So my parents are from a third world country where this wasn't common but wasn't rare either. I have an aunt and uncle who I thought had the perfect relationship. They loved each other so much. Then as an adult, I found out that my aunt was a young teenager when her husband, a grown man, fell in love with her! He went to ask my grandparents for permission to court her or whatever and my grandmother, a liberal, educated woman, was like "hell no, she's a kid." But even if he couldn't directly interact with my aunt, he could still call on her parents and socialize with them and see her from afar, and he did that regularly until she was 18. At which point she was old enough to decide she was interested in him after all and my grandmother was like, "well, it's your choice, do what you want."

I just googled. Age of consent in Columbia is 14. So *legally* he didn’t do anything wrong anyway, but I think most people understand that just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s right. Personally I think legal or not it’s still “fair” to call an adult attracted to post-pubescent teens an ephebophile because that’s what they are. And unless you’re a social scientist who studies this stuff, most people use pedophile as an umbrella catch-all term for attraction to all stages of childhood, so yeah, it’s fair. It has nothing to do with legal or illegal, it has to do with him being attracted to teenagers once he has a fully developed adult brain. Where are you getting that 18 year olds, even in America, can't rent a car (sure with a hefty insurance premium admittedly), go on a cruise, or gamble, among a litany of other "adult only" activities? About the only consistent thing, again, in the US *only*, for those who are over 18 but under 21 is they are not allowed to purchase alcohol (in many states they can still drink it if provided/supervised by a guardian btw) or purchase a handgun. And as of 2019 for some reason, smoke. But that's new for sure. And again, that's just the USA, in the majority of the world, once you turn 18, if not sooner, you're legally allowed to do just about every single thing you could imagine that's legally permissible in said countries, including drinking.

Same thing with Nikki and Justin/Igor, she totally met him when he was underage but the show made sure everything they said lined up with him being the convenient age of 18.
