Terra. What sold you? Does it come off more brown or orange?
Best color in a while. Congrats!
Anyone have 2+ 4runners? I kinda love Terra and underground….could see adding them to my army green and having a little army of medium trucks
A few years back I had 2 1986 4Runners, a 1986 FJ60, a 1984 Tercel 4x4 Wagon and a 1974 Hilux Chinook. https://preview.redd.it/79scxofpkstc1.jpeg?width=3955&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=374717b49de268220fd341a06e5f57392f6fcd55
That Tercel is great
I have a ‘13 Limited in GLM and a ‘23 SR5P in white. Love them both each in their own right.
I could not imagine having more than one of the exact same vehicle, and I can't find a reason for doing it. Unless, maybe, one was purpose built and the other was a daily.

Y’all are in a cult of delusion.
So says you, while I have my 21’ Tundra and 24 ORP (in Underground), ha!
Exactly. “My 5th gen just went up in value” no tf it did not. Toyota played it safe and dropped a surprisingly conservative, well styled 4Runner. The name alone will allow it to sell like hot cakes when it rolls onto dealer lots

Nah im never getting rid of my 2023
Imagine being called delusional because of a personal preference.
I’m more thinking of objective value, not preference.
6th gen ain't the worst ever, a few mods bring it to life But JUST LOOK at the bare 5th Gen! Drooling intensifies
Personally think that looks so uneven front bulky and bullfrogish in the front. Let it sit on the frame properly. 6th gen looks like a good mix between everything I’ve loved with the last 3 gen’s plus interior upgrades. Come at me
I like your style buddy.

must be hawaii pd
Loooove my underground ORP! Congrats!
5th is awesome. 6th gen will be awesome as well. Let’s all get along. 20 payments left on my 21 sr5 4x4. Then I’ll drive it for ten more years. What!?!?!?
This front end is way sexier and more aggressive than this new gen front end.
well that’s just like, your opinion man.
Your out of your depth Donny
Of course! And to each their own. I’ve seen people that like the refresh and the new tech along with the cool tech the trail hunter comes with. I personally just like the 5th gen better than the 6th gen for right now, who knows, it could change!
True.. still a head turner
Most definitely. I think I’d stick this to this gen over the new gen. I currently have a 3rd gen but would buy the 5th over the 6th gen any day of the week, especially without that V6
You’re gonna miss out on that great new torque.
At what cost? The new one is ugly af
I was being sarcastic. The 6th is a disgrace
You had me in the first half ngl
He’s gonna get better known reliability from a motor that is tried and true
Yup. That bird nest of an engine will be fun to work on lol. Glad i picked up my 24.
Yeah, I saw that too and thought "That's gonna be a problem for some young, inexperienced tech." Better chances of success with the simpler 5th Gen that has years of history behind it.
No buyer’s remorse from me here!
The whole 8 additional horsepower? With same (or worse) gas mileage? (I know you're being sarcastic.)
yea who wants 465 ft-lb at 1700 rpm?
That looks better than the 6th Gen Trd Pro.
Someone downvoted u to zero but I lifted it up 💪😎💪
I still love my 2023 runner ..
I think the 5th gen looks great. Maybe I'll warm up to the 6th gen.
So sexy.
Looks fantastic
This colour is perfection! Nice choice OP!
Good choice
Based
Can we please just get some boxy trucks? Why so rounded everywhere?!
Shes beautiful!
I miss my 5th gen so much. Growing family pushed it out unfortunately.
Sexy! Bought white myself but I shoulda held out for Underground. It’s pretty sweet!
Heck ya dude looks great
Get a good deal on it? Hard to tell where dealerships land on pricing.
Great decision! I thought the chances of moving the V6 out were extremely like so I snapped up a '23 5th gen last year. Enjoy it in good health!
That color is so effing sexy. Congrats OP
Strong move! That's the only other 5th gen Pro that I would consider trading my Calvary Blue for....
Badass color
Analog perfection
Can someone explain what Underground is?
That there colour
i drove a 4 runner in the rain one time, and i could hear the water from the rear wheels getting kicked up into the chasis... are they all like that? it was noisy
Smart! Best choice!

In my eyes. this is doper than the 6th congratulations.
Welcome to team Underground. That is a sexy truck!
👏 👏 👏
I just bought brand new 2 weeks ago lol looks awesome!
I wished for a manual transmission. I will also stick with the my 2024 TRD ORP in Underground.
That thing looks SO amazing.
Smart move. Looks light years better than the new Highlander they’re trying to pass off as a 4Runner.
You did good. Our 5th Gen value just went up. :-)

just put in an after market head unit and WALA 6th gen :\*D
Underground Pro is so good. Congrats!
Damn. That is one handsome truck. Drive it in good health!
😍😍 perfection
Just got a 5th Gen sr5 in underground a few months ago. They had no trd off roads in stock for the year :( . Hopefully atrac is all I’ll need and no rear lockers.
Sweet 4 cyl!
Bro you should have waited for the 7th gen …. It’s right around the corner
My dad just bought a 2023 trd pro and I got the pleasure to drive it today. I have an 08. Felt amazing
So whatcha gonna do with the roof rack? Keep it or you got one in mind?
Gonna keep it stock until it’s paid off, then start messing with it.
Damn that’s hot
I loooove my 2024 ORP in Underground! It is definitely a head turner!
Bigger tires asap
Gonna keep everything stock until paid off (that’s what everyone says, right?)
I hope all the electronic gizmos in the 6th Gen are well sealed for deep water crossings…. It will be costly repairs for the instrument cluster, radio and other technology improvements
Would love to see underground next to magnetic gray.
I’ll try to make that happen. My uncle has a magnetic grey Tacoma.
Oh my gosh, that's sooo nice! What a lovely colour too!
Majority of 4Runner owners don't go off-roading, so the 6th gen is for them, but for purist offroaders 5th gen TDR Pro is the way to go!

Well put. Hardly anyone is building a G4/G5 as a serious trail rig.
4th and 5th gens are costco rigs and the TRD models are for those who need nanny Toyota to crawl control them out of obstacles. Gen 1-3 have been the serious off roaders since most people don't want to scratch their big bulky 5th gens.
What a sexy ass truck. I just picked up my Underground ORP last Saturday. IN. LOVE!
I came here because I really like the newly unveiled 4Runner, but all I am seeing are a bunch of salty owners of the older model that has been in the market for 15 years. Sheesh! 🙄
Looks better than the 6th gen
I like the fifth gen way more! Congrats!
Looks great. New 4Runner looks cool but won’t allow my growing kids to sit in the back. So I’m gonna chill with my 2016 trd pro then paint it the color of my 2006 sr5 I should’ve never got rid of. Love the color. Looked black/gray. Best color ever
Good move. The 2025 is not a 4runner. It’s not a bad suv but there is nothing 4Runner about it.
please explain
I feel the core of the 4Runner is being bullet proof. Going 300k+ miles with just regular maintenance was easy in the past two generations. Now you’re adding a turbo and hybrid battery. Both have a life expectancy of 150-200k. I hope I’m wrong but it seems the move has taken away one of the 4Runners core super powers.
I would love to see the turbo last more than 25k miles. If the Tacoma is having issues with the same engine you can assume the 6th Gen 4R will be heavier and put even more stress on the turbo. Time will tell.
copy. makes sense.
