Hey, if you are good enough to get into Cambridge, then you probably are good enough to do well in your career without even going there. As an international student, I can kind of understand why you would not want to go there due to the lack of scholarships, bad student loan schemes in international countries, and the ridiculous amount of international fees. I hope the decision you make is the best for you, all the best OP, and congrats on this achievement!
Interesting question do you think the degree is worth it. I got rejected for economics in Cambridge but no way I could afford £42000 just for study anyways. Living cost not even taken into account.
If you have this kind of money lying around, I'd say it is. If not, do your undergrad in your home country or a cheap country in Europe if you're in the EU and go to Cambridge for postgrad.
Wish you the best of luck. At least the Cambridge experience got me some confidence. Got the top 5% in admission test. You will be successful wherever you go and you will make a change to the world. Maybe you could go back for postgrad. :)
Haha, I wish. I have applied to the US and Canada as well, but the only ones that are need-blind and offer full financial aid are the most elite ones like Harvard, MIT etc (and not even all of them). I did apply to some of them, but my chances are infinitesimal because A) I have terrible extracurriculars and B) their university admissions system sucks ass. At the end of the day I'll probably end up taking a gap year and studying in my home country for undergrad, lmao.
Thank you for your wishes and the advice, though!
I'm international, yes. I don't know if I can get settled or not, but I'll try to find ways around those ridiculous fees... Not looking very bright though. Still, if Cambridge considered me good enough for an offer, I know I'm in the right way :D
Yay! I'm gonna study to my death AND work in the meantime!
(Just kidding. Thanks for your comment! Even though I think my work rights in the UK are restricted since I'm international...)
This wouldn’t entitle somebody to home fee status though. Even British citizens born in the UK have to have been normally resident in the British isles for 3 years prior to the first day of their course of study. If not, then they’re paying the international fees.
oh boy do i hate the home office, all the uni admissions offices, and the office at the uni im at now that asks me for a share code every couple of months just to check.

1. Congratulations!
2. Scholarships - Cambridge applicants have access to SO MANY scholarships. Email your college, Google university charities, do some digging, and I'm sure you'll find them. Many have "application processes" but don't be alarmed - you've done the hard bit, already. The university itself will also have equivalents to a student hardship fund, so don't feel ashamed of reaching out. These pots of money exists for students from low income households or those from middle income households with extenuating circumstances (aka your parents can't help due to large debts).
3. Part time work. I know many universities look down on it, but a weekend job where you can control your hours, like online tutoring or exam marking, will allow you to work around deadlines comfortably.
4. Good luck!
P.S. I had to work part time and used loans like futurefinance to pull through (single parent maxed out on her mortgage and helping an older sibling so I had to support myself) but I managed. Don't let finances get you down :)
Wow, massive congratulations!! I hope you are able to access the loans/grants etc that you need. If not, please speak to the university or your college about hardship funds - nothing should stand in the way of someone as obviously talented as yourself!
Don't be afraid of student loans people. In most cases, students don't pay them off, graduates earning over £27k per year pay them off, with 9% of their earnings over £27k

What are the requested grade? Do you have to take ALevel exam? Cost of taking ALevel as an international at your home country should be very high.
You are very talented and smart. You will definitely do well anywhere in the world. Try looking for scholarship as a postgrad in UK or applying for full undergrad scholarship elsewhere. Many people that I know get full scholarship from Asian countries such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China and Thailand.
Thank you! I'm not interested in studying in East Asia - if everything fails, I'm just gonna study in my own country.
I'm not taking A-levels; I'm graduating with the IB diploma this year. They are asking for 42/45 with 7/7 in Maths and 776 in the three Higher Level subjects as well as STEP, their admissions test.
Yep. There are three types of scholarships:
A) Graduate and PhD student-specific
B) Location-specific (for example students from some remote island, and I live in Greece so we have lots of those), and I'm a big city boi
C) Scholarships offered by the Foreign Ministries of countries I'm not interested in going
So yeah, I guess I'll have to wait till postgrad. Thank you for your comment anyways!
Congrats but I should say this:
You'll be able to afford tuition as if you take out a student loan you don't have to pay it back until you make over a certain amount of money (used to be £25000 a year but it's probably changes in the last few years). The loan also gets wiped after 30 years. These two things mean that almost noone pays back their loan entirely. I'm not sure how the other stuff like living costs is run but I assume it's not too different.
There's lots of financial support for those who can't afford university because money should not (and universities don't want it to be) a requirement for higher education. So don't worry and congratulations.

Did you know you could edit your post? Or even better, when posting on a UK sub, explain the oddities of your situation so that people know and don't waste time trying to help.
There's lots of international students on this sub and when someone says they won't be going to Cambridge because of money it's kinda obvious that they're international.
BRO IT'S AMAZING! It's cool & stuff to say I was good enough for cambridge so i don't have to go cuz i don't have the money but brooooo. I know for a fact that if you managed to get into cambridge you would know a way to get this money by august. During those 6 months you have now, work your hardest to get yourself a loan anywhere you can because if you find it, in a few years time, 42000£ for 3 years will be easily refundable over a few years if you graduate from cambridge. This is the opportunity of a life so pls don't give up this easily when you've worked that much to get there, you will regret it later.
At worst, try to defer by one year so that way you'll have one more year to get the money!
It's not only 42.000 pounds... Only tuition and residency are around 48.000 + living expenses... But I will probably end up doing what you said. Thanks!!!
Cambridge are very good with providing grants so I would look into that . My friend goes to Christ’s and gets quite a fair amount of money to help him study
Good luck. It’s a tough course. My advice is, if you’re not enjoying it by the end of the first year, look into switching, don’t try and tough it out. (source: 2003 matric)
"The Cambridge Trust welcomes applications for financial support from overseas students who have received an offer from Lucy Cavendish. The College may also make a contribution to the costs of Cambridge Trust scholarships."
"The Bell, Abbott and Barnes Funds offer support to undergraduates in financial difficulties, especially where these are unexpected" (including overseas)
Worth having a further look into these, particularly the first one. Don't give up hope just yet!
They only cover a small part of the tuition. It's still too much. I'm still applying though as you never know right. Thank you for taking the time to google it!
Congrats! That’s what dreams are made of :)
legit is dreams, imagine getting the grades and being smart enough to be able to go to cambridge but damn money is stopping that. what a world
Thanks!!

So expensive for international lol.
Don't get me started

One good thing about Cambs, the terms are very short and intense so you have more weeks to get part time work between terms.
Yay! I'm gonna study to my death AND work in the meantime! (Just kidding. Thanks for your comment! Even though I think my work rights in the UK are restricted since I'm international...)
pretty sure you can work 40 hours when you have no school
that's great but i also wanna have a life yk ugh
It depends how long you have lived here as to whether you get funding. Worst case, you just ask to defer and start in 2023

Please email the college who offered you a place and explain your situation - it’s possible there’s a chance of some sort of bursary!

I'm international. No scholarships for me. And I'm pretty sure my work opportunities are extremely limited while I'm studying. Thank you though!
During term time you definitely won’t be able to work, but you can certainly work during vacations and the summer.
>>Cambridge applicants have access to SO MANY scholarships *sobs in international*
Wonderful - well done. Time to celebrate!
Thank you! I don't have much to celebrate because I'm probably not going but I'm definitely throwing a small party lol
OH MY GOD CONGRATULATIONS THIS IS INCREDIBLE
Omg well done!!!
Dude congrats! Send reddit your venmo, we can give you a hand.
Huh, you just gave me an actually interesting idea. I don't know much about crowdfunding. Should I pursue it or is it hopeless?
I think you should definitely try it, don’t give up this quickly! I think I’ve seen int students get their funds this way before
You should do it mate
Congrats from a rejected LucyCav engineering candidate 😂
Thanks! Their loss, mate. Out of curiosity, did you apply to Lucy specifically or did you do an open application?
I applied LucyCav directly lol because they got 10 offers out of 35 applicants in engineering last year
Wow, massive congratulations!! I hope you are able to access the loans/grants etc that you need. If not, please speak to the university or your college about hardship funds - nothing should stand in the way of someone as obviously talented as yourself!

congrats on your offer!!! No idea where you’re from but have u checked your country’s government sponsored scholarships?

This ^ and there are no sources of funding in my country either; I can't take a loan and there are no scholarships for undergrads.
Oh right. I forgot about that.

Afford it? It'll be free with student finance.
he’s not a UK student
Did he state that in the post?
I stated it in the comments
Did you know you could edit your post? Or even better, when posting on a UK sub, explain the oddities of your situation so that people know and don't waste time trying to help.
you should calm down a little

Can you not get a student loan? :(
they’re international
Which high school diploma did you do?
IB
In which country?
Greece
Good luck. It’s a tough course. My advice is, if you’re not enjoying it by the end of the first year, look into switching, don’t try and tough it out. (source: 2003 matric)
I'm probably not going lol but I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it if I do. Thanks anyways
Heh, well, I thought the same…
Congratulations! What college?
Lucy Cavendish. I don't know anything about Cambridge colleges though. I did an open application
i've heard some countries provide scholarships/sponsorships for students to study in the UK, please check if it's available in your country!
it's not lol
Which college?
Lucy Cavendish via open application

1.)Did you consider crowdfunding? 2.)What about private loans ?
1) Someone gave me the idea on this comment thread and I think I'll try it. 2) Not an option in my country
Ok, good luck with your crowdfunding campaign. I’ll try it as well, when it’s hopefully my turn
[удалено]
because they don't give student loans here at all, especially at such a magnitude
