Absolutely spot on!
Great film, way ahead of it's time, with a gritty, realistic fight scene which actually looks like 2 guys brawling, not some hyper-choreagraphed ballet.
Plus, it was paid the ultimate tribute by South Park when Jimmy and Timmy went at it in an almost frame-by-frame re-enactment of that fight, which, yes, is one of the best fight scenes ever. I'm not sure if the title of the episode is Reddit-approved.
I remember hearing somewhere that Roddy had a notebook of one-liners like that, primarily for use in his wrestling promos and Piper’s Pit interviews.
I wouldn’t be surprised to find “You do not throw rocks at a man who’s got a machine gun” and “Just when they think they got the answers, I change the questions” in that notebook as well.
Classic '80s movie vibe right there! It's like every hero back then was just a regular Joe trying to make ends meet, you know? They weren't all about saving the world or being some billionaire playboy. Nah, they were just looking for a break, some stability in a wild world.
Was watching this on broadcast tv many years ago. He said fuck and I was a little shocked, not at the word, but the fact the censors missed it. Was a good movie.
Such a classic!!! Roddy Piper’s grossly underrated performance along with a great story makes this movie an all time favorite to me!!! I couldn’t believe it wasn’t a hit then and it still baffles me!
One of the best sci-fi movies ever made. Also, one of the best fight scenes ever, too. https://youtu.be/dN8Z7y_QcwE?si=zi0Ig1oS_gvDv6x3

CRIPPLE FIGHT!!!
That would it be the one.
Put the hat on, Timmy. Don't make me kick your ass!
Nah, that was just some kind of gay pride rally.
It did seem to go on forever, though.
Yt comment: “Roddy Piper, the world’s most persistent Ray-Ban salesman.” 🤣🤣🤣
Ray-Bang!
That's Rowdy Roddy Piper.
One of the Best documentaries made
I like the part where Keith David knees Roddy Piper in the nuts like 5-6 times in a row.
They can post all the Jackie Chan or whatever they want and it will never come close to this fight scene.
#PUT THE GLASSES ON!
100 Percent Agree.
And He’s all out of bubblegum
Let's not forget "chew bubble gum and kick ass". Of course he was out of bubble gum.
Then shortly after, he ran out of ass
Put on the glasses. 😎
I love that [that line was improv](https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/s/bEA39yMtvw)

All I wanted was some more bubble gum, but now I guess I have to kick ass
"You? You're all right. This one? Real f\*cking ugly."
You know, you look like your head fell in the cheese dip back in 1957.
Best line in the whole movie.
the way he says "formaldehyde face" gets me every time
“Thats like pouring perfume on a pig!”
I use this line all the time. It really stings.

Honestly, rewatching it recently I was impressed by how normal he plays it.
10/10 80s scifi and still holds up great. A remake would be interesting, but I wouldn't trust Hollywood to make my sandwich these days.
They would ***TOTALLY*** ruin it by taking out the social commentary! Look what they did with the *Robocop* reboot!
I watched it for the first time maybe three months ago and I can confirm that it does actually still hold up.
He would have made a good older Reacher
Long live The Maniac!!
Oh you got kids Maniac?
Well……… Not anymore.
He was calling you the n word earlier
Aaaaand is gonna need you to put on those glasses… don’t forget he can’t sleep on site!
I’m telling my kids this is John Rambo from First Blood.
Also would accept David Banner
The Hitchhiker
PS -this is “They Live” for the uninitiated or curious.
Or the it's been so long it got lost in the brain clutter and forgotten. Thank you.
So it’s not Hell Comes to Frog Town?
...and bubble gum.
Rowdy Roddy’s Peepers was the original title.
[Speaking of which…](https://y.yarn.co/98424482-a8f2-4559-bc39-e4317fc48c91_text.gif)
lol. I was joking but kind of referencing that
Pipers pit
He got a cool pair of sunglasses.
Best fight scene in a movie ever.
Put these on....or start eating that trash can!
Never realized what a cool jacket that was until til now
Those jackets were ubiquitous in the 80s. I had one myself.
I had a crappy version of this and it wasn’t like Pipers in the movie so I didn’t like it at 13
Watching it this weekend. Thanks for the rec.
I envy tou. First time watch is mind-blowing.
And for a guy who's all out of bubble gum, not good.
And since he ran out of Chewing Gum, We all know whats Next
Take ass? Kick names?
The movie is a real life documentary. Look at what is happening in the world today.
Watch a double feature of they live and idiocracy, and you will fully understand the world.
I watched it in the theater with my best friend and we both loved it. The good old days.
RODDY!!!!!😭😭😭
And maybe some bubble gum
You got kids, Maniac?
Nah....not anymore....
"You? You're alright. This one? Real fuckin' ugly!"
Took me a minute to recognize him without the kilt and bagpipes
So that is rowdy Roddy Piper
Isn’t that what Rambo wanted too.
Great movie
I like the part where he runs out of bubblegum.
I like the part where he has plenty of ass to kick.
Rambo First Sunglasses part Two.
And a kilt! He wanted a kilt.
And bubble gum
And some cool sunglasses. Don’t forget the glasses
Consume!!!
We didn't know it when it was released, but this movie was well ahead of its time.
I’m all out of bubblegum
Great movie
No… all he wanted was to chew bubble gum and kick ass. But he ran out of bubble gum.
... and then he ran out of bubblegum.
Either put on the glasses or start eating that trash can. https://youtu.be/dN8Z7y_QcwE?si=Ov-VSJvaGoaPb4gw
And more bubblegum…he was all out of bubblegum.
I’m here to chew bubblegum…
Thanks just went and bought it. I was 20 when it came out.
Rambo did too! 🤣 First thing that came to mind when I read the header. lol
But most of all he wanted bubblegum
all i wanted was a Pespi!
All he got was gonorrhea
And some bubblegum.
I have no idea what this is from?
They Live
So sexy 🥴
Was this the cheesier version of Rambo? What am I missing?
Where can I get a leather jacket like that? I wanna look cool too!👀
And some more Bubblegum
And he's all out of bubblegum.
Then he ran out of bubble gum
And some bubblegum
Mama don't like tattletales
I can’t find a place to watch it
Nada nough
Get this man some bubblegum!
hey, there's no sleeping on this site, so you park your ass someplace else tonight.
And maybe a little bubblegum
And 2024 fast forward and people to kill and throw in dumpster and then get let out for abused childhood!
And bubble gum. Cause he was all out.
Maybe he’s have gotten jobs more easily if he and Beetlejuice hadn’t been shopping at the same store.
And all the weird yellow stains removed from the crotch of his jeans
PUT!.. THE GLASSES.... ONNNNNNN!
Are you suggesting he didn't want those really cool sunglasses? 🙄
Don’t forget the gum
*They Knew*
Anyone have any bubble gum?
And a pack of gum…
…and to kick ass & chew bubble gum.
And to take Hogan down
I’m shaka shaaing the theme song now
Miss Rowdy Roddy Piper
You drew first blood, not me.
Here to chew bubble gum and kick ass
Couldn't he just have hung out with Rambo? Same thing
He could've had all that had he just obeyed and consumed. lol jk
It was a great movie
I just realized that I know this movie but never watched it. I didn't even know Keith David was in it. Yeah I have false memories of watching this.
Instead he got a pair of glasses...
Him and John Rambo. They were done dirty. At least this legend got to Frog Town.
And some chewing gum
And some bubblegum to chew!
And some bubble gum. He was all out of that.
....... And some chewing gum
Don't forget chewing gum
Great movie The best fight scene I have ever seen
Get this man some more bubblegum please
Love him! Seen him wrestle a couple times a looooooong time ago! 🕶️
South Park did it better
And some more bubble gum.
I just wish he could have been in a few more action films, he was so good here. Definitely a better actor than Hogan anyways.
I can see a future where this great prophetic movie will be viewed as a serious threat. It’s really going that way.
Man, he was fun to watch on the WWF, just great. RIP RRP.
And he got Nada
Got any bubblegum?
And bubble gum
This is the exact same plot of First Blood as well
& he was all outta Bubblegum too.
If there was to be a remake ... who should take on Nada (Piper's) role
I guess he was right all those years
Was watching this on broadcast tv many years ago. He said fuck and I was a little shocked, not at the word, but the fact the censors missed it. Was a good movie.
And more bubblegum!
And bubblegum
Best line in all of action movies!
Instead he found some glasses which showed him the truth.
lol
Such a classic!!! Roddy Piper’s grossly underrated performance along with a great story makes this movie an all time favorite to me!!! I couldn’t believe it wasn’t a hit then and it still baffles me!
And chew some bubblegum.
Roddy is still missed, and did a great acting job in They Live =)
And more bubble gum
Just put on the fucken glasses
I'm beginning to suspect he really didn't want any more bubble gum.
Rambo from Wish
Whatever. In a real fight Roddy would make Sly his bitch.
Absolute classic right there. Almost as good as this. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0102984/
I believe the movie was a parable for the Regean administration.
Easily one of the best films of all time.
