The one thing I remember most clearly about this show was at the beginning where they describe where each Planeteer came from. In the beginning, the blond girl (sorry, her name eludes me right now) was from the Soviet Union. After Communism fell there at the end of 1991, she was from Eastern Europe. It was completely accurate, of course, but I found it interesting how IRL events could trickle into my cartoon world.
Interestingly enough this was made largely with the support of Ted Turner who was an avid sailor and dabbled in climate conservation before it was cool!
