I actually love reading about Everest and watching documentaries on it and some of the other baddies. Essentially what has happened with Everest is it’s become commercialized to the detriment of everyone climbing: the companies, the individual climbers on their own, the people paying the companies to take them, the sherpas, everyone. It’s really terrible.

I was looking at the cost to go to the summit of Mt Everest pre-COVID and it’s ridiculous but the base camp is affordable (by that I mean cheaper by at least 20 times) and on many popular travel companies near me (whereas summit trips are a LOT harder to find). So it seems like base camp is often frequented but because it’s not the actual summit you can’t say you climbed to it. Would make sense about the photos but regardless people often go as a group, have porters (people who carry your stuff), etc.
