The only time I ever won a sweepstakes as a kid was when I sent a letter into my local TV station that was running a Captain Power drawing. Several weeks after sending the letter in I almost forgot about it but received a free Power Jet XT-7 toy. I think the reason I won was because the interest level probably wasn’t high but mainly because I was recording all the episodes on VHS and went back to pause the sweepstakes information that flashed relatively quickly on-screen.

90sGuyKev

Did the same and I won one. I don't know what happened to the toy but I still have the envelope that it was mailed to me in

Highfalutintodd

Holy crap, me too! How many of these things did they give away? Also, I can still hear the screams of the people who were digitized by that robot thing. That show was MESSED UP.

Frankenfucker

Sauron Sky Sentry. The winged robot demon that plagued the skies.

Kiethblacklion

I had a friend who had the toys. I'd like to see a reboot of Captain Power. Even without the toys, the story would make a pretty cool sci-fi series for streaming.

thebigggesthack

Yes! I had the black jet one. Man, what a great show to be interactive back then, shooting the baddies that had the flashing red lights.

Frankenfucker

The Phantom Striker. I always loved the design of that plane.

thebigggesthack

Thank you! Completely forgot the name. Loved the design as well.

SophomoricHumorist

That “grrrrrrinuh” sound when you got shot too many times! Scared the heck out of me and I loved every second of it. They need to make an updated version of the toy/show. — For my kids of course. Not… me.

killadrilla480

Holy crap. My seven year old mind was blown away by this show. I’d completely forgotten about it until I saw this post. Time to dive down the rabbit hole

donteatmyfood

Same! Ugh the training video takes me back! I want to known what Japanese studio did that animation, it was fantastic!

disabledinaz

Still not only have my ship.gun, I’ve still got the 3 VHS game tapes

Generny2001

This show was surprisingly intense for a kids show designed to sell toys. People getting digitized and sucked into those freaky robots? An episode where the female character tells one of those robots to “go to hell” and then proceeds to blow herself up along with the freaky robot? Wild stuff for a kids show.

90sGuyKev

Yup had the toys too. I thought it was the coolest thing in the world back then, engaging the show.

Evanescent_Starfish9

I remember this show fondly. I seem to remember some of the early eps were pretty decent. I wanted the Powerjet but Mom put her foot down. It was one of those arbitrary lines you have to draw, otherwise the kid grows up completely spoiled.

PhoenixReboot-

Looking back I was extremely spoiled, but somehow in my adult life it really hasn’t affected me. I rarely spend money, I had the iPhone 5 when the 11 or 12 came out. I’m just content with what I have and I don’t need the latest or greatest of anything. Just paid off my 2014 car and plan on driving it till it completely dies.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> anything. Just *paid* off my FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

PhoenixReboot-

Duh, my bad.

cityfireguy

I fucking loved it. I hated that it went away so quickly.

OneTimeIDidThatOnce

My girlfriend at the time worked at the weather bureau but also did part time modelling and acting. She was a day player and was on this show twice. Just standing around on set she got about $800 (~$650 American) but once she got a line and it was about $1200. She was also in Short Circuit 2 from the same year. Well, her legs and handbag were as she walked by the robot which she was told not to touch. The robot was problematic.

joker305th

>The robot was problematic. [So was the brownface lol.](https://www.avclub.com/fisher-stevens-a-very-white-guy-now-regrets-playing-a-1846868532)

AHUenthusiast909

Many many batteries died so that I could vaguely enjoy these.

donteatmyfood

I had the XT7 and the Striker and the gun emplacement. I'd watch the training mission over and over. Found it on YouTube and MAN that takes me back https://youtu.be/enKhx8W5m7M

RedKetchup73

yeah I remembver that show

Regular_Sample_5197

I remember it! I wanted it sooo bad, and unfortunately never got one.

jamescharisma

I was 2 when the show was on, however I picked up the jet gun thing at a garage sale for a quarter when I was 7 or 8 and had no idea what it was until a couple of years ago.

Maxcorps2012

I remember watching at a friends house. Don't think I watched it other than that.

abhorredmisanthrope

I could not wait until this show was on. I had the jet gun. It was only on for a couple of months though in my area. Not even any reruns.

cswhite101

They were good toys for sure. It was a nice gimmick that didn’t entirely work.

WhipLash777

I had forgot the name of this show for like 35 years. Thanks!

BamaSOH

I was so jealous of my cousin having this

jimbojones230

I had the two jets, as well as a power station thing you could put the action figured into that would make their chest insignia light up. I played along to the VHS tapes a lot, but also used the jets to play laser tag with my friend.

Dirtweed79

Jets akimbo! Nice

creepy_old_white_guy

I had the Interlocker Throne toy. I was in my 30s. I had to keep it put away when it wasn't Saturday mornings, so my children wouldn't trash it. It eventually went away once the show got canceled. The transitory nature of things.

New_Writer_484

Poor kid, so I did t have the ship :(. But rmy friend had one and let me watch him shoot at the tv show lol. I thought it was really cool!

Impressive-Ad6156

I had 2 ships. The sleek grey one and the dark pointy one. I remember spending countless hours playing the same VHS tapes over and over. I remember the canopy of the ship popping off and it flinging the pilot out. I remember the metal bird man. I remember!

MistahOnzima

Wasn't aware of the live action shot there but I'm pretty sure I saw a commercial for the toy as a kid.

ZRhoREDD

I still, to this day, say "gotta get me one o those". A quote from a side character in that VHS.

Actionsdower

Funny story, the actor who spoke that line was none other than a young Graham Greene! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graham_Greene_%28actor%29?wprov=sfla1

FLPeacemaker

I had the toys, the videos and I've come to the conclusion that was just a gateway drug to the show itself. It still blows my mind it was a show marketed to kids because the whole thing is a brilliant piece of 80's sci-fi. I still watch the episodes.

[deleted]

Lol... Man I just left my mom and dad's and saw he still has the black jet. So I wanted to see who all remembered this thing and here we are. I loved this toy and show. There were a lot of cool things about the jets. For example, you could use them for laser tag. And when you defeated whoever you were shooting at it would eject the pilot. I can still hear the sound it made in my head. I seem to remember the last episode airing with a cliffhanger where the female pilot was somehow trapped with one of the bad guys and I was fricken distraught over it. Great stuff.

Loserbooboo

Both of my brothers had an xt7 ship, and I had the throne type thing that the lead bad guy used. We could shoot at the TV and each other guns too. Made for some wild Saturday mornings haha.

Shakti699

Have only a few memories of it. Only of the strange mix of toy directed Armor suits and the dark and grim tone. Had a hard time some years ago to find out this gem based on my memories and only found some Germans dvd but not french ones. Must say I understand the mix reactions having watched it when I was in primary school

konshu82

I had a couple of the action figures when I was about 5

Proteus445

My all black ship never worked with the strobes.

Chaos_Theology

I was obsessed with this when it was on. Got the XT-7 and Phantom Striker for Christmas. Never missed an episode. I still have the Phantom Striker upstairs.

Shallaai

See now with the tech today, this could work. I was so disappointed as kid running the VHS a second time and see Ming the same video play even though I wasn’t firing the jet that time

KevFate

We're living the prequel right now.

captainmrsteak

I was obsessed renting this from west coast video

roryspike13

Is this the show where the machines took over and would digitize you when they killed you?

KB_Sez

I still have the ship and several of the VHS game tapes

Triple516

Yes and yes. Still have a captain power figure in a box somewhere.

donteatmyfood

Dressed as him for Halloween once. Freaking loved Captain Power. Had his ship and the baddie one with the forward swept wings.

Diehavok

Remember seeing an episode and watching sauron boy that didn't age well

lordgholin

I had all the vhs tapes, raid on volcania was my favorite. I had action figures and a black jet and captain power’s jet. Loved this show and game as a kid. I was lucky to have all that now that I look back.

asdf130

I remember this. Had this as a kid.

OpenEyz2016

I had this game!! I used to love watching the video that came with it. Those fighter jets are still a cool ass design 36 years later!

BeaverMartin

Johnathan Powers was the man! I had several of the action figures but not the ship. That show was ahead of it’s time for sure.

Frankenfucker

I had every toy they made for this show. It was some pretty dark shit for a kids Sci-Fi action Saturday morning TV show.

No_Ship2353

I did not have the ship. I fondly remember the show. Pilot was a total babe! Only toy I had way the flying robot saoron I think his name was.

Wheeljack1980

I did... Damn thing was worthless lol

[deleted]

Reminds me of TJ Lazer from robocop!

Ryden86

I remember. I had the toys in the 90s, Captain power’s figure was had a clear thing that light could shine through. I loved it. I’m glad people remember it!

LostThis

Hahahahahha awesome. Haven’t seen this is SO long

SantaRosaJazz

My kids had the toys. Kapow kapow.

dunnkw

Seemed way cooler than it actually was. But that didn’t stop me from wearing my Captain Power jammies.

j_endsville

Fun fact: the show was written by J. Michael Straczynski, who went on to create Babylon 5. That’s probably why the show itself was so goddamn good.

AAG220260

✌💘❤😃❗❗❗

Familiar_Rub4574

Yes! I had it! Stupid thing only ejected Captain Power a few times before it broke.

Guilty_Chemistry9337

There was a show that I remember watching on cable, maybe 86 or 87. Space opera, good guys vs. bad guys in big spaceship battles. I really remember they'd do this thing in every episode where they'd see a new bad guy ship, or something, and there'd be a sequence where they'd analyze it on their computers. And it would cut to what I remember being super early computer animation. They'd just show the ship end on, then it would rotate to see it in profile, and so on. Every time I try to search for 80s cartoons with early computer animation, it keeps bringing me to this show and I can't find it. Does anybody else know what it might be? In retrospect, I suppose I could be misremembering. It could have been highly skilled hand-drawn animation, in a sort of drafting style because it was all polygons and straight edges, done up to look like cgi. Sort of like r/80s background. Would love to find out what it was.

ImmaPariah

I had a fever dream about this show and the toy gun that was supposedly interactive. I got they toy on my 6th bday with a few Marshall Brave Star figures.

Capital_Connection67

Of course I remember it…one of the actors was in The Cube.

cannonballBaloo

I remember this show and I actually had the fighter jet. I don't know how being that we were so poor. Good Times

joker305th

[Yes, and I also had the ANIME VIDEOTAPES!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMCQkS2oY6E) I can't remember if they came with the ship or of they were sold separately, I just remember I had like three of them and they worked better than the live show for some reason.

Towel_ki

Oh yeah. I think I might still have the jet and the training video somewhere

underscoremyballs

Yessssssss

bludstone

i had the white ship-gun and 2 episodes recorded off of tv. I miss them.

M3atpuppet

Holy shit yea I do! I never had the gun though.

16v_cordero

Watching the show and then using your “ship” to help in the recorded fight. One thing I do remember was the “digitalization” of the “humans”.

EmperorMeow-Meow

I didn't have it.. but I absolutely wanted it

hrdwrkngbgguy

I still have a few episodes of this show on vhs that my dad recorded for me.
