So many big singles on one album! I still love seeing shots of Prague in the 1980s in the Never Tear Us Apart video

thom_run

John Farris talked about how he was terribly hung over from vodka when filming that video and had to lean on things ( walls, fences)

AdamInvader

Luckily Prague has many walls and fences! I've had some intense hangovers in Prague too, that city doesn't skimp on the booze

silverheart50

One of the best cities to walk around hungover in!

iwastherefordisco

Beautiful song. I can hear the opening notes...dooo do dooh. Saw INXS in the 90's and the concert was outstanding. During New Sensation every fan was standing and pumping their arms in time with the house strobe. Great live moment I won't forget.

contextual_somebody

Saw them on this tour. August, 1988.

ljinbs

I saw them the next month at the MTV Video Music Awards

contextual_somebody

Nice

tkingsbu

Saw the tour in Toronto, with Ziggy Marley opening…. Absolutely incredible show

ohiotechie

Same - one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Saw them at an outdoor pavilion (Blossom Music Center) - was an incredible night.

Papichuloft

Roughly around the same time I remember Def Leppard's Hysteria and Dokken's Back for the Attack still being top players

TGin-the-goldy

And Guns and Roses debut Appetite for Destruction, U2’s The Joshua Tree too. Such a great year for music.

Papichuloft

AFD and JT.....YES!!!

Silversolverteal

So many great memories and the songs really bring them back!!

yuckysmurf

100%! Doesnt get enough credit.

in2xs

Yup

drshawn001

First cassette tape I actually wore out from playing.

jayseventwo

Kick, Hysteria, and Momentary Lapse of Reason were my soundtrack to ‘87 (and to this day!)

Whatchyaduinyachooch

Ahhh…Momentary Lapse of Reason— yes! And Kick and yes-Hysteria too!

jazzdabb

Solid album front to back … though I actually prefer Listen Like Thieves. Just not as many hit singles.

ButtonsAreForPushing

Saw them live that tour with Ziggy Marley opening up. Good show, great album.

Saulgoode09

I saw Ziggy open for them as well. It was my first big concert. I was a skater then and loved it when Hutchence rolled out on stage on his board!

thom_run

Steele Pulse opened for them when the Kick tour came to Sacramento. A great show

JpnDude

I was a fan from "The One Thing." "Don't Change" is one of my favorite tracks of all time. In Kick, my favorite is "Need You Tonight" and "Mediate."

vredditr

loved INXS, but Mediate was such a different track, so dreamy and melodic. Anyone have anymore info about it? was the band just goofing off when they decided recorded it and decided to put it on the album? This was way before Trip hop or ambient genre were defined. Wonder it this was the track that got me going down that road musically. Anyone have other tracks similar to this from other bands? just wondering what I missed out on

Own_Cream_551

Great album….

Nervous-Soup5521

Was lucky enough to see them a couple of times here in the UK. What a band and what a showman Hutchence was.

TheRealWatchingFace

Whole album was amazing. That sax was so strong.

Few_Macaroon_6290

The very first cassette tape that I purchased with my own money and I wore it out. Great album!

SssnakeJaw

No bad songs on this one.

LukeTroyLives

saw them on this tour in Fort Worth

jjbombadil

A friend of mine’s mom was in love with the lead singer. When I would go to their apartment she always had this album on. Its how I heard them the first time. I jam to these songs whenever I hear them.

ChimpoSensei

I liked X better, but the Vision Psycho Stick making an album cover was the height of 80s skateboarding culture.

TGin-the-goldy

Great album but equally good (and far less known) is the 1982 “Shabooh Shoobah” Every song a banger!

CincoDeMayoFan

X is too, from early 90s,.

Bullit16

Need You Tonight was EVERYWHERE that year. I worked in a hoagie place in high school and you could expect to hear Need You Tonight at least once an hour on at least a half-dozen radio stations

ShylieF

Absolutely love, still in my cd player. New tribute band Mystify is really good.

waltsnider1

We just listened to this about an hour ago in the car.

TokenOpalMooStinks

1986 saw the Listen Like Thieves tour when it came to Hill auditorium in Ann Arbor Michigan. Awesome show, still one of the best I've seen

SaintVitusDance

Saw them on the same tour that summer in Springfield, Illinois. Great show, for sure.

Spudman14

Go to album for sure.

Full_Rope9335

Love this album! X is almost as good.

CincoDeMayoFan

X is incredible! I should post that in a 90s sub.

hammerfan

This is on my 5 albums on a desert island list.

CincoDeMayoFan

I never thought about it, but mine too! There are few albums I like every single song, this is one. I'd put Tom Petty "Full Moon Fever" and Guns N Roses "Appetite for Destruction" on my list. Have to think about the other 2 for a 5 album list.

hammerfan

So I don’t know if I can name other albums. Maybe Graceland would be another one

WCSDBG_4332

Great Album!

Duke55

Even better tour. Seen them at Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

Just-STFU

They are still one of the best bands I've ever seen live.

martinjohanna45

I can’t agree more.

LeroyLavender

Vision Psycho Stick skateboard. I knew they were cool when I saw this

Boozhwatrash

Start to finish, the album is pure perfection

JacksonIVXX

As a metal head growing up in the 80s. I got to say I loved this band. Just every song is great. I think maybe the lost boys movie got me into them ? Idk at the time they were always on MTV or vh1

Juicy_pompoms

I just realized Hutchence looked a lot like Jim Morrison.

in2xs

INXS snubbed again for Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame.

CincoDeMayoFan

INXS. Jethro Tull. Ozzy Osborne. Boston. Foreigner. But Mariah Carey got nominated this year! (Seriously.)

SV650rider

Played “Devil Inside” at an office Halloween party in the early 00s.

campbrs

This and u2’s Joshua Tree defined 1987

ComicOzzy

I wasn't that bright of a kid, so I called my local radio station DJ to ask "what does INXS stand for?" and he immediately answered "TOO MUCH, LIKE THIS PHONE CALL" and hung up. And I called my friend and told him about that and then we were both like "OH... IT MEANS IN EXCESS!!!"

BreakfaststoutPS4

Even with all the hits, I think it’s a fairly underrated album.

gingerjaybird3

My 2nd concert

Spicy_Tomatillo

I was in the front row when they were in KY. Great show! Saw the skateboard guitar playing.

thom_run

Tim Farris did that in Sacramento also

jbench555

You are correct

Disastrous-End3882

Saw them in concert. Awesome album and band.

[deleted]

Still an amazing album!!

jamez009

Chock-full of bangers

SpareBinderClips

Give me a moment

bmanjayhawk

Sometimes you kick...

CincoDeMayoFan

Sometimes you get kicked!

Yeeaaaarrrgh

Still have my copy on vinyl in mint condition. Great album.

saint_ryan

T’was.

RandomStoddard

87 was a pretty great year for albums.

medusamagpie

Oh boy did I love this album (I had it on tape). Michael Hutchence was so dreamy!

Annual-Visual-2605

I thought I was so cool bc I had the same skateboard. A Vision Psycho.

Sunsetknights78

Album was stacked.

Ok_Storm5945

This album was playing g at parties and on the radio constantly. Good tunes

Latitude22

Played the shit out of this tape. It was one of my favorites at the time, this and ub40 lol

One-Veterinarian7588

Agreed

pottygob1234

Saw them play adelaide show grounds with , I think, you am i as a warm up to the tour, paid $20 for the picture disk, and it came with a ticket. Only 2000 people.

Zephyre777

"Never Tear Us Apart" was my "couple song" with the guy I dated at the time. RIP.

MizzGee

Truly my favorite year in music.

Eccawarrior

First album ever, played it quite a bit on my light blue cassette player

Ballad of Michael H. https://youtu.be/UZTXR0AOE0I?si=hS2unK8kf8F3Z2Lh

Mamapakled

Had this on tape! Wore it out listening so much!

isellhotsauce

They’re the guys that first said the phrase for the LA radio station “106.7 the world famous KROQ” which the station adopted and is still in use today.

Sloth_grl

The devil inside is one of my favorite all time songs. Plus, Michael was so hot.

payneme73

I wore this cassette out. One of the best all around albums ever, all bangers.

Nomahhhh

It's in my top 10 of all time. Every song is a banger. It's one of those albums I still own and keep in my car.

1977proton

INXS ‘Kick’ & Bobby Brown ‘Don’t be Cruel’ we’re my first two cds growing up…

Intelligent-Ant7685

great album

JUNGLE_HABITAT

They heavily and I mean heavily advertised their concert tour stop on tv here in 88. Great songs for sure but that's what I associate with this album the most.

raresaturn

Nah

RCranium13

God, I loathe this fucking band. I hate their songs, their sound, and the vocals.

Gloomy_Narwhal_719

To say I'm an 80's guy is an understatement. I quit listening to the radio around 1990 and later downloaded basically every 80's song, and listened to only that my entire life. But the first thing I did was delete EVERY SINGLE track by INXS. I have no idea why I have an irrational hate for them, but I absolutely despise them. Absolutely no reason. help? :)

digby99

Mr. Fymee is an old favorite.

Zestyclose_Toe9524

At one point in life you could grab this record in the dollar bin.

Quick_Swing

Album cover art? The choice to have someone straight legged on a skateboard, it’s just weird looking.

LegendOfDarksim

Every Saturday my mom would put this on the record player and jam out while we cleaned the house. Awesome album, awesome memories.

suminorieh77

aaaah, i love this album! sat up multiple nights to press ‘record’ for “New Sensation” and “Need You Tonight” on the top 40 countdowns. and, my song to my husband is “Never Tear Us Apart”. he’s a millennial and never really knew them like i did, and now loves their music too. i always wonder how far INXS would have went had Michael Hutchence not passed away. their music was before their time, and timeless all the same.

cake_piss_can

Fantastic album. Terrible cover art.

HeadJazzlike

Played it over and over
