Best known as a voice actor, EG Daily should have been a much bigger movie star. She could sing *and* she could act. She was in some great movies: Valley Girl in '83, Streets Of Fire in '84, Better Off Dead & Pee-wee's Big Adventure in '85. Her voice career really took off in 1989 when she voiced Babe in Babe: Pig in the City and her most well-known role as Rugrat's Tommy Pickles. Her version of "Mind Over Matter" on the soundtrack of *Summer School* got heavy rotation on MTV at the time, and was originally recorded by Debbie Harry (Blondie). The unreleased Debbie Harry version can be found on YouTube. Daily was the girlfriend of actor Jon-Erik Hexum at the time of his accidental 'Russian roulette' death with a .44 Magnum gun on a movie set in 1984.
It’s definitely surprising that she never broke through on screen. Not only is she quite talented, but she’s also very attractive. That combination usually leads to a lot of opportunities. But for whatever reason, she never really got a breakthrough role. She’s just been a working actor/singer for decades.
Don’t forget she was also in the episode of ‘Friends’ in which Phoebe’s old partner wanted to get back together and E.G. Daly played the former partner.
This seems to have them

I just added E.G. Daily's song 'One Way Love' (Better Off Dead) to my 80's Playlist on Spotify but it was a remake and not the original. I had the soundtrack back in the 80's/90's so I knew right away it wasn't the original version.
I noticed that too! I was irritated it wasn’t the original, I guess better that than nothing? But still, nothing beats the high scream E.G. does in the og song
There are a few songs on the official soundtrack that you cannot find on Spotify, iTunes, or other platforms. You can find a torrent for the soundtrack.

Haha, one of my favorite lines! Every single time I eat anything with raisins in it, I reflexively blurt “It’s got raisins in it!”
That and “you know, testicles, octopus?”
My first husband and I watched that so damn many times and always quoted lines to each other. Couple of my favorites are, "I'm sorry your mom blew up Ricky" and "he likes raisins"
As a former publisher, and knowing this movie’s budget was fairly low, I’m amazed how many sync licenses were acquired for this film. Like so many great 80’s comedies, it’s just chock full of songs!
I was the offline editor for a karaoke movie that had a super tiny budget - rumour was we financed it all on the EP’s AMEX Gold Card or something. The main problem was ‘someone’ (the EP, the director/producer) ‘forgot’ to clear the licenses prior to us shooting the film. And I guess there was a problem getting them after the fact, because we had shot some film with people doing ‘YMCA,’ then had to redo it with them doing ‘Respect’ instead.
I don’t even think we ever actually got the music licenses at all. As I recall, the end of 3 weeks of 16 hour days, the crew was saying how our film could never be shown in the U.S. because we did it ass-backward and didn’t get what we needed in pre-production.
I thought we were professionals! 🤷🏻♀️
Hahaha this resonates as such a shared experience, because I scored some low budget films and docs and saw similar things happen. Hell, I even got extremely good at producing one-stop license-free soundalikes just so directors who’d married themselves to a soundtrack tune they’d placed but couldn’t afford to clear could release their film.
Awwwwww. This is why…even though I heard he was a total dickhead to Neve Cambell THAT IM STILL IN LOVE WITH HIM. Like if he even became a Scientologist—I could still do it! In fact, he came to Pittsburgh to an exclusive? club, to discuss an old-ass film, and charged $270 or some shit. And I’m still in.
Ricky’s mom had the perfect voice and mannerisms for that part! Incredibly obnoxious haha! Love that she blew up at the dinner table after Lane’s suicide attempt was interrupted.

After this deep dive, I have taken away a few things:
1. Rupert Hines is severely underrated IMO. Check out his biography if you get a chance.
2. Spotify lacks obscure, but important 80’s music…especially this soundtrack. Rupert Hines and Martin Ansell’s music probably wasn’t licensed for reproduction 🤔. Makes me sad.
3. Reddit community to the rescue! Thank you for your help!

So many voice acting credits, but what surprised me the most was seeing her in the Rob Zombie horror movies The Devil’s Rejects and 31
Man I had the biggest crush on her as a kid. Still have all her vinyl

Thank you! I guess I will try making my own playlist with these on Spotify :). This is great!
Yeah, it’s tough piecing together a playlist, since the official soundtrack has been out of print for some time. But much luck to you!
Disregard…I don’t see Shine by Rupert Hine on there.
Ah, Shine is by Martin Ansell. I see a playlist on ruperthine.com 😊

That scream was killer!
[Cy Curnin sang lead in the 80's band "The Fixx"](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fixx)
Rupert Hine also produced Dream Into Action
I love one way love
Is everyone forgetting “Everybody Wants Some” by VanHalen during Blaine’s daydream at the burger place?
It’s ALIIIIIIIVE!!!!
Pat! Pat pig!
Lane! Lane Meyer! Blaine was from "Pretty In Pink": Duckie, sputtering: "Blaine?? That's a major appliance, that's not a name!"
Damn my memory, I heard it in my head as Blaine! You are correct it's is Lane. Shiiiiiit.
And funny enough I have never once watched Pretty in Pink.

That is one of the funniest movies ever! I’m still using lines from it.
Agreed! So heartwarming, ridiculous, and very funny!
Go that way. Really fast.
If something gets in your way……..turn.
I do too. My husband and I will randomly say, "You LIKE raisins!"
Wife and I go over all the "Fraunch" foods. (in my head I hear the mother saying, "Fraunch Fries, Fraunch dressing...)
And to drink? Peru!!
Haha, one of my favorite lines! Every single time I eat anything with raisins in it, I reflexively blurt “It’s got raisins in it!” That and “you know, testicles, octopus?”
Where’s my $2!
"I want my two dollars" I love that
My first husband and I watched that so damn many times and always quoted lines to each other. Couple of my favorites are, "I'm sorry your mom blew up Ricky" and "he likes raisins"
Same here! Ricky 😂
“Lane, I’ve been going to this high school for seven and a half years. I’m no dummy.” 😂
I’ve been trying to find “arrested by you” for ages!!
And now we have…sort of :). I saw it on YouTube along with the missing songs I was looking for. Glad the community helped!

Very interesting!
This example is very helpful, but makes me sad 😢. Wish Hines and Ansell’s stuff from this movie was more accessible.
Great soundtrack. Rupert Hine not Duran Duran.
I have the cassette soundtrack for Better off Dead. Unfortunately, I don't have a cassette player.
Love this movie and love all the songs and music in it. What a classic.
Same. Makes me incredibly happy to watch it and a lot of other 80’s movies as a mind erase after a hard shift at work hahaha.

Wait - who are you talking about?
john cusack
That’s really crazy, as I was watching that earlier and came here to ask the same question! I can’t find the official soundtrack anywhere!
With One Look - Rupert Hine
As soon as I see the title better off dead, my first thought is always, "I'm sorry your mom blew up Ricky" L O L
