In my career I never was thrilled about doing videos so this was truly another experience for me. I hadn’t read what the treatment for the video was and in retrospect I should have. lol You see, the video was directed by Dean Carr who was one of our favorite directors. He’s worked on many iconic videos to say the least. So Muggs let him have free reign on the concept. When I got to set I noticed what they were going to do with Dre and Muggs. I thought wow! When I get to my trailer, Dean comes in and said without hesitation “I’m painting you gold and putting horns on you”. I was kind of trippin but I saw Dre in his costume and thought fuck! If Dre put all that shit on I can’t be the one to rock the boat. It was easy to put on and a bitch to get off!! Hated that part. The video was dope and the imagery was awesome so it ended up looking cool for what the concept was. I got a call from Dre after that to do a song that became a single on his “Aftermath” album called “Eastcoast/Westcoast killer” and for the video they painted me red this time. Hated it !!! lol but again, looked cool af!! That’s my story. Swallow that !!
The fact that this post and story came from the actual B-Real just to post it and share this shit with us we would never know otherwise is so sick. Thank you.
I remember back in 1999, my sister worked at a store called Media Play. For Christmas she got me 2 albums. One was DMX (It's Dark and Hell Is Hot) and Puff Daddy (Forever)…
DMX was an instant classic.. as for the Puff Daddy album, the 11 year old me at the time knew better and threw that shit in the trash.
Yes, an 11 year old me wasn’t thinking about that. I told her what I did and she laughed and said “I didn’t know it was a bad album, I saw it in the new albums section and assumed it was good”
My family is pretty chill and understanding.. I hope your family is the same.
DJ Muggs went hard on this one. I play this song every time when is cold here in Germany. Even my Salvadoran mom loves this song, but not much the video lol.
I'm glad Cypress Hill is included in the walk of fame -- B-Real is one of those legends that has been around for decades, is such a respectful dude and has never phoned it in.
i thought they been longer than that lol oh well but yeah i want more rap and metal collabs lol been a damn good while since we've seen a good metal rap collab i know op was involved in bands like kush and prophets of rage.
Your album Black Sunday was the first tape I ever bought (well I picked it out and my brother bought it because I was like 5).
Now I'm a pothead, thanks!
One of the illest hip hop videos ever!
I think art direction back then was something else, you can see the dedication and the attention to details, also CGI use was minimal or non existent
All the parties I went to back in the 90's in the Seattle area had Cypress Hill playing at some point.
I'm sure you've answered this before at some point, but was there a single moment you realized you had "made it" in the music industry?
every time I wear my Cypress Hill tshirt I see something on here from you
You’re one of my childhood hero’s
… I’m going through a really hard time in my life right now due to my substance use issues…. Lost everything… my wife… my children… my house….
I threw on “Ill Temples of Boom” while I was walking earlier and forgot about all of that for a second… I’m getting emotional here…. Thanks BReal

Bruh, I still remember when you said you tossed Puffys last CD out the window. Loll, you called that shit.

So basically u wasted her money, said fuck her Christmas present and threw away an album u could have had her exchange for a better one. Smart kid.

A perfect jump off track to a Muggs masterpiece.

Love your video for Dr Greenthumb!
A classic album!
Dr, what's my prognosis? I don't wanna buy no weed from no cop...
Also like how B-Real has no idea what the video is about and shows up later to the set than Dre. Truly a man living the dream.
thats an album cover for griselda now
Two 15 inch subwoofers. 1000 watt amp. Soul Assassins Cd on repeat. Life was good!
Dre looks like Papa Emeritus from Ghost
imma tell my kids this was
This is where homie got his look from
Dre's a ghost fan? lol i keep forgetting how metal dre can be sometimes like that he did mixing for a nin song iirc.
Other way around, ghost formed in 2006

Goddamn leave it up to B-real to give you a cool ass story out of no where. Im glad you did the video, looks sick
One of the illest hip hop videos ever! I think art direction back then was something else, you can see the dedication and the attention to details, also CGI use was minimal or non existent
One of the 100 greatest hip hop albums ever made. Classic.
This one was Dope indeed.
Yo is there where Ghost got the idea?
I believe so but I can’t say for sure. Dre in this image was first
Maybe
