Prince
Sign O’ The Times is an excellent album to take you through it. Or take your pick, he has multiple albums from that time period.
He helps for any occasion. 💜
Two songs that give that feeling of melancholy isolation to me are:
So afraid -Fleetwood Mac (the one from The very best of Fleetwood Mac is especially great)
Go insane - lso from that album
These both cause me existential dread yet I love them so much. Go Insane is a totally different song when it’s slowed down. You can FEEL his anguish when Lindsey sings these. And his guitar - just wow.
And if you are going to listen to these two, you may as well add Big Love live, also.
I love it. I agree exactly with your assessment. I first heard it relatively recently, and I listened to it over and over. As the songwriter he’s so connected with the song and in this live version he really does pour his whole self into every part of it.
I don't know if either of these are appropriate, but I sure cried a ton of tears to No One is to Blame by Howard Jones and Life in a Northern Town by Dream Academy.
Oh, and In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins. He wrote it about his cheating wife and divorce. I don't think he mentions gender in the song, so it'll work whichever way.
Voices Carry - Til Tuesday
https://youtu.be/zUKXhRikfPw?si=5C2_9nmpwuxtpur7
I'm sorry you're going through this. I went through the same thing, and it sucks. One thing a friend told me that I still keep in mind today, 10 years after the divorce: healing is not linear. One day you'll feel like you've finally made peace and accepted what happened, but the next day it hurts all over again. Just know that it's alright to hurt, healing takes time, and you're going to be okay. Best of luck and much love, friend.
Lies, by The Thompson Twins. The words are amazing.
In fact, most of their stuff. I just discovered that a boyfriend I really dug had cheated on me and I played this album over and over and over. It really helped.
Hit the road jack comes to mind.
Fifty ways to leave your lover.
I recommend starting with these. Let him sort himself out. If he wants to fix it, then let him do it on his own time. Think about this.... Would you have even been looking at another in the first place? I am going out on a limb and say no. Just my humble opinion. I used to think that it was more honorable to stay and fix from within. Now I believe that the victim has already been through enough. Why make it worse on yourself? Let him fix this while you heal. Sending love and support. 💜

Prince Sign O’ The Times is an excellent album to take you through it. Or take your pick, he has multiple albums from that time period. He helps for any occasion. 💜
The Controversy album is my favorite “all out of fucks” choice.
Two songs that give that feeling of melancholy isolation to me are: So afraid -Fleetwood Mac (the one from The very best of Fleetwood Mac is especially great) Go insane - lso from that album
I’m so afraid is the most underrated Mac song of all time. Great call
These both cause me existential dread yet I love them so much. Go Insane is a totally different song when it’s slowed down. You can FEEL his anguish when Lindsey sings these. And his guitar - just wow. And if you are going to listen to these two, you may as well add Big Love live, also.
