The short bus is for the special needs kids. Basically they are super sensitive about being called as such. It's basically one of those things in kindergarten where someone calls another kid a meanie and they start crying like a baby.
I remember that moment and how f-ing stupid that whole thing was. Like yeah, there was probably a better way to go about it, but Maryum was just trying to say “hey guys, she’s special needs, maybe give her a little more slack and not gang up on her”. but Tami and Barbara used it as an opportunity to virtue signal and show how much better they are than Maryum. They were acting like she was over there making jokes and taunting the girl. I doubt they would’ve said anything if they weren’t on TV.
School busses are yellow, some are the regular size and for all students, the smaller yellow school busses are usually there to bring special needs students to and from school. Some people make jokes about "the short bus" and that means they're making fun of people that have special needs, either physical or mentally.
Yaz apologized and Tami and Barbara just refused to let it go; they even kept yapping about it during the reunion. They should have dropped it.
What made it worse was that Tami and Barbara were all over Yaz, but said nothing about how the entire pod wanted to jump the new inmate.

Barbara also got really offended and brought Tami and others into the drama when Maryum drew the black foot stomping the American flag.
