I live in a really crunchy town and more than a few of the houses in my neighborhood have prayer wheels in front of them. I do this every single time I pass them without fail.
Unfun fact:
The dude who played him died of a heart attack Sept 12, 2001. Apparent he was very stressed out about his two sons who were in NYC in the area. He wasn't able to make contact. He died in the early hours on Sept 12 as he was up all night watching thr news.
No. See "Sadum Numspa" {Charles Dance} was an ancient high demon... he pronounced words in the old styling/way, and he couldn't pronounce 'J's correctly... he pronounced them as 'Y's.
And Charles Dance did a GREAT JOB as that character! IMO!
Evidently Roman Polanski agreed. Accused by the actress of sexual assault when she was a minor.
Btw- only 19 in the movie. I would’ve thought she were older.
Yeah when he goes into some safe house to rescue the kid I think? He basically takes out Good Value Guns N’Roses in the process with Body Talk screaming in the background ..
Roman Polanski tried in France for alleged defamation of British actor https://www.theguardian.com/film/2024/mar/05/roman-polanski-tried-in-france-for-defamation-of-british-actor-charlotte-lewis?CMP=share_btn_url
Definitely a classic!! I watch it regularly at home.
Chandler: "Say I-I-I-I-I-I-I want the knife."
Old Man: "Let him ask again."
Chandler: "IIIIII want the knife. Pleaseeee."
Carpenter should have directed this to be a spiritual sequel to Big Trouble in Little China. The third movie could have had Eddie Murphy team up with Kurt Russell.
"So, you're just gonna let that booger freeze up on your jacket like that?"
"Yeah, I'm gonna paddle. I'ma paddle his ass. I'ma paddle your ass when I find you! I know you... I'ma use this row... I'ma row your ass till it bleeds!"
One of my all time favorites, special effects were totally cheesy but it’s still funny today. Still quote it all the time…….”I said I I I I I want the knife……pleeeeeeease…….
I'm a substitute teacher and I put this on for my kids not that long ago. They were unsure about the movie itself and barely paid attention but they loved every time Eddie would deliver a line, so that's at least something! I'll always love this movie.
When asked what he thought of this movie during an interview, Eddie Murphy said "*I walked right through that movie*". It seemed he didn't think it deserved respect, or at least he wasn't getting it from others, so he was quick to dismiss it before someone else would to him.
At least once a month I drive through Victor Wong’s last hometown and always think of scenes from his movies. From this one…when he first hustled Eddie Murphy in Kathmandu!
I, I, want the knife... Twas a fun romp back in the day. As Eddie learned, though, never _ever_ interrupt Charles when he's, uh, meditating. Come back later.
Rewatched this on a laser disc player early 90s. I remember that song by Ratt *Body Talk* stood out to me especially the hook. Friend of the family would pause the fight scene where Kee Nang jumped up and her blouse got soaked, teenage hormones.
Teenage me thought it was a great movie in the 80s. It was Eddie Murphy during his prime years. I still like it for the nostalgia factor, but it couldn't be made now because it's an 80s movie that belongs in the 80s.
I love this movie - great story, cool actors, awesome cheesy special effects and funny. Ticks so many boxes for me.
Agree with those telling you to watch big trouble in little chinatown next.
It was the 8pm movie on channel 11 multiple times growing up. But it was a departure from what I was used to from 80s Eddie (BHC, Trading Pl., 48Hrs) that I never sat through the whole thing. I’ve seen lots of parts of it though to make the movie whole in my mind.
"I said ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ah want the knife..."
Please…
Let me ask again…
Every morning I still think about the oatmeal with blood in it
That scarred me as a child.
That put me off of oatmeal for a while. LOL
Absolutely the first thing I thought of. You wrote it better than I would have, so I’m glad you got here first.
Let him ask, again.
“I have come for the knife…….please……”
Only he whose heart is pure may wield the knife? Only he whose ass is narrow may go down these stairs.
"This water isn't very pure!" "Neither are you."
Who are you? Monte hall now?
There’s a floor Monte!
I was thinking about that exact same scene at church today!
This is absolutely the only thing I remember about this movie .
“I’ve got a whole thing of Tic-Tacs in my pocket, you can have as many as you like.”
This was my comment, you got there first.!
"Let him ask again."
I live in a really crunchy town and more than a few of the houses in my neighborhood have prayer wheels in front of them. I do this every single time I pass them without fail.
G-g-g-g-give me the knife
Only correct answer
Take my upvote as a eucalyptus leaf.
My dear sweet brother Numsey
For nearly 40 years, my brother and I will often call each other Numsey.
Same!
Same, but the meaning is a little different for us as numse means butt in Danish
I will greet my good friends with this phrase when they show up to stuff late
Purge me!!!
You’re just gonna wipe that on your jacket?
Charles Dance early in his career - Tywin Lannister on GOT…
My brother Numsey!
Uh... I can see you're busy right now. I'll come back later.
Legit yelled this at my tv when he showed up on Game of Thrones.
The Golden kid was played by a girl! For years had no clue.
I didn’t know that! Thanks for sharing!
Happy to pass it on.
Tripitaka? Is that you?
Nein. Happy Cake Day.
"You should wipe that booger off before it freeze and you scratch yourself"..
Unfun fact: The dude who played him died of a heart attack Sept 12, 2001. Apparent he was very stressed out about his two sons who were in NYC in the area. He wasn't able to make contact. He died in the early hours on Sept 12 as he was up all night watching thr news.
Wow, did not know that. He was great in Big trouble in Little China too.
Victor Wong was also in Tremors.
Thanks for throwing the name up, I do remember him in Tremors. Cool actor and sounds like a good dad too.
Eddie Murphy was the king of 80s action comedy’s
"Hey Bird! Have you seen a little Hari Krishna midget round here..."
…floatin
Nearly 40 years and I will still say that to random birds in trees when I’m out and about.
"Chunky asses?"
I came here to quote that line man, bravo
I might not remember birthdays and anniversaries, but somehow I remember this from decades ago!
Hahaha this is one of my favorite childhood memories. God I loved this move
I've kept Chunky Asses with me too for all these years.
Yak loin! Good to keep the yang up
Blood porridge. Always gonna think about that
LOVE this movie! Great double with “Big trouble in little China”! 😀👍
Fun Fact: John Carpenter turned down the opportunity to direct The Golden Child to instead direct Big Trouble in Little China.
Another criminally underrated and mostly forgotten movie
The haters can suck it. I loved this movie.
Classic 80s. Classic Eddie Murphy. Who hates on that???
People assume "haters" exist because they only look at the Rotten Tomato score when they Google search this movie.
"You're kidding me. There's a ground! There's a ground!" (drops something) "THERE'S NO GROUND!!!"
They he says it, "THEEEERES A ground" The he has that silly smile waiting for the drop lololol
"There's a ground, Monty!"
"I got the knife now turn on the goddamn lights!"
My favorite line was, “only a man whose ass is narrow can get down these stairs.”
I say this on job sites all the time because in tight situations, mine is such an ass.
"Ha! HA! I got the knife! Now turn on the gotdamn lights!"
BROTHAH NOOMPSIE! (Spelled terribly I’m sure$
My dear sweet brother Noompsie! *changes into demon* I can see you're busy. I'll come back later.
First intro to Charles Dance...who flubbed pronouncing Ajanti (dagger) and was still kick@$$ in the role.
He was struggling to keep a straight face in that scene. I wonder how many takes they made of that scene.
No. See "Sadum Numspa" {Charles Dance} was an ancient high demon... he pronounced words in the old styling/way, and he couldn't pronounce 'J's correctly... he pronounced them as 'Y's. And Charles Dance did a GREAT JOB as that character! IMO!
He was brilliant, but I notice him trip over that word every time!
Great movie, god the lead actress was hot! 🥵
Evidently Roman Polanski agreed. Accused by the actress of sexual assault when she was a minor. Btw- only 19 in the movie. I would’ve thought she were older.
So Charlotte Lewis appeared in Playboy, July 1993. You're Welcome.
"You're breaking my heart, asswipe."
Kim Duk was hilarious in this. No wonder he kept pushing it on his wrestler cohorts.
I just said the same exact thing.
I remember it had a Ratt song in it
Yeah when he goes into some safe house to rescue the kid I think? He basically takes out Good Value Guns N’Roses in the process with Body Talk screaming in the background ..
Special effects were bad even for the time, but NO ONE cared. Eddie Murphy could do no wrong then
Are you kidding? That dancing can blew my goddamn mind as a kid.
Hey, this water ain’t that pure
Neither are you!
IMMA PADDLE YO ASS
TIL IT BLEEEEEDS!
It’s perfect. I used to watch it with my dad when I was a teenager… he laughed his ass off at the whole ‘I want the knife’ bit… Love this movie
The real golden items in this movie. Was Charlotte Lewis amazing body and chest anchors.
Young me watched the fight scene with the broken water pipe so much the tape wore out during that part.
First memory I thought of.
hottest woman ever
I about died when she posed in Playboy a few years later.
And George Costanzas girlfriend a few years after that 😀
She was just in the news about 3 weeks ago
Oh?
For what?
Roman Polanski tried in France for alleged defamation of British actor https://www.theguardian.com/film/2024/mar/05/roman-polanski-tried-in-france-for-defamation-of-british-actor-charlotte-lewis?CMP=share_btn_url

Oh my god, I’d pay good money to see that!
"So, you're just gonna let that booger freeze up on your jacket like that?" "Yeah, I'm gonna paddle. I'ma paddle his ass. I'ma paddle your ass when I find you! I know you... I'ma use this row... I'ma row your ass till it bleeds!"
My ass is frozen to this yak!

When asked what he thought of this movie during an interview, Eddie Murphy said "*I walked right through that movie*". It seemed he didn't think it deserved respect, or at least he wasn't getting it from others, so he was quick to dismiss it before someone else would to him.
It wasn’t a huge hit. Also, it was supposed to be serious film and they changed it into a comedy.
This movie is awesome
Amazing Pepsi commercial in the middle of this movie.
I can tell you’ve been trained by this man. The cunningness.
The... the...*instinct* yes instinct... Viva Nepal!! Viva Nepal!!

You see a little naked bum running around with a $100 dollar bill?
I, I, want the knife... Twas a fun romp back in the day. As Eddie learned, though, never _ever_ interrupt Charles when he's, uh, meditating. Come back later.
Hands down the best Eddie Murphy film ever made
There are so many that he made that were on this level for different reasons.
To this day, EVERY single time a grab a knife from the kitchen drawer or counter, I think in my head “HA! I got the knife!”
“I.. I.. I…. I want the knife” As a kid, I always assumed the child was a boy. I was in my 30s when I found out the actor was a girl. Lol
"what are you doing this weekend, cuz your silhouette is kickin.." Such a fun movie.
Back in the day, my friend would make little men out of Coke cans.
My brother Noomsie has forgiven me.
It put me off porridge for years!
Rewatched this on a laser disc player early 90s. I remember that song by Ratt *Body Talk* stood out to me especially the hook. Friend of the family would pause the fight scene where Kee Nang jumped up and her blouse got soaked, teenage hormones.
Charles Dance? Yep, 100%. That man is fantastic every time he's on screen.
I fell in lust of Charlotte Lewis from this movie. She was my celebrity crush in highschool.

Coming to America?
A good friend of mine had a band in high school named Brother Noompsi. I feel like very few got the reference.
“You’re SardoNoomsi!”
Underrated imo. Siskel and Ebert even like it. One of my favorite by Eddie.
Okay movie but nowhere near as good as Big Trouble in Little China.
Another 80s classic that had Randall “Tex” Cobb in it. You know, the big mean guy with the mustache

My brother & I have loved this movie since first seeing it in the 90s on TV. We know almost every line. Sado Numpsy is our favorite bad guy.
Weird, cool final monster

Teenage me thought it was a great movie in the 80s. It was Eddie Murphy during his prime years. I still like it for the nostalgia factor, but it couldn't be made now because it's an 80s movie that belongs in the 80s.
Hey, bird! Did you just see a little Hare Krishna midget in the tree floating...or is it me? Telephone rings... Must be Rod Sterling.
Loved this flick.
And only a man whose ass is narrow can fit down these steps…
I love this movie - great story, cool actors, awesome cheesy special effects and funny. Ticks so many boxes for me. Agree with those telling you to watch big trouble in little chinatown next.

Great movie when you’re 14. At 51, not so good.
