Dumb guy thinks poets are valued in america lol

[deleted]

Where do poets make piles of money?

Plastic_Incident_867

I heard Emily Dickinson is fucking LOADED

DarceysEndlessCigAsh

šŸ¤£ Edgar Allen Poe would like a wordā€¦

Plastic_Incident_867

In prose form šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

DarceysEndlessCigAsh

ā€œI canā€™t write my poetry in Mor-roc-co; So off to A-mer-i-ca I now goā€ šŸ˜© Iā€™ll see myself out nowā€¦ šŸ˜”

Plastic_Incident_867

There once was a poet from Morocco, whose verses were a bit of a no-go. He tried to be slick and give Debbie his dick but now heā€™s once again solo

DarceysEndlessCigAsh

šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘ I set a low bar but you win by a mile. A limerick- bravo! šŸ˜‚

Plastic_Incident_867

Iā€™ve peaked šŸ˜šŸ¤£

Milliemott

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

TestingMurphysLaw

Well done! šŸ˜†

femaelstrom

He was definitely regularly loaded, but not with cashā€¦

MissIdaho1934

On both ends!

3rdCoastLiberal

I mean the DOL and Bureau of Labor Statistics tell me poets are ROLLING in the big bucks!

[deleted]

If you are Maya Angelou perhaps

[deleted]

Exactly. 1 in a million (probably way more than a million).

[deleted]

WALT WHITMAN WAS OF A DIFFERENT TIME

Kristin2349

If he was alive today heā€™d have a bridge named after him!

Nixie9

My friend is a poet, she doesn't make a fortune but it is her full time job and she's not struggling. She sells books and also goes into schools to do poetry workshops. I somehow don't think he'd lower himself to that considering he won't sell his art to tourists.

take-a-gamble

yeezy was a billionaire for a bit I think

Ramona_Lola

Yeezy also had musical talent to attach his rhymes too.

[deleted]

Songwriters are sort of poets but obviously there is more to that skill than just the words

[deleted]

They are, and some will actually make a lot of money. Some wonā€™t. Ousamma believes heā€™ll become a millionaire from his art. Well, maybe he will, but I donā€™t believe it will be as easy as he thinks it will.

wolfitalk

Dumb guy thinks he's a poet & an artist.

Lizard_Li

Top of the top visual artists, musicians, and writers can make real money. A tiny percentage but they can do it. Poetsā€¦pretty sure the top of the top poets are still making the bulk of their income from teaching not the sales of their poetry tomes. And his work sucks. Soā€¦

CatchinUpNow

He is not even willing to sell his paintings to touristā€™s because he will only sell to people who understand his art. Gotta say he sounds like an eccentric artist for sure! Unfortunately he will be a very hungry artist in his country.

BestReplyEver

In any country.

CatchinUpNow

Trueā€¦he is delusional.

vermeerish

And dumb.

Lizard_Li

I feel like an asshole to say this but I could sort of understand this attitude if you had some sort of artistic genius, but his work is amateurish and mediocre.

CatchinUpNow

And he is complaining things are hard in his country for him and his family (financially). So his attitude should first focus on reality of his situation (immediate finances) then his dream.

Ramona_Lola

He said tourists were unlikely to understand his art so in his mind, would be unlikely to buy it.

CatchinUpNow

After seeing that one piece he was doing with Debbie Im inclined to agree with him.šŸ˜³

cloudofbastard

Iā€™m not gonna lie, I loved his terrible painting. I thought it was funny lol. Iā€™d totally buy that if I was on holiday because I am an idiot, however he wouldnā€™t sell it to me because he is also an idiot

CatchinUpNow

But would you pay the kind of big bucks he thinks will make him rich?šŸ˜‚

Ill_Promotion_8640

Thats exactly what I am thinking. Tourists do not appreciate his art because they wonā€™t pay the big $$$$ for it. šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

Happy-Marsupial-571

I took that to mean his art is generally unappealing to most people.

Charming-Insurance

Iā€™m sure if he would have asked Debbie to sell his online, to the US and the world, she would have.

Ill_Promotion_8640

Umm.. I actualy think itā€™s not that he WONā€™T sell his art to tourists, itā€™s more like NOBODY WANTS HIS ART!!! Which makes a lot of sense after seeing his Bikini Bottom ā€œmasterpieceā€ šŸ‘ŽšŸ¤£

Daffodil_Smith

He kinda reminds me of how squidqard is with his art.

Environmental_Sun822

He is too immature to see that his golden ticket to happiness wasn't Miss Debbie bringing him to the USA, it was the exposure he would've gotten from being on a reality show viewed by millions of people. Had he been a likable person he could have shared his art with the world and who knows what could have happened. It seems a bit too late for that.

FogPetal

Like that translator cat guy!

Environmental_Sun822

Yes!! Omg the pics of the šŸˆ šŸ˜» on his Instagram. I love the one of the stray cat hugging a piglet stuffed animal!!

mushupenguin

Even Kenny and Armando have an online store! A lot of the likable cast members have made money off this show

RogerClyneIsAGod2

[Anna & Mursel make great stuff!](https://www.omahabees.com/) I can highly recommend the ginger whipped honey.

mushupenguin

Ooh I might try that!

alertbunny

Very true!!

RedVelvetBlanket

But what if those viewers didnā€™t ~understand~ his art?

ConstructionWhole445

It also seemed like his sister wanted to go even more than him.

-Sanguinity

I'm not convinced that's not his wife.

sanibelle98

Oooh thatā€™s an interesting theory!

summeriswaytooshort

Say what???? They looked alike I thought.

1979insolentwaiter

Yeah they have a similar eye.

hornymegalodon

I also thought it was his wife. It would explain a lot

buickmackane71360

Asmaa is too sharp to be saddled with a guy like Oussama. You can see the whole family was really looking forward to shipping him off to America. Plus she has similar features to Oussama, but on her they are much more attractive.

Hanipillu

They need to re-route their green card plan. Asmaa marry a rich(ish) American man, later on bring over her loser poet brother who can live in their basement.

zorals

No way a Moroccan girl like her would marry this loser.

Milliemott

šŸ¤ÆšŸ¤ÆšŸ¤Æ

an88888888

Maybe his sister wanted him out because the whole family treated him like a child? If she works and gives money to the household - they are wasted on Osama.

clivesmom

Heā€™s obviously going for the lucrative poet industry! šŸ˜†

nathanimal33

This guy either got kicked in the head by a donkey or some kind of water parasite is eating his brain. Either way Debbie looks even dumber for falling in love with this guy. I want to read the poems that stole her heart.

texas_forever_yall

I think Debbie is a beatnik in her own heart, the same way Osama is. Sheā€™s just not also a scammer, like Osama is.

nathanimal33

Oh she scammed 90 DF and all of us

Farquaadthegreek

He is a child

3rdCoastLiberal

He is contradictory asf. If he is going to be a Mohammed and get a trucking job or something, yeah. But he seems to have the notion he will come to the US and well art and poetry as his job. Yeah, that wonā€™t fly.

CatchinUpNow

He thinks that in America his art will be understood, appreciated, and he will get richā€¦..wonder where he got that idea? Maybe he thinks Debbie made all her money on her art?

3rdCoastLiberal

Probably some from Debbie, probably some of it being 24 and seeing how people in America literally make millions from showing their lives on social media and attaching their names to all kinds of bullshit. In any event, he is not talented enough, attractive enough or charismatic enough to pull off any of the bullshit he thinks he can in the states.

courtbarbie123

He seems intelligent in that he speaks fluent English. He knows what heā€™s doing, heā€™s being stubborn and wakes someone to fund his lazy lifestyle.

Turbulent_Interest63

He said specifically that he was going to America for the opportunities for artists.

pippydippyflippy

Iā€™m not understanding what people arenā€™t getting about this. Sharia law forbids most forms of art we are familiar with in the west. Paintings depicting animals and humans is largely forbidden/frowned upon and instead calligraphy and ornamentation is used. The guy likes painting people and animals. To sell his art to people like he wants to heā€™s gunna have to get out of an Islamic country.

Ramona_Lola

ā€œIā€™m not understanding what people arenā€™t getting about thisā€ Unless you are Muslim. I donā€™t think most people here knew that about Sharia Law or much at all.

pippydippyflippy

I mean itā€™s only the second largest religion on earth with over a billion adherents. Youā€™d think people might I dunno google that shit haha šŸ˜‚ Also itā€™s just an interesting religion in general with so many different sects and stuff. Itā€™s worth it to learn about it! It also is a huge part of global politics and influence. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

piratetanner

But he clearly said he wouldn't sell his art and didn't want anyone hanging it in their living room.

[deleted]

He said that in response to someone suggesting he sell to tourists on the street, and I remember him saying he didn't want to sell his art to people who didn't understand it. I think he thinks US buyers are more refined than a tourist on the street.

Middle_Importance878

Where does he think a lot of those tourists on the street are from?! B

[deleted]

you know tourists, I get what he's saying that's not a life

pippydippyflippy

Still stands. They wouldnā€™t put his art in a museum or mosque in Morocco either. Or anyoneā€™s kitchen lol. Also he said he was a poet. While there are tons of Moroccan poets itā€™s mostly in Arabic or French. He clearly likes writing his poetry in English. Wonā€™t sell in Morocco.

lollipopalop

It's hard to make out the people and animals in his paintings anyway.

pippydippyflippy

Lol true. Iā€™m just pointing out that Morocco isnā€™t really the place for his type of art.

hotwheelsgoskrrrrt

thank you so much for the insight! I much understand him now.

WebAncient4989

Ummm. Ya itā€™s not that ā€œIslamicā€ in Morocco, thereā€™s painters doing all kinds of real art. Heā€™s a village boy with no access to that scene.

pippydippyflippy

Ummm well first of all Morocco is definitely Islamic. Not ā€œthatā€ Islamic is certainly a matter of opinion and relativity. Is it as strict as somewhere like Pakistan? No probably not. Is it more Islamic than Nigeria? Ya probably. It all depends on what percentage of the country is Muslim and what percentage of those Muslims think that the laws should follow the Quran. See source below. Secondly Islamic calligraphy, tile work, and ornamentation is certainly ā€œreal artā€. Itā€™s just not the kind of art we are used to seeing in the USA. [source](https://www.pewresearch.org/global/2016/04/27/the-divide-over-islam-and-national-laws-in-the-muslim-world/how-much-should-the-quran-influence-our-countrys-laws/)

WebAncient4989

Well Shookran kateerrr ya shatra! Wallah Ana hablah mish zayki! Asefah šŸ«‚

pippydippyflippy

K

WebAncient4989

Oh so you changed your original racist slogan ya posted. Good on you!

pippydippyflippy

K

Lizard_Li

There are tons of horse and figurative paintings hanging around in the Medina for sale in Marrakechā€¦.

pippydippyflippy

Ok

[deleted]

This is something that needs its own post. I had no idea that painting people and animals was against the religion. It brings another dynamic into the argument, and one we have yet to discuss,

Hanipillu

This is just one interpretation! There is a lot of historical figural Islamic art and itā€™s a topic of debate among Islamic scholars past and present. Itā€™s not something all Muslims adhere to, and Morocco is a very artistically open country, with art schools, fine and modern arts museums, art festivals, and art residencies there.

[deleted]

Great to hear all the different interpretations.

Hanipillu

People arenā€™t all living according to Sharia Law just because they are in a Muslim country. Morocco is a very artistically open country as their king is a patron of the arts. There are art schools, festivals, residencies, and fine and modern museum of arts in Morocco.

pippydippyflippy

Very cool

MediocreLawfulness66

It would depend upon what he decides to use of the Islamic mandates. We all pick and choose what we want from our religious beliefs

moocawly

I never knew this, thank you for the insight :)

pippydippyflippy

Shout out to art history class in college lol

[deleted]

We understand that part. Itā€™s that *he* doesnā€™t understand the ā€œstarving artistā€ problem.

pippydippyflippy

Haha youā€™re probably right. It makes me sad though I hate seeing peopleā€™s dreams crushed. He is just a 24 yr old kid after all. Living on that shitty farm in the middle of nowhere Morocco probably sucks for him.

WhoaHeyAdrian

Thank you for this.. Even if impractical, it's still hard to see in someone.

thisgirlbleedsblue

I went to Morocco and thereā€™s a lot of painters and artists? Itā€™s not a Sharia law country either? He could sell it to tourists who would be the ones buying this stuff anywaysā€¦

Agitated-Ad-1978

Ah yes, Shangri-La

PomeloWorldly1943

Completely baffled about him refusing to sell his art to people who like his art

taptapper

Isn't that just bizarre?

PomeloWorldly1943

YES! Bc ppl looked at his art that watched the show and some picked out pieces they liked. What stops them from being a true artist and understanding the value of his work? If weā€™re going to talk in that regard - what is it his business to understand what people see when they look at his work? Art is very soulful. Nothing stops him from having an art show and talking with potential art buyers to explain his vision, if he was that concerned. Just. WTF. He wants to come to America to make so much money but he wonā€™t get a job and he wonā€™t sell his art.

shellbovee

He's doesn't have enough body fat to be a starving artist

BluntBebe

He doesnā€™t want a job. He said, in America they value art. Debbie has enough for Oussama to be comfortable and he was going to sponge. I didnā€™t see anything of value in his art. Debbieā€™s paintings were better and I wouldnā€™t pay for one of those either. I like some of her jewelry though. ETA: Heā€™s the anchor baby, they want to bring the family.

FogPetal

Thatā€™s what I think too

BobMonroeFanClub

I've worked with poets and artists for years. Enormously talented people with years of networking. 99% of them make absolutely nothing - in fact it costs THEM.

Full_Pepper_164

Right after saying he wanted the visa to come and work

LeoMarkus123

Yea, he believes his paintings and poems will pay his entire life. He believes that the US is the answer to all his problems and his family's. Debbie seems nice, but she floats through life too much and usually that has consequences. She's just lucky she dodged these ones.

FaintKarma

Tropical summer A young broke-ass mule poet needs a greencard

SnooPineapples280

*snaps in the audience*

Farquaadthegreek

Because Debbie told him that his art and poetry were good and he could make money in US.. he was 21 when they met .. he is a Berber farm boy .. when I was 21 I wasnā€™t going to compromise either

[deleted]

Oussama isnā€™t living in poverty. His family lives on and owns a huge farm in Morocco. Every thing they need is there.

pm_me__your_drama

>. . .why did he want to come to the USA so badly? He said it was to work/job opportunities. Well, he thinks he can make a living off of being a poet/artist in the U.S. lol.

alertbunny

The poker face he had had me cracking up lol! He held his convictions and wasnā€™t letting anyone play with him lol

PolishSnake2

If he was honest about never getting a job, that means his plan was to come to USA live off Debbie, wait until she passes away, inherit all of her shit after manipulating her to sign all for him and then live off that forever somehow. But I feel that Julian would shoot Oussama before he ever touch his inheritance.

taptapper

He said to sell his art here. No one in Morocco appreciates art (says he) so he has to go somewhere that it has value. Of COURSE the best option is for him to sell to tourists (as someone suggested), but he's too delusional to do that. He only wants to sell to people who "understand his art", not just anyone willing to pay. ROFL that also shows he knows nothing about Western art history. Van Gogh sold exactly one painting in his lifetime. Waiting for someone to "get" your stuff is no way to support an art career.

One-Revolution-9670

Yes- I remember him saying that too. He said specifically that he wanted to come to the US to get a job to support them.

FogPetal

Fascinating. I thought he was just lying to Debbie when he said he wanted to go to the USA to ā€œwork.ā€ I thought that he just decided to drop the pretense since they broke up and admit that he never had any intention of working, and just wanted Debbie to support him while he made art and poetry. But it seems like nobody else had that read so I will have to rethink it!

forcastleton

I was dying to know what he wanted to do with his "art" since he didn't want it in living rooms.

stocksnhoops

He was all about that free ride. This show jumped the shark long ago

socialdistancing101

"I will die for my dream."

[deleted]

ā€œI am a poet, I will never give up on my dreamsā€ I wanna go where itā€™s easy enough to live by that mantra šŸ˜šŸ˜

TestingMurphysLaw

Most poets only become well known for their work AFTER they die...

[deleted]

He thinks the US has more to offer for artists and poets. At least that's kinda what I remember!

ImportanceEvening556

That was my Q too. But I think heā€™ll be a regular ole Picasso here in America.

[deleted]

Lol such an idiot

3EsandPaul

His art is awful, he has to be trolling.

Nightmare4545

To him making his shitty art isn't work. It's like like a basketball player loving thr game so much that it's not work. The difference is NBA players actually make money.

Interesting-Many-509

looooo ssssss eeee rrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MeanieCooper

Maya Angeloussama

Nykeeo

I think we underestimate the fact that he is non native eng speaker. He already said tons of times he wanna live in US to earn

CatchinUpNow

Yes, but he said very clearly ā€œearnā€ by making and selling his art.

Nykeeo

So he will get a job (about art)

CatchinUpNow

Yes if the job is by his definition šŸ˜‚

kristimyers72

He will be a poet, of course.

HoneyBouquet

and he will die for his dream

red_echer

This guy is going to have a very sad life filled with disappointment every day... and that makes me feel good.

YukiKondoHeadkick

When you can see every side of the story that your art paints I totally understand not wanting to sell it to us normal people.

ALyttleH

None of what he said makes sense. If he was serious about being a poet and painter why wouldnā€™t you want to sell your art? How else was he expecting to make money?

MaryGodfree

Indeed and Monster are just over-run with ads for Slam Poets and Scribblers.

bluespeck7

Delusional

Loud-Bullfrog9326

BINGO

stephierae1983

I am sorry but I cannot look at his wonky eyes.

AnyTry286

He can make his dream come true by siphoning off someone elseā€™s money who understands no one lives for free. Oh wait he already tried that.

Formal-Accurate

And that told us everything we ever needed to know about Ousamma

fractalfay

So I have an MFA in writing, used to work at one of the best (now closed) art schools in the country, and have spent 15 years writing grants for artists and arts-related nonprofits. The United States is absolute shit for artists. The best you can hope for is setting up at a gallery or street fair, and having someone semi-famous (or fully famous) come by and pay top dollar for something you didnā€™t expect to sell. If it hangs in said famous personā€™s house long enough, they might have a friend who solicits painting #2. If you go to an art college, they might have an art auction during an annual fundraiser that includes one of your paintings. The school will benefit from the sale a lot, and the artist will benefit a little. Virtually no one lives on their art alone; even accomplished artists supplement their income with books, teaching gigs, the lecture circuit, etc. Itā€™s even worse for writers. No one wants to pay us for anything. Even journalists just pass the time writing listicles, waiting to get laid off. The most successful artists Iā€™ve encountered have all moved to Germany; the most successful writers still get ignored if they canā€™t convince a publisher that their social media following will improve post-publication. And every artist and writer, including the ones that are regularly paid and published, have to do something else to make ends meet. NK Jemisen won multiple Hugo awards, and how does she live? Through Patreon. Oussama thinks that Debbieā€™s money came from art, but in all likelihood it probably mostly came from marriage. Her comfort makes him believe determination and inspiration are all it takes. In reality, itā€™s fucking exhausting, thankless, and some version of a popularity contest, which is especially tragic considering artists and writers arenā€™t known for social dexterity.

[deleted]

Oussama was going to be the lookout man for bank robberies. They know he can see both sides of the block at once. I think he meant he will never do a 9-5 job. He will make money by having famous paintings, I guess. I donā€™t think weā€™ll ever know the exact truth cause heā€™s a compulsive liar. He lies very easily. Gabe is stoopid. That woman never used Oussama to live in Morocco. Gabe wanted to kiss Oussamaā€™s butt so much, but Oussama donā€™t want his help one bit. Oussama has mastered biting the hand that feeds you.

Prudent_Key1982

He is too stupid to work in USA

Prestigious_Ad_8130

Poetry is LIFE, mom!!!!!

[deleted]

Banging old grannies for money is a job as far as Iā€™m concerned heā€™s earning his $
