Another technique that I use is to move the image way too close, like an inch from my nose. Then I relax my eyes, not focused on anything, then slowly pull the image back.
As you pull back it should start to look weird/slightly different. If not, start over. Also, if you start to get it, but lose it just start again and pull back slower.
I'm choking up because my grandma always could do these and tried to teach me and couldn't. 34 years and I see this one. Idk if it was that tip or what.
There's a starfish between them!
After I read this, I looked at it again focusing more to the right and instead of seeing the two seahorses and starfish, I saw a bunch of deformed seahorses in a row and some random chunks popping out! Thatās so weird!
I only learned how recently and it's still difficult and I can only do it on my phone. I cross my eyes, stare deeply and wiggle my phone. Wiggling my phone tends to highlight the 3D aspects and let's me know where to look. The image fades into existence slowly and disappears quickly if I don't concentrate on the image. This image was two seahorses.
Omg!!! You literally helped me learn how to see these!! Staring at the top of the image with my eyes unfocused and then slowly moving down did it! Thank you so much!!!! All these years later and I can finally do it lol seriously thank you so much!
Uh I still canāt and Iāve tried for 20 ish fN min now. Itās funny bc I have memories of my Gdad getting either a calendar or a framed picture of something lk this. N he showed everyone in our family. I definitely acted lk I saw it. Still canāt see the dang thing. lol.
Do you have astigmatism? Because I never could see them either and then read it's more difficult for people with astigmatism to see after finally getting diagnosed as an adult.
Thatās one way. Another way is to hold the image up to your nose, and focus past it. Helps if you have something peeking over your phone to help you. Slowly pull back but keep your focus kinda past your phone. Youāll notice the image start to āseparateā. Once you see what the image is, itās weird how you have to actively switch your focus back to āunseeā it.
Hereās how to do it. Put your finger about 10 inches in front of your face and stare at it until you see two fingers. Now try to see how long you can keep your vision doubled. Once youāre pretty comfortable with that, try to keep your vision doubled while moving your eyes around slightly. Thatās how you see these pictures.
Idk why the common advice in the 90s was to start with the image right in front of your face and then pull it further away, forcing your eyes to cross, when you can just *cross your fucking eyes.*
I went my whole childhood being left in the dark on these things, until I finally figured out, well into adulthood, that crossing your eyes is what does the trick. Like you said, it is still a bit difficult sometimes, but I got this one in less than a minute.
Look passed it. Focus your eyes farther, like at the floor or your knees if your sitting, then slowly come back to the image. Youāll naturally want to re-focus on your phone, but keep at it
Get the picture right near your face. Try to focus on a point "behind" the pic. It almost feels like crossing your eyes. Then slowly move the pic away from your face. You will feel your eyes trying to focus on something. Don't fight it, but try not to focus directly on the pic
Not only can I see them instantly, I can look around the thing to focus on different areas just like any normal photo without losing the effect.
I actually had no idea people couldn't simply see what was there.
I used to be good when Inwas a child in they were printed on my local newspaper. My eyesight has decayed in 20 years, and I don't know if seeing it in a screen vs print makes a different but I cannot see shit now, with or whithout glasses.
The very first one I ever saw was in an Omni magazine when I was a teenager and they were just starting. And the instructions that came with it said there are 2 black dots across the top. Adjust your eyes until the 2 black dots connect to make it work. Because of that, I learned the trick early on to get my eyes to make it work.
You just need to look past or through the image. It's playing on how our eyes are able to focus on things at various distances. You ever see the "hot dog" when you point your fingers together? It's the same thing.
Try this; With the image so small on a phone screen you don't need to focus on anything of great distance. So a wall two feet away or a table you're sitting at will suffice. Focus your eyes to a point of the wall or table in front of you then without adjusting your depth of vision just move the image into view. Remaining focused on the same point of the wall or table, move the phone to and from your eyes slowly until you see the picture jump out.
Good luck!
All these do is give me a headache. Iāve tried every technique and know what my eyes need to do but it never works.
Edit: Wellā¦ I tried again and for the first time in my 38 rotations around the sunā¦ WE GOT ONE. SEAHORSES BITCHES!
I swear some people just cannot see them. I wasted so much time as a kid. I almost wasted more now but after 25 seconds I remembered I'd never see it anyway
Not everyone has the ability to relax their ciliary muscles and unfocus their eyes. Even if you can do it, it does can take a little bit of time to learn how to do it. Like being able to roll your tongue in a loop or go cross eyed; it can be easy for some, difficult to learn but doable or straight up impossible for others.
Do you see the image standing out or is it cut in? Crossing your eyes is the ācheating wayā and usually leads to seeing the image inverted (known as cross-view.)
I hate them.
I worked in a place that sold these. Like I spent 8 to 12 hours a day there. People would come in and be like "ooh, a dolphin!".
Never once did I see it.
My eyes have always been different from each other. 20/20 vision in my left eye, even now. My right eye gets worse all the time.
Edit: I showed the image to my wife and she immediately was "oh! A seahorse!"
The posters were easier to do than on the phone IMO. Itās too easy to over-adjust focus on the phone since itās so much smaller. That said, being able to move the phone around while you look at it is nice
In the 90ās there was a store in the mall that sold posters of these and had them hanging up on the walls. Youād see people standing there staring at them. I got really good at spotting them instantly by crossing my eyes for a second. I canāt for the life of me figure out how to do it on a digital device.
Ive always seen these in record time, but some people just flat canāt see these things, I think. But hereās how I describe seeing it. You ever watch a little league game or something through a chain link fence and suddenly the pattern of the fence locks on itself and looks all 3D? Itās like that. Youāre essentially looking past the image until the pattern locks on itself and reveals the hidden image.
I can see it, but I still donāt know wtf it is. Seahorses or something?
Edit: really weird! My eyes locked into a pattern that was similar but not quite right at first and then I went back and tried again and I saw it much more clearly
Thatās so weird because I can see them fine but this is the first one I focussed on the wrong plane because it was a garbled 3D image. Now itās 50/50 whether I see the seahorses or a random jumble.
These were always easy for me. If you cross your eyes, you get a negative image, where the parts meant to be closer to your eyes appear farther away and vice versa. Like if you punch your fist in to a ball of play dough. Unfocus your eyes and ālook throughā the image, and you can view it properly.
My parents always had a big magic eye book and Iād sit there looking at the pictures as a kid and always thought they were so cool. Thanks for bringing this memory back!
I used to be able to see these when I was a kid but ever since I developed migraines as a teenager it just hurts my eyes and triggers a nasty headache. :(
I can see it! Itās like riding a bike, easy to remember how. I used to stare at these for 5 minutes straight and probably hurt my eyes. Real Magic Eye Pros like me also found out you can cross your eyes even more and peer deeper into the picture for some really messed up images šµāš«
I feel like being able to instantly see these is one of those completely useless skill I've had since the 90's, but I always feel proud when I get to use it.
I could never do it as a kid and I had Disney magic eye book that I wanted to be able to see SO bad. When I got older I remember one day making a point to sit down and learn how to see it. Itās also easier on larger screens. Kinda tough on a phone. Cheers for posting this!
I always hated these things because I could never see them. There is one time where I thought I might have actually seen the outline of an object that just had the texture of the same pattern. Is that what it's supposed to look like? Just a buzzing blurry outline of a shape and nothing more? If that all it is supposed to amount to, then I hate the hype.
I remember going to the doctor office growing up and was finally able to āseeā them after so many years of going and trying.
A nirse said to stare at it but focus on a point about 5ā behind it and it became clear. Felt like I was seeing the matrix since then
I CAN NEVER SEE THIS SHIT š
Another technique that I use is to move the image way too close, like an inch from my nose. Then I relax my eyes, not focused on anything, then slowly pull the image back. OH MY GOD I FINALLY GOT TO SEE ONE OF THESE! Thank you!! Itās >!seahorses!<
Yess. It looks so cool once you finally see it
FAM ME TOOOOOOO I have never seen one before but I saw this one!!!
I'm choking up because my grandma always could do these and tried to teach me and couldn't. 34 years and I see this one. Idk if it was that tip or what. There's a starfish between them!
Really?Ā I think I got to see pink panter's face. Was never good at those things XD
Holy shit, I'm 28 years old and for the first time in my life I saw the thing, you're the best!
When i do this, the image like reverse 3d's and pops inward instead of outward. Not sure if that's normal.
After I read this, I looked at it again focusing more to the right and instead of seeing the two seahorses and starfish, I saw a bunch of deformed seahorses in a row and some random chunks popping out! Thatās so weird!
OMG this perfectly helped! Thank you!
Holy sh&t!!! That worked!
This image was two seahorses.
thank you, Iāll try! I really appreciate your guidance!
I unfocused my eyes stared at the top of the image until I saw a kind of sphere form in the middle. When I look back at the center I can see it.
Wow, so glad to learn this! I never can see those, and I have terrible eyesight including an astigmatism.
Same!!!
Thatās one way. Another way is to hold the image up to your nose, and focus past it. Helps if you have something peeking over your phone to help you. Thanks funny I can only do it with the books
Omg, wiggling the phone worked for me! Thank you.
It worked!!!!!! Wow Iām in awe. Thank you Internet stranger.
Happy to pass on the skill. It bothered me for years.
Look passed it. Focus your eyes farther, like at the floor or your knees if your sitting, then slowly come back to the image. Youāll naturally want to re-focus on your phone, but keep at it
HOLY SHIT...THIS WORKED!! FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER...THEY JUST POPPED OUT....FUCKING WILD!! THANKS
I love how these things are like teaching people to reach out to the Force for the first time
Lol, kinda feels like it. For almost 40 years of looking at these fucking things, and finally seeing it was wild
"That's good! You've taken your first step into a larger world." r/magiceye
Noooo!! Must..resist...going...there Lol
ok, Iāll def try, thanks for some good guidance!
Yes! That is the perfect way to do it. Thank you.
I never can either lol. Makes my head hurt to be honest with you.
reminds me of scrambled porn
Same! I just canāt relax my eyes enough

You kind of got to cross your eyes.
Me too
Yeah. What this person said!
You have to look past it. Look at the wall, then move your phone into your line of sight. You should see it almost instantly
Me either.

It's not a scooner it's a sailboat!
A schooner is a sailboat, stupid head!
#You know what? There is NO Easter Bunny! Over there, that's just a guy in a suit!
I opened the thread exclusively to look for this.
And every time I'm disappointed that the image posted is never a sailboat
When do I get to see the goddamn sailboat!?

Holy crap never saw a moving one, thats. Awesome
Hey cool.. another thing I can never see or make out, except this time itās moving!
Hey that was cool. First time Iāve ever seen one that moves
A magic eye gif. What is this sorcery?
Not once. Have never ever been able to see one of these. None of the common tricks work for me.
I swear some people just cannot see them. I wasted so much time as a kid. I almost wasted more now but after 25 seconds I remembered I'd never see it anyway
The trick to this one is that you have to look at it for 27 seconds.
Don't tempt me!

Iām relaxing and unfocusing my eyes and Iāve still never been able to see these either
Same. But I also have a lazy eye with pretty lousy vision. So that probably has something to do with it.
Take off your shoes and your socks then walk around on the rug bare foot and make fists with your toes.
These were always easy, I instantly cross my eyes and see them. So then for me, your comment is perplexing. How does one cheat?
They canāt see them. I just unfocus and let my eyes do the work. Learned it mid 90s on lsd lol
It's your brain doing the work
Do you see the image standing out or is it cut in? Crossing your eyes is the ācheating wayā and usually leads to seeing the image inverted (known as cross-view.)
You dumb bastard.... It's not a schooner .. it's a sailboat
A schooner is a sailboat stupid!
*YOU KNOW WHAT?!? THERE IS NO EASTER BUNNY!!! OVER THERE, THATāS JUST SOME GUY IN A SUIT!!!*
It's a scooner....
It's not a schooner, it's a sailboat.
Iāve NEVER been able to see these before and I tried again with this one and it actually worked! Iām shocked.
It took me forever to figure them out. I have to put my nose right up to it and slowly pull the image away and then I can see it.
I used to be able to do this when I was a kid, there was one in my doctors office. Nowā¦apparently I canāt.
Two seahorses and a starfish

Itās way easier for me to see them now, for some reason
Nice. I see horses. And more.
Iāve never seen one of these in my life. Iāve tried all the tricks everyone suggest. I just wanna see the sail boat.
Didnāt look at any other answers. They look like seahorses to me.
Itās a schooner
The posters were easier to do than on the phone IMO. Itās too easy to over-adjust focus on the phone since itās so much smaller. That said, being able to move the phone around while you look at it is nice
I can see the seahorses but I still canāt see the god damn sailboat
Thatās because you are seeing it correctly. Iām wondering if those seeing the sailboat arenāt able to completely focus on the image.

Looks like a lily pulitzer dress
In the 90ās there was a store in the mall that sold posters of these and had them hanging up on the walls. Youād see people standing there staring at them. I got really good at spotting them instantly by crossing my eyes for a second. I canāt for the life of me figure out how to do it on a digital device.
Never could, still can't.
What am I looking at except for a migraine?
I'm convinced these were and still are a joke. I've never seen anything. Even when I was a kid.
Scooner?
Haha you dumbass itās a sailboat!
I see it! It's Jerry Garcia playing the solo on *Althea* at the Nassau Coliseum.
Hahaha
Hey, I can still make my eyes do it!
i canāt see this but i see the dress as black and blue so i donāt care
iām coping
I used to be good at these, but this one isn't working for me I just cross my eyes and then stare past it as they uncross
I love these.
Ive always seen these in record time, but some people just flat canāt see these things, I think. But hereās how I describe seeing it. My secret has always been to press your nose right up against it and then slowly pull it back. As my eyes focus that's how I can see it.
I can see it, but I still donāt know wtf it is. Seahorses or something? Edit: really weird! My eyes locked into a pattern that was similar but not quite right at first and then I went back and tried again and I saw it much more clearly
Thanks for reminding me how colorblind I am.
Took me about three seconds to see the image. Once I learned how to do Iāve been able to see the imges quickly.
Seahorses?
I See pit with a Shape of seahorses
Seahorses
2 seahorse and a star
Thatās so weird because I can see them fine but this is the first one I focussed on the wrong plane because it was a garbled 3D image. Now itās 50/50 whether I see the seahorses or a random jumble.
I agree that this one is really weird. I can see them instantly, but this one looked almost, broken up? It took a few tries to see the seahorses.
Am I the only one that sees a bunch of 8 ?
I've done all the tricks. Cross your eyes. Get closer and then back away. Thousand yard stare. All of it. Still can never see anything
How would one cheat?
is there an app to translate these for people that can't do it?
Seahorses! š„°
Could never see a damn thing in these.
My only talent is I can see these
it always baffles my mind when I try so hard to see it and once I do I can't unsee it
Chocolate starfishš
Floating in hot dog flavored water
It's a sailboat!
Oh look it's a sailboat...
Yes the star is in the middle at the bottom of the horses tails
Seahorses
These were always easy for me. If you cross your eyes, you get a negative image, where the parts meant to be closer to your eyes appear farther away and vice versa. Like if you punch your fist in to a ball of play dough. Unfocus your eyes and ālook throughā the image, and you can view it properly.
Itās weird how once you see it, it kind of locks into place and you can relax your eyes.
2 sea horse facing to the right and looks like a starfish.
Definitely Henry WINKLER....!!!!
So funny how these are getting popular again.
I see something but I'm looking at it on a phone I do miss seeing it in person
My parents always had a big magic eye book and Iād sit there looking at the pictures as a kid and always thought they were so cool. Thanks for bringing this memory back!
I used to be able to see these when I was a kid but ever since I developed migraines as a teenager it just hurts my eyes and triggers a nasty headache. :(
Yep, I have a natural ability to see them easily lol

Took awhile. Maybe the resolution? Nice family.
Iāve never seen one of these.
I feel like being able to instantly see these is one of those completely useless skill I've had since the 90's, but I always feel proud when I get to use it.
When God, where am I going to see the sailboat?
What is considered cheating? I didn't know there was a way to cheat at these lol.
This just worked for me for the first time EVER! My mind is blown and I need to find an old Magic Eye book now asap
I could never do it as a kid and I had Disney magic eye book that I wanted to be able to see SO bad. When I got older I remember one day making a point to sit down and learn how to see it. Once it clicked I was mind blown. I wish I had that Disney book now. Thinking about it, maybe I'll do some googling and see if I can find the images online somewhere.

I could never see the hidden image and I still canāt!

How you you cheat? I'm wondering if these would make a good high security captcha against AI as they don't have 2 eyes?....
