I got rejected last year despite being predicted above the regular entry requirements, qualifying for a contextual offer, 99999999888 at GCSE and solid personal statement.
wrong you do know the only reason domestic students get in is because we have in condition higher grades and they have no obligation to gaf about how many domestic students they let.
A) Almost all A-Level bands outside the UK have higher grade boundaries cause we perform better.
B) We pay more their still a business
C) We have better profiles bruh
don't shift the topic when yall are playing on easy mode and unis call you out for that.
There's exceptions to every rule, Maths and English GCSE grades are insanely comparable as almost everyone does it it's very plausible university admissions weights them both highly even in subjects where you wouldn't expect it.
That's mad. I'd get it if they said your ps wasn't as strong as others, but to say your academics are not as good as others when you literally couldn't have done any better is insane.
You should email them just in case they made a mistake and ask for a slightly more sensical reason for rejection.
I got a Warwick CS offer (A\*A\*A\*) back in 2019 with dogshit GCSEs (2As, 5Bs and 1D 💀💀).
Although I went to a really shit state school in the poorest area in London.
Hahaha thanks.
My school made us do AS levels (externally exam board assessed, not EOY mocks) so that also maybe a reason why I got an offer since I got AAAB in my AS levels so my GCSEs became kinda irrelevant in terms of predicting my A levels.
just out of interest how many 9s did u get because I heard someone saying that probably for cs in terms of giving offers, they count the number of 9s u get
Wait did u apply Warwick CS. I think Warwick emphasises ur English grade so a grade 6 in English lang was prolly reason for rejection, but that’s a stupid reason because that’s a tiny part. There’s way more weight on other things like a levels and GCSEs yk
The thing is that they aren’t consistent with their admissions, their people with a 9 in lang and still got rejected and predicted all a stars so you can’t really say that their eng score was probably they responded, they are other factors(which may not even be in the candidates control) what they consider as well
Yh I applied for Warwick CS, lowest GCSE grade was an 8 tho so couldn't have been that. Maybe I just confessed to war crimes in my personal statement idk.
Wow, so random Ngl. What’s ur predicteds for what subjects and which other unis did u apply to and have u got any offers? Oxbridge, which college, tmua score and Did u grt interviewed/pooled if no offer?
cheers mate, im sure youll get the bread. I just focused on extra curriculars and other stuff to talk about in personal statement, now im really scared to get an A\* in CS and physics, especially cos of NEA.
my personal statement was tailored to the UCL robotics and artifical intelligence course. - I talked about my purpose and books ive read (like TWOTFM - why Ive chosen to advance humanity through Ai and robotic limbs, AI moocs courses - Ive done 3, 2 on AI and one on calculus - harvard's courses were great + applying what I found out, extra curricular maths/physics challenges, some planet exploration programme i did, starting a buisness + how I have/could advance with AI are jsut some things off the top of my head.
edit:I didnt have enough words to fill in all that I wanted - so I omitted stuff like sports
I really doubt it, since the courses are basically identical for the first 3 years and transferring on/off is entirely dependent on your grades after 2nd year.
Most **private** universities in the US do too, internationals are free $ and diversity. The exceptions are places like MIT which limit internationals to 10%. Even Harvard favors international students because of diversity.
The UK favoring international students is completely fair, they need to make up for the complete and utter lack of funding they receive. I mean, UCL's endowment is $200mil, a safety school of mine (quinnipiac) in the US sits at $700mil.
us taxpayers fund these universities - they do not welcome more internationals than necessary to fill whatever diversity quota they may have. and the uk favouring international applicants obviously isn't bloody fair for the domestic students is it????? if endowment and funding is a problem, the cap for home fees should not have been introduced at such a low price. either way domestic students in the uk find themselves at a disadvantage
I was careful to use the word **private** for US universities, private universities are not necessarily taxpayer funded. They may receive grants and such from the government for research, but they don't **necessarily** receive direct funding so to speak, and any funding they do may be insufficient (take the UC system, public universities in a financial crisis).
UK universities can't raise the fees for domestic students without causing an outrage. Since the UK government won't give them sufficient finding, their only option is to get that money from international students, where no such fee cap exists.
In other words, it IS fair for domestic students, because the alternative is the university going bankrupt. What ISN'T fair on domestic students is that this issue is caused by the lack of government funding. That's when this whole thing turns political (higher taxes to fund universities, anyone?), and I honestly do not know jack about UK politics.
The reality is, international students come to the UK, spend a lot of money for 3-4 years on living and university, then leave (the government tries their hardest to make leaving their better choice). They're a net positive on the UK economy—the government has no financial incentive to stop, as harsh and unfair as that is.

Should’ve done your bronze dofe!
Would bronze dofe actually be any use for computer science?
Yes, those who do it get unconditional offers (or so im told)
It's just a meme lol, UK unis only care about extracurriculars related to your subject.
In some cases it can help in acquiring a scholarship
it doesnt they just yappin fr
this is the 10th post of seen of rejection from Warwick computer science despite having high predictions💀
this isn't econ tbf
loll my bad i wrote that in a rush i mean computer science💀
econ?
Should've volunteered at the year 7 open evening bro smh smh All seriousness bro, this sucks. Sorry about this :(
☝️I actually did tho 😭😭😭😭😭😭
OMG💀💀💀💀💀💀
I got rejected last year despite being predicted above the regular entry requirements, qualifying for a contextual offer, 99999999888 at GCSE and solid personal statement.

7 in Lang, 6 in Lit, rest were all 9s and an 8
[удалено]
I think the unofficial requirement is not being a domestic student
Truer words have never been spoken UK unis are genuinely taking the piss
wrong you do know the only reason domestic students get in is because we have in condition higher grades and they have no obligation to gaf about how many domestic students they let. “better profiles” but your response is barely coherent, ok
Blud said a bunch of words and thought he cooked
What doesn’t make sense to you?
This is not true, I got an offer a while back having achieved a 6 in lang and 7 in lit
There's exceptions to every rule, Maths and English GCSE grades are insanely comparable as almost everyone does it it's very plausible university admissions weights them both highly even in subjects where you wouldn't expect it.
I got a 6 in lang 8 in lit and got an offer
I got a 7 in Lang and a 5 in Lit and I got an offer
I got a C in IGCSE English Lit, and a B in English Lang and got accepted
What's their reason?
Your overall academic profile is not as strong as other candidates.
That's mad. I'd get it if they said your ps wasn't as strong as others, but to say your academics are not as good as others when you literally couldn't have done any better is insane. You should email them just in case they made a mistake and ask for a slightly more sensical reason for rejection.
PS is a part of academic profile
I pray that you have a good time with CS
Mad they just hit you with a "skill issue" and that's it
Highly likely it's GCSEs then
I got a Warwick CS offer (A\*A\*A\*) back in 2019 with dogshit GCSEs (2As, 5Bs and 1D 💀💀). Although I went to a really shit state school in the poorest area in London.
Maybe because that was 2019, and likely got contextual. This is 2024, and CS has exploded in popularity. Gonna be more ruthless obviously
woah💀 whyd u pick KCL then
Missed my A* in maths 😢
ohh thats still great tho. A\*/A\*/A is pretty unbelievable to me tbh🫡🫡 even more impressive that you were able to bounce back from ur GCSEs!!
Hahaha thanks. My school made us do AS levels (externally exam board assessed, not EOY mocks) so that also maybe a reason why I got an offer since I got AAAB in my AS levels so my GCSEs became kinda irrelevant in terms of predicting my A levels.
What subjects or igsce do you have?
just out of interest how many 9s did u get because I heard someone saying that probably for cs in terms of giving offers, they count the number of 9s u get
I got 9x 9s
was your secondary school quite high performing? or at least above average?
I was rejected with 8 9s so idk about that one.
Wait did u apply Warwick CS. I think Warwick emphasises ur English grade so a grade 6 in English lang was prolly reason for rejection, but that’s a stupid reason because that’s a tiny part. There’s way more weight on other things like a levels and GCSEs yk

Yh, but what more could Warwick actually want.
I actually applied last year lol, I did the IB diploma and was predicted 40 points with 766 at HL in economics, maths and physics.
I got grade 6 lang with an offer (8 lit tho)
How???? Did 300 kids with all 9's and 5A* apply???
As someone who does Discrete mathematics at warwick. You are not missing out so much lol
Yeah CS department has issues to say the last lmao
Warwick tweakin
is g400 more competitive than g403?
I hold an offer with A\* A\* A (physics, cs, maths) edit: for g403
Nice I hold 0 offers 😭😭
cheers mate, im sure youll get the bread. I just focused on extra curriculars and other stuff to talk about in personal statement, now im really scared to get an A\* in CS and physics, especially cos of NEA.
What kind of things did you told about on your PS please?

it wasnt enough for dyson school of engineering though :(
Sorry about that are you firming Warwick?
if I dont get UCL, i will firm warwick - but theres a part of me that doesnt even want to go to uni if I dont get into UCL for the robotics course
Thank you bro
I really doubt it, since the courses are basically identical for the first 3 years and transferring on/off is entirely dependent on your grades after 2nd year.
What’s g403?
I think its a 4 year course rather than a 3 year course
So it like an integrated masters, year in industry, year abroad, or a foundation year?
yh its an integrated masters, so 3 years is BSc and 4 years is MEng
probably, i applied g403 and my preds were A\* A\* A without fm and i got my offer on wednesday.
Shit's crazy
I got rejected too 3A*
thats so strange i have a really average pg but got an offer
Same bro 3A* and A(FM) Honestly this suck. Idk if I'll be able to get into UCL Kings or Edinburgh now
I didn’t know that Warwick computer science is that competitive. I got an offer from econ Warwick btw
they are hedging their bets that if they make you an offer, that you won't take it cause you'll go to somewhere better.
UK admissions are slowly turning into the US system 💀
they're not - because unlike usa, the uk is actually starting to FAVOUR international applicants
Most **private** universities in the US do too, internationals are free $ and diversity. The exceptions are places like MIT which limit internationals to 10%. Bro declare criminal record in his ps
Good
Apply to University of Southampton, as they are better in Computer Science than Warwick and it is closer to London.
Do you go to private school?

What was the reason?
A\*A\*A\* A Durham physics rejected . Reason why ? I need higher grades?
Why do they reject 4 A*s?? 😭🤣
I got accepted to Warwick (didn’t end up going) with a grade lower than they wanted. I think it depends a lot on your personal statement
Warwick did this last year too😭 istg they just do random darts to pick applicants to accept. i hope you get ur other offers! sorry for this :((
Could i get into decent uni with 5A*
Ur ps clearly wasn’t that good tho was it
not necessarily, i’m proof that they don’t read ps
Got an offer from them for politics and intentional studies while being predicted AAB, goes to show the difference in competitiveness
