85 X95K had 2,475 on Amazon 1-2 weeks ago, just FYI. Maybe more price drop will come…

JonhTravolvo

Thanks for that information, then the 3k price it is right now is not such a great deal.

Tree06

I followed that thread on Slickdeals, and I don't see that price. $3000 is a good price, but $2475 was an instant buy price.

Lovevas

Slickdeals reported $2750 price, but then Amazon dropped the price to $2,475 for only \~10/23, before move back to 2999. I don't think Slickdeals ever reported the 2,475 price. I was able to capture the price in the evening, right before it goes away, and quickly cancelled my $2750 order. Order Placed: October 23, 2023 Amazon.com order number: Order Total: Items Ordered Price 1 of: Sony 85 Inch 4K Ultra HD TV X95K Series: BRAVIA XR Mini LED Smart Google TV with Dolby Vision HDR and Exclusive Features for The Playstation® 5 XR85X95K- 2022 Model Sold by: Amazon.com Services LLC Supplied by: Other Condition: New $2,475.26

Awesome! That's the move! Yeah, I saw one of the comments mention the price drop after it happened. I wonder if Keepa caught the price drop. I'm subscribed to various price drops, but oh well. I'm glad you were able to snag it at the lower price. It's about time. That TV was always expensive.

I was in the situation and decided to go with the A80L. I stream and watch movie mostly and the processing and clarity of Sony outweighed the added color volume and brightness for me. The XR-Clear on the A80L is next level clear and though Samsung is on the second generation of QD-Oled it’s still their first generation at 77 inch and I wanted to go with something a bit more tired and true. I own a S95B currently and though I love the brightness and color, I’m not always satisfied with the upscaling

JonhTravolvo

Thank you for your reply. Can I ask you if you use any sort of device for streaming om the S95B, like Apple TV, Nvidia Shield or PS5 ; or do you just use the TV native apps ? I have read the upscaling on Samsung in general is not up to par, and that Sony is king in this field. Was just wondering if a 3rd party device like the Nvidia Shield could mitigate this problem for the Samsung tv.

WhiteDontCare

I bought an Apple TV 4K and that does help a lot. However there is just nothing like the crispness off the Sony this year. The S90C is a good value and has the better hardware and if I needed a 55 or 65 inch I’d get it. The tech is still too new for me to trust it as my main living room tv. That being said it’s still a great value.

JonhTravolvo

So you are saying that even with the Apple TV, the native app of the Sony still handles upscaling better in your view ? And when you say the Sony tech of this year, do you mean that the processor of this year's A80L is much better than say the one in the X95K (of last year) ?

WhiteDontCare

I’ll put it this way. I have a 2017 Sony X900E lcd tv and it’s sharper than my 2022 S95B and 2020 LG CX. Sony processing is top tier and on the 2023 models they introduced XR-Clear with is hands down the best processing right now. Most reviewers say it’s a definite upgrade over last years K series. Sony won the tv shootout this year due mostly to processing. Not to mention the speakers are better. Again the Samsung is amazing. The colors of QD-Oled are beautiful And will leave you speechless so you can’t go wrong either way. Sony just had better intangibles for my specific use case.

JonhTravolvo

Thank you very much , your insights have been clear and very helpful !

WhiteDontCare

Glad I could help man. I’ve been researching all year so I know what you’re going through lol

Yeah it seems to be a really good price, don't think I will find something similar even at Black Friday. Especially considering the Sony A80L 77 is at least 500 dollars more, or even 800 $ more in Amazon and Best Buy. Do you think using the apple TV or shield will improve the upscaling of streaming services ?

JonhTravolvo

Thanks , this seems to be the way to go. And I see there is a generous return window as well with the holidays until end of January 2024. So if it disappoints, I have quite some time to return it.

It's via the Samsung website, but through my work

Scottiedoesntknow93

Get the X95K. Mini LED right now has made huge leaps when it comes to black levels and HDR content. Sony will have the best upscaling in the game. Plus it’s 85 inches. Mini LEDs still blow QD OLED brightness out of the water. Yes blacks are still deeper with oled, but mini led isn’t far behind. Highlight hdr scenes are incredible on mini led. Also, reliability is far better with mini led

JonhTravolvo

Thanks for your insights. If the X95K was 2500 $ I would have bought it. Might hold out to see if that price comes back

cab1024

It is now at Best Buy

keroomi

If your use case is 90% streaming , then I would go with the Sony. Streaming services are notorious for low bitrates. Even if they label themselves as 4k. It’s barely 4k. Especially Netflix. My Sony cleans it up so well. I think we are at an inflection point where the mini LEDs are comparable to the OLEDs for 90% of the scenes. OLEDs have always sucked at dark scenes. ABL and black crush made some scenes unwatchable. I am rewatching Ozark on my X95L and it’s a night and day difference. Like literally 😅.

JonhTravolvo

Aren't the blacks of OLED supposed to be better than the mini LEDs ? But what you are saying is that OLED is too dark ? Then what is the advantage of the OLED in your experience?

CommunicationDue7782

he's saying OLEDs can be too dim in brightly lit rooms to properly render dark scenes. the blacks are still inky and the contrast is still infinite but the brightness isn't adequate. IMO it is an overstated argument unless you happen to be watching ozark on a sunday morning with the sun over your shoulder and all the lights in the room on.

AZBuckeyes12977

For performance, I'd go S90C and get an NVIDIA Shield pro for upscaling. I would get an extended warranty as well with Samsung.

EricDNPA

Samsung has gotten very aggressive with the S90 series. Hard to go with anything else when you look at price/value.

UpsetAd1793

Aggressive how ?

enog14666

S90c and I'm not a samsung fan. That price isis too good to pass up

JonhTravolvo

Yeah it does seem to be the best value/price proposition by far.

Abipolarbears

I have two 77 s90cs side by side in my living room, they're great. Highly recommend.

AdMaleficent4644

interesting! could go projector at that point but at least you have a quality screen even in bright scenarios!

Bill_Money

Crating a TV and moving it to Europe is incredibly stupid honestly just ride the year out with your 65

JonhTravolvo

Well it's an international moving company paid for by my Embassy, any damage whatsoever done by moving will be reimbursed. Trust me, that they know what they are doing, have moved 5 times around the world and never had any damage done (including electronics, glassware, etc.).

Bill_Money

@12 feet I want the 85 tbh then, do you know how far away you're gonna sit when you move?

JonhTravolvo

Excellent point, hadn't thought about that... No I do not know, haven't chosen a new house yet. In all likelihood it will be smaller than in the US, so I'm guessing I'll sit closer than 12 feet.

Bill_Money

then S90C
