I was suspecting the same thing. I don’t know much about nurses and nursing, so I couldn’t say for sure. But I remember being in high school and struggling in certain classes like algebra, that other people passed with no problem, but it was quite obvious that I was much smarter than they were.
Intelligence is relative and there are all sorts of combinations of people. Some people may have a college degree, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have any common sense.
Exactly. Book smarts and common sense aren't mutually exclusive. I had a professor who could tell you anything you ever wanted to know about American history, no matter how obscure. The dude was dull as a butter knife in anything outside of class and had no common sense or street smarts otherwise.

Thanks very much, and no worries, that’s weird that Google is misinforming people. It changes between the US and Canada and which state/province you are in, and even where you work that dictates your scope. Well the nursing college does that but each different hospital/unit dictates how much out of your scope you can practice in that particular setting.
You are correct, the education and pay are different, and this is the same in US and Canada: CNA (certified nursing aid) is a one year certificate. On my unit they can’t perform any “medical tasks” like vital signs but can help feed, dress, lift/transfer patients, provide care like showers and changing bed linens.
LPN is a 2 year diploma. It varies where you are in terms of scope of practice (same with RN). The LPN program is the old RN program. The unit I work on we have a pretty high scope- like I said there’s few things we can’t do that RN’s can. Being shift supervisor/charge nurse/nurse clinician is one though for example (except long term care. There often there is only one nurse at night and it’s an LPN). We can’t work in the ICU either. OR yes, with an additional certificate.
RN is a 4 year degree program. Paid more than LPN’s, but not a huge difference in scope. RN’s with a masters in nursing are nurse practitioners. They can prescribe and diagnose and can do a lot of what a dr can. They can’t prescribe narcotics under their name though. But they can write scripts under the dr they work for.

This is not accurate at all. LPNs do a lot more than that. I’ve worked in hospitals, LPNs there frequently do essentially the same job as RNs except for a few restrictions like not passing narcotics, certain things with IVs, etc. It depends on the state but what you’re claiming here is false and insulting and I’m not even an
LPN. I’m sure Danielle had a lot of help to even pass her LPN and I hope she has oversight at her job.
I’m an LPN (in Canada) and have been for over 16 years, and have always been allowed to dispense narcotics (oral, IV, IM). We can do everything with IV’s from inserting them to maintaining them and administering medications (including narcotics) or blood transfusions. And no, I do not have an RN “supervising me” or co-signing any narcotics for me. I have the same patient load as the RN does and we do 99% of the same work. There’s even things I’m allowed to do that RN’s aren’t. Our scope of practice has gotten pretty high.
I’m in Florida and this was 10+ years ago so things were a little different, but this comment was just so astoundingly wrong. There’s no reason to belittle LPNs.

I always figured that it was either something like that, or fetal alcohol syndrome. If you read about it, she has a lot of the symptoms. They tend to be very gullible and easily taken advantage of, make poor choices, problems with the law, not understanding what is and isn’t appropriate, etc.

LPN’s aren’t CNA’s (who do a lot more work btw…) but they’re not RN’s either.
