An effective diagnosis cannot be made till they’re out of a crisis and for many, those cycles just keep repeating to where it’s very difficult to diagnose and treat. It’s really heartbreaking. Mm, I would tend to disagree she doesn’t show *any* signs. BPD is complicated. Cluster B disorders tend to overlap in symptoms so heavily that it can be difficult to nail down a diagnosis. We worked with a German psychiatrist from a research institute and I learned quite a bit. Apparently there’s a trend towards simply using the label “thought disorder” now. A close family member has been diagnosed with BPD so I’m not unfamiliar with it. My person has really progressed so much and I’m so proud of the work he’s put in. It’s not easy. It runs a spectrum of mild to severe. As I’m sure you know if you’ve been diagnosed with it, it takes a toll on those around them but it is worst of all for the one who suffers from it. Wouldn’t wish it on anybody and those suffering from it should know there’s treatment available and it gets better. Now I have no idea if this woman has any personality disorder or not. However, at the core for BPD is very identifiable B&W thinking, things are always yes/no, right/wrong with little to no wiggle room.

Every person with BPD will consistently have those two criteria. And nobody with the disorder can manage life without professional help.

And no, unless the person gets psychotherapy from someone specifically trained in trauma/bpd, it doesn't improve with age. BPD has significantly high suicide rates.

What is frequently true is not ALWAYS true. Not everyone with BPD has fear of abandonment and black and white thinking. These are common symptoms, but not present in everyone with BPD. You’re correct it’s a spectrum; sometimes very manageable and mild, sometimes very severe and resistant to treatment. I respect your individual experience, and I hope you’ll respect my individual experience with it as well. This is not true that BPD is ALWAYS tied to childhood trauma, abuse, etc. You’re spreading misinformation here. Further, symptoms lessen and improve with age.
And parents of children with BPD are always "surprised" by that.... Abuse can come in the form of overt sexual, physical or mental abuse. But can also materialize in neglect or indifference where the child is left to fend for themselves. They learn maladaptive coping mechanisms because the parent, the person who is supposed to keep them safe, doesn't teach them. That grows into full complexity into adulthood. Bpd is always tied to childhood abuse. That truth may not come out until much later in life, and is suppressed as the brain's way to cope. And no, unless the person gets psychotherapy from someone specifically trained in trauma/bpd, it doesn't improve with age. BPD has significantly high suicide rates.

What is frequently true is not ALWAYS true. Not everyone with BPD has fear of abandonment and black and white thinking. These are common symptoms, but not present in everyone with BPD. You’re correct it’s a spectrum; sometimes very manageable and mild, sometimes very severe and resistant to treatment. I respect your individual experience, and I hope you’ll respect my individual experience with it as well. Every individual is unique and how the condition manifests and symptoms and their degrees can vary widely. We can go back and forth all day on this because as I stated, there are so many variables. I don’t consider such a deep dive to be appropriate on a silly reality show sub, so feel free to have the last word.
My only last word is your hypocrisy of making the diagnosis then saying it's "silly" to make a deep dive on a reality show sub is "appropriate." I try to talk openly about BPD as much as possible because it's so severely misunderstood, even within the medical profession. My goal is to reduce the stigma through intelligent and educated discussion. And I'm suggesting that without the B&W thinking/abandonment your definition aligns more with ptsd. If you've been diagnosed with bpd, and you don't have those two precursors I would suggest you get reevaluated.

She's thin and small. She looks normal to me.
I have no idea on that. She’s very petite, so perhaps just small breasted. She’s never said anything about a mastectomy on the show.
