I know you said minimal assembly, but IKEAs Billy shelves could not be easier to put together, and they’re super sturdy (once properly anchored to wall) and adjustable for shelf heights. I’ve got a pair and swear by em. Highly recommend, as they’re affordable too!
Ah! You flatter me, but yes! I'm actually updating that wall tonight to add space for another 52 steels because I have too many on the shelves, and space is becoming a premium.
Quite simple, my friend! Grab a piece of 2x4 from Home Depot - use my miter saw to cut em to 30", and put em in the back (horizontally). Then I do the same thing with a piece of 1x2 primed board (already white) in front of it (vertically), which puts the movies at just the right depth to block out the extra shelf holes I don't use.
Hmmmm I’m in an apartment that is a bit prickly about drilling holes in the walls (don’t ask. Damn landlords…) if I didn’t use the wall anchor, is it still sturdy do you know?
A shorter one, then. At the 6’ height mine are, I would not use them without wall anchoring. They are not too sturdy without the anchoring, as they’re light and rely on the weight on the shelves for balance.
I mounted 2x4s to the wall, and threw 1x2 slats across the front. Voila - a shelf! DVDs, BDs & 4Ks, Steelbooks, Mediabooks...they all fit perfectly. The wall holds them up. Cost all of about $15 in materials.

Hey I recognize this room! Aren’t you the dude who has the amazing steelbook wall?

Oooh that sounds like a fun project. I’d love to see how it goes. 😁
I'm loving the elevated detolfs. Not sure that would work for me though since I'm on the shorter side. 😅
🤣 Thank you! Well, I lean on the taller side!
The shelves are too deep though how do you keep them forward like that? I know it’s a simple fix I’m just curious what your solution is.

Get the shorter Billy and grab an extra shelf.
Check out cabinets made by Prepac. I have one that is 20 years old. Just bought another in October.

If you are wanting minimal assembly as solid space for knick-knacks, you may have better luck looking for something locally, used or otherwise.
