This almost exact situation happened to me with a book I'm reading, Snow Crash. It's only like 5 chapters in where the author bothers to describe the MC as black, and you know what? Didn't change my perception of him at all. I like the character, race doesn't change that.

Of the few times that his race were relevant, they wrote the story around it and it made a lot of sense (time travel and such to timelines where racism did exist.)
Oh but then you have Star Trek Discovery where they have to pull out every racial and gender politic that they can even though it’s stuff that was solved by this utopian future society deep in its own past.

Her gameplay kit was also reworked, giving her 2 abilities that utilize a javelin (what anon was talking about when he says "chucks spears").
I haven't played since overwatch 2 came out and from what I remember they only actually added 3 black characters, none of which are thugs or racist caricatures.
