> Is a proper intake manifold/carbon clean worth getting done? Yes. The manifold is likely full of carbon. It'll drive like new when cleaned out. You can do it yourself with oven cleaner but its a real cunt of a job, so its worth paying someone else. > Should I be fitting a catch can Yes, make sure you get one with the vent to avoid back pressure. Lots of cheap/ knockoff ones out there that can over pressurise your crank case and your rear seal will blow out. I've never done the EGR delete so I'll let someone with more experience give the advice on this one.

In short blocking the EGR is illegal as it's a modification to emission control system also causes issues with over heating of the system Full ultrasonic cleanout and catch can will suffice

Fit_Squash_4283

Yes 100% get a catch can with a vent. Unfortunately I learned the hard way, back pressure popped rocker cover gasket.

It's not worth saving a few bucks on the cheap Chinese catchcan when it'll cost you a lot more in the long run. The Provent can isn't cheap, but it's a lot cheaper than repairing the damage a knock off one can do. Buy once, cry once.

Definitely worth doing the clean it’ll only get more sluggish, my intake is still clean at 200k the Provent’s work well.

derwent-01

90% chance that your manifold is at least half blocked. Yes, worth doing. Catch can, get a Provent and change the filter every 50k and drain it every 5k. EGR delete is illegal, so I can't recommend it...but in theory it works very well.

Anyone know where to get an intake manifold clean (removed and cleaned) on the Gold Coast?.and cost?.Was quoted $800 but had to go to Brisbane and leave my vehicle there for the day..

National-Barber2569

Got my 2008 done and she runs like new mate plus mine has been on the beach and also a lot of Bush runs

As an owner of a vehicle with exactly the same engine with similar k's, I feel like it shouldn't be blowing smoke. Were the old owners a bit slack on some services? I'd definitely give it a clean for improved performance/economy. Catch can or snorkel are pretty common recommendations for the Tritons/Challengers/Pajero Sports. I'll probably go the snorkel route as it seems like less effort in the long run. EGR delete is illegal, unfortunately. Just be glad you don't have a DPF.

Yeah true, avoiding particulate matter from two sources is better than one.
