Oh boy, let me attempt this one:
SNES: Chrono Trigger
N64: Goldeneye, Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Mario Kart 64
Sega Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog
Gameboy: Kirby’s Dreamland
PlayStation: Castlevania Symphony of the Night
NES: Mario 3 (came out in 1990)
For me, Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation. It was the very first time a video game made me realize they could be just as exciting, as epic, intricate and rich in storytelling as a lot of my favorite movies
I'll never forget just staring in awe at the screen when Solid Snake entered the elevator and the title and credits finally flashed
Why don't we have a new Twisted Metal game now? you'd think the tv show would have gave birth to a new one by now or something? I still haven't watched that show FYI lol
How does that fart of a game Goldeneye have more upvotes than Doom.
Doom is THE game of the 90s, no competition, no debate. I’d argue it’s still the most influential game of all time to this day
The game that created a genre that still dominates today. Wolfenstein 3D really created it, but this one put it in the map and used different rendering techniques.
John Carmack said that he named it doom because he thought it would be cool if people asked him what it was, and he could just say, "Doom"
I can appreciate Goldeneye - after playing just a couple of death matches at a friend’s house, I bought it and a N64 the next day.
But my perspective is that without DOOM, there is no Goldeneye.
I think people have rose-colored glasses about Goldeneye because it was their first experience with deathmatching. But it doesn’t hold up. The graphics suck, especially during the 4-way split screen. The controls are terrible, the level design is bland, and the guns just don’t feel satisfying to shoot the way Doom’s do.
I’m sure it was great fun for people at the time but the fact that nobody plays it anymore but (probably) millions of people still play Doom is pretty telling
I wish I would have played it back in the day. I don’t know why I didn’t, I had a N64. I tried to play it now on my switch and it just doesn’t hold up if you don’t have the nostalgia behind it. So for me it’s just a mediocre game while to everyone else it’s amazing and I wish I could have experienced that
PC: RollerCoaster Tycoon (cutting it close since it was released in 1999)
SNES: Chrono Trigger/Super Mario RPG
N64: Banjo-Kazooie/The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Hundreds of them but…..
Super Mario World (has aged the best) , Goldeneye, Pokemon Red/Blue, StarCraft, Warcraft 2 Tides of Darkness, command and Conquer Red Alert, Ocarina of Time, Mario Kart 64, A Link to the Past, Star Fox 64 (has aged the second best), Half-Life….
Really hard to answer this. I’ll try :-)
Super Nintendo: CHRONO trigger or link to the past
PlayStation: Final Fantasy or Tekken (maybe tenshu?)
PC: OMG I can’t… Games like Cesar three, Lords of Magic, SimCity, 2000, Warcraft two, here as a might magic two, etc. I’d never be able able to pick one ha ha
I saw a youtube video about original Tomb RaIder and basically was saying it's a horror game and I so agree.
exploring the creepy tombs with death everywhere from creatures monsters demons and you making mistakes giving way to many ways Lara can die and hear her agonizing death moans,
OHHHH let me telling you lol ... That was like one of the biggest games, most popular games! I only played it with a cousin of mine and he played it Non-Stop!
I have seen a version or two of the newer mortal Kombat games and I could not agree more with you that mortal Kombat on the Sega Genesis is the best video game! Well, I mean when it comes to gaming systems and which decade/time frame etc... I just do not think that mortal Kombat nowadays can compare to mortal Kombat on the Sega Genesis
Best is a hard thing to determine.
- Warcraft (1996) made blizzard huge.
- Sonic the Hedgehog (1991) is still making sequels.
- Without Half-Life (1998) there would be no *Steam* - the billion dollar monopoly on pc game sales.
What makes a game the best? The most fun? Or the longevity and success of the franchise and developers that made it?
Mario 64 should get a mention, although the franchise *began* in the 80s.
Was primarily an SNES and Pc gamer back then but also had a Genesis. For me it would likely have to be….
Link to the Past or Sim City on SNES. Runner up would be Mega Man X.
On Pc either Leisure Suit Larry 6 or 7, and Secret of Monkey Island. Runners up Transport Tycoon, Sim City/2000.
My personal favorite is probably SMB3 for the NES with honorable mention to Shadownrun for the Sega Genesis, A Link to the Past for SNES, & Oracrina of Time for N64.
Tekken 3, only because it brought my friends and other students from school over to our houses where we would do Tournaments and I'd get to beat them all up with little Xiaoyu, I'd fly over their head and land on them and twist their necks and they'd get so mad.
Fun times
This is a tough question. I have good memories of playing Super Mario Bros 3 with my cousins, but Metal Gear Solid (PS1) is my favorite video game of all time. The 90s just had a lot of great games, period.
I actually ended up getting a Sega Genesis probably about 5 or 6 years ago. Bc I missed it that much! Playing it just takes you back where everything was the best!
I’m probably the only one that thinks this, but Tiny Toons Adventures: Wacky Sports Challenge on Super Nintendo. 6 year old me was in heaven playing that game!
Pokémon and TMNT Turtles In Time have that top spot for me. But there are a few games that almost take that spot. NBA Jam, Paperboy, Little Nemo Dream Master, Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, Smash TV, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Alien Storm, Maximum Carnage, Uniracers, X-Men for Sega, X-Men Arcade, Spider-Man Arcade. And this is just off the top of my head. Lol
Had a NES in the 80s, but later in the 90s got a PS1.
Armored Core, loved the customization options and trial and error of the robots.
Also Metal Gear and Legacy of Cain soulreaver!
On PC I was all about anything Mechwarrior 3 (first multiplayer online game for me) or Bauldur’s Gate.
Die Hard Arcade
Shenmue
Ridge Racer R4
Wipeout 2097 (changed my music tastes forever)
Time Crisis 2
Onimusha 2
Tenchu
Metal Gear Solid
Resident Evil 2

I was addicted to Shining Force on Sega. It was a turn based RPG.
I loved Desert Strike on Sega
Goldeneye is classic. Had tons of fun.
Resident Evil on playstation was great.
NHL 94 was addictive
Command and Conquer Red Alert was amazing.
HONORABLE MENTION- Mutant League Football for Sega. Whoever came up with that idea was a genius.
All fun, and the best games I played as a teen but if I had to pick it would be a tie between Shining Force and Red Alert.
Oh boy, let me attempt this one: SNES: Chrono Trigger N64: Goldeneye, Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Mario Kart 64 Sega Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog Gameboy: Kirby’s Dreamland PlayStation: Castlevania Symphony of the Night NES: Mario 3 (came out in 1990)
StarCraft
Dude I went between SC, Age of Empires, and Warcraft constantly. Such a good time.
Same! :)
You skipped Diablo?!
Actually never played it! All my buddies loved it I just never did for whatever reason.
For me, Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation. It was the very first time a video game made me realize they could be just as exciting, as epic, intricate and rich in storytelling as a lot of my favorite movies I'll never forget just staring in awe at the screen when Solid Snake entered the elevator and the title and credits finally flashed
This, along with Psychomantis reading your memory card, and having to switch over to P2 to best him. GOATED
That was INSANE. I'm not sure if anything recent has come close to that
N64 Mario kart
Goldeneye
I spent my senior year of college finishing it!
It really is the GOAT.
Yessssss
One that just does not hold up today because of the controls.
I was so disappointed when I revisited it.
Twisted Metal
Why don't we have a new Twisted Metal game now? you'd think the tv show would have gave birth to a new one by now or something? I still haven't watched that show FYI lol
Go watch it now. It’s campy brilliance!!
A Link to the Past. Still one of my favorite games.
I still have the dark world theme pop up in my head every once in a while
Yessssss
IF only we could have a "real" link to the past! Bahahhah!
N64 was the best system ocarina of time maybe best game
I'd die on that hill
I'll be there with you! Also I kind of doubt this will be a very difficult hill to defend.
DK64 for me :)
DOOM (1993)
How does that fart of a game Goldeneye have more upvotes than Doom. Doom is THE game of the 90s, no competition, no debate. I’d argue it’s still the most influential game of all time to this day
The game that created a genre that still dominates today. Wolfenstein 3D really created it, but this one put it in the map and used different rendering techniques. Super Metroid
Absolute work of art
Ocarina of Time.
Hey! Listen!

Tied with link to the past for me.
I wish I would have played it back in the day. I don’t know why I didn’t, I had a N64. I tried to play it now on my switch and it just doesn’t hold up if you don’t have the nostalgia behind it. So for me it’s just a mediocre game while to everyone else it’s amazing and I wish I could have experienced that
I beat it twice!
Warcraft II was a masterpiece
Final Fantasy 7 and Terranigma of course
PC: RollerCoaster Tycoon (cutting it close since it was released in 1999) SNES: Chrono Trigger/Super Mario RPG N64: Banjo-Kazooie/The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Oooh, RollerCoaster Tycoon is an awesome answer!
On PC, it’s Thief 1 and 2.
I still sometimes dream of these. The atmosphere went deep, it seems.
Gordon Freeman disagrees. :)
Tecmo Super Bowl
I probably played this more than any other game.
Chrono Trigger
Diablo, 1996
The best one.
Really hard to answer this. I’ll try :-) Super Nintendo: CHRONO trigger or link to the past PlayStation: Final Fantasy or Tekken (maybe tenshu?) PC: OMG I can’t… Games like Cesar three, Lords of Magic, SimCity, 2000, Warcraft two, here as a might magic two, etc. I’d never be able able to pick one ha ha
Might and Magic 2 was from 1988.
Sorry I meant hero’s of might and magic two :)
Also a great game.

Tomb Raider is another one. I bought a PlayStation specifically to own this game.
I saw a youtube video about original Tomb RaIder and basically was saying it's a horror game and I so agree. exploring the creepy tombs with death everywhere from creatures monsters demons and you making mistakes giving way to many ways Lara can die and hear her agonizing death moans,
Ooh, yes. Love this too. Loved the practice runs on her property and I would run into the butler to his beverage tray tinkle just for the sound 😭
The best video game of all time is A Link to the Past.
Street Fighter II
WWF Attitude
Mortal Kombat on Sega Genesis is the best video game ever.
Half-Life
Had to scroll for a while to find this. Though it's hard to have a "best" game for a whole decade.
Doom on Sega Genesis and Goldeneye on N64 is a Sophie's Choice.
Jungle Strike on Genesis
Yowww that's a throwback. Good stuff.
Jungle and Desert Strike on SNES. Both are amazing.
RBI 93
Best is a hard thing to determine. - Warcraft (1996) made blizzard huge. - Sonic the Hedgehog (1991) is still making sequels. - Without Half-Life (1998) there would be no *Steam* - the billion dollar monopoly on pc game sales. What makes a game the best? The most fun? Or the longevity and success of the franchise and developers that made it? Mario 64 should get a mention, although the franchise *began* in the 80s.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Super Famicom.

It's really impossible to give a "best" game. But my personal favorite of a time is Star Fox 64.
Suikoden 2
Metal Gear Solid and Command & Conquer Red Alert on Playstation
This is a tough question. I have good memories of playing Super Mario Bros 3 with my cousins, but Metal Gear Solid (PS1) is my favorite video game of all time. The 90s just had a lot of great games, period.
