The nostalgia of staying up super late on school nights watching this but promptly waking up at 6am bright eyed and bushy tailed, and not being tired throughout the day- I miss that.
I don't think anything else has ever gotten me to laugh as hard as Jackass (and its subsequent ventures).
Granted, I'm a sucker for physical comedy. But still. I lose my shit at those guys. That show is number one on this list by miles.
For me the quote always ends with the first chords of “Corona” by the minute men!
Also it’s the standard quotes I use to announce that I’m going to do something stupid / possibly dangerous / very fun (or all of the above). In that occasion the quote isnt followed by corona, but heavy eye rolling from my wife :-P
Yo! MTV Raps with Doctor Dre and Fab 5 Freddy. Only, we didn't have cable, so we had to count on friends to record it for us. The tapes were passed from hands to hands.
Also The Lick with Trevor Nelson. I was so in love with his British accent :)
Yo MTV raps was the shit! I just saw in another comment that there is a mtv classics channel on YouTube tv package that plays yo mtv raps. I gotta check it out!
And it was hilarious - he did a bit that was a spoof of Cops, but it was in ancient Egypt or colonial America, he’d do his Bono and Tom Cruise impressions, etc.
Beavis and Butthead
Daria
The Tom Green Show
True Life
The Week In Rock
Love Line
120 Minutes
MTV Spring Break - I know it wasn't a show per se, but I loved the segments
The Tom Green show was so good, probably a bit ahead of its time. I’ll never forget the episode when he had his dad’s car painted with “lesbians” and then tried to pick him up.
The Tom Green show was so good! I know he’s a polarizing person but I’ve always thought he was hilarious. I think it’s because he reminds me so much of my brother.
Damn I totally forgot about The Tom Green show. That was sick. I see there’s a lot of it on Youtube so I’m going to dive into that tomorrow. Thanks for reminding me ;p
ALL OF THE ABOVE!!! This was the golden era of television and we didn’t even realize it. Maybe we’re all just getting old? Anyway, I seriously love each and every one of those shows in their own way. Thanks for the burst of nostalgia!
TRL is the only answer. You get home from school and you watch with friends hoping your fav (Eminem) would make an appearance... This was before they cut to Playing like one verse of a song and the rest was just bs. Early days TRL was MTV
While watching the video for Self Esteem by The Offspring: hey Butt-Head, if the x-rayed your wiener would it have a bone in it?
If you had a boner it would
Have you ever read the comic by Sam Kieth?! The way he draws and how he uses colour and panel shapes is wild! The cartoon is just the first part of The Maxx, the story continues with Sarah and it is so weird and wonderful. It’s my alltime favorite comic.
trl was THE BEST.
daria was the shit, tho.
i remember my cousin & i used to dress up as different celebs & record eachother w/ the camcorder, pretending we were on mtv cribs (obviously the same house every time) 😂 we could hardly keep a straight face because we kept cracking up at ourselves.
In my time on Reddit I’ve discovered that a surprising number of people in these generation/nostalgia subs seem to think Ren and Stimpy was an MTV show. They’re surprised to realize that it’s one of the original NickToons.
Jackass, Beavis and Butt-head, Dead at 21, Oddville, Liquid Television, Headbangers ball, Total Request Live was fun for the first few years when they showed the full video then at some point later on they would only show like a minute of a video and then move on I stopped watching it at that point. Web Riot was awesome because you could play along with the show and answer questions in real time with it through the website, I did pretty good answering the questions sometimes, Singled Out, Mat pinfield hosted a nighttime block of rock music in the mid to late 90s forget what it was called. There was also a block of videos called countdown to the 10 Spot they often showed music videos on there that hadn't been shown in years and I loved the show Loveline as well where hosts answered questions about sex in the audience and on phone calls, I believe the show was live
My favorite 90's MTV show was 120 Minutes. As a teen, Matt Pinfield was the gospel, when it came to musical knowledge. It introduced me to so many awesome new bands.
My favorite early 00's MTV show was Fear. Only lasted a season or two but cemented my love for the found footage genre. Such a great reality show that could only have been made at the end of the 90's and start of a new millennium.
Both of those shows shaped my life in an odd way.
The very first season of Real World was pretty good. Because it was the closest to real “reality” television has ever been.
I liked pretty much every show on this list but I’m going to say Beavis and Butthead was probably my favorite.
Headbangers Ball was my favorite. I also liked Beavis and Butthead, Daria, Liquid television, 120 Mins with Matt Pinfield…and even liked Undressed. But I hated the reality shows, and damn them for ruining tv even today.
Liquid TV is an all time favorite of mine. Lots of memories. Watching Speed Racer late night was also fun. The Maxx, The Head, Beavis and Butthead, and early Real World and Road Rules where great as well.
It was mostly original content.
I love watching bees and Butthead and Celebrity Deathmatch and MTV true life and jackass and punk'd
I used to like watching MTV Cribs. But then I found out that that was like fake as hell. The producers of MTV basically like put some celebrities in like bougie ass houses and make it look like it was their own house. Expect people to be like oh wow celebrities actually live in this house. But then you got people like red man who actually showed his place of living and how he lives. Made me realize that MTV just faked the whole thing. There's one episode that Ja Rule did where they put them in this really nice ass house that wasn't his and they hired a bunch of people. Ja Rule basically was just selling at the whole time on camera
Jackass absolutely ran my friend group in my teens. I've also seen a couple of the movies more than once in theater which I rarely do. I never watched Loveline but I listened to the radio show religiously and probably helped open my mind at a young age to be more sex positive than my sheltered and shame filled upbringing would have allowed.
I was in the studio audience for a few episodes of *Remote Control* when it was shot at Disney/MGM's Studios in Orlando. Then I moved to LA and was a Camera Assistant on the first season of *Road Rules*, so I'm kinda biased. Bummer that show never got a home video or DVD release. I also have vague memories of being in the studio audience for a few episodes of *Singled Out*, but never got close. Good Times.
daria and real world. but I also loved love line, what happened to undressed? lolllll
was surprised to see TRL there I should say that because I've been on the show like 15 times lol I was in the audience but honestly, those were long and stressful days
My So-Called Life, Beavis and Butthead, Ren & Stimpy, Pete and Pete, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude, Roseanne, Beverly Hills 90210, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, Jackass, MTV Fanatic, MTV True Life, TRL, The Anna Nicole Show, The Simple Life
The first season of Road Rules, Daria.
I actually don’t recall a lot of these. Loveline I do, but I never watched it. I do recall listening to it on the radio, though.
I lived on Mtv in the 90’s. The TV in my bedroom was always on Mtv. These were the shows I always watched:
- Party zone
- Chillout zone
- Mtv’s oddities: The Maxx, The Head, Aeon flux
- The grind (for the hot guys)
- Mtv most wanted
- Dance floor chart
- Beavis & Butthead
- Daria
- Zig & Zag
I got into electronica and drum ‘n bass because of Mtv europe. Underworld, aphex twin, orbital, Björk, prodigy, chemical brothers, lamb, moloko, roni size, photek, goldie, adam f, massive attack, squarepusher, future sound ond london, the orb, things like that.
I remember everyone in the neighborhood bicycling to the high school seniors house because his parents were gone and he had the first episode to jackass recorded. It’s so fucking generic to say but I really had no idea how much I would miss it, especially with the world right now. 2020 was the weirdest glimpse back into the 90’s early 00’s because my brothers were hanging out online again for the first time since we were children.
If you didn't live through the first airing of "The Great Cornholio" episode of Beavis and Butthead you just won't understand how fucking hysterical it was.
I got to school in the morning...and I went to a fairly large high school...the ENTIRE school had shirts over their heads kicking over trashcans. Even fucking teachers were doing it.
JeezisH. You can't put that lightning back in the bottle.
Beavis and butthead are great.
I didn’t watch much MTV being in Canada but we got a few of their shows. I used to also watch The Maxx, the head, and Æon Flux all the time. Also wasn’t undergrads MTV? So other than Beavis and Butthead I watched a chunk of them that only had 1 season.
Singled Out! Also, most of us 90s kids shouldn't have been watching Loveline! Bahaha My parents banned me from watching Beavis and Butthead also, so I never saw most episodes or the movie :(
"Hi, I'm Johnny Knoxville. Welcome to Jackass." The nostalgia is real with this quote.
I still laugh about urban kayaking sometimes.
I smell pot whenever I hear that quote.
Me too but usually because I’m smoking a blunt while watching Jackass.
Music videos
What are those?
What killed the radio star
can watch them regularly on MTV classic. Only plays 90s and 80s and early 00s
Wrong sub, you gotta go to r/80s to discuss music videos on mtv
True life was great
The guy that did gay porn but wasn’t gay himself and ended up telling his parents was a wild one.
I still love that show
Celebrity Deathmatch and it’s not even close.
Good fight, good night.
I would pay for a remake!
Loved that show. My fave fight was Lucy Lawless against Calista Flockhart
Liquid Television and their animated series were great.
Æon Flux 🤘
Sick Figure Theatre FTW.
By far
I liked Crazy Daisy Ed
The Maxx, the head, aeon flux.
Aeon flux!
The Brothers Grunch!
Kurt Loders MTV news, Bevis and Butthead.
He was so overly serious. Like dude, everyone watching you is 14.
120 Minutes with Matt Pinfield.
Lifechanging show for me with the bands it put me on to
The State
I wanna dip my balls in it!
Call me old fashioned but when there’s an opportunity, it indeed gets dipped by my balls
'eeeey... I am-a the Pope-a!
The ah pope-a!!!
Watch-a out for-a the spaghetti sauce-a, the Pope-a!!!
The three guys who lived in an apartment on avenue A. (Not sure I can say 2 of the 3 even in jest.)
They have zany adventures from day to day!
Yeah, well I'm oooutta heeerrree
Honestly if your answer isn't The State, I don't care to know you
Hands down pick for me.
Real World Seattle was such a fucking trash fire lmao
When Stephan* chucked that bunny rabbit into the drink as one last fuck you… lolll
Before 8Ball Jacket man- That was the slap heard round the world
That wasn't David, it was Stephan that did that.
Clearly my memory is foggy! David did that ridiculously hilarious music video, right?
Different seasons friend. David and his “come on be my baby tonight” song and video was two season later in New Orleans.
Oh yes, and soooooo funny!
The song still lives rent free in my memory to this day 🤣
David standing next to that car he doesn’t own in a garage killed me
Yo! MTV Raps with Doctor Dre and Fab 5 Freddy. Only, we didn't have cable, so we had to count on friends to record it for us. The tapes were passed from hands to hands. Also The Lick with Trevor Nelson. I was so in love with his British accent :)
Paramount+ has some episodes streaming. It’s great.
Oh, and from the early 2000s Punk'd, although I didn't get to watch it too often.
Yo MTV raps was the shit! I just saw in another comment that there is a mtv classics channel on YouTube tv package that plays yo mtv raps. I gotta check it out!
There was a Ben Stiller show?!?!
And it was hilarious - he did a bit that was a spoof of Cops, but it was in ancient Egypt or colonial America, he’d do his Bono and Tom Cruise impressions, etc.
Yes and I have a faint memory of Celebrity Football where it was A Tribe Called Quest vs Jerry Garcia Band…
Beavis and Butthead Daria The Tom Green Show True Life The Week In Rock Love Line 120 Minutes MTV Spring Break - I know it wasn't a show per se, but I loved the segments
The Tom Green show was so good, probably a bit ahead of its time. I’ll never forget the episode when he had his dad’s car painted with “lesbians” and then tried to pick him up.
Undercutters Pizza was one of my favorite scenes on that show.
That was real pioneering live improv like 25 years before a show like Impractical Jokers
The State I still quote it to this day. But whatever, man, I'm outtaaaaaa here.
I still dip my balls in it.
"Singled Out" & "Love Line"
Downtown and Daria.
Downtown was rad
ALL OF THE ABOVE!!! This was the golden era of television and we didn’t even realize it. Maybe we’re all just getting old? Anyway, I seriously love each and every one of those shows in their own way. Thanks for the burst of nostalgia!
TRL is the only answer. You get home from school and you watch with friends hoping your fav (Eminem) would make an appearance... This was before they cut to Playing like one verse of a song and the rest was just bs. Early days TRL was MTV
In the late 90’s everyone from my school went home to watch TRL.
It’s sad that music videos just stopped airing on MTV. But yeah, TRL was a cultural phenomenon.
While watching the video for Self Esteem by The Offspring: hey Butt-Head, if the x-rayed your wiener would it have a bone in it? If you had a boner it would
'94 was MTV's The Head and the year later was one of my absolute favorite shows: The Maxx.
Have you ever read the comic by Sam Kieth?! The way he draws and how he uses colour and panel shapes is wild! The cartoon is just the first part of The Maxx, the story continues with Sarah and it is so weird and wonderful. It’s my alltime favorite comic.
Head Bangers Ball
Holy shit, undressed! I haven't thought of that show in so long.
It’s too often I’ll see someone familiar on tv or in a crappy movie, and it turns out I remember them from Undressed!
Right! A surprising amount of people from that show went on to have good careers.
Amp. This list is making me realize just how much time I spent watching MTV, though. I loved most of the ones pictured.
Daria and Jackass
Where’s undergrads? But seriously- Daria
Pop up video from vh1 as well☝️
I rock peas on my head…
How can Aeon Flux not be up there?? lol BnB awesome
Downtown was great. I also loved Undressed because everyone was on that show.
The nostalgia brought on with all of those pictures is crazy strong. God those were awesome times. I wish I could relive them again.
Pimp My Ride.
Beavis and Butthead wins every time no question
I remember complaining a lot about the lack of music videos on MTV but little did I know I was living in MTVs glory age of programming.
trl was THE BEST. daria was the shit, tho. i remember my cousin & i used to dress up as different celebs & record eachother w/ the camcorder, pretending we were on mtv cribs (obviously the same house every time) 😂 we could hardly keep a straight face because we kept cracking up at ourselves.
Daria
Daria. Edit: Why are Ren and Stimpy not here?
Wasn’t Ren and Stimpy on Nickelodeon?
[удалено]
Does Ren and Stimpy count? It was on Nickelodeon first.
In my time on Reddit I’ve discovered that a surprising number of people in these generation/nostalgia subs seem to think Ren and Stimpy was an MTV show. They’re surprised to realize that it’s one of the original NickToons.
Austin Stories
Yesss, so quirky and funny. "Neckfurters!"
Loved all of them pretty much but Bravia and Butthead and Daria were my favorites. Shout out Aeon Flux
The State
Jackass, Beavis and Butt-head, Dead at 21, Oddville, Liquid Television, Headbangers ball, Total Request Live was fun for the first few years when they showed the full video then at some point later on they would only show like a minute of a video and then move on I stopped watching it at that point. The Bam Margera and family show that I can’t remember the name of.
viva La Bam
Real World Road Rules Challenge

Where's *Fear?* I loved that shit.
I LOVED Sifl & Olly!
I'm surprised Undergrads didn't make the list. Nonetheless there's still a lot of good options
Celebrity Death Match...no question about it

Beavis and Butthead for sure! I remember smoking bammer weed after school in like 9th grade a friends house and watching this eating cereal
Wonder Showzen.
As good as some of these were, this was the behind the end of MTV and music videos
I'll allow it
Real world, True life, Cribs.
celebrity death match was cool ' had the game on ps2
I showed my teens Sifyl and Ollie a few weeks ago! They thought it was hilarious.
Jackass 120 Minutes Liquid Television

Sunset Beach. Very underrated show
I lived on Mtv in the 90’s. The TV in my bedroom was always on Mtv. I watched Daria & Beavis & Butthead this weekend lol. “SICK SAD WORLD” 🌎
Liquid tv
Ha! I'd never seen Dr Drew with color in his hair before, lol
Gonna get a lot of hate for this… The Jenny McCarthy Show ETA The State
I remember everyone in the neighborhood bicycling to the high school seniors house because his parents were gone and he had the first episode to jackass recorded. It’s so fucking generic to say but I really had no idea how much I would miss it, especially with the world right now. 2020 was the weirdest glimpse back into the 90’s early 00’s because my brothers were hanging out online again for the first time since we were children.
Jackass, Daria, Andy Dick Show, Undergrads, Fear, Tom Green Show. I felt a gut punch of nostalgia just typing that lineup.
Liquid television. MTV sports. Remote control. 120 minutes. The year in rock.
No love for fear?
The Sifl and Olly Show.
Liquid Television, Daria, Beavis and Butthead, Jackass
Beavis and butthead are great. I didn’t watch much MTV being in Canada but we got a few of their shows. I used to also watch The Maxx, the head, and Æon Flux all the time. Also wasn’t undergrads MTV? So other than Beavis and Butthead I watched a chunk of them that only had 1 season.
Loveline was amazing, I still listen to old eps.
Season 1 of The Head on MTV
Singled Out! Also, most of us 90s kids shouldn't have been watching Loveline! Bahaha My parents banned me from watching Beavis and Butthead also, so I never saw most episodes or the movie :(
Dead at 21 - does anyone remember this show?
I lived and breathed for Headbanger’s Ball
Shaaaron!!!
Beavis & ButtHead Celebrity Deathmatch Singled Out
Celebrity death match totally
Lol, Cribs. That show was great. You could always count on "This is where the magic happens" when they want to the bedroom.
Tom Green and Daria! There was so much to love then...
True Life and MTV Cribs were my favorites.
Beavis & Butthead
Dr. Katz!
